after months of contentious debates, c-c-s-d teachers have agreed to a new contract with the school board. the agreement was reached at a town hall meeting last night. fox five's nick lagrange joins us live near clark and main with details of the new contract. nick? dave and maria -- that meeting was held here at city hall, last night. for months -- c-c- s-d teachers have demanded a restructured pay schedule, as well as greater benefits contributions. and last night, they officially got both. in december -- the "clark county education association" announced their support of a new two-year contract. thursday night -- the c-c-s-d board of trustees unanimously approved that aggrement. the new contract dictates a 2.25 percent increase to the pay schedule, and at least a 45-dollar

in healthcare contributions. all of this is being implemented retroactively, though the new salaries won't go into effect until march first. "it is a step in the right direction. it will certainly help. it's not going to solve our teacher shortage, but it will definitely, it will definitely help the teacher shortage." the c-c-s-d tweeted last night, the new contract 'addresses recruitment, retention, and professional development.' obviously, increased pay and benefits helps... ..but a more concrete action plan for addressing the teacher shortage remains to be seen. originally, c-c-s-d teachers sought 70 million dollars in increases. this is a far cry from that, but it is an improvement. one that came without arbitration. dave and maria? a town hall meeting was held last night to discuss whether the school district should break up into mini districts. clark county is the 5th largest school district in

gardner thinks thats a problem... so he presented a bill to split it up. some parents say they fear the precincts would actually hurt at risk schools and leave them behind. the town hall welcomed officials from all over the valley, as well as parents and teachers... as a part of a reorganization study they hope to have done by next year. a man is found dead in a driveway after a shooting outside a home. it happened last night just after 7 washington. police say 2 men drove up to the home and confronted another man. there was an argument and gunshots were fired, leaving a man in his 70s dead and another man in critical condition. the victim who is in critical condition was shot in the head. police say the men who drove to the home fired about 4 or 5 shots. there were several adults and children inside the home. metro says they were not hurt, but are being questioned. police do not believe this shooting was gang related. the woman accused of killing a young girl and attacking a

at the bellagio...pleads guilty. brenda stokes avoided the death penalty and will now spend the rest of her life in prison without the possibility of parole. she's also waived her right to appeal. stokes admitted to murdering 10- year old jade morris...and slashing a co- workers face with razor blades. jade's family says it is a huge win... and they're thankful they don't have to relive her death during a trial. brenda- theres days its all i think about especially in december. december is the worst time of year for me ever jade's grandfather says that no prison sentence can ever make it right. terence we still suffer today so much (sobs) and i just want her to know that she took away gods gift...

world stokes will formally be sentenced in march. a tribute on the marquee at caesars palace remains up this morning after a tragic loss for strip headliner celine dion. the singer's 73 year-old husband, rene angelil, has died after a long battle with cancer. he passed thursday morning after his third bout with the disease. the clark county coroner says angelil died under physician. outside dion's caesars palace show support. resume her residency at caesars palace on february 23-rd. it's going to be a out fight for the gop nomination another

(cruz) "on the issue of citizenship, donald, i'm not going to use your mother's birth against you." the only thing all the candidates agreed on last night was beating hillary clinton. the democratic candidates will meet again this weekend for a presidential debate-- sunday night. it will be held in charleston, south carolina. the shooting of a philadelphia police officer is being investigated as an act of terrorism.

this morning. environmental officials in new mexico are planning to take legal action over last year's toxic spill into the animas river. the spill happened in august when an e-p-a crew accidentally caused a leak at the gold king mine. the leak sent 3 million gallons of heavy metal filled waste-water into the river. state authorities say they plan to sue the e-p-a, the state of colorado, and the owners of the gold king and sunny-side mines. michigan's governor is asking president barack obama to issue an emergency and major disaster because of the governor rick snyder's office says it's asking for additional federal aid to help provide residents with clean drinking water. people living in the small town have been complaining about the high levels of lead in their water after the city switched its 20-14 to save

