breaking overnight... an apartment fire forces dozens of people from their homes. fox5's alyssa deitsch joins us live from the scene on las vegas boulev and serene... alyssa this isn't the first fire at that complex.. we're at an apartment complex called "the paradise spas"... a complex a couple neighbors are describing to us as a tinder box. the fire broke out around 10:15 last night.... displacing 20 people from their homes. we don't know what caused this fire yet... but we spoke with two neighbors... who smelled the

outside during all the commotion. they've lived here for three years... and this is not the first time they've seen units in the complex go up in flames. "these places go up like match sticks all the time. that one just one up was a five alarmer... this one is getting close to it." according to public records... the townhomes were built in 1966. we don't know how recently they've been renovated, if at all. but for the 20 people out of their homes this morning... the red cross will be assisting them. finding them a safe place to sleep... food... medicine... clothing.... everything they need that might have been destroyed in the fire.

busting out of jail... murder suspect alonso perez has been found. an f-b-i task force recaptured perez around 8 last night near charleston and pecos.. just 8 miles from the north las vegas police station that he escaped from... he was found inside a residence.. and made his way back into custody without incident. the family of the man perez is suspect of killing have said they're happy and relieved that perez has been found.. police are investigating a double murder. after finding two men with gunshot wounds outside a northwest valley apartment.

it makes me nervous because i live in this area according to police.. the two men were found outside near torrey pines and smoke ranch.. they were taken to the hospital. but it was too late. its not clear how many times each man was shot. police say there are multiple suspects who are still on the loose. neighbors in a north valley community are locking their car doors and checking them twice. after 5 breaks ins in just the past few months. the proof is in th video. just this past weekend.. jennifer erbe's neighbor caught the thieves breaking into her cars.. and she says this isn't the first time. people are coming through popping our door handles, trying to see if their are access in our vehicles, rummaging through and taking things out of cars thruoghout the neighborhood." some of the neighbors filed a police report back in june.. jennifer says she hasn't received a response.. now she is working to form a neighborhood watch..

after decades of disagreements ... boulder station workers have voted to unionize with the culinary union. 530 employees voted through a secret ballot election over the weekend. 67-percent of them agreed to be represented by the culinary works union. boulder station would be the first of the station casino properties in nevada to be a part of the local 226 union. more than 570 boulder station employees would be represented by the unions. geoconda arguello-kline, secretary-treasurer for the culinary union - " they say look we're not going to have any objections, were going to move to the next step, and the next step for us is the negotiation." geoconda - union- " if people do not have the contract that is when people start to demonstrate again" station casinos released a statement on the vote .. you can read it on your screen... station casino's president richard haskins calls it disappointing... but they will bargain in good faith. looking good-- and helping those in need at the same

and is now attending unlv as a business major. the trial for the armed ranchers who overtook an oregon wildlife refuge is getting underway this morning with jury selection. bundy brothers-- ammon and ryan and six others took part in the armed standoff. the defendants claim they used their first amendment rights to engage in a peaceful protest and that those with guns were exercising their second amendment rights. a california man has admitted to murdering an l-a-x t-s-a en almost three years after the shooting. paul anthony ciancia plead guilty to eleven federal charges. including first degree murder. back in november 20-13.. ciancia shot four people in the los angeles airport.. saying he was mad at t-s-a for pretending every american is a terrorist. the 26-year-old will spend the rest of his life in prison a deadly holiday weekend in chicago.. left the city with its 500-th homicide..

two decades. more than 90 people were murdered in august alone.. putting the windy city on track to hit 600 homicides this year. police blame a heavy gang violence.. and a high number of illegal guns.. this year alone.. c-p-d as recovered the equivalent of one illegal handgun every hour. well the simple honest truth to that is you can't police something like that. you can't. there is no way we can predict those type of incidences. higher murder rates per capita.. with st. louis seeing the biggest problem.. police in chicago say they are working on their issues... but.. they face challenges... because the trust level between officers and the community is extremely tense. crews are fighting zika from the air. and on the ground but apparently.. not in congress. after a long awaited funding

after being sanctioned by the department of education. according to an email sent to the students.. the d-o-e wouldn't let itt tech accept students who use federal aid.. after accreditors said the for-profit school wasn't complying with educational standards. now students in the valley are left with high loans.. and without diplomas.
