it is stacking up a little bit for some. a little bit of clearing taking place for some. if that is the case you're in the upper 40s or low 50s. if you have any of that cloud deck or drizzle it's around 50- 60 degrees. it comes right on down and below the radar. we can't see a lot of it but it's going mainly parallel to the coast. 62 palo alto. hayward 62. drizzle from san mateo foster city and belmont and into the santa cruz mountains. the low is on its way out. it will void south. as it does, it will take this moisture with it. for the morning a mix of some clouds and sun. light rain, drizzle. cool to mild. the breeze all pick up 60s and 70s on your temps. and it's 7:00 on a monday
morning. how are we doing dale sal? >> we are okay. we have a couple glitches in the south bay where the rain or wet weather is falling. it's not so much rain as you heard steve say but it's enough to slow the commute down. a 41 minute drive as you head out to the maccarthur maze. no major problems there driving to the bay bridge toll plaza you will see slow traffic at the bay bridge toll plaza. 25-30 minutes. and we also have a lot of slow traffic you know once you make it on to the bridge but it's not stop and go. 580 is a mess through the altamont pass. it stays that way through livermore and dublin and 680 heading south toward highway 84 we had a crash there and traffic is a big mess on this commute. it had started off okay but right now we are not okay there. immerged some of the other commutes here. traffic is going to be busy on the peninsula. the slowest traffic is 101, 85, and 17 in the south bay. 7:01 let's go back to the desk.
a southwest airlines flight on its way to san francisco from los angeles was forced to turn around after a violent incident between two passengers. alex savidge is live to explain what happened in the middle of this flight and how other passengers were effected. >> reporter: gasia, good morning to you. one passenger that was on board that flight has been detained by the fbi after he reportedly choked one of his fellow passengers in midair. and according to a peseta was put on to instagram late last night, that victim was assaulted after she reclined her seat shortly after the flight took off. we want to show you a photo that shows police meting that plane at the gate after the flight returned to lax. the flight was headed here to sfo but the pilot was forced to turn around and land in l.a. because of this disturbance. this happened around 10:30 last night. it was southwest airlines flight 2010. the attack happened less than
15 minutes after take off. the two passengers involved in this dispute were not traveling together. the captain declared an emergency in order to receive priority handling frommen air traffic controllers and then that flight landed safely back at lax and that is where that passenger was detained by authorities and they are continuing to question him. the fbi told us that the man involved in this attack has not yet been arrested for any sort of a crime at this point. but what happened after they arrived back in lax well all the passengers who were on that flight were put on another plane and finally got here to sfo very early this morning five hours behind schedule. >> what an ordeal. thank you so much alex. a new car pool lane was set to open in the east bay to set up rack for commuters along interstate 880. janine de la vega is live in oakland where it looks as though there is a bit of a
delay. janine. >> reporter: yeah, it is not quite open yet. it was supposed to open up at 5:00 a.m. this morning but apparently there was pending road work scheduled. we have reached out to caltrans to find out if it was going to open for the afternoon commute but we are still waiting to hear back. here's video of that section. right now pile ons are block the lane. the project adds three miles of car pool lane between oakland and san leandro. from hegenberger to marina boulevard motorists will be able to use the new lane if they have occupants in their car. the new lane is an extension of the hov lane that exists in san leandro down to the 237 interchange. as part of this project, caltrans reconstructed the marina boulevard and davis street over crossing because big rigs kept clipping them. they increased the clearance
from 15-18 feet. that should decrease the number of accidents. the latest information we have about the new car pool lane was that it should open no later than tuesday. again we are still checking to see if it will be a little bit sooner than that this afternoon but we haven't heard back yet. when it does open we heard from caltrans engineers it could shave up to five minutes off your commute. brian. >> all right we shall see. thank you. today marks 24 years since the devastating oakland hills fire storm. the fire killed 25 people, injured 150 others and destroyed almost 3,000 homes. today oakland mayor libby schaaf will remember the tragedy at the gateway emergency repairedness center. mayor schaaf will be joined by local fire officials to talk about fire prevention measures to be taken since then. heavy rain north of vacaville triggered flash flooding and rock slides over the weekend. rocks and debris covered
highway 28. fire damaged land that is more prone to slides because there is no vegetation to hold the rocks in place. two sections of the roads remain closed because of mud slides in kern county. that is more than 100 cars, buses, and trucks were trapped in the mud. road crews are having a tough time because the mud has hardened now and it's like trying to get through concrete. the highway could reopen by thursday. five other roads had to be shut down are open again. a councilman is calling for a crack down on unattended donation bins throughout the city. according to the san jose mercury news, councilman pierre louiey says it's a eyesore.