"unethical." and bernie sanders vowed that if he's elected president, he will cap them at 2-dollars instead of the average 4- dollars being charged. chipotle is closing its doors... but only for a few hours on one day next month. on february 8th, nearly 2-thousand chipotle locations will close so employees can attend a company-wide meeting. the move is aimed at rallying employees behind a new strategy focused on improving food safety. chipotle was tied to series of disease outbreaks, including e-coli, salmonella and norovirus. the centers for disease control says 53 people have been sickened in multiple states. fans in saint louis still outraged after the decision to return the team to los angeles. t-shirts and jerseys went into the fire pits as former fans vented their frustration. stands at . c-c-s-d teachers and the school board have finally reached an agreement. a new two-year contract is now in place. this comes after the board voted to ratify the proposed contract at a town hall meeting held last night.

a huge issue. at school sites, we are having the lack of leadership and just a lack of collaboration, in large part, because of low morale. i don't even think that raising salaries for teachers is going to be the only answer to getting teachers back." originally -- teachers demanded 70 million dollars in increases, to effectively address the teacher shortage. this new agreement doesn't approach that, though it is a marked improvement. all-in-all, c-c-s-d teachers say they'll take it. there's still work to be done. and this is a story that isn't going away soon. of course, we will continue to follow any further plans to address the teacher shortage. jason and monica bail was set for the officer accused of trying to choke his girlfriend. a judge set bail at 75-thousand dollars yesterday for officer james

attorney argued it should be lowered due to his occupation. "in thinking about this case and the occupation of the your client doesn't he get a benefit because of what he does, or does he get treated differently because of what he does and quite frankly he should be treated like every other defendant in this courtroom" officer burt was fired from the force a few years ago for a similar incident involving his ex wife. that previous domestic violence case was dismissed after an arbitration ruling. burt got his job back with metro after that. burt's next court date is february 5th. solar customers and employees aren't the only ones affected by the public utilities commission's state's solar the commission allowed a group of gaming companies to stop using n-v energy. but... it will cost them 126-point-6 million dollars. the p-u-c voted to allow m-g-m, las vegas, sands, and

and the school board have finally reached an agreement. a new two-year contract is now in place. this comes after the board voted to ratify the proposed contract at a town hall meeting held last night. fox five's nick lagrange has details of the new contract. jason and monica -- that meeting was held here at city hall, last night. this has been an ongoing argument for over six months, marked by teacher rallies and protests. but the two sides have avoided

new agreement is now official. in december -- the "clark county education association" announced their support of a new two-year contract. thursday night -- the c-c-s-d board of trustees unanimously approved that aggrement. the new contract dictates a 2.25 percent increase to the pay schedule, and at least a 45- dollar monthly increase in healthcare contributions. all of this is being implemented retroactively, though the new salaries won't go into effect until march first. right direction.... ...but do teachers the ongoing "i think that the teacher shortage is a huge issue. at school sites, we are having the lack of leadership and just a lack of collaboration, in large part, because of low morale. i don't even think that raising salaries for teachers is going to be the only answer to getting teachers back." originally -- teachers demanded 70 million dollars

"in thinking about this case and the occupation of the your client doesn't he get a benefit because of what he does, or does he get treated differently because of what he does and quite frankly he should be treated like every other defendant in this courtroom" officer burt was fired from the force a few years ago for a similar incident involving his ex wife. that previous domestic violence case was dismissed

arbitration ruling. burt got his job back with metro after that. burt's next court date is february 5th. solar customers and employees aren't the only ones affected by the public utilities commission's changes to our state's solar industry. the commission allowed a group of gaming companies to stop using n-v energy. but... it will cost them 126-point-6 million dollars. the p-u-c voted to allow m-g-m, las vegas sands and wynn to split that fee if they part ways. former republican governor bob list serves as chairman of the nevada coalition to protect rate payers. he says a fee is expected... but this rate is unrealistic. " they have such a monopoly. the statute allows them to leave the monopoly but the public utilities commission has virtually made it impossible for them to do that. another video coming out of chicago of a police involved shooting. surveillance video shows a white police officer shooting a black 17 year old carjacking suspect. a judge in chicago ordered the video to be released after the family of cedrick chatman fought for months to get it out. the officer says he fired after seeing chatman turn toward police with a dark object in his hand. he thought it was a gun but later authorities found out it was an iphone box. the shooting happened back in 20-13. the family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit. fallout from the death of freddie gray-- is leading to big changes at the baltimore police department. the city is spending 200 thousand dollars to make its police vans safer when transporting suspects. gray suffered a severe spinal injury while being transported in the back of a police van last april. the vans will also be equipped with video camera. the armed group of protesters that took over a wildlife refuge in oregon will share
