live from las vegas, fox5 news this morning starts now good morning i'm alyssa deitsch. in for dave hall. and i'm maria silva. we begin with another night of violent protests in charlotte, north carolina. the state's governor has declared a state of emergency in the wake of tuesday's fatal police shooting. cnn's dianne gallagher joins us live from charlotte where the national guard is moving in to help control the crowd. good morning dianne, what's the latest? reading a book in his vehicle. amid the unrest wednesday evening, north carolina's governor declared a state of emergency and said he'd deploy both the national guard and the state highway patrol to charlotte. one person was shot by another civilian, according to authorities, and is in the hospital on life support. several police officers were injured. journalists were caught up in the chaos. (nats boris sanchez gassed) one reporter was knocked to the ground by a passing man. (nats ed lavendera knocked over) some demonstrators stood in front of the police line a effort to maintain peace ... and there were those who tried to calm the tensions ... us now with a quick look at the fox 5 weather 24-7 forecast. fall arrives thursday morning with a strong low is moving over our area. it's bringing strong winds for the next 24 hours. a wind advisory goes into effect at noon toda las vegas area could be as high as 40 plus miles per hour, more than 50 mph on mount charleston. those winds stick around until friday morning. in the wake of the trough daytime temperatures will drop to the low 80's, into the upper 50's overnight. by saturday high

news overnight... a popular hotel on fremont street was evacuated early this morning after a fire in one of the guest rooms. las vegas fire and rescue's tim szymanski says the fire started on the 9th floor of the carson tower at golden nugget. firefighters say overhead sprinklers put out the mattress fire, which was caused by careless smoking. guests on the eighth, ninth and tenth floors were evacuated. they were allowed to return to their rooms about an hour later. estimated at 10- thousand dollars. nobody was hurt. the stratosphere was evacuated and parts of the strip were shut down after a suspicious package was found. multiple agencies, including metro's bomb squad, responded to the stratosphere to investigate the unattended backpack. it was left in the hotel lobby. investigators determined the bag contained medical equipment, so they gave the all-clear. the stratosphere sent us a statement saying

was just a precaution. a north las vegas doctor was arrested, accused of inappropriately touching a patient. 50-year-old doctor jorge burgos was taken into custody at his office near lake mead and civic center wednesday morning. police say he's facing several counts of open and gross lewdness. doctor burgos posted a six- thousand dollar bond yesterday and was released. doctor burgos been in practice for more than 20 years... and has no record of disciplinary actions by the state board of medical examiners. people are commenting on this story our the fox five facebook page. many say he's a great doctor... but police still believe there could be more victims out there. if you have any information you are asked to call crime stoppers at 702-385-55-55. you can remain anonymous on that tipline. downtown las vegas is now home to one of those naked donald trump statues. the art

heads at 6th and fremont street. the replica of the republican presidential nominee has been getting a lot of attention! and as you can see... the statue leaves little to the imagination. we saw people stopping and taking pictures and snapping selfies. some are calling it art... while others aren't too sure. "i think it's beautiful, i think it really represents like the title says, the emperor has no clothes "i don't know if i'd call it unerving. i think it's the way the rhetoric of this election cycle is that i'm gald someone is doing something like this." a local artist named ginger created the naked trump statues. so far, they have made appearances in new york, san francisco, los angeles and seattle. life is beautiful organizers say the statue will remain in place during the festival. the life is beautiful festival will take over downtown starting tomorrow. the festival is teaming up with pandora this year

nevada governor brian sandoval has called for a special session. where lawmakers will meet to discuss the 1-point-9 billion dollar decision. dave hall breaks down what's next. the possibility of the las vegas raiders took a big step forward ... governor brian sandoval offically called for a special session of the nevada legislature... that session is set to take place no sooner than october 7th... and no later than october 13th. by doing this... the governor is playing a political game of football himself... he'll be trying to score enough votes before the clock runs out on him. "the governor had to strategize when would be the best time to get it called. knowing the nfl is meeting in january he didn't want to wait till the last second and risk maybe not doing it." fox5 political expert mark peplowski says don't expect this stadium project to be rubber stamped thru... the governor only needs a simple

awareness month. every day 44 kids in the u-s are diagnosed with cancer and one in five will not survive the disease. but help is here! a non-profit called "hyundai hope on wheels" is committed to finding a cure for childhood cancer. child cancer survivors are appointed as ambassadors, who then travel the world, sharing their stories of survival with other sick kids. "i think that they're just like wow, i've seen how someone has survived similar to what i have so i'm going to have hope and continue pushing the fight in my disease so i think i'm sort of inspiring them to help them have hope and stay strong throughout their journey." "they're survivors and they've got a great story to tell and they give these kids hope and we do that over and over again and it really has an impact."
