loose in mccarran airport to sniff out the truth. the spokeswoman for mccarran confirms a monkey on board a frontier airlines flight. the plane was coming from columbus, ohio. the plane landed safely and metro was at the as a precaution. onboard the flight was using the monkey as service animal. the passenger had all the paperwork for the monkey. the monkey was never smuggled. state leaders approved more money to defend the controversial school choice program. the nevada board of examiniers will send 125-thousand dollars to cover legal costs for the education savings account.. which is in addition to the 420-thousand bucks the state has already paid to an outside firm. last month.. justices heard arguments on whether to lift a hold on the voucher-style education program.. which allows parents to use public education money for private school tuition. a pair of lawsuits are fighting the school choice program.. calling it unconstitutional. if you're planning to spend the day lounging around and getting absolutely nothing done -- you get a pass today. it's national lazy day... who better to report on this

is a cop around. people will do what they want to do. pedestrians will cross where they want to, no matter where the crosswalks are. also, we have extremely long blocks with crosswalks at either end. they cross where they get off of the bus and that may be in the middle of the block. and from ricardo. i drive to work every day using the on-ramps on the 215 and eastern. the road conditions there are so bad, that it's shaking parts off people's cars. mine included! the on-ramps are so bad you have to go super slow to get on and off the 215 eastbound and westbound. and finally from alina on some nhp officers who stepped up big time. i got a flat tire on the i-15. within 10 minutes nhp pulled up behind me, told me to stay in my car and they would take care of everything. officers tanner & smaker changed my flat and had me on the road again. these two awesome officers came to my rescue. thank you! send us your rants to the rant at fox5vegas.com or call at 702-436- 8285

silver state... will soon be a thing of the past.... fox5's alyssa deitsch joins us from laughlin by one of the signs slated to come down. for the past 25 years... these signs have welcomed you home.. or welcomed visitors... on many highway entrances into nevada. but there is a way for you to remember the signs.... as the nevada dept of transportation is raffling off the old signs for you to win!

miner thorughout the state... the old signs are being replaced later this year. the sign replacement was already put into the tourism department's budget... and they alogn with ndot and the education department created a fun way for high school graphic artists state-wide to compete to have their designs greet drivers into the state. here is a picture of the four winners... picked this spring from the 12 finalists! there is one winner for each region of nevada. they were brought to reno to work with ndot engineers and designers to work on the final versions that will be displayed on all the welcome signs around the state. here's a closer look at their "rough draft" designs... starting with region one northwest... each design features the state brand "a world within, a state apart" the northwest winning design has a cowboy with our beautiful scenery featured in the background. region two... the northeast... features our state animal the big horn sheep with our orange- glowing sunsets. the third region... southwest... which includes las vegas... another cowboy makes an appearance along with the joshua trees we see driving in from the southwest. and the southeast region also shows off our beautiful scenery against the sun... with our state slogan "battle born" on the sign. the final versions

morning.. a memorial march in ferguson, missouri turned violent tuesday night.. it was the second the shooting death of an unarmed, black teen...18-year old michael brown. brown was killed by a white police officer...darren wilson...in 2014. witnesses say a speeding car hit a protester last night as they were walking in the middle of the street several people chased the car - some apparently firing shots. a city spokesman said the driver is cooperating with police and didn't mean to hit the demonstrator.. who suffered severe injuries. 4 people were arrested.
