a passenger in the car died on scene and the driver was taken to the hospital but is expected to be ok. police are conducting d-u-i tests to see if that was a factor. over in georgia -- an officer shot and killed overnight. he was responding to a call of a suspicious person when he was gunned down. it happened in the small town of east-man. the killer remains on the run right now. breaking overnight -- in milwaukee at least one officer is in the hospital right now after protests turned violent. it's all because of an which a man was killed. a gas station has been set on fire along with other business in the city. the milwaukee fire department said they couldn't fight the fire because protesters were also shooting there. police say there were around a thousand people out on the streets. one of the officers was hurt when someone threw a brick through a when someone threw a brick through a squad-car window, hitting him in the head. it's not yet clear how many people were arrested but officers were seen putting some

news. it all went down yesterday morning -- in the promenade at the meadows -- an apartment complex near decatur and alta. members of this senior community woke up early in the morning to see water gushing down the street. " the water was rushing clear down the street.". "it was just gushing water and our neighbors car, the front driver's side was stuck in the hole." that neighbor was danny larkin who says he is just lucky he wasn't hurt. "i was going to subway to get a sandwich and i seen a bit of water and i didn't take any notice of it. the next thing was my car landing in a home and i couldn't get it out." the incident. this morning seven people are hurt -- including four critically after a flash fire at a texas crude-oil pant. officials say the fire appeared to involve a crude-oil pipeline connection. some of the victims suffered serious burns. they were all workers of the company. today -- a woman fighting for her life after an alligator attack-- will undergo a amjor surgery. this morning -- we know it's thanks to her family she's s officials say a 6 and a half foot alligator attacked kimberly sexton - nearly ripping off her hand. sexton was in a remote everglades fishing camp when she reached into the water to grab an empty soda can. that's when the alligator grabbed her. (sot broward sheriff fire rescue spokeman she was standing on the dock and as she reached in to retrieve the can, that's when she was bitten by the alligator. two family members grabbed sexton by the legs to prevent her from being dragged into the

they say the sentence he handed down to a convicted rapist is too lenient. c-n-n's dan simon has details. 22-year-old austin wilkerson has been sentenced to 2 years in the boulder county jail. but there's a catch--- it's called work release an arraignment where defendants are a school during the day--- prosecutors say it's too lenient of a sentence for a convicted rapist. (lisa saccomano/prosecutor) "we were hoping to see a prison sentence in this case. obviously we feel that prison is appropriate for someone who commits a rape of this nature and particularly given the aggravated facts here." they were students at the university of colorado. it was march of 2014. a st patrick's day party. lots of drinking. wilkerson offered to look after the victim.

court documents say when confronted by investigators, wilkerson said he made "repeated advances on the victim, but that she rebuffed him each time." he later "admitted to friends" that she was "passed out--- and "let his hands wander." but in court--- wilkerson's story changed. claiming that it was consensual and that the victim was sober. (lisa saccomano/prosecutor) "he definitely, in our opinion, as we argued to the court, throughout the process, has given whatever version of the story at that moment is being goin end, jurors found wilkerson guilty of sexual assault and unlawful sexual contact. changing his story yet again, he admitted to his crime and apologized at sentencing. judge patrick butler, who also sentenced wilkerson to 20 years probation. said he struggled with the decision . "mr. wilkerson deserves to be punished, but i think we all need to find out whether he truly can or cannot be

swimmer brock turner, who received 6 months in jail for raping a woman behind a dumpster. victims advocates say the legal system is failing to recognize the seriousness of rape on college campuses with the colorado case, being the latest example.
