to look out for and alternate routes listed on our maps back to the news desk the woman accused of driving her car onto a crowded sidewalk along the las vegas strip... killing 1 person, and injuring dozens... will appear in court this morning for the first time. the official charges against lakeisha holloway were filed by the district attorneys office. fox5s miguel martinez-valle tells us what the

taking into account in their case. " my thoughts are that what she did is inexcusable. this was not a lady that ran a red light, this was not a lady that made a wrong turn. this was a lady that turned onto a sidewalk, ran over many people, continued to drive on a sidewalk, went back on to the street, and then back onto an intersection where there was a crowd of people." the district attorneys office filed three charges against the las vegas strip crash suspect... and these three charges alone carry heavy penalties... officials are saying the death penalty is a consideration for her murder charge, her 3-year-old daughter, who was in the car at the time of the crash, is currently with child protective services and a new nevada law makes leaving the scene of an accident punishable by up to 20 years in prison... " i think its a fair thing to say its a starting point because i do anticipate multiple charges." holloway didnt give a reason as to why she ended up on the sidewalk but did tell police she was having a stressfull day and had been living in her car

about a week... holloway's family has spoken out in her defense, saying they dont believe she rammed into people on purpose... " you know shes exhausted, she's not this villain that theyre creating her to be." in a press conference the president of the oregon based non- profit holloway was a part of spoke of his positive experience her... " lakeisha was a rolemodel, she was a rolemodel for many of the youth that we serve in our community." he said holloway gave no signs of trouble when she graduated the portland opportunities industrialization center, but he mentioned they lost contact with her once she graduated and moved away... " we had two staff members in particular who spent a lot of time with lakeisha and they were shocked to hear what had happened." still las vegas authorities are saying that videos and witness testinomy show that the crash was not an accident... " and the fact that she kept driving while people were trying to get her to stop, she admited that a body bounced

so ofcourse thats all taken into consideration when we determine what crimes she should be charged with." miguel martinez- valle fox5news local las vegas. three of the victims from the deadly crash are still in critical condition at umc. and three patients are in good condition at sunrise hospital an overnight accident ended with an officer and driver in the hospital. it happened around 1 this morning on buffalo near smoke ranch road. police say a woman was driving an s-u-v when she turned in front of a patrol car causing a crash. the s-u-v rolled over and both the woman and officer were taken to the hospital and are expected to be okay. police say alcohol did not play a role in the incident. metro addressed the 3 officer involved shootings that happened in the valley last week. in one --a metro officer suffered a gunshot wound. metro showed a video of the

before police shot a woman in self defense yesterday. "we never know what is the underlying reason for why this person wants to hurt themselves or commit suicide. and so we want to peacefully resolve those" " it happened last monday-- when police were involved in an eight hour standoff with a woman at a home near nellis and craig. a swat team broke in "brenda kimberling's" door when they thought she had fallen asleep, and she came out with a rifle. you can see kimberling aimed the gun at police before she was fatally shot. later, that same night-- there was another officer involved shooting this time--police say they were investigating 3 men for robbery when the father of one of the men pointed a gun at officers. "the difficult thing we don't understand in this case is why the father of one of the suspects came out of the house as our two officers were attempting to take those two suspects into custody and raised a gun toward our officers." " this incident happened near

police fired back at the suspect, who they identified as roberto sanchez. sanchez died in the shooting. metro also spoke about how relieved officers were, to find the suspect in thursday's shooting... after one of their own was injured. they say they worried teag fox had left the perimeter and they wouldn't find him... but detectives followed up on leads and they found him quickly. in national headlines, sergeant bowe berghdahl will face another pretrial on january 12 for walking off a base while serving in aghanistan back in 20-09. "stimson says: "just like in the civilian system, the person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. but above and beyond that, they're still in the military" berghdal was arrained on tuesday--in a hearing in north carolina--but did not enter any pleas. his charges include desertion and misbehavior before the enemy. he was held by the taliban for five years before being released in a prisoner swap. if convicted he

a member of the secret service is missing his gun and his badge after they were stolen in broad daylight. according to a police report-- the items were stolen out of the agent's personal vehicle which was parked near the white house in downtown washington. a c-n-n source says the agent works in the division which guards president obama and his family. the agent's radio, handcuffs and a flash drive were also taken. no word on what was on the stolen flash drive--but it was encrypted--and locked with a password. the secret service declined to comment on the incident. marriage licenses in kentucky will no longer show the names of county clerks. kentucky's governor has changed the rules for the state's marriage licenses-- saying he wants to honor the religious beliefs of all the people living there. county clerk kim davis made national headlines in september-- for refusing to issue licenses to same-sex couples. because she said putting her name on the documents would violate her christian beliefs. senator bernie

