police? alyssa right now they really don't know much...they're in the very beginning of this investigation. but what we do know is that someone shot and killed a 19-year- old male outside near the corner of blemont street and wright street in north las vegas. police have not released his identity yet. police say it happened right here on the street in front of this red truck. they got the call around 12:40 this morning... and when police arrived... they found a 19-year- old male suffering from a gunshot wound. he was taken to umc... whe later died. the whole block was taped off for hours as police continued to investigate this morning. at this point... they're looking for a small blue pickup truck that they think was involved... or may know something about who was involved. they don't have any other descripion of a suspect at this time. " it's really early in the investigation right now. detectives are still conducting interviews with witnesses and family members and they're trying to get to the bottom of what occured prior to this shooting. "

for those commuting early this morning, the spaghetti bowl interchange is still closed. this is a live look right now at construction in the area. the ramp from southbound 95 to southbound i-15-- remains closed until 10 a-m today. and we've mapped out the affected area to show you the detours and closures. the blue route is the detour around the closed ramp. n-dot urges drivers to either use alternate routes... follow the detour signs... or avoid the area

police have a man in custody after he barricaded himself inside his apartment--- and held a woman hostage. prompting swat teams to respond to what police say started out as a family disturbance call... at the tamarus park apartments near flamingo around one yesterday afternoon. they say the man... who was armed... eventually came out of his home around three. thankfully, the woman was let out.. uninjured. an explosion rocked new york city last night... in in the chelsea district of manhattan. fox news' jackie ibanez has more on this developing story. a powerful explosion -- rocking lower manhattan saturday night -- injuring 29 people. the blast shattering windows and forcing the closure of several blocks. the explosion -- jolting a bustling neighborhood teeming with restaurants, bars and pedestrians and alarming the city on what had been a calm weekend evening. authorities are unsure the cause of the explosion and exploring various possibilities. new york city

releasing the man's name yet... but say he had three prior encounters with local law enforcement. the eight victims are all expected to survive. in more local news. it's been over a week since i-t-t tech shut down all 130 of its u-s campuses--- thousands of students are looking for a new place to learn. but some students say they have a reason to celebrate. fox 5's abby theodros talked with students who finished their credits... a week before the closures. im pretty sure it s right? not quite sure how to do it as long as its all uniform i dont think we'll have a problem. this group of graduates celebrated something they thought would never happen teresa rogers: i think we deserve it. we worked hard. i had to tolerate these same 8 people for the last 2 years (laughs) theyre members of itt techs last graduating class. and with the institute's abrupt closure this month - it's graduates were short changed too. mathew leroy, valedictorian:

toward safe driving. full throttle. okay off the peddle steer the other way...nice. the "driver's edge" program is happening this weekend at the las vegas motor speedway. participants get behind the wheel with professionals to learn about driver safety. they cover panic braking, changing lanes, and skid control. none of us are really taught how to drive, we're taught how to pass a test. the whole idea is going to give young drivers a wake up call and show them what can happen in emergency situations so their better prepared out there in the real world. metro is calling on the public's help to find a robbery suspect. police say this man robbed two valley businesess friday. the first robbery happened at a business near east sunset and sandhill. and the second happened near spring mountain and the i-15. police also think he's responsible for another robbery on south rainbow boulevard earlier this month. the suspect is described as a hispanic man... 40-45 years old.... around 6 feet tall... and 220 pounds. wearing a black ball cap... blue button down shirt.... purple tie... black slacks... and sunglasses. if you have any information--- call metro police... or leave an anonymous tip for crimestoppers at 702-385-55-55. a las vegas man is getting life behind bars... for stabbing his fiance to death. a jury sentenced 53-year-old david frostick... to life with the possibility of parole for first degree murder.

an arizona mom takes things to the extreme... and calls the cops on her three year old daughter. the mom says the child refuses to keep her seat belt on during car rides.. and after trying many times to help her understand.. she said she had no choice but to call the police. "if we're are not buckled, our body is going to hit something" (michelle fortin, mother): "i guess it was an extreme choice on my part to call police, but i knew she was gonna remember it and i knew by hearing from a police officer, who is a person of authority that my kids respect, i knew tat was gonna drive the point home better." well it looks like mom's tactic has worked she says her daughter now promises to keep her seat belt on.

in louisiana starts a new anti- bullying initiative... and it's gaining a lot of attention on a national level. the nine-year old -had to write a poem in class about living in a bully-free world... so, he decided to take it a step further, by using his savings to buy hundreds of bracelets. each one carrying a powerful message against bullying. now other schools want to participate. martin says: "the top says live bully free and the bottom says #scpps which stands for st. charles parish public schools." martin says: "that's what bracelets are for because if you've bullied somebody before and you go to do it again, just look at your wrist and you have the band." martin says he hopes his message gets to the family of jason grubb in west virginia. grubb --who is also nine... took his own life on september 10th.. after weeks of bullying at his school. being kind to your fellow peers seems to be the theme with another amazing youngster. a refreshing

from minnesota..decided to ask for toiletries instead of gifts for his birthday this year.. so he could help the homeless. l. loerzel says: "i know those people are in need so i wanna help them out to survive a better life and have as long of a life as i can" the second grader asked for toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap and shampoo. friends spent his birthday packing them up to be donated to an area homeless shelter. as a gift for his selfless gesture.. allegiant airlines...which he says is his favorite. sent him a special birthday message... along with a free flight to anywhere allegiant flies. some valley kids got to shoot hoops with metro officers on saturday. as part of an event called the 'fourth annual safe neighborhood'.. three on three youth basketball tournament. metro officers teamed up other community leaders.. to act as coaches and referees. it's an opportunity for kids all over the valley to get into some friendly competition... and get to know police officers. they get to see us

and it's gaining a lot of attention on a national level. the nine-year old -had to write a poem in class about living in a bully-free world... so, he decided to take it a step further, by using his savings to buy hundreds of bracelets. each one carrying a powerful message against bullying. he passed at school...for people to think twice...before bullying someone. now other schools want to participate. martin says: "the top says live bully free and the bottom says #scpps which stands for st. charles parish public schools." martin says: "that's what bracelets are for because if you've bullied somebody before and you go to do it again, just look at your wrist and you have the band." martin says he hopes his message gets to the family of jason grubb in west virginia. grubb --who is also nine... took his own life on september 10th.. after weeks of bullying at his school. being kind to your fellow seems to be the theme with another amazing youngster.
