the house. traffic is doing better than it was an hour ago with a lot of construction closures being picked up. traffic does look good on 101 in san francisco approaching 80 split with no major issues. highway 24 also looks good. we had an earlier accident near the crossroads. that didn't cause a lot of slow traffic. this morning, for our third element, this is a look at 280 and san jose. that traffic is off to a good start. start. let's go back to the desk. there is new developments in a string of freeway shootings on i-80. there have been 17 since november. the latest happened sunday night. chp received a 9-1- 1 call 8:30 sunday night reporting a shooting on i-80 eastbound. a gunman opened fire hitting a cab but not the people inside. chp says the taxi driver pulled off the freeway into a parking lot. two passengers ran away on foot.
>> i'm not surprised. the scariest part is we don't know who is doing it. >> i heard about it a couple months ago. i'm surprised we have not done anything. >> last wednesday a joint operation led to the arrest of 41-year-old robert ross in richmond. san francisco police need your help finding two people accused of stabbing two british tourists to death. the one on the left of the screen is the male suspect. the one on the right is the female suspect wanted in connection with this case. the stabbing happened on post street at franklin and goth. surveillance video shows three people getting in a confrontation. the video shows the victim tries to run away. he is chased down and stabbed by the male suspect. he dies several weeks later. his niece was there during the mugging but wasn't hurt.
anyone with information about this case is asked to call san francisco police. the chp is asking for the public's help to track down people involved in a side show this weekend on the bay bridge. someone posted the side show on instagram sunday night eastbound i-80 outside the tunnel on the bridge. traffic came to a full stop as several cars spun donuts. chp was called to the scene. everyone left by the time officers arrived. bart union employees agreed to a new contract. we are live in dublin to tell us how passengers are reacting to the news. i imagine they are relieved. >> reporter: yes, they are. riders are happy that this tentative agreement was
reached. a lot of them have lost trust in bart. senator glazer knows that. he is reviewing the deal and plans on speaking out later this morning. this new agreement that offers workers a 10% pay increase over four years. bart management once called the workers overpaid. now they have changed their tune and saying employees deserve a raise. some people are shocked that bart and the union were able to broker a new dealearly. in 2013 a strike lasted ten days during labor talks. it caused gridlock and left riders fuming. this time around things went smoother with bart saying both sides are focusing on rebuilding bart. >> when two kids fighting in a sand box you don't care who started the fight. you want them to figure out out and stop fighting and improve the relationship. >> reporter: the challenge now becomes keeping the trains
running. because the fleet of rail cars are the oldest in the country and it runs the hardest. management knows bart's reliability rate is slipping. and says it is working to replace infrastructure. the new contract needs to be approvedby both sides. fares were riders will not increase. bart has already set ridership records. a major earthquake could cause more damage along san francisco's waterfront according to a new seismic safety report. a larger earthquake, magnitude 7 and above along the fault will cause movement on the seawall from fisherman war of to at&t park. t&t park.
it needs $2 billion to repairs to make it earthquake-safe. quake-safe. californians who take paid federal leave will be getting a nice boost in pay in the next year. right now workers get 55% of their pay. the new law raises it to 60% for people with higher salaries and 70% for the state's lowest- paid workers. most people take six weeks paid leave to bond with a baby. others use it to scare for a sick family member. >> we want to do as much as we can in a creative way to make sure everybody has a decent life and particularly the kids coming along have that opportunity. when the mothers can take off time or the fathers can take care of the kids when they are born or family member when they become ill, that's human. >> the changes take effect in 2018. last week san francisco approved some of the best benefits in the country making it mandatory for businesses to
give new mothers and fathers six weeks of fully paid time off. today is equal payday. facebook says it has no gender pay gap. menlo park-based social media account announced they pay all employees for the same they do. microsoft announced its employees make nearly the same. women make 99.8-cents to every dollar men earn. other companies like intell, sales force and amazon report the same. president obama is marking equal payday by designating a national monument that's part of the women's rights movement. they were figures in the women's rights and suffrage movements. white house said pomade call pay for women a top priority.

in the wall street journal poll trump has 54%. john kasich 21%. ted cruz third at 18%. on the democrat side hillary clinton leads bernie sanders 55% to 41%. clinton has the lead amongst african-american and amongst women. sanders gets the backing of voters who consider themselves very liberal as well as younger voters. supreme court nominee garland will be back on capitol hill today to meet with key lawmakers. he has a breakfast meeting the senate chairman. he said he thinks the late justice's antonin scalia's vacancy should be filled by the next president. it is all part of the bitter dispute between the white house and congress of filling judicial vacancies on the high court and lower federal courts. a gym coach arrested. in 20 minutes what he is

