5:31 pm
trump in the lead in iowa. abc's tom llamas leading us off from the campaign trail. >> reporter: tonight, donald trump in full renegade mode. predicting without him, no one will watch tomorrow's debate on fox news. >> they can't toy with me like they toy with everybody else. >> reporter: part of trump's problem? fox anchor and debate moderator, megyn kelly. >> i'm not a fan of megyn kelly. i think she's a third-rate reporter. i think she, frankly, is not good at what she does, and i think they could do a lot better than megyn kelly. >> reporter: their bad blood started with this question at the first debate. >> you've called women you don't like fat pigs, dogs, slobs and disgusting animals. your twitter account -- >> only rosie o'donnell. >> no, it wasn't. for the record. it was well beyond rosie o'donnell. >> yes, i'm sure it was. >> reporter: as tomorrow's debate approached, trump hinted he might not go. >> do you really think she can be fair at a debate?
5:32 pm

5:33 pm
tweeting -- "i refuse to call megyn kelly a bimbo because that would not be politically correct. instead, i will only call her a lightweight reporter." the kelly/trump relationship, a lot of love on display in 2011, when kelly interviewed trump about his plans to host his own candidates' forum. >> do you really think you're a better moderator than i am? that wouldn't even be close. you have done a great job, by the way, and i mean it. >> reporter: today, kelly saying she still thinks trump will show tomorrow. >> i'll be surprised if he doesn't come. i mean, i know he says he doesn't want to now. but i'll really be surprised. >> reporter: trump's closest rival, senator ted cruz, smelling blood in the water, saying trump's decision to skip the debate amounts to skipping out on a job interview with iowa voters. >> if someone did that, didn't show up at the interview, you know what you'd say? you're fired. >> reporter: the texas senator now challenging trump to debate him one-on-one.
