on friday, the same day he released a new album called "blackstar." (bowie singing) a representative for bowie says he died peacefully, surrounded by family. david bowie was 69 years old. one of bowie's first vegas performances was at the thomas and mack center back in 1995. one of his last was at the joint at the hard rock back in early 2004. make sure to tune in to more at 9am, they'll have the latest on this story and reaction from celebrities and local vegas entertainers. runnin rebels head coach dave rice has resigned from his position with unlv. he spoke at a news conference last night, saying it was an emotional decision to make, especially mid

union address tomorrow night. the president will lay out his plans for his final year in office. white house officials say he'll focus on long term issues facing the country, like free community college, a higher paid sick leave, even after he's out of office. president obama announced there will be an empty seat next to the obama, to violence victims. will be one of obama's guests of honor during the state of the union tomorrow night. cynthia dias served during the vietnam war as a registered nurse. after completing her service... she was diagnosed with p-t-s-d. dias says it caused her to lose her job and home. "i was in a women's shelter at one time and i was in another family shelter the shade tree. so homelessness i have experienced firsthand." dias is now a resident and volunteer at

downtown. it's a non-profit helping homeless veterans get access to counseling and health services. she says she still can't believe she's going to be the first lady's guest of honor. "i'm still in shock. until i get there i'm amazed. i mean i feel very privileged to go there and be there." las vegas is working to reduce veteran homelessness, as part of a challenge launched by michelle obama in 2014. veterans village founder arnold stalk will also be at the white house to watch the president's address. it was a night full of glitz and glamour at the 73-rd annual golden globes in hollywood. lady gaga, leonardo dicaprio, jennifer lawrence and my personal favorite matt damon taking home awards last night. fox's michael tammero has the highlights

longer susceptible to hacking. the national highway traffic safety administration says a recall of 1-point-4 million vehicles last summer closed a security hole that allowed hackers to take control of fiat chrysler vehicles through the radio. they say hackers were able to cut the brakes, shut off the engine, and even remotely drive the car off the road. officals say the problem was only with the fiat chrysler-made models. if you're lucky enough to own a tesla, your car can now park itself. a new software update sent to some tesla cars over the weekend will allow the vehicles to park themselves without a driver inside. but the company says the feature should only be used on private property. tesla's ceo says the self-parking feature is a step toward their goal of letting drivers summon their self-driving, self-charging cars from anywhere -- by using their smartphones. p-b-r is expected to announce a new

the average price dropping to just 2.05 a gallon. fox5's shannon moore is live at tropicana near paradise with the details industry analysts predict it could fall to just a dollar a gallon this year.. in some areas current prices -- e west since 2009. the national average is 15 cents lower per gallon this year compared to last year at this time. analysts say the cost for crude oil is declining . the average cost for a gallon here in las vegas has dropped 5 cents in the past week alone to an average of $2.51. now we are a bit higher than the national average of just $1.97 -- thats according to gas buddy.com reason being partly because of fuel taxes and the fact we get our gas from california. the west coast also also has strict environmental requirements, meaning trading prices are higher.

it's now day ten of the oregon protest... a small group of protesters continue to camp out on a wildlife refuge. ammon bundy, the son of nevada rancher cliven bundy, and his supporters refuse to leave until the sheriff addresses the group's grievances. they want two imprisoned ranchers, dwight and steven hammond freed after being convicted of arson and given five-year sentences. the hammonds say they set fire to public land to protect their property from wildfires. the protesters did not accept the local sheriff's offer for safe passage out of the state. back here in las vegas -- the native american community and local artists are protesting against the bundy family. some demonstrators say they're upset with cliven bundy's unpunished illegal grazing in southern nevada. the native american community says they stand with the northern pauites... and want to bring attention to "gold butte" in nevada --

