[ music playing ] it's a monday morning and martin luther king jr. means that a lot of people are not rushing off to school or work. what a pretty picture. i don't see rain, and we're not going to see it for a few days. we're going talk about the return coming up. welcome back this monday morning january 16th martin luther king jr. day. >> i am dave clark and steve is right here and ready to talk about the weather this week.
>> yeah, you ain't seen nothing yet until the rain comes back. >> very good. >> yes. >> a little dto. oh my gosh. he stole my heart. let's go and some fog yesterday was really really thick. allen sends us some of the fog yesterday from the mount rose highway and looking at the fog over lake tahoe on sunday. look at that snow. look at all of that snow. there's more on the way too. wednesday, friday, sunday sure looks like it as well. some clouds over the sierra and mixed sun and clouds. we had a lot of fog yesterday and still some patches but not like what we had yesterday. out to the valley can be thick thick thick. more rain on the way and by wednesday and late morning afternoon and by wednesday evening does not look like a whooper of a system, but it's the start of what is three systems. that will pay a visit. it's not today and mostly sunny today. it's
another cold one out there. the wood side down to 31 and mineral parks, is out near the airport and san carlos, hillsborough and in the 30s. there's the due east wind is bringing the cold air right on back. 18 up in truck can i and expect for the fog, it's mostly sunny. the system is just now inching into the picture. we have a day away before it comes up. we look for the highs and that's in the 50s for most. upper 40s if you're stuck in the fog. okay. you have had the feet up on the deck most of the morning is that true? >> yeah, there's not a lot going on. not many wrecks and even if there are, it's not caused a lot of traffic. let's go the toll plaza, if you're trying to get into san francisco and have to work today, it's holiday light here as you can see on the bay bridge toll plaza.
we had an aearlier accident on the bridge at the high-rise, but i did not see any traffic on the bridge. we're going to show you the maps in just a moment. let's talk about 880 as with you drive eefr to the oakland area. traffic is do wantlong relatively well ay. to mention that there's a crash on the bridge that's eastbound as you drive toward hayward. there's a little bit of slow traffic going this way to hayward in. it does pick up rather brief after the crash. westbound traffic is also a little bit slow past the scene. 7:03. let's go back to the desk. >> thank you. one man is recovering after being shot on a free way. the sheeter is at large. live in concord to talk to us about the latest in dent on the free way. >> reporter: the chp has not released a suspect description of that shooter. it's unknown if the victim really got a good
look at that person, but after the victim was shot, he ended up getting off the free way and driving here to a near bay gas station. this all happened yesterday evening at #5b8g p.m. gunshots were fired at two men inside of a black mercedez traveling south bound just 242. one man was hit and treated for his injuries which are said to be nonlife-threatening. the other man was not hurt. the shooter was traveling in another vehicle and drove off to concord. investigators do not have a motive in the case. >> we will be getting surveillance from here and any other direction if they were coming from any other direction, that's what the investigators are up on the free way and trying to plan out and trying to get that on what direction it came from. >> reporter: investigators are looking for anyone that might have witnessed the shooting on 242. the chp does not know if the shooting is linked to others
that have happened on other east bay free ways. now yesterday morning at 11:00 someone shot at a vehicle as it travelled on westbound 80 neararson boulevard. no one was injured in that shooting but another one in december on 580 where people were injured. no arrests in that case either. it's likely that the agencies maybe in communication with each other again to see if there's any sort of connection. back to you. >> thank you. time now is 7:05. celebrations being held around the country in honor of dr. martin luther king jr. >> i have a dream. scream [ applause ] >> the lives of little children will one day live in a nation that they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. i have a dream today. >> i know that you remember this

congressman lewis is a moral leader and great humanitarian and civil rights leader. he is not just about talk. he represents his district and helped to pass the voting rights act. she a magnificent legislature. don has no clue, i guess. it's a sham and disgrace that he really took him on the way that he did. not very ptd shl if you ask me. >> donald trump tweeted that the civil rights icon john lewis was all talk and no actionfter he said that trump was not legitmentment. caltran is going host the celebration train today in honor of dr. martin luther king day and that was the freedom train and it's going leave the station at 9:45 this morning. it will arrive in san francisco at 11:00. the 54-mile ride is to remember dr. king's 1965 march from selma to montgomery,
alabama. well congresswoman barbara lee is attending a breakfast and celebrating the life of dr. lee. it begins at #k9d and will be at the oakland airport hotel. that event is a fundraiser for allen temple health and social services. the other people are elyane brown and the former chairwoman of black panthers party. time is 7:08. we're four days away from the inauguration. in washington dc rehearsals are under way for the president and first lady. prepare for an i imagine ration is a massive undertaking. despite donald trump's trump for over the top production, he wanted something scaled back. >> we immediately went to the direction of the president elect that said look, i don't want to do that. it's not appropriate after what we went through. we need a more healing kind of an inauguration. we don't need a celebration of the victor.