oakland police now say they have a man in custody who has been lurking around homes in the oakland hills. surveillance cameras caught him on video. neighbors called him the ninja burglar. first reports of him prowling around came in last thursday morning. a woman saw help in her yard and called police. they did not find him then. another surveillance camera caught him taking several bikes loaded on to an suv driven by another person. neighbors we spoke with admit they were unnerved. >> i would rather not have anybody like that around me. i have two kids. i do not feel safe. i would be alarmed if i was overnight at a client's house and there by myself. >> police are asking for anymore surveillance video that shows the man. they are trying to figure out what the long, black object the man is carrying. a man is held on $2 million
bond this morning accused at a vicious attack at a house party in february. authorities released a blurry photo of the suspect after the incident. the contra costa and u.s. marshals booked him on suspicion of attempted murder. investigators say the victim was knocked unconcious and is still in the hospital. a judge ruled a livermore man accused of killing a woman and her young daughter in a dui crash must stand trial for murder. brian jones was arrested after his crashed his corvette in a family celebration last year. he had just been at the livermore wine festival. his blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit. southern california's largest water agency is buying a chunk of the sacramento delta in a water grab. the $175 million purchase includes islands in contra costa and san joaquin counties.
environmentists say they intend to divert water to southern california and use the islands to build water tunnels. agency delivers 1.7-gallons of water each day to people in southern california. the rain and snow this year is making for spectacular views at yosemite national park. the park announced water falls in the yosemite valley will reach their peak between now and may. in the past falls normally reach their peak in the third week of may. now the falls are the best they have been in a long time. last weekend the park closed the river to rafting for a few days because of the high water. >> every time i have been in yosemite i think when are the falls the best?

caught a man two sneak. he got a couple cheeseburgers and chatted on his cell phone. police believe the man got in the restaurant after a delivery person left. there is a $1,000 reward for tips in this case. >> when you are hungry you are hungry. starting today teachers and other workers can apply to carry concealed weapons at a central valley high school. the school board approved a plan that will let as many as five district employees have a gun at the high school including classrooms. kingsburg is 20-miles south of fresno. the new policy allows the school's superintendant to decide which staff members can have guns based on training and work records. they must chose to use their guns if there is a life-

as many as 40,000 verizon workers could go on strike tomorrow. they are mostly customer service representatives on the east coast. some of the main sticking points include a lack of protections for new workers and the possibility employees could be required to work far from home. verizon was offered a 6.6 raise. it is over the course of the contract. retirement benefits are competitive. fold man saxes agreed to pay $5 billion to sell allegations that it sold shotty mortgages in the subprime mortgage crisis. department of justice accused goalman of leading investors of mart-backed security. ked security.