construction of san francisco's first raised bike lane starts today. they are designed to stop drivers from veering into the bike lane and they should be safer for bicyclists. construction is expected to take about a month. time is 7:07. and more than a dozen cars damaged in just 20 minutes the disturbing discovery at a san leandro apartment comet plex that has neighbors on edge. >> it just seemed like this would be something we would do to give back. >> a wedding called off the last minute. how the family of the bride turned what could be a heartbreaking situation into an unforgettable night for dozens of families in need. >> we have slow traffic around the bay area. especially in the south bay where it's been raining but 24 is not taking a backseat here. it's pretty slow on the way over to oakland.

church of the highlands school in san bruno has hired security guards. the weapons are discreetly hidden under the guards clothing. the security firm also says the guards are former law enforcement officers and military members who receive more training than the average security guard. new effort under way to encourage students to go to college and it's being spear headed by the first lady. bettermakeroom.org. students ages 14-19 get information on the sat and act
college prep forms. students can share their own experiences, goals and explain why they want to go to college. according to the white house more than 20 media, business, and nonprofit groups are collaborating on this new campaign. a muslim student detained for bringing a home made clock to his high school in texas is set to visit the white house. the 14-year-old boy made national headlines when she was taken into police custody after his home made clock was mistaken for a possible bomb. well tonight mohammed will attend astronomy night at the white house. it was supposed to be a beautiful wedding over looking sacramento but the groom got cold feet and backed out of the wedding just days before he was supposed to say i do. reporter tom miller shows us how the bride and her family turned this heartbreaking situation into an unforgettable night. >> the tables are set, food hot out the oven and one by one the

certificate , to get out you have to have a divorce. traffic is moving along pretty well in some areas and not so well in others. and oh by the way, not so well part is where it happens to be a little drizzly. this is 280 in san jose northbound. we have slow traffic there. i can show you on the maps that 280 is going to be slow but it gets better by the time you reach cupertino. 85 and 101 are the same. getting down from san jose to the east bay. a lot of stop and goal traffic. and 580 is just a mess. it is backed up on 580 from 205 all the way out to the 680 interchange and 680 is slow approaching earlier trouble on highway 84. this whole commute on 580 at 680 if this is your commute, if you have the luxury of going later or working from home this morning, you might save yourself some frustration. i know a lot of you don't. you just have to go and be

and caramel by the sea. downed power lines from a damaged transmission tower is being blamed for the outage but it's not clear how the lines came down. the utility says they have hired a consulting firm to figure it out. another statue of junipero sara has been vandalized. >> a boa constrictor on a bus.

the family of lamar odom remains at his bedside nearly a week after he was rushed to the hospital from a nevada brock ole. he regained consciousness on friday for the first time. there are reports that odom spoke to his estranged wife and gave a thumbs up sign. authorities are hoping flood tests will help them figure out what caused his collapse. he had reportedly been using cocaine and an her ball stimulant. six people were stabbed at a teenage birthday party. police say a man who was not invited stormed into the madison town hall. he attacked anyone who got in his way. >> people were laying down here. laying in cars. a lot of ambulances.
