acres... and is only 25-percent contained. the right two lanes on northbound i-15 are closed at kenwood, as 185 firefighters work to put out the blaze. a man accused of killing a father of four is still on the run.. after he broke free from his handcuffs.. escaping north las vegas police. as we continue to follow this story.. we spoke with the victim's mother.. who says she's still processing what happened. (hands phone/picture to kn) katra nestor: so this is the guy (picture of alonso perez) katra nestor: wow katra nestor is looking at her son's suspected killer for the first time. katra nestor: his character doesn't show much. nestor is talking about alonso perez. he was arrested in connection with the shooting death of her son 31 year old son muhamad robinson. hours later...he broke free from his handcuffs and took off from the north las vegas detective bureau and stole a truck from a business . while police search - nestor hopes he doesnt

crimestoppers. that number is 702-385-55-55. 27 years ago.. jacob wetterling's name was all over the headlines.. missing boy.. never found. that is.. until now. jacob's family can finally lay their son to rest.. after a suspect in his abduction led the f-b-i to his body. jacob's disappearance changed his home town of st joseph, minnesota.. and cities across the nation. parents say october 22, 19-89 was the day small town innocence (sandy stocker, former resident): "life changed after that very much." butt to (sandy stocker, former resident ): "they had to stay in the house and we went with them whenever they went to the playgrounds or to their friends and made sure that's where they were." jacob's abduction was actually what led to sex offender registries. there is no word on the suspect that tipped off the f-b-i.. and investigators are not saying if anyone has been charged. since being released from jail..

brock turner's house.. holding up signs that warn of a rapist in the home. it's only been two days... but turner's parents say they've had enough. they have reportedly contacted the police.. asking for help.. since they fear for their son's safety. turner's father received backlash during the trial.. after saying his son shouldn't spend years in jail.. for just quote-- "20 minutes of action". a school janitor has been arrested.. after allegedly poisoning his boss with floor cleaner. investigators.. russell smith was mad.. because his co- worker got a promotion instead of him.. so.. he poured the chemical into her drink.. causing her to feel a burning sensation.. and shortness of breath. "i mean we're going to have disagreements with our coworkers, but it should it never get to the point where you should try to poison your coworker." it didn't take long for investigators to pin the crime on smith. apparently.. his fingerprints were found on the chemical bottle.. and on his boss's cup. investigators also say his alibi just didn't add up. smith reportedly

polygraph test and requested a lawyer. two young children are lucky to be alive this morning... after getting behind the wheel.. off to see their grandma... because apparently... these these kids couldn't wait for their parents to drive. but the two didn't get far.. the 3 and 5 year olds only drove one street away.. before crashing into another car. the other driver was shocked.. "i hold the kids both in their hands and i said, 'where's your mom?' 'sleeping. i want to go to my grandma's house." there is still debris from the crash on the road.. but thankfully... the kids were unharmed. the other driver had some scrapes and bruises.. but says they are mostly happy the kids were able to get back home. no word if their parents will be charged for child endangerment. while sailing the sea.. headed for a fishing trip.. 26 people were suddenly stranded.. after their boat crashed into some rocks. luckily.. a nearby boater was able to save the day. the sweet marie was enjoying the water.. but made a quick detour to pick up

crew. passengers on the boat say they are very thankful. if they hadn't responded we would be looking at a very different situation butt to "were here walking get to do this another day so that's a good thing" one person suffered a minor back injury.. but everyone else was okay. the coast guard is still investigating what led to the crash. there is video of a crew member given a breathalyzer test.. then led away in handcuffs.. but the coast guard hasn't confirmed anything at this time. in world news.. mother teresa is officially a saint... pope francis held a no mass at the vatican for the catholic nun. mother teresa was best known for her work with the poor in india. she died in 1997... but has since been attributed with two miracles.. which qualifies her for sainthood. tens of thousands of people flocked to st peter's square for the ceremony. "i have been cured by mother teresa's blessings, not because of doctors treatments." monica besra is said to be mother teresa's first miracle.