first 2016 presidential candidate to launch t-v campaign ads here in nevada. you may have seen it... since it just started yesterday. "bernie sanders...husband, father, grandfather. an honest leader, building up a movement with you, to give us a future to believe in. i'm bernie sanders and i approve this message. from a russian rocket. lets bring up the video so you can see for yourself folks from california to arizona and many of you here in las vegas saw that fireball as it shot across the sky just after 6pm our phones lines in the newsroom blew up. the twitter machine goin' crazy with all sorts of comments one guy wrote "ufo coming to take donald trump back to his home planet." another commenting "what's all the fuss about? it was obviously santa's test flight" now there were also reports of a possible meteor impact out at mile marker 22.. nhp was sent to check things out, they say nothing was found. so there you have it -- while it was pretty awesome to see, we can reassure you it was nothng to worry about. some homeowners wanted to save

start seeing more expensive bills. the public utilities commission is giving n-v energy the power to pay solar customers less, for the energy they produce. solar customers will now get back less than a fifth of what they receive now. regardless of how long they've had solar panels. the p-u-c is also allowing n-v energy to increase their flat service fee for solar customers. the p-u-c say it agrees with n-v energy's argument that non-solar customers pay more, to make up for what solar customers no longer pay. we spoke to solar customers disappointed with the decision. "this cost a little over 27 thousand dollars." "had i known this was coming i would not have put solar on the roof."

now filing a lawsuit against governor brian sandoval. more than 15 trucksover turn on california freeways-- closing them down. it happened on tuesday after high winds toppled several of the big rig trucks. wind gusts of up to 80-miles an hour are responsible for the trucks being overturned. the california highway patrol says this is a rare occurrence. highway 14 was re-opened after several hours. but officials are warning those driving in the area of mojave california to exercise caution- because winds are still high.

services task force... adults between the ages of 40 and 75 should take a low to moderate dose statin. which is known to lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart attacks. this is for people who have at least a 10-percent chance of getting the disease over 10 years. the medications lipitor, crestor, zocor and other statins have been the standard treatment for lowering cholesterol for more than 20 years. and a new study has found that kids as young as 2 years old can navigate touch screens. researchers in ireland more than 73- percent of children between one and 3 years old play with a touch screen device for an average of 15 minutes a day... it's still too early to tell if this is good or bad for a child's development-- and may depend on which apps they use. a baby in ohio is celebrating his

and he got the most important gift he will probably ever get. the gift of life from his mother, this after she gave him a piece of her liver. a few months after brodie was born--his parents noticed his eyes and skin looking yellow. they went to cleveland clinic children's hospitla for extensive testing. there, little brodie, was diagnosed with a rare liver disease. the best chance to save his life was to find a living donor. "instinctively, as a mom, whose sliver of liver is better than yours? like, you know? we made him!" "he was 5 months and 5 days on his new liver birthday where i was able to give him a sliver of liver and we were able to save his life." the little boy is now seven months old and his mom says he is thriving. adding, even if they don't have a gift under the tree this year- they've already been given the

taking a break from their show at the rio to help save lives. penn and teller are heading up the 13 bloody days of christmas. they've teamed up with united blood services.... looking for people to donate blood. it is the 15th year for the event. each blood donation can save up to 3 lives. the duo-- aren't letting donors walk away empty- handed. "1:04:27"and when people come in and give blood at one of the blood centers not only do they get the fun of probably saving someone's life, but they also get a couple tickets to see our show. we give away a bunch of tickets every year for people who are kind enough to give blood and help their fellow humans, free coffee." " the blood drive will run through january 1st at designated united blood services locations. there are donation centers on west charleston, west craig and whitney ranch drive in henderson. a record number of people are enrolling in insurance plans through nevada healthlink.