>> police say the 18-year-old suspect was arrested nearby. all of the victims are expected to survive. at this point investigators are still trying to figure out a motive for the attack. a swimmer is fiting for his life after being bitten by a shark. this happened on saturday about 50-100 yards off the shores of the east side of the island. the 44-year-old man was swimming with a friend when a tiger shark bit both of his legs. two people on the shore heard calls for help and called 911. and then one canoed out to the injured man inbrought him back to shore. the other grabbed a rope from his house and used it as a turn kit to help stop the bleeding. >> i didn't realize the severity of his injuries in we pulled him out of the water. >> both legs just above the ankle were just hanging on. >> in a separate attack a few hours late aero32-year-old man
was bitten on his -- later a 32- year-old man was bitten on his foot. some bus riders in philadelphia got quite a scare after a four foot snake got loose inside the bus. the snakes owner was on his way home from the pet store after picking up dinner. while he was on the bus the snake made it out of his jacket and into a compartment under one of the bus seats. the bus driver pulled over, everyone got out and as you might imagine some passengers were a little nervous. >> it reminded me of snakes on the plane. now we got snake on the bus. >> usually show falls asleep but i guess she wanted to crawl around. i couldn't get her out of there and she got stuck. >> just about an hour later a police officer found the snake and handed it back to the owner and a few minutes after that the owner was seen getting on
another bus with a snake in a bag. the federal government is expected to announce new regulations on drones. the transportation department wants to require registration for all unmanned aircrafts. sources tell the wall street journal the government is aiming to issue final registration rules before christmas. picketing is about to get under way at cal state east bay. the strike that is happening this morning and what it means for students around our state. >> an expensive and inconvenient act of vandalism. dozens of cars and trucks have their tired slashed. >> we're looking at a morning commute. here on 880 it's not so bad yet heading to downtown oakland. >> some breaks in the clouds but there have been

rasmus will have more on how people there are dealing with this attack and many people want to know why a lot of people stuck without a way to work and school. it just may be vandalism but it's very frustrating. >> big headache. >> thank you for joining us on mornings on 2 i'm gasia mikaelian. >> good morning, everybody i'm brian flores in for dave clark. let's get your day started with a quick look at traffic. >> san mateo coast. santa cruz. there is some gasia and brian. a lot of it looks like it's letting up a little bit but still light rain in san jose and a lot of cloud cover over us. some breaks to the north and to the east and from there, there is cooler temps. if you are stuck with that cloud cover and drizzle it's near 60 degrees. .09 in mount umunhum. looks like we are about done here. there is not much left but there is still enough it ramps up and goes up along the coast.
especially in the santa cruz mountains. 40s and 60s. north bay running much, much cooler. there is a little bit of a breeze here. we expect that to turn more northerly by this afternoon and evening. but with temperatures today in the 60s and 70s, some light rain in the morning and a little bit of a breeze by tonight. we'll start to see clearing. sal, what do you have for us at almost 7:30. 7:29. >> okay. yes. thank you very much, steve. you can tell i was distracted by radio traffic on my scanners. that is right you heard it scanners. let's take a look at the commute now. traffic is going to be busy as you can see at the bay bridge toll plaza. nothing unusual is going on but there is a lot of people trying to get into san francisco. it's a 25-30 minute delay. what i was listening to as we take a look at the san mateo bridge i just confirmed with
chp they have removed that stalled truck from the roadway. there was a truck that was broken down. san mateo and dumbarton bridge is going to be okay. this 580 is commute is horrible on 580 getting out from the tracy triangle all the way to the dublin interchange. we talked about the south bay commute. i want to drag the map down here. 101, 280 and 85 are slow. in the santa cruz mountains it's very slow. again it just came across that that truck is gone. 7:30 let's go back to the desk. this morning there is a security guard at an east bay? apartment complex letting people know about a vandalism that happened there. allie rasmus is live at park side commons where somebody slashed more than 30 dires during the weekend. allie. >> reporter: that is right you can see an example of it.
the back tire of this suv totally flattened after someone took a knife to it. i had a chance to talk to the owner of the car. he said he was very surprised to come out and see this. he had to find another way to work. he said he would cost him a couple hundred dollars to get this fixed. and police were out here yesterday investigating. all together there were at least 30 cars in the parking area of the part time commons area that have the same problem over the weekend. the vandalism happened sometime late saturday night or early sunday morning. neighbors are upset and trying to figure out who may be behind it. >> i feel bad. i feel like why? why they want to do something like that. you will see the tire flat. first in the beginning i thought he got a nail or something.
