school is in!!! which means a lot of kids will be taking that big yellow bus to-and-fro. we are live at a local bus yard to remind you about the rules-of-the-road. the s-o-s drive was a success!! we're gonna show you how much your contributions touched the lives of thousands of students here in clark county. good morning i'm jason feinberg and i'm monica jackson welcome to fox5

kids in the clark county school district are heading back to the classrooms today.. we'll be covering the first day festivities all morning long.. but first -- les krifaton joins us with a quick look at the fox 5 weather 24-7 forecast.

and about in traffic today -- remember you'll be sharing the road with buses and children. it's the first day of school in clark county and police will be looking for people who break traffic laws. fox 5's mike doria joins us live near wilhelm elementary school in north las vegas. the speed limit in a school zone is either -- 15 miles per hour or 25

depending on your location. and while some zones are enforced only when children are present -- others are enforced while school is in session for day. first... u-turns are not allowed in school zones. a lot of parents like to do this after dropping not allowed in school zones. a lot of parents like to do this after dropping their child off at the curb. but it's illegal and increases the chance for a crash. also... no passing in school zones. if you see a car driving slow... you cannot pass it. that's because the car might be slowing down for a child that you don't see. drivers should always stop for school buses

school buses on the roads this morning. fox5's alyssa deitsch was at the c-c-s-d bus yard in north las vegas to tell us how the school district transports over a hundred thousand students. yeah... can you believe these buses transport 120-thousand students every single day?! and on time?? i should have taken the bus... i remember by the time i got to high school my first period teacher would announce me as a new stuident every day i made it on time. but look at all these buses ready to head out all over the valley... this is the cheyenne bus yard in north las vegas. and in just a few hours-- all these buses will be out on the roads with you... so prepare yourself for a longer commute... because there are more rules when it comes to school buses. if you see one

flashing and the stop sign is out ... you must stop no matter which direction you're going on a two- lane roadway. or if you are on a multiple lane roadway going the same way as the bus. the only time you don't have to stop is if there's a median on the road and you're going the opposite direction as the bus. . a local autism worked all

hundreds of school supplies destroyed in a warehouse fire. "i cant even process everything that was lost, i had my office there for years my children grew up in that wearhouse with me they spent summers in there with me, and it's gone in a heartbeat." the people's autism foundation held 2 supply drives.. with the goal to fill up an entire trailer with supplies for local special needs students.. and while the drive is over.. if you still want to donate.. they're taking donations online.. we have their information on our website.. just head to fox five vegas dot com. our annual "supply our students" drive was a success! "we're still counting all the numbers but in the course of the week since the fox5 take care to five event we've been able to assemble over 1,000 backpacks and we've been able to put them together and giving them out through the course of the week, today we're giving out another 500 out to kids that are coming out here." fox 5 partnered

and henderson hospital for the s-o-s drive.. and the salvation army made sure local students were ready for class. volunteers collected pencils.. notebooks.. and crayons to stuff into backpacks make sure kids get a great start to the new school year. a pharmacuetical company is quickly responding to customers see what the makers of the epipen are planning to do for people who cant afford the emergency allergy medication.

company --mylan-- says it will make a generic version of its epipen available...as customers continue to complain about the price hike of the popular injectable allergy medicine. the company says the generic version of the epipen will cost about 300-bucks for a 2-pack... and they expect to launch the within the next several weeks. mylan says they will continue to market and distribute the branded epipen...which currently costs 600-dollars for a 2- pack. and...they will also continue to offer coupons, as well as stick to their plan to expand their patient-assistance program. the m-t-v video music awards took over madison square garden

-- colin kaepernick -- made his pre- season debut friday against the green bay packers.. but that turned out to be the 2-nd biggest story for the 28- year-old.. kaepernick chose to sit during the national anthem -- a decision he says was made in order to take a stand for civil rights and draw attention to racial issues in america. reporters there noted he also sat during the anthem for the first 2 preseason games when he wasn't in uniform. lots of fans clearly weren't happy about the move.. but some of kaepernick's teammates seemed to have his back.. kaepernick says he plans to continue to sit during the national anthem until he sees change in the united states.

nature and feeling of the rolling hills of western connecticut.. but it also has the latest state-of- the-art security.. including bullet proof glass.. electronic doors and door locks.. cameras, both visible and not visible.. and panic buttons strategically located throughout the building. back at home.. students at u-n- l-v will be hitting the books too.. and campus will be crowded. for the 5-th straight year in a row.. u-n-l-v is welcoming its largest class ever. about 4-thousand freshman are heading onto campus.. packing the residence halls to capacity. the class of graduate students is growing as well... with enrollment up about 4- percent.

living on campus but about 90- percent of u-n-l-v students commute.. which will cause a lot of traffic headaches today. u-n-l-v is working towards a solution.. building a brand new garage across from the in-n-out on maryland.. but students this year should still get to campus early.. because the new garage won't be ready until may 20-17. if you're planning on parking on campus.. make sure you buy a new parking pass. semester and yearly passes are now available online.. with prices for motorcycles starting at just 36-dollars for a fall pass.. and 56-dollars for cars. and speaking of u-n-l-v.. rebel fans get ready! football is back this week.. under new head coach tony sanchez! the rebels take on jackson state at sam boyd statium on thursday.. kick off is 7 p-m. this will be the only chance to catch the team at