descent al attorney that tifs. now it's 7:17 let's bring deceive in. okay. thank you, sir. a far cry from my yesterday when we had a lot of fog. now there's patches of it, but nothing compared to sunday. mainly clear and cold out there. a lot of 30 dz showing up. it's a mostly sunny day. looks nice and then the same on tuesday and then the changes are on the way for wednesday. by wednesday afternoon, everybody is back in the rain. mostly sunny and some of the fog is tough to bun off. you get the available moisture and as you know there's been a bunch here in january and then the nights are still pretty long. you get the temperatures and due point and get together and get that dense fog and boy i will tell you that it's really established itself out in the skrally. more rain on the way and then three systems on wednesday, friday and sunday and some rain in between. i want to see a whooper of a system and there it is. it's a big snow producer and a loft that is mainly in the areas of northwest and then that can still add up.
taste little bit for denver and also to the north of that freezing rain into the south of that severe weather. that's going to be a big weather maker across the country. there's the fog and a lot to go around. it's like the old days with the fog in the valley. it's true. people know what i'm talking about. we're 32 and we're at 31. a lot of 30s here in morgan hills and then willy has a 31 degrees. 31 in scotts valley and bolder creek and san that cruz at 36 degrees and then east wind is due east and oak land and hayward that's going to the coast with the warmer air. it's a cold air across the bay and then some of the fog drips back across. watch out on 80. 30s in archae dah and
then down to mona ray and then sacramento to fresno and then bikers field. for us it's mostly sunny and everything out of the north and three systems. one takes a turn in southern california right there. that's the system coming in but not until looks like wednesday morning and increasing clouds by wednesday afternoon and then the rain back in the mix and then wednesday night. not bad today. it's just a little bit cold out there. that wednesday, friday and then looks like sunday we get book into the mix with the rain and snow. this does not look to be as well as the pattern that we just had or i hope not. any projection means it's six or seven for the russian river areas. we need to watch that. san jose three and you can probably double or triple that amount for the mountains. thing os to watch as we go to the end of the weekend. a few upper 40s in if east if you're stuck in the fog. not

him holding what is a machete behind his back. he slashed a man from southern california. the victim has serious cuts to his head and hand. no word on a motive or if they knew the attacker. time is 7:36 and new a plan that crashed and at least 37 people were killed. the crash at that turkish boeing 747 destroyed 23 of the houses in the village there. microphone of those killed were on the ground. they went down in foggy conditions, and we don't know what caused the crash. one of them has the quarters and we expect to get more information on what happened. back here at home now to the latest on the oakland warehouse fire tragedy and for the first time we're hearing from the parents of the last person to get out of the warehouse fire a live. samuel maxwell is still in the burn unit at a bay area hospital. he suffered severe smoke inhalation and put into a
medically induced coma. we spoke to his parents and said the road ahead is very hard. >> reporter: bill and wendy maxwell left their home in stockton two days after the ghost ship warehouse fire and spend everyday at the burn unit visiting their son. they agreed to meet us at a cafe near the hospital. >> he text me and said i am out and alive. i had no idea what he was talking about. >> their son an oakland book seller was at the party several times before the fire on december 2nd. he smelled the smoke and was helping the dj look for any problems when the lights went out and flames came up through the floor boards. >> sam apparently felt his way along the wall and along the floor and got down and knew his way well enough around to find his way back to the front door. >> sam was said to be the last person to make it out alive.
he had friends take him to highland hospital, but transferred to s francis because of the smoke inhalation. >> when he made it to the burn unit, he found that his situation was much more serious and that he would have to be reduced into a coma. >> they put me through to his doctor meetly. she talked to me on what was going on with him and that they needed to intubate him because the throat was swelling. i said i have not seen him. i have not talked to him. she said how far away are you? i said an hour and a half. she said i'm sorry but i can't wait that long. >> sam spent the next five weeks in a medically induced coma. >> because of the different toxins and the different materials that were in the fire that were in the warehouse, whatever he inhaled affected his act to process oxygen. >> reporter: sam is now awake
and cannot move or walk they put a tube and that's what he is on now. >> reporter: the recovery is long, so his family and friends have fundraisers and go fund me. >> how the walk and reuse the hand. everything in his body has to come back to life. >> reporter: they don't know how much of the fire sam remembers, but he does not know the loss. >> he must have known and i am sure that his friends known that people had died, but they did not know at that point, nobody knew the extent. >> he certainly does not know what friends of him were trapped. >> reporter: they're grateful for the su prt of sam's friends, and they don't forget a second how lucky they are to have their son with them. in san francisco with ktvu fox 2 news. >> thousands of people held rally oefrs the weekend and showing the opposition to the republican efforts to appeal the
afford ble care act. nancy pelosi joined for a rally on the steps of city hall and last week the house and senate passed measures to pave the way for appealing the affordable care act. >> we need to speak up as california, americans, citizen. we need to keep the calm. we need to stand up and speak o >> nurses gathered together for a rally at richmond city hall and repealing it could cause 4.9 million california people to lose health insurance. in an interview president elect donald trump say that is the replacement care means insurance for everybody. it's going to be simpler and much less expensive. he say that is he will demand drug companies lower their prices and benefits for medicare would not be cut. he did not give any details on the replacement plan. obama talked about the