>> and the man says he realized it was not a nail after talking to several other neighbors who had the same thing happen to their cars. now the security guard we spoke with at the complex said they don't have security cameras in the parking area. at this point they are encouraging people who see anything suspicious to contact san leandro police. that security guard also put a notice on the door of every apartment out here letting people know that management and police are aware of this problem and they are working to figure out who is behind it. back to you brian. >> just a huge inconvenience for all of those people living there. thank you. for the third time in four weeks someone has damaged a statue of father junipero sara. this morning monterey police tell us that vandals removed the head off this statue in lower presidio park and took it with them. the earlier attacks on sara statues happened in caramel.
some people say serra didn't deserve that honor because he abused native americans. a vigil was held in san jose for three teenagers that were killed in a street racing crash. about 100 people gathered. people at the vigil said they wanted to support their families and try to raise money for the funeral expenses. >> we're just here top let the family know we are here and you know this is a sad time and they have encouragement with us and just to lift them up in this hard time. >> a fourth teenager was seriously injured in the crash and police are still looking for the other driver involved in the street race. jury selection is expected to begin today in the federal
racketeering trial of raymond shrimp boy chow. prosecutors tried to push that date back after announcing new last minute charges against chow. including solicitation of murder in connection to the killing of a chinatown businessman back in 2006. the request was denied but if it was approved chow could be facing the death penalty if convicted. chow's arrest in 2014 stems from an indictment alleging he headed a gang in chinatown. police chief greg suhr will hold a meeting. a construction worker flagged down two sergeants because a man was throwing bottles in the streets. as one of the sergeants tried to handcuff the suspect there was a struggle and the man
grabbed the officers weapon and pointed it at him. that is when the other officer fired two shots. time is 7:34. a handful of republican presidential hopefuls rallied at a mega church in texas over the weekend. ben carson, jeb bush, and four other gop contenders. many declared their strong support for christian slams but also religious freedom. in iowa bernie sanders took on social security telling voters that it needs to be expanded. and hillary clinton is not holding back any criticism especially when it comes to donald trump. >> i continue to criticism him for going beyond the bounds for what i think is inappropriate for anybody running for president. >> trump did not attend the forum in texas and speculation is still looming about a possible joe biden run for the white house. hillary clinton may be taking a
couple days off from the campaign trail because she is about to square off against republicans in congress. the 2012 attacks which happened during clinton's watch as secretary of state claimed the lives of four americans including ambassador christopher stephens who is from the bay area. they point to statements from republicans who suggested there was a political agenda at play. >> the seven members of our committee are much more focused on the four dead americans than we are anyone's presidential aspirations. >> the committee is expected to ask secretary clinton about what the state department denied requests. and why the attacks were initially mischaracterized by the administration. today is the last day for san franciscans to register to vote for the november 3rd
election. and the departments out reach coordinators will hold a special event tonight to register voters at the front entrance of city hall which is on polk street. that goes from 5:00 to 8:00 tonight. just when we thought it was all clear in southern california, there is still some roadblocks for drivers along highway there. coming none 20 minutes who was stuck in the mud from last weeks storms and when the highway is expert opinioned to fully reopen. >> and today is the day many fans of star wars movies have been waiting for, for more than ten years.

