light rain is falling at antioch into martinez. shifting further south we have it along 680 and san ramon. and 580 through livermore. san jose and santa clara you are dry in the south bay. let's look at the next several hours. the rain right now. at 9 am still wet and fairly widespread. around noon it begins to taper off a little but we remain with mostly cloudy skies and the moisture in place. even at 3 pm still picking up a few intermittent showers. even around dinnertime it continues to taper off but still around. new snow headed to the sierra.

580 seeing a few scattered showers as well. not as much in the south bay. but we do have some over the dumbarton bridge and the san mateo bridge. in the sierra we have some scattered showers and the rain snow mix between 3500 feet and 4500 feet. this afternoon we continue scattered showers and we have a winter weather advisory for the sierra looking at 4-8 inches of snow. 8 inches for the higher peaks but it's going to make for a slow drive. here is what we can expect for rainfall amounts. not a lot. maybe .3 inches more in the hills but for most of us it will be 1/4 inch and around portions of the south bay and

east bay. temperatures not a lot of changes this afternoon. upper 40s to around 50 right now. 49 oakland. 47 walnut creek. san jose 50. 49 foster city. afternoon highs coming up 5-10 degrees at most. these numbers are like yesterday. today we have showers in place. into the second part of your evening we will continue to see the showers taper off. sunday we start out dry. a few showers late in the day but the next one comes in overnight into monday morning. monday morning commute could be wet.

terror in philadelphia. a suspected muslim militants shot at a philadelphia police officer 11 times. here is the officer on the radio calling for help. >> shots fired. i'm bleeding heavily. >> officer shot. >> 33-year-old jesse hartnett is recovering from extensive surgery to his arm. he was shot three times and will need several more operations. the 30-year-old suspect, edward archer, walked toward hartnett's police car and ambushed him. the fbi says archer had pledged allegiance to isis and traveled several times to the middle east.

there as well. but it's very hit or miss at this point. this is what we're going to see as we get into your second part of the morning and into the afternoon as well. a look at the east bayshore line where we've got some light rain. maybe areas rate around oakland and into emory vile. maybe right along the 880 commute. san ramon, six 80, some light rain falling here. as we shift into the sierra we've watched scattered showers here but not a lot going on at this moment. if i back up just a little bit that rain/snow line right about pollock pines, between 3500 and 4,000 feet. if you are going to be skiing this weekend grab the chains. always a good idea to have them this time of year if you don't have the snow tires. a few inches expected all the way down to pass level. the higher elevations could pick up eight to nine inches of snow so that's good news. here's a look at the temperatures for the hour, and then i will show you what you

bringing scattered showers to the bay area. storm tracker 2 in a still position to pick up exactly where they're falling at this moment. you can see just inside the bay and tinner east bay seeing widespread scattered showers. getting in closer over portions of the north bay you may find it in and out of mill valley, san rafael, crossing over the bay bridge, maybe the san mateo bridge as well, the east bayshore line. we've got a few scattered showers. then as we get farther inland we've got scattered showers maybe over the mount diablo area and in and out of areas like antioch, pittsburg. mainly dry at the moment but it is shifting into areas like fairfield. if you are traveling i-80 will you find it there. scattered showers just now crappying into the higher elevations with that rain/snow line mix hovering about 4,000 feet. there is a winter weather advisory that will last into

called 21 grams. dicaprio plays this character. he was mauled bey a bear, but the film primarily focuses on the revenge. hardy, you know him from mad max. the film is incredibly shot. he shot the movie with all natural lighting, meaning they had to shoot the film at certain points of the day. the shoot itself was reportedly one of the most incredibly hard shoots to have for a film making process. i love dicaprio in this role, one of the best performances of his career. he, i think, will win an academy award. he's been nominated four times but has never won. he is phenomenal in the role. he really got into it. he ate actual bison liver when shooting the liver. hardy was phenomenal as well. the film contains one of the most intense sequences. it's a bear sequence with

leonardo dicaprio. the way they made this scene work, i have absolutely no idea. i know he said they were on some kind of pulley system but i have no idea how they made it look so realistic. i honestly could not breathe during this scene, it is so mind blowingly intense. the film starts out a little slow at times. overall as you leave the theater you know you've never seen anything like this move vine your entire life. it is one of the best movies i've seen. i sought in 20 15. it will blow your mind from a cinematography standpoint. absolutely genius. really proves that he can put you in a film and make you think that you are sitting right there with the characters. i gave it a 4.5 out of 5. it is a brilliant film. it does drag slightly, but i do do that dicaprio will finally win his first academy award. i'm kevin mccarthy, fox news. >> going to blow your mind, claudine. >> i just to have make the time to get in the theaters.

