it is long gone. it is not going to hang around long at all. temperatures are on the way up and that includes 90s for many. that will be hillsboro, pleasanton, walnut creek, fremont, palo alto, piedmont in the 80s. piece month piedmont downtown 88 . san francisco 70, sacramento 80 and half moon bay, 66. fog is shallow, high pressure is smashing it so is a built-in over that. it is crushing it so 50s and 60s and we will get ready to warm up, east bay temperatures 50s and 66 already in brentwood. fog is the main story but here come the higher clouds. the remains of a tropical system that will move into the santa clara valley later this afternoon and tonight. and for everyone, overnight into tomorrow. the best opportunity to get anything out of that will be on lake tuesday to early
wednesday. it will be warm to hot from 60s to near 100. south -- sal is here at 7:go to pick you are giving a look that is usually not good . >> i noticed we do have slow traffic out there that is trying to line something up and i will show you what i'm looking up. it did not turn out as bad as i thought. we have a look at the richmond bridge approach and i thought it was going to see more traffic. unpleasantly supplies. surprised. not a lot here. the traffic is backed up. we did not see a lot of the slowing here at the bay bridge. that is a different matter. it is backed up for about a 20 minute delay if you are trying to cross into san francisco. interstate 880 has not slowed yet. usually later in the morning we got the crowd into downtown oakland. as we look at highway 4, that is a slow commute. highway 4 has been slow pretty much from write as you get out of antioch all the way over to concord.
the rest of the east bay commute husband moderate, san jose, 85 and 2101 has been getting slower. >> we are staying on top of breaking news to the east bay. firefighters and pg&e are at the scene of this house fire in livermore. this is on box been buckskin. these are live pictures. it looks like the flames are knocked down but firefighters are still there. neighbors told ktvu they heard loud popping sounds around 5:30 this morning as the fire was breaking out. now, there is an active catholic to deal with. looking at flames in the middle of your screen. firefighters say everyone got out of the house safely. interviews christina run down is there. she has been there for a while. christina, will give us a live update in a couple of minutes. following developing news in the east bay, el cerrito where officers are investigating a shooting involving an off-duty san
francisco police officer. tremont sara zendehnam is live to bring us the update. >> reporter: there are a course of unanswered questions but we are working on getting more information. the scene is completely clear right now. it cleared about an hour ago. a video of the scene earlier this morning and we will take down what we know so far. the el cerrito police department says an off-duty san francisco police officer shot a man in his 40s at about 10 am -- 10:00 last night on mosher lane off san pablo avenue. we do not know if either men lived there. the officer was not hurt. the man who was shot was taken to the hospital with non-life- threatening injuries. also the police officer, robert de la campa says the man did not have a gun but had some type of west weapon. earlier this morning, a white
car was seen. we don't know how that was connected. most of the investigation was focused on the sidewalk in front of the apartment complex but officers taped off the area while they collected evidence. they would not say what led to the shooting but said a lot of agencies are involved in the process . >> that is protocol here. the contra costa county district attorney, automatically was summoned because it is a police-involved incident as well as criminal investigators from the custer county shares crime lab and crime scene investigators. >> we don't know if the officer fired his service weapon, how long he has been with the department or if he has been putting put on administrative leave. we asked these questions on are working to get answers. the san francisco police department is aware of the situation. we have ached out and are waiting to hear back. in el cerrito, sara zendehnam, ktvu fox2 news. police in milpitas say what was first reported as an active shooter in a shopping mall last night turned out to be a smash
and grab robbery. it happened just before 8 pm. the mall was packed with shoppers including families with small children. the police arrived and found no evidence of gunshots but they did find a store where jewelry cases were smashed. police believe the noise led to a panic and a report that a shooting was underway. no one was seriously hurt but the search goes on for the robbers. christina run down will bring us a live report in the next half hour. in the meantime, police are looking for any possible connections between that robbery and a similar smash and grab robbery at the vintage fair mall in modesto just 3 hours earlier. the noise from that glass breaking also led to reports of an active shooter. police say that for men used a sledgehammer to break the jewelry case in modesto. surveillance cameras show the men in the store. a few people had minor injuries as they ran from the noise but
no one had to be hospitalized. there have been no arrests in either of the cases. new this morning, police are investigating a stabbing in an outside bar in west oakland. the east bay times says police responded to a bar on martin king luther way just before 8 pm last night. paramedics treated at least two people at the scene. there have been no updates as to their conditions this morning. one person was taken into custody by police as a possible assault suspect. the time is now 7:07. >> a haywood father is being remember after he was killed and killed by a car. the 52-year-old was one of two pedestrians hit along haywood. he died at the scene. tearful friends and family members went to a vigil last night. they brought flowers, cards and offered support to his widow.'s widow says she is happy about the kindness but told us what she really needs, more details
about what happened. >> i want answers if witnesses can come forward and cooperate with the police and find out what happened, exactly what happened. why it happened. i would appreciate that. >> police have not given us any more details about the incident. they did say the driver who hit mr. grenay stayed at the scene and cooperated. happening now, president trump in the french president, emmanuel macron are at the g7 summit in france. >> allie rasmus is here with an update . >> the leaders of the g-7 summit agreed to a $20 million fund to help contain wildfires burning in the amazon region. we are waiting for a joint news
conference scheduled between president trump and french president emmanuel macron after 3 datings of meetings on several subjects coming to a close in the summit. you can see the podium along with the u.s. and french flags. earlier this morning, french president mccrone said the u.s. supports the initiative to pledge $20 million to help the amazon rainforest. the fund was agreed to at a climate change meeting at the summit. president trump was the only g7 leader who did not attend the meeting. white house spokesperson said the president had other schedule meetings with the prime minister's of india and chancellor merkel. merkel was able to attend the summit. resident trump was visible and publicly speaking about the trade war with china. on friday, u.s. markets took a nosedive after the chinese announce additional tariffs on u.s. goods but the president
said he did have second thoughts about the escalating trade war with china but this morning, the president says china called over the weekend asking to resume talks about ending the trade war. china's foreign minister says he was not aware for many phone calls from the chinese government but a spokesperson says china hopes to resolve the trade war with the u.s. through call negotiation. right now, we are waiting for french president mccrone and president trump to close out the g-7 summit with that joint news conference. we will keep an eye on that and let you know what is said in the next update. back to you. the time is 7:10. east bay congressman dasani i will be talking about climate change and the environment. it is the latest in a series of town hall meetings about the subject. the meeting will start at 6:30 in the multipurpose room at kappa lindo high school in moraga. the doors open at 6 pm.