says mother teresa healed her of a tumor. though some doctors are skeptical.. saying besra may just have had a cyst.. those naturally go away. mother teresa's second attributed miracle involved healing a brazilian man with several brain tumors. the g-20 summit got off to a tense start.. after chinese officials reportedly confronted u-s security at least three times. according to reporters on scene.. just minutes before obama landed for the two-day conference.. chinese delegation started yelling at white house staff. despit chaotic start.. leaders of 19 countries got straight to work.. discussing world economy.. and other global issues. to the extent that there are children and women and innocent civilians who can get food and medical supplies butt to that's worth the effort." obama was referencing syria's cease-fire deal with russia. both countries are pushing toward peace.. but obama says... there is still a lot of work to be done.

news.. valley marijuana growers are looking to be more energy efficient. apparently growing weed can be expensive... n-v energy says power used on one marijuana farm is the same as powering about three-thousand homes. right now state law requires growers to keep plants locked up and out of sight from the outside. so the nevada medical marijuana association is pushing for change.. to make their business model more efficient. okay-- you have to check this out. a university bet with his class.. that if a kid in the balcony could throw a paper ball in the trash can.. the whole class would get 100- percent on the next quiz. cheers can you believe that? i can barely make if from a few feet away. i bet the teacher is regretting the bet now.. although the students still need to study. that quiz is only

birthday.. his community came together.. honoring his life... by releasing five- thousand balloons into the air. lane was killed by an alligator at a disney world resort earlier this year. his parents.. devastated by the loss.. have set up a foundation in his honor. typically.. a wedding day is supposed to rock the bride and groom's world.. that was taken quite literally at a ceremony in oklahoma. as an intense earthquake hit while the couple was prepping for the big day. so we were just upstairs and it all started shaking and we were just like 'oh dear, what's happening', there was an earthquake and then we were like 'we'll take it as good luck for today'. a magnitude 5- point-6 earth quake rocked the area.. it was centered in pawnee... but was felt across 6 states. the couple still went on with the ceremony as planned.. just a little later in the day. cc will continue

along town center drive is expect to wrap up before thanksgiving............. .next we move down to far southwest valley to get a status update on two new traffic lights currently under construction. the ndot project calls for new traffic signals along blue diamond road @ el capitan and fort apache. additional upgrades to both intersections include new pedestrian crosswalks, paving and sidewalk upgrades. the new traffic lights along blue diamond were warranted after a rash of pedestrian crashes explosive new growth in the mountain's edge community. the 2.4 million dollar project is expected to wrap up by the end of october................fin ally we head to henderson to get an update on the volunteer blvd widening project. the project runs from las vegas blvd to airport executive drive. according to the city of henderson, the project calls for the widening of volunteer blvd from a two lane road to a four lane boulevard, the addition of bike lanes, traffic signal improvements at bruner avenue, and

vehicle. 2016 polaris r-z-r turbo models are being recalled.. due to a fire hazard. about 13- thousand people are affected. apparently.. 19 vehicles have already caught fire.. injuring at least six people.. including a child. one fire destroyed 15- acres of a utah forest. according to officials.. the engine overheats.. and the drain tube can loosen.. which causes the fire hazard. about 36-hundred bicycle helmets are being recalled.. for not meeting federal safety standards. the sahn classic helmets were sold from may 20-13 though december of last year.. and pose a risk for head injury. so far.. no one has been hurt... but if you have one of these helmets.. you are asked to contact sahn right away. all you rock climbers out there.. you'll want to check your harnesses. as "all wild country syncro"

the womens soccer team jumping out to their best start in school history.... this week it's the rebels volleyball team looking to make that same push.... u-n-l-v came in a perfect 5-0... now just two wins shy of matching their best start in school history.... unlv hosted cal state northridge.. and although there was a lot of back-and-forth.. the rebels came out on top.. beating the visiting team three-zip. the rebel football team is looking for more success than in years past.. but they're not alone... u-n-l-v's student section... the rebellion is also on the rise.... thursday night before the game... the rebellion held the first of what they hope is many student run tailgates. everyone can see and hear them cheering during the game.... but for the rebellion... it's the pre-game festivities where they want to set u-n-l-v apart from the rest.... students have started a