the crash happened yesterday morning in a suburb of phoenix. the mother, father, and two children were pulled from the vehicle. all of them died at the hospital. police then found out a third child was missing. that child was later found dead strapped to a car seat in the back of the vehicle. investigators are looking into what caused the crash. santa cruz police are looking into why a car plunged off the san to cruz wharf killing one person and critically injuring another. the car hopped a curb, crashed through a fence and plunged 20 feet into the water. it took rescuers more than 20 minutes to find the car and pull the men out. >> it didn't sound like our somewhat typical wrong pedal, gas pedal. it sounded like the vehicle was driving erratically down the wharf. >> the car swerved to avoid a pickup truck leaving the wharf. time 17:40.
a small house in oakland was moved about a block away. yesterday morning a crew picked up the home at the corner of martin luther king junior way and 32nd street. childrens hospital bought the home after the owner died. now the home has new owners, two couples who have a plot of land one block away. >> i think when you are moving a house the main thing is where are you going to move it to? and you don't want to move it very far. >> the hospital is paying the new owners $20,000 for moving expenses. once that is is done the couple plans to rent out the home. preparing to strike. professors at cal state universities are out this morning to call attention to an important vote. pam cook is back in the studio with a look at what they want and what is at stake. hey, pam. >> reporter: the faculty and
other staff are talking about a strike if they don't reach an agreement. i want to take you out to cal state east bay. they are out on the picket lines this morning. they are drawing attention to their cause at this point. the california faculty association is out there. they represent 25,000 professors, lecturers, librarians, counselors, and coaches. you are look at a live picture. they are outside the csu campuses. this is at the one in the east bay. they are alerting students and staff about the vote that will take place today through october 28th. we talked to one of the association members. >> the issue is salary. the csu management is offering us a 2% salary increase and asking for a 5% salary increase. we think that is what is fair and people deserve a chance to catch up from the recession. >> the professors tell us they want to set an example for
their students who will be professionals one day. now classes will continue as scheduled as faculty members vote from now in next wednesday. it's unclear though what will happen obviously if they do go on strike. >> right. >> reporter: i don't know how you replace 25,000 people at various colleges. >> we'll see if it comes to that. thank you. 7:43. fans of star wars movies may be spending a little extra time online tonight because tickets for star wars goes on sale tomorrow. first day ticket sales will break advance ticket sales records. it's the first star wars movie in ten years and the first to be made since disney bought the
star wars franchise from dan lou cases. lucas? >> i'm very excited. >> i think sal is excited too. >> absolutely. i'm not excited though about what some of our viewers are going to have to face when they get to work or they get out and see. let me go and show you the east bay commute. because steve and i have been talking about wet weather but it has not been wet in lafayette, walnut creek, concord but it's still very slow. highway 24 is slow. bart is recovering from earlier problems that were minor. ten minute delay here and there. but still very slow on 24. let's take a look at 680 with the maps here. you can see traffic is slow from 242 down to the walnut creek interchange. highway 4 is still slow as well if you are driving out to the livermore valley we have seen some slow traffic there all morning long from the altamont
pass straight to 680 and 680 is slow out of dublin. and then we go to the south bay where all the freeways are slow. it's been a little bit wet in some commutes. 101 for example is slow from blossom hill road all the way up to mountain view. 7:45 this is a look at the bay bridge toll plaza. it's kind of slowing down here. it's a 30 minute wait before you make it on to that span. now let's go to steve. and sal from campbell, san jose to mountain view there has been light rain. it makes sense. >> it does make sense. >> well, on this monday morning. it looks like this drizzle, light rain will be for another if not stopping already. there is plenty of breaks in the clouds. we've had decent amounts of light rain and drizzle on this monday morning. a lot of it doesn't do much here. milpitas .12.
you know i used to climb mission peak back before anybody did. now it's like an escalator going up there. pacifica .08. daly city .03. san jose and hayward picked up a trace. there were other areas in the santa cruz mountains that picked up .04 to .05. i think i saw boulder creek in there. antonio. good morning antonio. it's still raining. we do have our low in nevada. just coming in on the backside. mainly parallel to the coast. that is exactly what has happened on parts of the coast from pacifica down to daly city and san jose. north and east not so much. you can see our system falling apart pretty rapidly here. water temps are still warm. 61-64 degrees. 48 napa and santa rosa.