welcome back to mornings on 2. the time is 7:14. police in fairfield broke up an illegal sideshow over the weekend and the chp helicopter flew over it friday night, targeting several drivers in the sideshow. there for police say the chp helicopter spotted the cars spinning donuts near huntington drive in stanford court. >> the airship was overhead the entire time and through that airship, we were able to locate and finally take enforcement action and it did result in several citations and a couple of arrests.
>> dangerous sideshows have been a problem in oakland for a long time but police and other parts of the bay area say these illegal driving stunts are becoming more common in their cities. even in the suburbs . >> one-man remains hospitalized after big fight broke out at the raging waters park in sacramento. witnesses report there are about 40 peop from two different family groups involved. it started one family accuse the other of stealing a beach towel. we are told the conversation quickly elevated into shouts of profanity and turned physical. >> big group yelling back and forth at each other. they started getting a little physical. got serious and then a chair got broken over some guys had pics but i can't even take my kid to a waterpark without something crazy happening. it does not make me feel safe to go anywhere . >> raging waters closed for the day at 4 pm and gave free tickets for another day at the
park to everyone who was not involved in the fight. cal expo and sacramento police are trying to sort out what happened and what led to the fight and decide whether criminal charges should be filed. the hospitalized man is expected to survive. san mateo deputies arrested a 21-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting a woman in half moon bay. matthew hahn is suspected of sexually assaulting a woman in a car parked outside a restaurant back in february. the time is 7:16. firefighters making progress against a big wildfire that destroyed homes and forced evacuations. the mountain fire has burned 600 acres but is 90% contained. the fire started thursday morning near their mountain and dry creek roads. 7 homes and 7 upping things outbuildings have been destroyed. the causes under investigation. a brush fire in southern california forced evacuations and caused delays on freeways. it started about four clock yesterday afternoon near a freeway. the fire threatened homes and
shot a big plume of smoke into the air. you can see it all around los angeles. the city of glendale issued mandatory evacuations to about 100 homes but the emasculation order evacuation order was lifted late last night. only 30 acres have burned and it is about 25% contained. firefighters in berkeley are doing what they can to make sure people are prepared for a wildfire. yesterday they went over preparedness steps. firefighters want people to plan by registering with the city fire department and make two sets of plans to evacuate, one by foot the other right car. firefighters say people need to be aware and avoid dry areas and hills during red flag days . >> we have come up with an evacuation plan in berkeley, trained on it and we need the
public to be aware and practice it. >> at yesterday's drill, residents got the fire alert, evacuated and went to a mock a shelter to talk about what worked and what didn't pick a similar preparedness training was held in sonoma county on saturday. that area was devastated by wildfires in 2018. time is -- the airport now has two jabber boxes in terminal 2. they are small workspaces that look like phone booths but they have a desk and seats inside. the company that invented jabber boxes say they give you space to make important phone calls or even sit there and meditate. the jabber boxes rent for $15 for 30 minutes. happening today, it is back to school day in berkeley. classes begin this morning for thousands of students in the berkeley unified school district. those students are already being told about a big change in the school calendar next year. in the year 2020, berkeley unified will join the growing number of districts around the country were classes begin in the middle of august . >> some children are starting
the third week today. when we were kids, school started the tuesday after labor day. that was 100 years ago. sal, i'm sure you've seen traffic patterns shift as the school calendar gets started? >> absolutely and a lot of schools are back in. i am sure there are some that are not. we see a crowd that most schools are in at the bay bridge. we will start there and show you it is backed up this morning and as you drive into san francisco, there is nothing unusual about it. you can see slow and 880 is not slow yet if you are driving into downtown oakland. you should probably get on the freeway before the whole crowd does. it tends to happen in about 8:00 as you get a big crowd driving to downtown oakland. highway 4 is still pretty slow, 80 from hercules to berkeley has been slow and on the
peninsula, not that much slow traffic. the south bay commute is getting slower by the minute, up to sunnyvale and cupertino and even slowing here in downtown san jose. most of the time, i show you the picture and it looks good but you can tell it is a little crowded there. at 7:20, here is steve with the weather . >> a lot of high clouds on the way. some of them will work their way into the santa clara valley this afternoon, tonight and for everyone by tuesday. santa rosa, 51. livermore, 63. there was a fog at sfo but it is gone. 55 in the city. that is exactly what it should be on this date. the averages 55. fog some but it is running into a lot of resistance and that is called high pressure. warm to hot inland. temperatures bumping up, everybody above average on the forecast eyes. some, barely and livermore well above, the 98 average this time of year is 87 degrees. fog is there but there is a different pattern now. june and july, the i was in arizona four corners. now it is off northern

