the time. including a vietnam veteran who is a double amputee. jimmy lives here with two care givers and we talked to one of them. >> i feel blessed i'm alive everything got out and jimmy is okay. he went to the hospital. >> the fire broke out just before 10:00 last night. crews rescued that double amputee and this morning he's been treated for smoke inhalation. his two care givers jumped out of side windows to get away from the flames. they also rescued three kittens from the home. it became clear this house was set on fire because neighbors saw a suspicious man run from the house. >> they saw him on the porch of this home and shortly he caught on fire. he fled in in a white suv. >> reporter: the sheriffs
office this morning investigating this as a case of arson. but the motive is still unclear. the people that live here have no idea why they might be targeted. as we come back here live there was two arson fires within two weeks at this strip mall. we have put in calls to the fire department trying to see if there is some sort of connection here. alex savidge ktvu channel 2 news. a growing gang problem and a zip koa daimio owe -- cinco de mayo celebration on saturday night. tara moriarty joins us live. >> reporter: expect to see more police patrols in downtown san jose. we are the the primary spot where people come to party. this is the big zip koa demicro week.

san francisco prosecutors will file formal charges against the protestors arrested this week during the occupy takeover on turk street. one man may face felony charges for this. throwing pipes and bricks off the roof. at least four other properties tours will be charged with misdemeanor trespassing for that building takeover. ktvu was there live when police raided the building wednesday morning around dawn. police made more than two dozen arrests. still not clear if everyone arrested will be charged. today san francisco district attorney will do his part. dozens of may day protestors trashed several stores along with cars in the mission district. this afternoon da george gas
cone will be heading to the -- it has been a bad week for one mission district store owner. he owns a clothing store. first violent demonstrators smashed a store window then they received a citation from city hall about the graffiti on the stores boarded up windows. the department of public works admits that was a bad move. the agency has apologized and voided the citation and offered to help the store owner. the university of california will post a report online addressing best practices unpriest protocols.

some drizzle. it will be slow to get out of here. we will have partly sunny to mostly sunny skies. temperatures creeping up a little bit. now to sal. this is a look at san jose, northbound 87 traffic looks good driving into downtown san jose. we are also hearing of a brush fire on the right shoulder near pablo exit. fire crews are on the scene. san francisco police are investigating a hit and run accident between a mustang and taxi cub. the mustang t-boned the cab sending it into a building. the impact also knocked out a traffic light. police did find a bottle of alcohol in that car. let's go back to dave and pam. a house fire has sparked a criminal investigation. firefighters say someone set fire to the home with three people inside. ktvu alex savidge joins from
the scene with what witnesses saw. alex. >> reporter: good morning, pam. the people that live in this house grate to be alive after someone doused their house with gasoline and intentionally set the place on fire while they were inside. three people home last night including a vietnam veteran that is a double amputee. firefights had to rescue him. his two care givers jumped outside two windows to escape. fire broke out just before 10:00 last night on blossom way. investigators say several neighbors told them they saw a man with a gas can running away from the home shortly before the fire started. >> i heard pop like that. i heard a big old pop and then i seen flames. >> and then what did you do? >> i reacted. >> how did you react?
>> with water and a bucket. just started trying to put it out. >> reporter: the alameda county sheriffs office is investigating this fire as a case of arson. the man with that gas can hopped into a waiting suv that sped off. this morning a motive for this crime is unclear. the people that live in this home have nowhere why they would. firefighters say the fire started in the garage of a two- story home. firefighters say the home is a total loss and the red cross is helping those people find a new place to stay. the cause of the fire still under investigation. time is 5:33.
still following overnight news from san francisco. police in riot gear were out last night in the cities silver area. we can see police moving in on a house. the police were part of a gang task force and they were serving an arrest warrant. time is 5:34. a hearing set for later necessary morning of an -- claudine wong is live. >> reporter: there is no doubt th winust school is going to close. everyone has come to terms with that here. the question is will they be able to make it to the end of the school year. that's what we are not sure about. the judge will hear a plea in a
few hours. the issue is over a settlement that was agreed upon by wells fargo and the school. in this agreement wells fargo agreed the school could be opened until june 7th which is the last day of school. in exchange they had to turn over all its revenue. but last month wells fargo broke that a-- the ski seas it di not vie the atreatment. once again families here the hearing is set for 9:30.