yet 61 san ramon. yet you go north you can find upper 60s. petaluma is in there. a little warmer around nevada and mill valley. most in the 60s. the breeze west, west, southwest. it will start to turn a little more northerly. 28 cool chilly degrees up in truckee. 55 ukiah and 61 down in monterey. our system will continue to work its way. dry air is beginning to move in here as the low moves into nevada and on its way south. very wet pattern. our system is falling apart but it has given us a little bit of drizzle. light rain in the morning. drizzle. there is really not much left. we will turn the wind northerly. people are already freaking

minister benjamin netanyahu. the trial was put on hold 18 months ago after the lawyer for one of the men said that members of his defense team had been questioned by the fbi about a potential breach of security rules. the report from the justice department finds that no one from the defendants team will be facing criminal charges. the judge will decide if that resolves the conflict issue. the national nuclear agreement with iran is in effect. u.s. officials say they expect ryan will need months to live up to its side of the bargain. that would include making major changes to a nuclear facility. iran says the work will be complete in two months but the u.s. says economic sanctions against iran will not be dropped in the united nations inspection team says the changes have been made. a man was shot and killed at a zombie themed festival in downtown for the meyers florida

the rest of the south bay, you can see 85, 280. we've had a number of small crashes. they have been moved to the shoulder rather quickly. just take it easy out there. when it rains sometimes the other guy doesn't drive very well. 8:02 let's go back to the desk. we are learning more about a violent incident on a southwest airlines flight heading from los angeles to san francisco. a midair assault forced the plane to make an emergency landing. alex savidge is live now to explain how it all started. alex. >> reporter: gasia, good morning to you. it sounds like it was quite a scene. one passenger was detained by the fbi for questioning after he reportedly choked another passenger and that prompted this emergency landing late last night. now take a look at that post that was put on instagram here. the woman who put this post up says the victim in this case was assaulted after she reclined her seat.
the photo here shows police meeting that plane at the gates after the flight returned to lax. that flight was headed here to sfo but the pilot was forced to turn around shortly after take off and land in l.a. because of this disturbance. it happened around 10:30 last night. the attack happened less than 15 minutes after the plane took off. the two passengers involved in this dispute were not traveling together. the captain declared an emergency in order to receive priority handling. and again that flight did land safely at lax where the passenger was detained. the rest of the passengers they boarded another plane and arrived here at sfo about five hours behind schedule. and this morning southwest airlines is praising the flight crew last night involved in this incident for taking swift action to alert the pilot and get this plane down on the ground safely. >> huge delays for all of those
passengers. thank you so much alex. time is 8:03. car pool lane set to open on interstate 880 in the east bay to help smooth out the commute. janine de la vega is joining us live from oakland to show us where it's located and when drivers will be able to use it. janine, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, brian. the new three mile stretch is here from oakland all the way to san leandro. it was slated to open at 5:00 but pending road work was scheduled so drivers will have to wait a bit. we drove along the southbound 880 earlier this morning and saw the new hov lanes. it runs from hegenberger to marina boulevard. caltrans engineers say it could save as much as five minutes from your drive time. and with 880 being congested shaving off any time is helpful. so the new lane is an extension
of the hov lane that already exists in san leandro and runs to the 237 interchange in milpitas. we put in calls to caltrans to see if the new lane will be open for the afternoon commute. we are still waiting to hear back. caltrans says it should open by tuesday at the latest. as i mentioned it was pending some sort of scheduled pending road work that is delaying this. >> all right we'll have to wait to see when it does reopen. a private school on the peninsula is taking controversial measures to protect its students. according to the examiner, church of the highlands school has hired armed guards in response to concerns about recent mass shootings. the paper says the weapons are discreetly hidden under the guards clothing. the security firm also says the guards are former law enforcement officers and military members who received more training than the average security guard. today marks 24 years since the devastating oakland hills storm. killed 25 people and destroyed