in hong kong, pro-democracy protests turn violent. demonstrators clashed with police. officers pulled out guns after a group of protesters chased after them with sticks. this weekend marked the 12th straight week of protest in hong kong and people calling for democratic elections and an independent investigation into alleged police violence. authorities in spain are investigating a bomb dating back to the spanish civil war that was found up a popular beach. this forced the evacuation of a beach near barcelona. an off-duty police officer found the device swimming in water about 10 feet deep. authorities immediately cleared the area. >> it was pretty shocking. we were thinking like flesh eating bacteria or maybe someone had drowned that i was not expecting a bomb. >> it is believed that bomb some 80 years. officials are searching the area where the device was found to make sure it is safe. not to a health check. a possible breakthrough when it comes to checking concussions. researchers have come up with a
new groundbreaking blood test that can help doctors detect serious brain injuries when ct scans fail to do so. nearly 5 million people are affected by traumatic brain injuries every year. half of concussions go undetected. tarmac a new study published in the redis dental journal found that athletes often have poor dental health. researchers found an alarming rate of tooth decay and gum problems among the 250 popular athletes. that is despite the fact that they brush their teeth twice a day. this problem is a poor diet. half of them in energy bars and 90% say they consume sugary sports stink drinks, both of which can cause tooth decay. park rangers are on high alert. first, breaking news and livermore fire crews are investigating a house fire and a gas leak. we are live at the scene and

