a 2-year-old girl. police have released this mug shot of 51- year-old daniel garcia-martinez. police say he was driving the white van that hit evelyn green-- last sunday-- near lake mead and pecos-- then took off. 13 action news spoke with evelyn's father just moments after the news came down. he says he's relieved an arrest has been made. i'm more focused with what i need to do. butt to that right there was really hurting. i didn't know what to do. garcia-martinez is now facing a long list of charges. there's a growing mystery surrounding the death of a 12-year old girl. this morning-- her family is making a desperate plea...hoping to prevent other families from having to feel their pain. just days ago, -12-year-old maxine star-marie zepeda-lopez came home sick from school. now, she's dead. 13 action news reporter bryan callahan spoke with the family---who are worried because doctors can't seem to tell them...what killed their

metro says k-9's are important to the deparetment's success and an injury like this could be career ending. they're still unsure when or if nicky will return to work. the health of a puppy at a henderson pet store has a lot of people on social media outraged this morning. this picture was circulating on facebook showing the 3-month old rhodesian ridgeback at petland on marks and sunset. 13 action news went to the store to see for ourselves and we took this cell phone video. you can see puppy's ribs through his skin. but animal control was sent to the store and says while the puppy is thin, it's healthy. gina greisen, nevada voters for animals is it ok for a puppy to look like that? i don't think any reasonable citizen is going to believe that this puppy looks healthy we also contacted a local vet and showed him the video. he said, without examining the animal, he believes the dog is severely underweight and should not be on display. good morning everyone!

extreme weather stretching from the midwest to the northeast this weekend. millions are bracing for some freezing temperatures. the national weather service warning conditions could result in frostbite and lead to hypothermia or even death if people don't take precaution. in some places it could feel like 40 below zero this weekend. the cold already causing damage - a burst pipe in scranton pennsylvania - turning homes - into ice castles.

morning. she's using the weekend to campaign in the silver state. clinton is aiming to gain support ahead of next weekend's nevada caucus. the rally kicks off at 11 this morning at "painter's hall." that's located off of mountain vista and whitney mesa in henderson. and clinton's main rival, vermont senator bernie sanders is also in nevada this weekend. he's up north today, spending some time gathering support in reno. sanders will then make his way to las vegas for a rally tomorrow morning at bonanza high school. both are coming off a pretty heated debate this week in wisconsin. the nevada caucus is next saturday. as we get ready to caucus here in nevada, the battle for south carolina is heating up. for donald trump -- it's a chance to expand on his lopsided victory in new hampshire. and that's just what his g-o-p rivals will try to stop -- in what promises to be a very tough debate tonight. here's abc's chuck sivertsen ["see- vert-sen"] with more.

a pedestrian is dead after a hit and run! 13 action news cameras were the only ones there-- when the driver returned to the scene and was

it happened yesterday evening on spring mountain near arville! police say the pedestrian was crossing outside of a marked crosswalk when he was hit by a jeep! the driver intially fled before returning an hour later. police say they believe the man was driving drunk. they also call spring mountain a hot spot for traffic trouble. witnesses described how firefighters tried to save the pedestrian. well i've never seen something like that happened so it was like surprising i was numb so i couldn't i don't remember how i felt but it was pretty terrible. if convicted ... the driver faces at least two years in prison for leaving the scene of an accident. new information this morning on a bad crash that happened last night near vegas a cimarron. metro telling us overnight, a 19 year old woman is in critical condition and a 26-year-old man is in serious condition after their motorcycle slammed into the side of an suv. both were thrown from the bike.

the s-u-v were not hurt. it happened right around 7 p-m and roads in that area were shut down for an hour as police investigated. new this morning nevada department of corrections tells us an inmate has died. this is a mark clewis. he was serving a life sentence at lovelock correctional center for grand larceny. the 65-year-old died at reno hospital last night. an autopsy will be performed to eexact cause of death. now to a story you'll see only on action news!!! for the first time, we're hearing the 9- 1-1 calls from the night a woman's car slammed into a group of people on the las vegas strip.
