and cooler. this tracks right over northern california for the next 48 hours. local drizzle -- more likely late tonight and tomorrow morning but 50s and 60s -- and 70s as well. >> we are off to a decent start now. we don't have a lot going on. traffic moving along pretty well, we start off with a look at the bay bridge toll plaza westbound. looks pretty good coming into san francisco. there are no major problems here on interstate 80. after a comes down from highway 17 and traffic is also looking good on southbound 880 as you drive from heyward to union city. looks like we have a couple of issues on 580 near the 680
interchange. i will be looking at that next time. now let's go back to the desk. following a developing story where a man was stabbed to death overnight. we also just received footage from the car -- from the crime scene. janine de la vega -- janine de la vega has more. >> reporter: this is in east san jose, and police have completely cordoned off this entire shopping plaza. they have the crime scene truck here, homicide detectives were here earlier. we have limited information. we know that around midnight police got reports of a stabbing that occurred in this parking lot. what we're hearing is that apparently there was some sort of fight in the parking lot. a man was stabbed in the neck,
and he wandered into one of these -- one of these restaurants. he ended up dying. as far as we know there are no suspects in custody. police have been coming through evidence and collecting everything here, and they are expected to be here for the next several hours. we know there are several employees who actually work in some of these businesses and come early in the morning. right now police officers are not letting them inside because they don't want anything to be tampered with here at the crime scene. we are working to get more details for you. still unanswered questions about a double homicide in the south bay. they scoured the area of redwood looking for evidence after a 52- year-old man was shot and killed in his home on wednesday. >> shocking, unfortunate.
>> something like this really never happens at the redwood estates. >> police arrested a suspect, for 43-year-old andre redmond who they say -- arrested a suspect, 43-year-old andre redmond who they say sped away from the crime scene. investigators have not discussed another man's connection to redmond who falls -- faces murder and false imprisonment. a man is -- identified after he was accused of attacking his mother with innovax. 26-year-old daniel wrenches key lives with his mother -- where the attack happened wednesday morning. neighbors say he suffers from mental illness. officers say they tried to hit him with the taser after he hit his mother once, but they say he pulled out the taser prongs and hit his mother again, that time hitting her in the head. that's when they shot him.
both the mother and son are -- seriously injured but in stable condition. last night a man talked to us here about his new life after 25 years in prison. 79-year-old juarez to metress lived in a hotel -- lives in a hotel after doing time for his longtime abuse of a female relative. >> in prison did you receive treatment so that you would not molest again? >>yes i received treatment. what i do it again? no. the reason i got in trouble is that i had been drinking. >> nobody wants to have somebody convicted of these crimes living next to them so there is pushback from the community. as a police department our responsibility is just to notify people. >> fairfield police are hearing
from many who worried that his release creates a danger for every child in the city. a former san mateo police officer is under investigation after allegations of sexual assault. the district attorney has identified the officer as noah winchester. he's been under investigation since last fall when the number of women apparently key forward accusing him of sexual assault. winchester was immediately placed on leave, and has since resigned from the force. the ta says the investigation should be completed in a month or two. and infamous child psychologist convicted of molesting patients has died in prison. william ayers died of natural causes at the prison hospice in vacaville last month at 84 years old. he was three years into his sentence for molesting five boys in the 1990s. prosecutors claim there have been up to 50 young victims, but the statute of limitations had already passed. people appear divided over whether police chief greg suhr should step down.
the bristol five -- frisco five say their campaign is getting louder and larger. they say they can now call themselves the frisco 500. the board of supervisors is split over whether greg suhr should be replaced. >> the recent task force that came out -- the recent report identified severe systematic deficiencies. it convinces me that it's time for us to look for a new chief. >> the chip -- the fact is that chief suhr, this department under his leadership is moving forward with reforms, much- needed reforms. under san francisco city rules, only the main -- the mayor and police commission can fire a police chief.
they are expected to sit down with the city leaders this morning to talk about the issues they face. we will be talking to the mayor this morning and after 7:30, we will tell you what he has to say about the issues. demonstrations against chief suhr have prompted demonstrations at city hall. -- they cost more than $20,000 in damage including a metal detector and a glass window. new security measures include anyone entering the building after 5:00 in the evening must tell sheriffs deputies where they are going. those going into the building after 8:00 it might have to show id. sergeant amy lee will replace the unit's former president who was placed on administrative leave last month for exchanging racist text messages. the 48-year-old lee will also be the first vietnamese american to lead the correctional officers -- peace officers association.

welcome back, everybody, time now 4:43. fast food giant mcdonald's is testing fresh beef at 14 restaurants in dallas . it adds it's too early to tell whether fresh beef could replace frozen patties across the country. the test is limited to its quarter pounder patties. this comes as mcdonald's is fighting to turn around the business. now it's looking at improving core menu items. mcdonald's has more than 14,000 locations in the us, making it the biggest burger chain. and walmart testing out a new today subscription service -- shipping service.
last year walmart started to experiment with a three day shipping service called shipping pass that gave members three dave shipping -- three day shipping for $50 per year. now they will get free two-day shipping for $49 per year. standard shipping from walmart.com usually takes about a week. a computer glitch at phoenix airport causing a lot of problems. many people are waking up without their luggage this morning. the issue was resolved late last night but not before thousands of bags for left behind. the machines used to screen luggage stopped working so agents edison the bags two other airports to be properly screened. agents tested the system overnight to make sure it's ready for today's flight. a recall with a serious warning from you subaru owners -- don't drive your vehicle. subaru says it's 2016 and 2017 legacies and our backs have potentially dangerous steering issues. it says the steering

solving corrosion problems. several of the bridges steel rods failed after being exposed to water after three years and now they report the metropolitan transportation commission will use the money to re-grout the sleeves that hold hundreds of those rods on the bridge. the paper says a caltran engineer says re-grouting this leaf should lower the risk of corrosion. tax breaks for tesla could be extending to out of states -- out-of-state buyers. inside bay area reports that the bill is to promote tourism. right now out-of-state buyers have to pay california sales tax. the bill would give buyers a tax waiver as long as the vehicle is registered in another state within 30 days. mill supporters -- bill supporters say it would bring people back, but opponents say