work their way in. that could lead to some activity here but not for about 24 to 36 hours. until then, i would look for increase in some of the lower temps with higher crowd clouds and humidity going up to the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. >> starting in the call the cut counter, steve because they were couple of crashes near the tunnel. not exactly in them but close enough that is affecting highway 24 and we want to start with highway 24 and take a look at it. it is slow in lafayette and it picks up a little bit and slows again in orinda all the way to the tunnel because of the crashes we had one before and one after. one was more serious than the other but both have the same effect in slowing traffic through the tunnel. if that is the your commute, you will meet need more time for your commute. the toll plus is backed up for about 15 to 20 minutes delay. no issues on interstate 880
north and south. traffic on san mateo and dunbarton bridge commutes are okay and the traffic is filling in. 7:33. starting with breaking news coming in from livermore. there is a house fire and an active gas leak. ktvu's christina run down is there. you have been out there for a while and there has been a new development. what happened? >> reporter: good morning to you, dave. we want to pass on the new information within the last 5 minutes. a gas leak has been shut off by pg&e crews. you can see the area where they dug this, there was a whole by the street on the opposite side of the property where the garage is. we understand the fire broke out on the back side of the garage and there was a gas leak that ran along that side. that was the gas leak that was burning for several hours. also around 5:30 is when it started. that is when livermore and pleasanton fire departments received a call to come up to buck spent buckskin road in livermore. they got there and found part
of the home and garage on fire and found the gas leak. it took them a while to shut it off. they had to wait for pg&e crews to arrive and half an hour ago we spoke with the fire department about the holdup. >> the gas continues to leak because gas meter broke before the shut off so it is below the concrete. we are not able to shut off the gas at this time. we do have a pg&e crew that has to dig up the line and clamp it and turn it off. >> >> reporter: again in the last 5 minutes, the gas leak has been shut off and crews were able to quickly dig the hole, get underground and clamp the gas line. as of right now, we understand fire crews are continuing to mop up. there is a lot of foam out here that they used to suppress the fire. when we talked with a lot of neighbors, they say that they were surprised by this. they were woken up by a loud boom, and a popping noise and that woke them up and startled them. at no point was there any type
of but to the neighborhood according to the fire department. they continued to let the gas leak burn off so the gas would not go into other homes. they ended up shutting off gas in about a one mile radius to these homes. everything is under control now and the fire department is wrapping up their work on buckskin drive. christine are going, christina run down, ktvu fox2 news. el cerrito police are investigating a shooting involving an off-duty officer. it was reported about 10 pm last night on mosher lane near san pablo avenue. the wanted man was discovered outside an apartment building and was rushed to highland hospital. he is expected to survive. el cerrito police have not revealed what led to the shooting but a number of agencies are involved. our time is 7:35. san francisco police are
searching for thieves who stole a car battery worth thousands of dollars from a hybrid previous car. it happened thursday on webster street in pacific heights. marjorie who owns the previous says she parked her car on the street thursday evening and said she went back the next morning, found out thieves broke into her previous. she quickly found out this was no ordinary car break-in. >> first i looked down and the entire back seat was removed so i thought they had stolen the back seat. because i did not know. and i could not open the car. the electrical system was completely shot. we looked up and the battery weighs 180 pounds. we were completely amazed. >> miss kaplan estimates the car battery is worth about $10,000. police say the batteries for previous is are becoming hot items on the market. two men were arrested in connecith ti wstolen catalytic converter. it started when a man told police he returned to his car parked at turner and shore life parkway saturday night and discovered the catalytic
converter was missing. 20 minutes later, officers stopped two men for driving without a license plate. police say they saw a catalytic converter inside the car along with drug paraphernalia and later arrested the two men. workers were santa clara county authorized a strike. 97% of clerical workers, maintenance and hospital say the workers can strike if they wanted. contracts expired in june. the union vice president says members are asking for pay increases that will keep up with inflation. the union and the county have two more bargaining sessions set later this month extra make the time is now 7:37. the bay area's pride season will continue in oakland on september 8. san francisco held its pride celebration in june. the silicon valley pride festival happened over the weekend. people poured into shabbos park in downtown san jose. chief eddie garcia appeared in a vintage patrol car at the