almost 3,000 homes. today oakland mayor libby schaaf will remember the tragedy at the gateway emergency repairedness center. mayor schaaf will be joined by local fire officials to talk about fire prevention measures taken since then. that event starts at 12:30 this afternoon. heavy rain triggered flash flooding and rock slides over the weekend. rocks and debris covered highway 128. down south two sections of road remain closed because of mud slides in kern county last thursday. that is when more than 100 cars, buses and trucks were trapped on highway 58. road crews are having a tough time getting them out because they say the mud is hardened. it's like trying to get through concrete now. cal tran says the highway could reopen by thursday. five other roads that have been
shut down are open again. they are an eyesore, they are illegal and they have to go. according to the san jose mercury news, oliverio says the bins become a target for graffiti, litter, and dumping. oliverio is asking city staff to take action by removing the unpermitted bins. car flies off the santa cruz wharf into the water and rescuers leap into action. >> it was remarkable what they did especially considering they did it with no scuba tanks. >> coming up in 20 minutes what investigators think led up to that watery crash. >> hillary clinton squares off with congress on the benghazi attacks this week. the potentially emotional testimony we could hear from her. >> we're looking at a lot of slow traffic out there. especially in the south bay but
the federal government will require all unmanned drones in the u.s. to be registered. up in now only the owners of a commercial drone had to register their aircraft. the transportation department is mandating all drones be tracked for safety reasons so they can catch who is violating aviation rules. afghanistan's acting defense minister says taliban forces was using a doctors without borders hospital that was bombed earlier this month as a safe place to shelter. at least 22 people were killed when a u.s. gun ship attacked a facility. the minister insists militants were using the hospital as a base and says there was a taliban flag on the wall. this could be a critical week for hillary clinton. she's is about -- she's about to square off. >> reporter: the clinton campaign is taking this
seriously. there is indications that hillary clinton is taking a couple days off from the campaign trail this week to prepare for this testimony. not knowing exactly what issues may arise. the benghazi-libya attack that claimed the lives of u.s. ambassador and three other americans may have happened three years ago but they could provide fresh political thought around capitol hill. there they ended up becoming a partisan arm of the national committee and overwhelming focus on trying to drive down my poll numbers. >> reporter: clinton points to kevin mccarthy who says there was a political agenda at play here. but she will have to answer questions about why they denied requests to enhance security in libya. the republican heading up the investigation says this is not

no one was seriously injured. let's go to the bay bridge toll plaza. it's backed up to the maccarthur maze. nothing unusual about that. we had a couple minor issues on the bay bridge. this morning's commute is very slow on 580. in case you are just joining us, it was slow earlier. we had minor things. there were no accidents. but this whole trip a lot of people make it every day. it will be way behind schedule. let's go back to the 280 freeway. it's improving a little bit. it's moving a little bit better. if you have to wait a half hour you might see this go away. now let's go back to the desk. happening today in less than 30 minutes here faculty at the cal state university campuses will be voting whether or not to go on strike.
nay say they -- they say they want a 5% pay raise. the university is offering a 2% pay raise. the faculty members say they deserve more. >> the economy is better. the csu got an augmentation from the state and now the faculty thinks their work is being under valued by their employer. >> the california faculty association is arguing the strikeset represents 25%. classes will continue as scheduled as the faculty members vote from now in october 28th. people in an east bay apartment complex are dealing with major vandalism after 30 car tires with slashed over the weekend. this morning allie rasmus talked to someone who live there is about what happened. >> reporter: a security guard this morning went around and posted one of these flyers on the apartment doors. at least 30 cars in the park
side commons apartment complex in san leandro had their tires slashed. the vandalism happened late saturday night or early sunday morning. this morning we spoke to a couple neighbors who found they were victims. >> i'm mad. i'm planning ongoing to see my grandchildren next month so that put a dent in my pocket. >> i feel bad. i feel like why? why they want to do something like that. just get after it and see the tire flat. >> man realized it was not a nail after talking to several neighbors. he ended up getting a ride with his wife to work later on this morning. security guards here say there are no security cameras in the parking lots. at this point they are encouraging anyone who may have seen anything over the weekend
