"early today" starts right now. good morning. hillary clinton and bernie sanders battled in the campaign season's first one on one debate last night. clinton responding to sanders recent campaign line that she's not a progressive. >> i was asked if i'm a moderate or a progressive and i saidium ium 'm a progressive that likes to get things done. >> they also duked it out over one of the major narratives, candidate. >> our campaign is a campaign of the people, by the people and for the people.

clinton does represent the establishment. i represent, i hope, ordinary americans who are not all that inamerred with the establishment. >> honestly, senator sanders is the only person who i think would character me, a woman running to be the first woman president as exemplifying the establishment and i got to tell you that it is -- [ applause ] it is really quite amusing to me. >> later they battled over national security. >> we differed on the war in iraq, which created barbaric organizations like isis. not only did i vote against that war, i helped lead the opposition. look, we did differ. a vote in 2002 is not a plan to defeat isis.