cafeteria riot in san francisco , one of the first rights riots. it happened after the stonewall riots in new york. a march and rally in san jose marking a 100th anniversary of a woman's right to vote. there will be a march, speakers and soapbox speeches beginning at 10:30 this morning in front of the martin luther king jr. library on san fernando street. the 19th amendment which gave women the right to vote was passed by congress on june 4, 1919. it was ratified on august 18, 1920. a candidate for san francisco district attorney wants to talk about safety for women in the city. cindy loftus is holding a town hall meeting tonight. she wants to hear from women about their experiences and ideas on making san francisco safer. the meeting will be held at the community meeting space called mayonnaise at 7:30 tonight and should run for about an hour.

new this morning, a firefighting team from sacramento is in brazil battling the out-of-control rain forest. the amazon is often referred to as the lungs of the planet because the forest produces 20% of our oxygen. leaders attending the g7 summit in france arconsidering blocking a trade deal with brazil unless the country takes action. i do want to see the tragedy in brazil tackled

they can stay safe . >> a mountain lions were still roaming the area. it is unclear when it will reopen. san francisco is getting hundred $40,000 to pay for two projects. half the money will restore a habitat for the san francisco garter snake. right now there are only a few tiny patches of land work and live.. the manage land is managed by san francisco's parks and rec department. the other half of the money will build a one quarter mile trail for walkers and bikers and visitation valley which will make it easier to get to mclaren park and visitation valley middle school. uniform soldiers are being called into oaklands foretell district to help civilians pick up trash on the streets.

richmond bridge to traffic has been moderate. no major issues getting to san rafael. bay bridge traffic will be slow. 880 is also slow into downtown oakland. 8:go three. we are staying on top of breaking news in the east bay. firefighters and pg&e are on the scene of a house fire in livermore on buckskin road near moreland pound neighborhood park. neighbors tell ktvu they heard a large popping sound this morning as the fire was breaking out. about 7:30, the fire is out and a gas leak that was also reported has since been shut off. firefighters say everyone made it out of the home safely. christina wynn don't is on the scene right now and will bring us an update in a few minutes. following developing news from the east bay, el cerrito police are investigating a shooting involving an off-duty san francisco police officer. sarah tendon on is live with an update. >> reporter: good morning.
there are still a lot of unanswered questions that we are working to get information on but the scene right now is completely clear. it cleared a couple hours ago. we will take you to a video of what the scene looked like earlier this morning and will break down exactly what happened here late last night. the el cerrito police department says an off-duty san francisco police officer shot a man in his 40s about 10 pm last night big it happened on mosher lane of san pablo avenue in front of an apartment complex. we don't know yet if either man lived there. the officer was not alert but the man he shot was taken to highland hospital with non-life- threatening injuries. robert de la campa says the man who was shot did not have a gun but had some type of weapon. earlier this morning, a white car was at the scene but we don't know how that is connected. most of the investigation was focused on the sidewalk in front of the complex but officers taped off the area earlier as they collected evidence. they would not say what will lead to the shooting but said a lot of agencies are involved . >> that invokes protocol in contra costa county whereby
contra costa county district attorney is some and because it is a police involved incident as well as criminal lists from the contra costa county sheriff's office crime lab and police detectives and crime scene investigators throughout the evening. >> reporter: like i said, a lot of unanswered questions. we don't know if the officer fired his service weapon, how long he has been with the department or of he has been put on administrative leave. these are questions we asked and are working to get them answered. sf pd is aware of the situation and we have reached out to them but have yet to hear back. once we get information from then we will bring it to you live. for now, in el cerrito, sara zendehnam, ktvu fox2 news. milpitas police department was first reported as an active shooter at a shopping mall last night turn out to be a smash and grab robbery. it happened just before 8 pm
and the mall was packed with shoppers including families with small children. when police arrived they found no evidence of gunshots but did find a store where jewelry cases had been smashed and police believe the noise caused people to panic and a report of a shooting was underway. nobody seriously injured but the search for the robber continues. police are looking for a possible link between that robbery and a similar smash and grab at the vintage fair mall in modesto a few hours prior. the noise from that class breaking also led to reports there may be an active shooter in the mall. police are 4 menus a sledgehammer to break the glass cases at a jewelry store in the mall. surveillance cameras show the men inside the store. a few people received minor injuries while running away from the noise but nobody was hospitalized. police have not arrested anyone in either case. new this morning, police are investigating a stabbing at an outside bar in west oakland.
the east bay time says police responded to a bar on martin luther king jr. way near the 580 interchange test before 8 pm last night. paramedics treated two people at the scene. there are no updates on their condition this morning. one person was taken into custody and is considered an possible assault suspect . >> a husband is remembered after being hit and killed by the car. 52-year-old don grenay died at the scene. friends and family offered flowers and cards and his with a wants answers . >> i just want answers if witnesses can come forward and cooperate with the police and find out what happened exactly what happened. why it happened. i would appreciate that. >> police have not released details about the cross but did say the driver who hit grenay