to give san leandro police a call. in san leandro allie rasmus ktvu fox 2 news. time is 8:33. there is no official word on the cause of death for a san jose state university water player. san jose statesmen water polo club posted this statement saying rest in peace to my teammate, friend, and brother. he was just 24 years old. jury selection is expected to begin today in the federal racketeering trial of former san francisco chinatown gang leader raymond shrimp boy chow. the request was denied but if it had been approved, chow would have been facing the death penalty if convicted. today the judge could also
decide if the fbi is required to reveal the identities of the under cover agents who will testify in the trial. chow's arrest in 2014 stemmed from a federal indictment alleging he headed an organized gang in china town. san francisco police chief greg suhr will hold a community meeting about last weeks -- a construction worker flagged down two sergeants. police say that is when the officer fired two shots. the meeting with the police chief about the case is at noon today at the bill graham civic auditorium. for the third time in a month someone damaged the statue of father junipero serra. vandals removed the head of the statue and apparently took it with them. the city operates that park but the statue is on federal land so this could be a federal
crime. investigators say all three cases may be related but so far there are no suspects. the first statue was damaged the day father serra was canonized. some people oppose that move by the church saying serra harmed native americans. today is the last day for san franciscans to vote in the november 3rd election. you can register or update your registration online. and the department's outreach coordinators will hold special event tonight to register voters at the front entrance of city hall which is on polk street. that goes from 5:00 to 8:00 tonight. santa cruz police are looking into what caused a car to plunge off the street. it happened saturday night just before 8:30. the car hopped a curb, crashed through a fence and plunged about 20 feet into the water. it took rescuers more than 20 minutes without the use of oxygen tanks to find the car in murky waters and pull the men
out. >> it didn't sound like our somewhat typical wrong pedal, gas pedal, brake pedal. it sounded like the vehicle was driving erratically down the wharf. >> one witness tells the centennial the car swerved to avid a pickup truck. a family of five was killed after their suv plunged into an arizona lake. the crash happened yesterday morning in a phoenix suburb. the mother, father, and two children were pulled from the vehicle. all died at the hospital. police then found out a third child was missing. he was later found dead strapped to a car seat in the back of the vehicle. the family and friends of three teenagers killed in a crash in san jose are still looking for answer. another driver involved in the deadly street race has not been found. tom ray car was there as 100 people gathered for a service to remember the lives lost.

one attack came the day after president obama and china announced the cyber agreement. swimmer is fighting for his life after being bitten by a shark in hawaii. the 44-year-old man was swimming with a friend when a tiger shark bit both of his legs. two people on shore heard calls for help and they called 911. and then one canoed out to the injured man and brought him back to shore. another grabbed a rope from his house and used it as a turnkit.
>> in a separate attack a few hours later a 32-year-old man was bitten on his foot. based on his injuries officials are saying that victim was attacked by an eel not a shark. he is in serious condition at a nearby trauma center. some bus riders in philadelphia got quite a scare after a four foot snake got loose inside the bus. the snakes owner was on his way home from the pet store after picking up dinner. he was on the bus the snake made it out of his jacket and into a compartment. the discovery forced the bus driver to pull over and get everyone out. >> it reminded me of snakes on the plane. now we have snakes on the bus. >> usually she falls asleep. about an hour later a police officer found the snake and handed it back to the owner and a few minutes later the

we do have this system that is in nevada. that will take a lot of this moisture with it. high pressure is building in. this system is falling apart. there is not a lot left to it. we're on the cool side for many. 60s for some. a lot of 40s to the north bay. that is for sure. a lot of low clouds and fog banked up on the santa cruz coast. there is the low. but then again down toward phoenix. it's new. they will pick up an area of low pressure down there. we will get the north breeze on the backside of that. light rain for the morning hours. but then mostly sunny and warmer with a northerly breeze. that will take care of any clouds if it kicks in tuesday into wednesday. temperatures will go back into the 80s. breeze picks up a little bit later but it's 70s for many of these temps or 60s over by the coast. again mostly cloudy, partly sunny in the morning but then mostly sunny by this afternoon. the rain should be ending our drizzle any time soon here. might hang on a little bit for a half hour or so.