you do have outdoor activities. rosemary said it was going to stop raining, and hear it is rang on me. so we're going leave in that slight possibility, but for the most part it's gone, off to the east. we've got some snow in the sierra, and there san advisory for the sierra. let's talk about what's going on here. we have scattered showers over portions of the north bay, san rafael, fairfax, mill valley, crossing over the richmond san rafael bridge. we have some light rain around the berkeley kensington area into piedmont, oakland, may be stretching over into alameda, orinda. we continue to track that rain/snow line mix rate about pollock pines which is about 4,000 feet. fur going this way bring along the chains if you don't have the snow tires because there is that winter weather advisory, levels all the way down to 3500 feet possible. a few inches right at the pass. eight to nine inches of new snow expected for the higher

little rattled. that's what i harks christien. >> we have a lot of ground to cover. the pet expo, one of the interesting things, there's a lot of education that goes on. this is duo, who was rescued from the meat trade in china. that's one of the issues you can learn about here. duo now lives with a family here in the bay area. if you have a pet that you're taking out, one of the things you need to be aware of here in the bay area if you're outside, that's right, you said it before, ross, getting rattled. one of tissues here that happens every year is that dogs are out with their owners, and they get bit by a rattlesnake. and that's part of the business models for john potash here from get rattled, which is really the whole idea is getting these animals to avoid rattlesnakes. >> absolutely. we have a variety of wildlife services, rattlesnakes, poor could you pines, toads, and

we're -- porcupines, toads, and skunks. >> dogs might encounter a rattler and might not know it's a threat. >> they have a tendency to approach them rather than stay away from them. >> reporter: one of the other big issues, we see her out of her cage right now, this happened to my dog when i was younger, my dog encountered a porcupine. >> yeah, porcupine encounters are more frequent than a lot of people realize. all you've got do is google dog- poor could you pipe encounters, and there's a lot of pictures that show how horrible it can be. >> how long is the training session? is this something that you can learn quickly or dogs need to come in for a couple of times to learn all the threats? >> dogs pick it up very fast. but we cue always recommend at least one retrain after the initial training within a year, just to make sure they get it

celebration pieces and put them in place on top of the one market street building. super bowl 50 to you less than month away. celebrations are going to be held throughout the bay before kickoff in santa clara on february 7th. gun enthusiasts are going to converge at the cow palace for a gun show being organized by a company called crossroads of the west. the company runs more than 60 of these shows a year in several states including california, nevada, and arizona. the owner says in the aftermath of the attacks, he has been trying to promote responsibility and compliance with gun show laws. a new law could drop the fine for not stopping at a red light. the bill would cut the penalty from roughly 500 to $250. the legislation only includes right turns without a complete stop, not other red light violations. a san bruno man came up with the idea as part of state

senator jerry hill's 8th annual "there oughta be a law" contest. three men caught on camera burglar raising an orinda home. you can see the men digging through a closet, then taking a backpack and other items as they casually walk through the house. if you recognize them, of course, call orinda police. sentencing for a chinatown association leader raymond chow is set for march 3rd. his lawyers are planning on appealing that verdict that found him guilty of charges including murder and money laundering. chow's attorneys say they are disgusted by the verdict. they sparred with the judge and asked for a mistrial. >> understand we filed at least 40 motions. understand that at least one of them was directed at what we consider was judicial impropriety. >> chow faces life in prison. but he told his attorneys that

we've reached the end of the first week of the new year and bey now a lot of people are already starting to give up their 2016 goals. the top resolution is to lose weight but according to the statistic brain research institute last year only 8% of people were successful in achieving their resolution. after six months more than 50% of people had completely given up on their goal. joining claudine this morning with tips on eating healthier in the new year is colleen, the author of "30-day vegan challenge." >> colleen, it's so nice of you to be here. you hear those stats and you think, oh, they've given up. sometimes it's really hard. i know enough challenge and this book to try to make it a little bit easier. a lot of people are trying to figure out how to do that so you brought some stuff to maybe make it a little easier? >> i think one of the reasons i

wrote the "30-day vegan challenge" is to acknowledge that change is hard. once you make the change it becomes your new habit. >> it takes like three weeks to month before you say, oh, i got this. and easy is parted of this. >> you don't have to make it so hard. so i try to make it as easy as possible. so obviously talking about all of the aspects, the cooking aspects, the eating out aspects. one of the things really guide people on isedding by color as much as possible. it's a really fun way to get nutrients into your body without thinking too hard about what concepts. >> my sister is a doctor. she always says, colorful plated. you've got a colorful salad. >> this is a cale citrus salad. i've got some cale. this is really easy. you can pull it off the stalk, you don't even have to cut it. so we've got color, grapefruit. >> and cale has that -- it can be a little strong.

justin bieber may not be allowed to come back to visit an ancient mexican site. officials say on thursday the pop star tried to climb on to a restricted area of the mayan ruins just off cancun. a tourist guide who witnessed the incident says bieber pulled down his pants as he was leaving. the daily mail reports bieber was drinking and clearly under the influence. last night bill walton saw his son lead the warriors to another victory.