ice left 30 thousand people without power through texas and oklahoma. it took down trees and power lines. >> we heard these series of crashes and i started to lookout the window, and next thing that i know is there was one large limb, so i came out and access it then another one came and then another. i went back in and felt to go in and wait it out. >> it's impacting parts of texas. there was a lot of ice there and warnings in st. state. >> the time is 7:45. the warning in texas had fans stay inside of the packers and cowboys game. it read severe weather and shelter in place. they had to tell people to stay away from the big glass doors as 60-mile an hour winds hilt the area. they lifted the warning two hours after the end of the game. the stadium felt like a torture to dallas fans and green
bay reeled off scores and that was near the end zone and bryant runs it in here and aaron rodgers sent it to cook in the end zone and packers appeared to be on a role in the fourth quarter. cowboys died it up and a little later the two teams traded the field goals. they get one more just as the time expires and sending packers to atlanta in the nfc game next sunday. it was a good day for the divisional championship game and despite the weather they delayed the chief game because of an ice storm. the steelers never scored but pittsburgh kicker kicked six field goals and that's an nfl post season record. in the late quarter ware scored the second touchdown of the game right there. they went for two points and they caught it. the steelers were
flagged on the play. after the ten yard penalty that was a two point conversion and that was no good. the steelers won and now they're going face the patriots in the afc title game next weekend. well the 49ers say that the search for the head coach goes on. they interviewed former raiders head coach yesterday. he is the seahawks offensive line coach right now. he sat down with the team owner york in seattle. they said that they're interested in taking to the coordinators for the patriots and falcons. the nfl ban bans the job interviews while stay playing. there are more report that is the raiders owner will not wait long to file paper to move the team. both the nfl network and espn says that mark davis is expected to asking the league to move to las vegas soon. the deadline is february 15th. both reports say that davis is

good morning. the snow pictures continue to till ter in and this one from brian and that's from beautiful north star. thank you brian. he is good and on board. he always sends good information . that's thank you for that. there's snow and some fog. not as much as we had on sunday but then it's foggy and then clear lake and i believe it. there are some areas that are dealing with the fog and others are not. it's just drifting back from the valley and we're in the pattern here and then fog and clear and cold and then mostly sunny today and then tomorrow about same. you get all of the rain and then the longer nights and then the colder temperatures and then the due point sink up and gives you the truly fog and that radiational fog. rain is on the way. looks like it starts on what forecast modding you believe is on wednesday or late morning for others. three systems out of it.

life. the vote, legislation, your life. as he encouraged people to vote and see the relationship of the e elections and legislation of their lives. he also said we will -- he also said that if all of the equalities of -- of all the in equalities that he saw in justice in health care is the most in human. most in human. he was in the 60 s he said this and in another location and that's the demonstration and that's the wonderful and most people know that and in case you know that, cofounder of the farm workers association and 20012 of us that were honored to be at the white house to see president obama give her the highest honor knarr that he could and the
presidential medal of freedom. he had friends take him to the hospital and transferred to st. francis because of the smoke inhalation. >> when he went to the burn unit, he found that the situation was serious and that he would have to be induced into a comma. >> he put me to his doctor immediately. she talked to me on what was going on and said that they had the intubate him because the throat was swelling. i said i have not seen him. i have not talked to him. she said how far away are you? i said anour and a half. she said i'm sorry i can't wait that long. >> sam spent the next five weeks in a medically induced coma. >> because of the different toxins and the different materials that were in the fire and in the warehouse, whatever he inhaled affected his ability to process oxygen. >> he is now awake but still cannot move or talk. >> they put in a tube and so
