our crews were at the scene near lake mead and rampart--- for hours yesterday... as police tried to get the suspect to surrender. police say the man shot his grandmother, who was in her 80s, outside the home --- after some type of altercation. neighbors tended to the woman... but weren't able to save her. the suspect barricaded himself in the house for about four hours until police were able to get him to surrender. we are expected to learn the recovering after they crashed the crash shut down part of sahara near arden overnight. police tell us the women were taken to the hospital last night but are expcted to be o-k. no word on what caused the vehicle to go into the pole. roads are back open now... also... a pedestrian is dead after behing hit by a car near jones and alta late last night. police say the man was not in a crosswalk. this morning we're getting a look at the las vegas man accused of brutally beating a little boy. 21-year-old deshaun lewis is
the victim's mother says lewis was a family friend who had temporarily taken over custody of the 5-year-old while she was ill. the little boy....marscel is still in the hospital right now with internal injuries and a fractured leg. fortunately, he is expected to recover. chopper 13 fast and first over a house fire near alta and torrey pines.....you can see smoke billowing up into the sky. everyone was able to get out in time...but firefighters say the house is destroyed. right now an adult and four small children who were living there don't have a place to in to the cause. many people are concerned about a fire burning at mount charleston right now because they haven't seen firefighters out there! although the "lost fire" is still burning near mary jane falls the u-s forest service says it is not spreading. the department says it is keeping a close eye on the situation but as of right now the fire is less than an acre in size. they say it's burning in a rocky area... and they don't expect it to grow.