investigators are searching for the cause of across of a privately owned cargo plane in an emergency landing at the santa barbara airport. 7 people on board escaped injuries. the plane caught on fire last night. the flightaware website shows the plane took off from hilo, hawaii and was headed to santa barbara. the cargo plane is on by a company that leases air tankers to firefighter agencies and movie studios. we are trying to find out why united airlines flight headed from sfo to hawaii returned to sfo. united flight 692 was more than an hour into the flight over the pacific when the crew announced they were turning and going back to california. the plane landed safely. new arrangements were made to get passengers to hawaii's big island. there is a new way to get peace and quiet while waiting for a flight at oakland international airport. the airport has two jabber boxes. they have a desk and seating inside. the company behind the jabber boxes say they provide space

taken care of. you can see the whole that was dug up by pg&e crews. they were able to get in there and clamp the line about an hour ago. now the investigation begins into what caused the fire. neighbors say it was around 5:30 when they were awakened by a loud pop or a boom noise and some came outside and saw a house burning on the 2100 block of buckskin road. the livermore pleasanton fire department says they believe the fire started on the backside of the garage and spread to other parts of the house. it spread to a neighboring fence with everyone inside was able to make it out safely and crews decided to let the gas leak burnout until pg&e crews arrived . >> i think livermore fire department did a great job. they got to it really quick and look like it was put out quickly. everybody was out safely. none of the surrounding houses really caught. >> reporter: it did take some time for the gas leak to be

hybrid previous, a battery worth thousands of dollars. it happened last week on webster street in the city's pacific heights neighborhood. the woman who owns the previous said she had parked the car overnight on the street thursday evening. marjorie kaplan so she then returned the next morning to find thieves had broken into her previous. she quickly learned that this was no ordinary car break-in. >> first i looked down and the entire back seat was removed so i thought they had stolen the back seat. because, i didn't know. and i could not open the car. the electrical system was completely shot. we looked up in the battery weighs 180 pounds. we were completely amazed. >> kaplan estimates her carburetor he car battery is worth about $10,000. previous batteries are now becoming a popular item on the black market. a traffic stop led to the arrest of two men in connection with a catalytic converter theft. at 10:00 saturday night, a car

for comfort for latin america's multibillion-dollar banana industry. >> we don't know for certain what happened to the banana cultivation's in venezuela and that sense, we must be very alert at the border to prevent the fungus from propagating through other avenues. farmers have been ordered to destroy carps crops in the area and a quarantine on the plantations but in extreme measures, it may not be enough to stop the spread of the banana-killing fungus. starbucks confirm the pumpkin spice latte will be back in coffee houses starting tomorrow. the weather will be 90 degrees here in the east bay. the return of the popular fall drink comes four weeks earlier than usual. starbucks also announced a new pumpkin cold brew on the menu. they have sold 124 million pumpkin spice latte since the drink was introduced. starbucks is also offering pumpkin cream cheese muffins, pumpkins boned stones and a pumpkin spice madeleine . >> i thought hollowing put pumpkins on the map but it really is, starbucks has done it. i did a story once in boston. a big o tire went out and said we have pumpkin spiced tires,, and and people came in because it was funny.
