arizona isn't the only option... for nevadans looking for powerball tickets. stores in california are selling them as well... and there are a few more near the state line than you might think. our team coverage continues... with fox five's ophelia young - live at the lotto store in primm. powerball players are not messing around here - got tickets early so they won't miss the 7 o clock deadline and lines are now only long. further down the 15 - there were no lines at all. but the last few days have been the best business days in years- like in nipton. "nat train" nipton california - town of about 30 people - 10 minutes off the 15. "we like to say were conveniently located in the middle of nowhere." on an average day - the nipton trading post gets about 40 customers - over

been pretty crazy with the lottery but we love the lottery." thousands in line - up to a four hour wait at times. the frenzy has been so big - "it doesn't say billions - it says millions so i guess we cant really change it." the quaint little store cant keep up. "i think were going to have to get a new sign!" it's the most seen since the lotto store in primm opened. before then-- in the early 90's the nipton trading post says they were the largest retailer of lottery tickets in california. "nat" since then they've been known as the little gem - to regular lotto players in southern nevada - who drive right past primm another 20 minutes. today "nat of cash register." new players are finding them on the map. "we stopped by primm and the line was serious long and we thought about it and we took the extra 20

of there in 10 minutes winning tickets." "when i saw the disaster i looked up on my google on the phone and then discovered this place." other businesses in nipton also cashing in. "we've actually had some people come and stay in hotels so they can be first in line in the morning - which is actually pretty smart." lottery stores make a 6 percent commission on all ticket sales and a million dollar bonus for a ticket that wins the jackpot. but to the nipton trading post - this record jackpot has given them something else bigger than that. armed and potentially dangerous man...comes to an let's go to the fox 5s cyndi lundeberg joins us now that the custody. police tell me they have the person in custody... a friend identifies him as ricardo cesar martinez... let's show you his facebok page... posted about a stand off with police... martinez does live on st george street... today's stand off began just after 1030..: they say they got was inside his home with a gun... and was suicidal. all neighbors in the nearby vicinity were asked to leave the

homes... while the stand off was going on. neighbors say they don't like this standoff situation so close to their home... this is just a bad neighborhood no place to raise your kids police say the stand off was resolved peacefully... and say the man that is now in custody was the only one inside the home. we have found a facebook that we believe is the person that was inside the home... we've reached out to police to see if they can confirm that... well give you the details about what they say coming up tonight at 530 reporting live fox 5 news local las vegas police tell us martinez could face multiple charges. neighbors who were evacuated in the area are now able to return home. a woman is dead - after police say she lost control of her car. the victim has been identified by the coroner as 37 year old stacey palmer. the highway patrol says she was driving east on the summerlin parkway - just after 12-30 this morning. she lost control near rampart - drove over the center median - and flipped over in the westbound lanes - before being thrown from the car. troopers say palmer was not wearing a

been a factor in the crash. no other vehicles were involved. it turns out a metro police officer accused of choking his girlfriend was arrested in 2011 for a separate, but similar incident. that's according to an arrest report for james burt. he's been with the department since 2005 but in 2011, an incident with similar circumstances led to his arrest. in this latest incident, his girlfriend of five months told police he wouldn't let her leave their home when their argument turned physical... and said he covered her nose and mouth with his hand. burt told police there was no physical violence, but afterward suggested they quote "just throw the hooks on and take me to jail." he has been relieved of duty without pay pending the results of the internal investigation. a vote tonight... on the future of solar power in nevada. coming up... the latest on the battle over keeping sustainable energy

for nevadans with rooftop solar panels. nv energy argues the move is needed because it's non- solar customers were subsidizing solar homes with higher rates... those opposed.. including the solar industry.. say the move will price solar out of reach for many homeowners and kill the industry in nevada. : you would think that with such an abundance of energy in the sky 365 days of the year we would use that to our advantage to help our economy and help our environment by contrast - the commissioner presiding over the case says solar companies should be concerned with other forces harming the rooftop solar business including stable retail electric rates and historically low natural gas prices. the alliance for solar choice has filed a petition for reconsideration. commission has 40 days to grant or deny and if the petition for reconsideration is denied they can take their motion

iran has released ten u-s navy sailors detained by the country's revolutionary guard. the sailors were traveling from kuwait to bah-rain. their boats were said to have drifted into iranian waters - after encountering mechanical problems. the revolutionary guard claims an apology was made for the sailors entering iranian waters. vice president joe biden, though, says there was nothing to apologize for. but now a video has surfaced of one of the sailors doing just that. "it was a mistake. that was out fault and we apologize for our mistake." secretary of state john kerry thanked iran for its cooperation - saying the islamic republic treated the sailors well. the incident comes as iran is close to complying with a nuclear deal struck with the u-s and five other

nevada attorney general adam laxalt says he's endorsing texas sen. ted cruz for president. the first-term republican announced his decision to conservative radio host heidi harris. laxalt hosted cruz and a handful of other candidates at his inaugural basque fry political gathering in august at a northern nevada ranch. the republican consultant who ran laxalt's underdog campaign in 2014 is leading cruz's nevada campaign - and one of laxalt's assistant attorneys general has also endorsed cruz. we are just over 10 months away from a very big day here in the valley.. october 19th .. the final presidential debate will take place at unlv. and today - the university and the l-v-c-v-a kicked off an effort to get the community excited and involved.. band playing the unlv marching band was just one of the guests at the rally.. which included the governor .. the university president .. cheerleaders .. other local leaders ... and even a political

at took place at the "rock rink" at downtown summerlin this afternoon. the class was led by professional figure skaters - the school district - and teachers of the visually impaired... using different techniques for guidance and balance. volunteers say it's a great opportunity for the kids. "it's possible that they wouldn't normally be able to do something like this. because parrents might be afraid to take them out. ot the kids themselves might have some fear. but they are out here with their peers. it's a great opportunity fo them. " c-c-s-d now has a different event reach month - where visually impaired students can come together - and take part in an activity. nevada announces a plan to get thousands of laptops - in the hands of middle school students. the state has finalized a deal with oregon computer manufacturer "c- t-l" to help implement the "nevada ready 21" program. it was authorized by the legislature. schools can apply for competitive grants that will be awarded in march. teachers and principals will get training this spring on how to use the computers as teaching tools, and students will receive a ctl