season "dog daze." hundreds of dogs and their owners showed up at desert breeze aquatic center.. taking a dip in the pool.. splashing around before the pool closes for the rest of the year. there was also a funniest pet competition.. won by a dog that played dead when its owner pretended to shoot it. this super happy dog serves up more than just smiles.. she has a very special task.. as connecticut's first ever pup to work in a rape crisis center. lily is sweet and calm.. and helps victims relax after their trauma. the 7-year-old likes to give sloppy wet kisses.. and encourage people as much as she can. lily's owner says the big pup loves to be held.. and is perfect for those in need. here in the valley.. we love mojave max. but.. desert tortoises like him are endangered.. and it's our job to protect them. so.. biologist "time shields" has developed a game to help save the tortoises from extinction.. and he wants

worlds of adventure... and it's one- point-five million square feet of excitement. and is also the world's biggest indoor theme park. costing over one-billion dollars and taking three years to build... the privately owned park is part of a plan to diversify the city's economy by boosting tourism. lennard otto, ceo, img worlds of adventure: "we wanted this to be an icon for dubai itself and an icon for the region." the park opened to the public last week. it features over 21 attractions like the enormous el roller coaster, 28 restaurants, and 25 retail stores. park officials are hoping for 12,000 customers a day the first year, with possibly 18 million visitors by 2020. while some kids play video games... one chicago kid plays business c- e-o. just 12-years old, jayden hammond is already an entrepreneur. with help from his family, he started his own gourmet vegan popcorn company, called "j-rocks popcorn".

tropical storm hermine has rocked eastern coastal cities.. causing sea levels to rise this has caused some floodings.. everyone is being told to stay off the beach.. but some tourists just can't stay away. police are now patrolling high- tide areas... keeping people out of the water. many tourists came down to the beach.. with weekend plans for the labor day holiday. but.. officials are telling them to stay safe and on shore. cc will continue

dog to become depressed.. vets say this is a serious problem.. and just like with people.. it needs to be treated with medication. there are some medications that can be very effective, very safe but i would recommend only using them under the direct supervision of your veterinarian. if you don't want to use medication.. doctors say teaching your pet to be independent is a good first step. so.. rather than always playing with them.. get them toys that they can use by themselves. also.. give them lots of love.. hugs... and walks when you are home. how cute is this.. its known dogs are super loyal... but this pup should probably win an award. after maya's owner was rushed into surgery... she has sat outside the hospital for six days now.. and she won't leave until her owner comes home. she's become a star at the hospital.. greeting people as they come in and out. but she refuses to leave her post.. what a patient little pup. after receiving national attention.. drug maker

alcohol education meetings. the former nickelodeon star was arrested for dui back in january and in 2009. a school janitor has been arrested.. after allegedly poisoning his boss with floor cleaner. according to investigators.. russell smith was mad.. because his co- worker got a promotion instead of him.. so.. he poured the chemical into her drink.. causing her to feel a burning sensation.. and shortness of breath. "i mean we're going to have disagreements with our coworkers, but it should it never get to t where you should try to poison your coworker." it didn't take long for investigators to pin the crime on smith. apparently.. his fingerprints were found on the chemical bottle.. and on his boss's cup. investigators also say his alibi just didn't add up. smith reportedly refused a polygraph test and requested a lawyer. a protest turned violent this weekend.. as native americans clash with workers attempting to break ground on an oil pipeline. four security guards.. and two guard dogs..

protesters. the activists were sprayed with pepper spray.. and six people-- including a young child-- were bitten by the dogs. protesters say the construction of the four-state, three-point-eight billion dollar oil pipeline destroyed native american burial and cultural sites. a judge is deciding whether to halt the pipeline... and is expected to give a decision by september ninth. two young children are lucky to be alive this morning... after getting behind the wheel.. off to see their grandma... because these kids couldn't wait for their parents to drive. but the two didn't get far.. the 3 and 5 year olds only drove one street away.. before crashing into another car. the other driver was shocked.. "i hold the kids both in their hands and i said, 'where's your mom?' 'sleeping. i want to go to my grandma's house." there is still debris from the crash on the road.. but thankfully... the kids were unharmed. the other driver had some scrapes and bruises.. but says they are mostly happy the kids were able to get back home.
