how does a murder suspect escape from a police station? tonight -- everybody is asking that question -- especially the murder victim's family. we'll show you what they have to say. a deadly shooting from earlier this week... has been ruled... an accident. coming up -- the steps the police went through to make that ruling. and -- a big earthquake shakes up a big portion of the united states. we'll show you how much damage it caused... and are saying about how big it really was. this is fox5 news at 10. local. las vegas. good evening and thank you for joining us. i'm adam herbets. a suspected killer is on the run tonight... after he escaped from a police station. alonso perez was arrested just hours before he walked away from the north las vegas police department yesterday. officers say -- he shot and killed 31-year-old muhamad robinson outside of a mcdonalds near

fox5's abby theodros joins us live with the latest... she spoke to robinson's mom who is in disbelief. this picture of perez is making the rounds as police desperately search for him. a man they say is dangers. today we were there when robinson's mom saw this picture for the first time... (hands phone/picture to kn) katra nestor: so this is the guy (picture of alonso perez) katra nestor: wow katra nestor is suspected killer for the first time. katra nestor: his character doesn't show much. nestor is talking about alonso perez. he was arrested yesterday in connection with the shooting death of her son 31 year old son muhamad robinson. hours later...he broke free from his handcuffs and took off from the north las vegas detective bureau and stole a truck from a business five miles away. while police search - nestor hopes he doesnt hurt someone else. katra nestor: he is running scared.

anyone with information on the whereabouts of perez was urged las vegas police department that number is on our website. or crime stoppers at 702- 385-5555. this isn't the first time this year somebody has gotten away from the police. back in april.... a suspect escaped from metro's custody... and was on the run for more than two weeks. officers had arrested ivan mayoral for stealing a car on april 8th. very similar to this recent case -- during booking -- he was able to free himself from handcuffs, walk

and leave the building without anyone noticing. mayoral was eventually caught on april 24th after a long standoff with police. one person has been injured in an earthquake that hit more than half a dozen states in the middle of our country. scientists say the epicenter was in pawnee, oklahoma... but people in seven states could feel it. the earthquake was a magnituide 5.6... and six buildings are now uninhabitable because of the damage. one homeowner suffered minor injuries, but he is already out of the hospital. "(mayor brad sewell, pawnee, ok): "our emergency manager is out looking at things, we have our fire department here, we've got a lot of assistance from emergency crews from surrounding towns, we are very fortunate to have good relationships with them, and they're just doing their best to ascertain what damage we've got." the earthquake was also felt in kansas, iowa, texas, missouri, nebraska and arkansas. gusty winds and lower temperatures are making their way into the valley. meteorologist

at the weather. sam? after a high temperature of 99 degrees on saturday, temperatures will continue to fall through the rest of your labor day weekend. skies will stay mostly clear overnight with temperatures falling into the mid to low 70s sunday morning. look for wall-to-wall sunshine across the las vegas valley on sunday. high temperatures will be in the mid to low 90s. winds will once again pick up during the afternoon; gusts will be in the 30 to 40 mph range. skies will stay sunny on labor day with winds easing up, high temperatures hold in the low 90s. we'll keept upper 90s through most of next week with some more clouds rolling in thursday and friday.

from last week has been ruled as an accident... not murder. the clark county coroner identified the victim as 19- year-old javante stockard. police say he was found near lake mead and m-lk with a gunshot wound. and that it was just one of two deadly shootings on thursday night. he was taken to u-m-c where he later died. police say... they interviewed the person who fired the gun before determining that it was an accident. a woman is facing fraud charges after police say she pretended to collect money for a fallen firefighter. police say krystle holmes, in vermont, was asking for cash donations for the family of justin beebe.... a vermont fire fighter who died last month. beebe was battling a wildfire in the great basin national park here in nevada. now 31-year-old holmes is facing seven counts of fraud and one count of providing false information to a police officer. she is scheduled to appear in court next month.

rescued by a good samaritan from a sinking boat near the coronado islands in mexico today. the u-s coast guard in san diego heard the call for help around 5 a-m that the vessel crashed into rocks and the crew started deploying life rafts. coast guard officials transmitted an urgent call that was heard by a commercial fishing vessel. the "sweet marie" diverted their path to save the 21 passengers and five crew members and take them back to u-s shores. marijuana growers are looking to be more energy efficient. growing weed can be expensive... n-v energy says power used on one marijuana farm is the same as powering about three thousand homes. right now state law requires growers to keep plants locked up and out of sight from the outside. the nevada medical marijuana associations says energy costs as high as 70 thousand dollars were a big wake up call to push for greater efficiency. president obama is praising harry reid's place in history as the senator gets closer to retirement.

labor day weekend plans because of a big storm on the east coast. as mary maloney reports -- the timing couldn't be much worse... as florida still recovers from tropical storm hermine. downed trees... (nats of chainsaw) damaged roads.... (nats of truck backing up) and flooded homes (homeowner) we had to empty two toy bins and a garbage can in the kitchen probobly 7. 8 times during the night. we probaby had about three inches of water on the floor because we couldn't do it fast enough. much of florida's panhandle continues to recover from the destruction hurricane hermine left behind. (gov rick scot/ (r) florida) "more than 300,000 floridians experienced power loss (butted to) so the top concern of residents i've met with is regaining power to their homes and businesses so they can begin the recovery process."

hurricane... hermine isn't done yet. (nats waves) rough seas, high winds, and strong storm surge threaten the coastline from south carolina to as far north as connecticut. some computer models show the storm could stall offshore, gain strength, then slam back into the eastern seaboard. (dr. rick knabb, meteorologist & director, national hurricane center not only will the immediate coastline be a dangerous place in the middle atlantic and the northeast this weekend but some distance inland because of the size of this system. thousands of homes in the carolinas have already lost power. further north city officials are taking every precaution. tied for 4th most in school history.... the football team is looking for more success than years past.. but they're not alone... u-n-l-v's student section... the rebellion are also on the rise.... thursday night before the game the rebllion held the first.. of what they hope is many student run tailgates.... everyone can see and hear the cheering during the game.... but for the rebellion it's the pre-game festivities where they want to set u-n-l-v apart from the rest.... students have started a gofundme page to help pay for t- shirts and supplies.. the goal....to garner more support for all the athletic teams.. and create a student section that strike fear in opponents... for a swim... but the man in charge of the pool... wasn't as inviting as they hoped. listen to this "hey! i thought i told you guys to get out of here. now go! come on. get out of here!" apparently momma bear and her cubs found a pretty nice spot to cool off-- at the pool owner's expense. they took their eviction well... they got up... and just found another pool... plus they even grabbed a bite to eat from a dumpster. this time... they were caught by a brave beagle. the dog ran them off-- back to their home in the forest.