" i mean as prosecutors we look at the entire picture of events, you dont look at one single fact or one single circumstance, you look at the whole situation as a whole, and the fact that she kept driving while people were trying to get her to stop, she addmited that a body bounced off her windshield." the district attorney says he's expecting more charges as the investigation continues including multiple attempted murder charges for hitting nearly 40 people with her car. the woman who struck and killed a man who was pushing his grand-daughter in a stroller has been sentenced. galina kilova will spend up to 15 years behind bars for the accident that happened before thanksgiving in 20-14. "i just want to say i'm really sorry. and i'm really sorry for your loss. if there was anything i can do to bring him back and to just make things better i would "

of leaving the scene of an accident-- that killed 63-year-old michael grubbs. his grand daughter survived with only minor injuries. she says at the time-- she didn't even realize she had hit someone. the 6 american troops who were killed in a bombing in afghanistan--have been identified. among them-- a female officer who was one of the first openly gay u.s. service members. the other victims include air national guard technical sergeant joseph lemm-- and staff sergeant louis bonacasa. u.s. air force staff sergeants michael cinco, peter taub, and chester mcbride--are also among those killed. the attack was the deadliest on u.s. forces in afghanistan this year. a 19-year old survivor has been found alive- after being trapped under the rubble from the massive landslide in china--for nearly 60 hours! these images from c-c-t-v show the rescue - as he was pulled from the debris and taken to a hospital. more than 70

a witness caught this video as a firefighter is forced to jump out of a window while battling a blaze in china. he caught fire while attempting to put out an apartment fire from the inside of the unit. when he realized he was on fire he jumped out the second story window and rolled on the grass to put it the flames. its reported he only suffered minor injuries. people in reno experience a series of earthquakes overnight the earthquakes started at around 6 in the evening... and 3 more were felt between 6 and around 10 o'clock. a geological survey reports the strongest earthquake measured at a magnitude of 4-point- 4. people from vegas to california and even arizona reported seeing an unexplained light in the night sky. fox5's shannon moore is live this

obviously it was santa -- he was getting an early start.. no guys, we made a few calls and can confirm this morning.. the fireball was nothing more than debris from a russian rocket. lets take a look at the video thousands of people reported seeing the light. we got a few emails into the newsroom and of course dozens of calls.. many of you worried it was a possible ufo. social media blowing up with comments like "its the end of the world." one woman with more postive thoughts writing it was a beautiful christmas star shining light on the valley again, we know this morning.. the fireball was just part of a russian rocket re- entering the atmosphere nhp was sent out to investigate reports of a meteor impact near mile marker 22. they tell us.. nothing was found.

boulder highway. it is being called one of the most dangerous roads in our valley. metro police handed out pamphlets to everyone on boulder highway yesterday. it was full of information on crossing the street safely for both pedestrians and drivers. police say eight of the people killed were pedestrians... and people not using the crosswalks is a major concern. capt owen: all of those have been pedestrian related errors william lamar ped- people dont use the cross walk a lot especially on the flamingo part " getting more installed is a long and difficult process. officials are working with the county, state, and improvements. not the "welcome to las vegas" she was hoping for. we hear from a

a school lunch lady in idaho has been fired because she gave a student who didn't ahve any money--a free meal. she says she was working as a server last tuesday when a 12 year old girl approached her and said she was hungry but didnt have any lunch money. "so, i handed her the food and said, 'here. we'll take care of it in a minute.'" "cause they're hungry. what do you do? send them out there, so they can get it taken away and thrown away? she says she was sent home and told the school would call her. a few days later she was sent a letter saying she was being dismissed for stealing. but many people living in the area say, the incident signals a bigger problem. ( dean molder / lives in pocatello ) "if a kid cannot pay for a meal or a parent cannot pay for a meal and a person is punished for feeding that kid. somebody's got it wrong. something is not right." bowden has now hired a lawyer-- and an online petition in her favor is growing. it's not too late

three of the victims from the deadly crash are still in critical and three good condition at sunrise hospital an overnight accident ended with an officer and driver in the hospital. it happened around 1 this morning on buffalo near police say a an s-u-v when she turned in front of a patrol car causing that crash. the s-u-v rolled over and both the woman and officer were taken to the hospital and are expected to be okay. police say alcohol did not

metro addressed the 3 officer involved shootings that happened in the valley last week. in one --a metro officer suffered a gunshot wound. metro showed a video of the moments right before police shot a woman in self defense yesterday. "we never know what is the underlying reason for why this person wants to hurt themselves or commit suicide. and so we want to peacefully resolve those" " it happened last monday-- when police were involved in an eight hour standoff with a woman at a home near nellis and craig. a swat team broke in "brenda kimberling's" door when they thought she had fallen asleep, and she came out with a rifle. you can see kimberling aimed the gun at police before she was fatally shot. later, that same night-- there was another officer involved shooting this time--police say they were investigating 3 men for robbery when the father of one of the men pointed a gun at officers. "the difficult thing we don't understand in this case is why the