now to new developments in a series of freeway shootings in the east bay. we are learning the chp is investigating yet another incident. the 17th along the i-80 corridor. alex savidge is live with what authorities are saying about this latest case. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. fortunately nobody was hurt in the latest car to car shooting in the east bay. authorities are concerned. they are trying to track down the folks involved in the latest shooting here. it happened 8:30 sunday night. authorities say what happened is that a minivan pulled up alongside a taxi carrying two passengers at the time. someone in that minivan opened fire on the taxi hitting the cab. fortunately no one inside the cab was hit by the gunfire. taxi driver pulled off the freeway into a parking lot. that's where the two passengers in the cab ran off before authorities could get to that scene. this was the 17th car-to-car shooting along the i-80 corridor since late last year.
authorities believe the victims are targeted as part of an on- going gang feud in and around the richmond area. it has many drivers on edge. >> most of freeway shootings are related to gangs and feuds they are having now. if a car is driving wrecklessly or aggressively driving back away from the vehicle. don't stay close it to. pick up your phone and call chp. >> reporter: right now richmond police are working alongside the chp and federal law enforcement agencies to catch the people responsible for this on-going violence. last week authorities carried out a joint raid. one man was arrested who investigators believe is connected to one of these shooting cases. chp and other law enforcement agencies still are searching for more people who may be
involved. in the meantime, the chp is increasing patrols along this stretch of freeway trying to put drivers at ease. even though these are not random shootings you have a lot of people traveling this stretch of freeway who are concerned. >> you have to be on the lookout. thank you very much. a morgan hill running coach has been arrested for sexual assault. the facility trains runners ranging in age 12 to 60. police say the charges involve children as well as adults assault at the gym. according to the chronicle he is a former head coach of a cross country team in morgan hill.
police are investigating whether or not there may be potential victims at the high school. there are new allegations that uc burkeley is not doing enough to stop sexual harassment on campus. paul chambers explained two graduate students took allegations against a professor to a state agencies. two women spoke alleging they were both victims of sexual harassment by cal burkeley professor blake wentworth. the alleged harassment started in the fall of 2014. they claimed the professor who works in this building subjected them to a oppressive, hostile work environment. he touched them inappropriately and talked about uncomfortable professors. >> it derailed my education and the university doesn't understand that. >> uc berkley said the campus is doing everything they can to
protect the students. there is another legal claim resulting from last year's deadly balcony collapse in burkeley. east bay times reports three young women who say they left the balcony before it collapsed are suing builders, owners and the apartment management company. the woman say they could have been killed or injury. the lawsuit alleges poor construction and water damage was ignored. balcony collapse killed six students last june. doug luzader is live in washington with how the administration thinks the zica virus is a $2 billion problem. >> reporter: the scariest thing may be the map the cdc distributed. initially we thought a dozen states or so could be within reach of this particular mosquito through this summer
season. now they are saying it is a much larger area than that. maybe 30 states. it is the tiny bug with the sometimes devastating bite. beyond that we just don't know much. >> everything we look at with this virus seems to be a bit scarier than we initially thought. >> reporter: at a white house briefing officials from the centers of disease control and the national institute of allergy and infectious diseases painted a dire picture. the zica virus is transmitted by the mosquito. there have been 103 cases all over the country. they are people who traveled to the countries where the zica virus exists. it causes birth defects. babies born with abnormally small heads and may be linked to a nervous condition. the tiny mosquitoes are headed north for the summer and we are
not prepared. >> we can not pretend we know everything we need to know. >> reporter: in texas blood banks are taking precautions. >> people who always donated blood are having to defer, even if they went to mexico for a day. >> reporter: this requires resources. they are tapping into left over funds targeted at the ebola virus. >> the money transferred from the ebola account will help bring us further. it is still not what we want. >> reporter: nation's institutes of health hopes to have a vaccine ready for trials this fall. there are a lot of if's here. >> thank you very much. a burkeley woman is celebrating a milestone at her job helping patients at a medical center.
she was 20 years old when she started her first day on the job. now she is 90 years old. in all those years of working she's only called in sick a total of four times. she works in patient relations four days a week in oakland and burkeley. during the course of her career, she's worked all over the hospital. >> in this business you never know what is going to happen. so many time use don't have a choice of thinking that's not even in my job description. you don't have time. you rise to the occasion and you do it. >> she looks amazing. >> we understand this is one of the aunt of one of our directors at ktvu. she say she always wears her three inch heels because they make her stand up straight. her passion is music and jazz and frank sinatra is her favorite. warriors are prepping to

a candlelight vigil will be held tomorrow at a san francisco best buy store where nicole fitz worked before she was killed. there are no signs of her 2- year-old daughter. she has possible ties to santa cruz, fresno and southern california. her body was found last friday at the park. officers will not reveal her cause of death. sources tell ktvu she was severely beaten. this killing shocked a woman who used to live next door to nicole in pacifica. >> i was boggled. i could not understand how this could happen. they seemed like really nice people. >> best buy released a statement: stockton police are looking for a disgruntled customer that opened fire on a taco truck. on sunday night employees and
customers hit the ground when a man jumped upon a table waiving what appeared to be a rifle. stockton police department says a shooter and another person were upset with the food and opened fire. >> i took care of my kid and my wife but the guys left. >> no one was hurt. the stockton police department is on the lookout for those two suspects.
an almeida county woman who went on a hunger strike hopes her protest will lead to a sentence against the man who killed her brother in a car crash. she lost 26-pounds and can only drink liquids until her body adjusts to solid foods again. she was campaigning for tougher driving laws. last year her brother was riding in the bed of a friend's pickup truck. the 20-year-old driver went too fast and failed to make the curb. her brother was ejected from the truck and died. >> it resulted in real pain for the rest of my life i won't have my brother. i turned 23 and i realize he'll always be 19. that's messed up. >> the driver pleaded no contest to vehicular manslaughter. he faces a sentence today of a year in county jail. she only drank water during her hunger strike and sat outside of the almeida county district attorney's office and carried a photo of their brother. let's head out to check the traffic with sal. >> right now traffic is looking good if you are coming up to the bay bridge toll plaza. it is backed up for only a 15 minute delay. there is no major problems. i should say good for this time of the morning. if this were sunday morning i would say this is atrocious.

in india a massive fire broke out at a garment factory. flames could be seen shooting out of the building. local reports say the ground floor of the building is the garment factory. the upper floors are apartments. crews rescued some people while others took refuge on the roof. it is feared many people may have been trapped inside. the cause of the fire has not been determined. seven people who fled after a deadly fire over the weekend in southern india turned themselves into police to face prosecution. at least 116 people were killed during an illegal fireworks show at a hindu temple. authorities told the temple not to hold the fireworks show because of safety concerns but they went ahead anyone. -- anyway. police are investigating contractors for possible homicide charges. today a top navy official will take his case to military leaders in camp pendleton about allowing women in navy combat. he'll address 300 leaders in the expedition force. he will talking about plans to integrate women into combat