"that area is being destroyed bullet holes in petrocliffs, overgrazed, its trashed. we want it be conserved and protected. i think this is best way to bring positive energy towards it." protesters want to see the land protected for everyone to enjoy. another deadly weekend on valley roads after eight people lose their lives. the most recent happened yesterday morning near carey and losee. police say a man was speeding when he lost control of his s- u-v. the vehicle fell more than 25- feet from a bridge onto the railroad tracks below. the driver and his female passenger were killed. "so a good reminder for us to slow down. this is something tragic where we've lost two people. it's the first fatal crash for north las vegas. so a good reminder to slow down. you aren't just affecting your life. you're affecting other people's lives

said if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. the coroner is working to identify the victims right now. traffic was backed up for hours north of the apex on the i-15 after a man rear- ended a semi- truck. it happened sunday morning near "love's travel stop". n-h-p says the driver of the cadillac died on the scene. the semi-truck driver was not hurt. a motorcyclist was killed in a crash sunday morning near the lake mead national recreation area. police say the park service is investigating the crash. no word yet on what happened. two elderly people were killed saturday night when they turned in front of a truck at boulder highway and desert inn. the victims were taken to sunrise hospital where they both died. the driver who hit them was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. police are still investigating this one. in national news... police have arrested four people in connection to the group rape of an 18-year old woman at a brooklyn playground. a fifth suspect is still being sought. police the teens ages ranging from 14 to 17, assaulted

thursday night as she and her father walked through a playground. police say one of the suspects pointed a gun at the father and told him to leave. authorities say each of the five raped the woman. the father returned with police officers, but the attackers were gone. authorities say two of the teens were turned in by their parents. mexican authorities are now turning their attention to actor sean penn, in the el chapo case. his real name is joaquin guzman. and he was recaptured early friday-- after being on the run for 6 months for escaping from a mexican prison. five of el chapo's people were killed during his capture.. several others, arrested. but what's so bizarre about the case is this-- a reported secret meeting took place between penn and the drug lord-- and on saturday, rolling stones published an interview article online, written by penn-- apparently conducted by video messaging. the man who runs a brothel... now wants to

rancher cliven bundy, and his supporters refuse to leave until the sheriff addresses the group's grievances. they want two imprisoned ranchers, dwight and steven hammond freed after being convicted of arson and given five-year sentences. the hammonds say they set fire to public land to protect their property from wildfires. the protesters did not accept the local sheriff's offer for safe passage out of the state. back here in las vegas -- the native american community and local artists are protesting against the bundy family. some demonstrators say they're upset with cliven bundy's unpunished illegal grazing in southern nevada. the native american community says they stand with the northern pauites... and want to bring attention to "gold butte" in nevada -- where the bundy's had a standoff. the b-l-m had to withdraw from that situation. "that area is being destroyed bullet holes in petrocliffs, overgrazed, its trashed. we want it be conserved and protected. i think

bring positive energy towards it." protesters want to see the land protected for everyone to enjoy. another deadly weekend on valley roads after eight people lose their lives. the most recent happened yesterday morning near carey and losee. police say a man was speeding when he lost control of his s- u-v. the vehicle fell more than 25- feet from a bridge onto the railroad tracks below. the driver and his female passenger were killed. "so a good reminder for us to slow down. this is something tragic where we've lost two people. it's the first fatal crash for north las vegas. so a good reminder to slow down. you aren't just affecting your life. you're affecting other people's lives as well." police have not said if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. the coroner is working to identify the victims right now. traffic was backed up for hours north of the apex on the i-15 after a man rear- ended a semi- truck.

near "love's travel stop". n-h-p says the driver of the cadillac died on the scene. the semi-truck driver was not hurt. a motorcyclist was killed in a crash sunday morning near the lake mead national recreation area. police say the park service is investigating the crash. no word yet on what happened. two elderly people were killed saturday night when they turned in front of a truck at boulder highway and desert inn. the victims were taken to sunrise hospital where they both died. the driver who hit them was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. police are still investigating this one. in national news... police have arrested four people in connection to the group rape of an 18-year old woman at a brooklyn playground. a fifth suspect is still being sought. police say the teens ages range from 14 to 17. they assaulted the woman thursday night as she and her father walked through a playground. police say one of the suspects pointed a gun at the father and told him to leave. authorities say each of the five raped the woman.