suspects came out of the house as our two officers were attempting to take those two suspects into custody and raised a gun toward our officers." " this incident happened near nellis and stewart. police fired back at the suspect, who they identified as roberto sanchez. sanchez died in the shooting. metro also spoke about how relieved officers were, to find the suspect in thursday's shooting... after one of their own was injured. they say they worried teag fox had left the perimeter and they wouldn't find him... but detectives followed up on leads and they found him quickly. in national headlines, sergeant bowe bergdahl will face another pretrial on january 12th bergdahl is accused of walking off a base while serving in aghanistan back in 20-09. customers may start seeing more expensive bills. the public utilities commission is giving n-v energy the power to pay solar customers less, for the energy they produce. solar customers will now get back less than a fifth of what they receive now. regardless of how long they've had solar panels. the p-u-c is also allowing n-v energy to increase their flat service fee for solar customers. the p-u-c say it agrees with n-v energy's argument that non-solar customers pay more, to make up for what solar customers no longer pay. we spoke to solar customers disappointed with the decision. listed on our maps back to the news desk the woman accused of causing the deadly crash on the strip will be in court this morning. the district attorney says they've filed 3 charges against lakeisha holloway-- and more could still come... the first is murder with a deadly weapon-- for killing 34 year old mother of three jessica valenzuela... officials are saying under nevada law, the death penalty is a consideration for this charge... she was also charged with child abuse and neglect. because her 3- year-old daughter was in the car at the time of the crash. her third charge is leaving the scene of an accident. a new nevada law passed just months ago makes this punishable by up to 20 years in prison... " i mean as prosecutors we look at the entire picture of events, you dont look at one single fact or one single circumstance, you look at the whole situation as a whole, and the fact that she kept driving while people were trying to get her to stop, she addmited that a

her windshield." the district attorney says he's expecting more charges as the investigation continues including multiple attempted murder charges for hitting nearly 40 people with her car. the woman who struck and killed a man who was pushing his grand-daughter in a stroller has been sentenced. galina kilova will spend up to 15 years behind bars for the accident that happened before thanksgiving in 20-14. "i just want to say i'm really sorry. and i'm really sorry for your loss. if there was anything i can do to bring him back and to just make things better i would " she was found guilty last month of leaving the scene of an accident-- that killed 63-year-old michael grubbs. his grand daughter survived with only minor injuries. she says at the time-- she didn't even realize she had hit someone. bail is set at one million dollars

"he put so many people at risk. and he severly injured this officer. and he took a large portion of metro from their ordinary duties while they were searching for him. " teag fox appeared before a judge tuesday, metro says fox shot their officer last thursday, while the officer was investigating an unrelated disturbance. it took a six hour manhunt to find fox. the officer is expected to recover. a public defender for fox argued his client did not have a previous criminal history. fox is due back in court january 6th. the 6 american troops who were killed in a bombing in afghanistan--have been identified. among them-- a female officer who was one of the first openly gay u.s. service members. the other victims include air national guard technical sergeant joseph lemm-- and staff sergeant louis bonacasa. u.s. air force staff sergeants michael cinco, peter taub, and

among those killed. the attack was the deadliest on u.s. forces in afghanistan this year. a 19-year old survivor has been found alive- after being trapped under the rubble from the massive landslide in china--for nearly 60 hours! these images from c-c-t-v show the rescue - as he was pulled from the debris and taken to a hospital. more than 70 people are still missing. a witness caught this video as a firefighter is forced to jump out of a window while battling a blaze in china. he caught fire while attempting to put out an apartment fire from the inside of the unit. when he realized he was on fire he jumped out the second story window and rolled on the grass to put it the flames. its reported he only suffered minor injuries. people in reno experience a series of earthquakes overnight the earthquakes started at around 6 in the evening... and 3 more were felt between 6 and around 10 o'clock.

14 people have lost their lives on boulder highway. it is being called one of the most dangerous roads in our valley. metro police handed out pamphlets to everyone on boulder highway yesterday. it was full of information on crossing the street safely for both pedestrians and drivers. police say eight of the people killed were pedestrians... and people not using the crosswalks is a major concern. capt owen: all of those have been pedestrian related
