a suspect is dead and a police officer is injured, after a shootout this morning. this happened in kingman arizona... which is about an hour an a half away from our valley. and this started over a search warrant for stolen property. fox5's eric hilt joins us live from kingman now with what police are saying about the suspect.

a massive train crash in new jersey leaves one person dead, and more than 100 people hurt. investigators say the passenger train slammed into a terminal in hoboken... just outside new york city. part of the terminal roof collapsed, and the train went into a building. one survivor says he was standing in the front car, when the train crashed. "(survivor of train crash) "it was a loud bang, yeah, it

didn't stop. the lights went out, and then the roof just came down on it." " investigators are looking at a number of factors in this crash, including the track, signals, and operation error. they are comparing it to a crash that happened at this station back in 2011 to see if there are any similarities. coming up at four-40, we will get a live report from hoboken on where the investigation stands now. nevada's education savings account program is permanently suspended... after a nevada supreme court ruling today. justices issued a four to two ruling on the voucher-style program. the ruling says e-s-a is unlawful because its drawing on money for public schools. the program has been hotly debated since lawmakers passed it last year. families would have been able to use public funds for private school tuition. groups filed lawsuits against e-s-a, with some saying that money should not go to religious organizations. no funds were ever given out to famlies. a man convicted of killing his fiance with a butcher knife... is now accused of attacking a jail

police say "david frostick" hit a corrections officer in the face with a flashlight, and used his legs to try and choke him. this happened last wednesday at the clark county detention center. metro says the officer was taken to the hospital, but will be okay. the attack came just a few days after a jury decided frostick should get life in prison without parole... for the 2009 killing of "robin lesley jenkens". people in the valley are spooked after a schoolers at chaparral high school received a friend request from a scary looking clown. fox5s abby theodros spent the day looking into this situation and has more on how students are reacting and what police are saying about the situation thankfully - ccsd police are calling it a hoax but that doesn't mean students didn't get a good scare when they first got a friend request from a clown that kind of resembled the ones you're seeing here this is the profile picture students saw when they

the request from "garbo the clown". but it gets worse- this actuallly targeted chapparal high school students. it reads "everyone that goes to chaparral high school in las vegas run!!! we're coming for you" we talked with a chapparal high school junior about the situation...take a listen marcus barrera: "i swiped it and thats when i actually looked at it. and it said "garbo the clown" and im like 'what is this?' so i just left it there. and the next thing you know im on face book and im seeing posts about school and im like 'what?' 'is this really happening?'" we talked with ccsd police about their investigation and they wouldnt tell us how they determined the account was a fake. they told us no charges were filed. we also reached out to metro police about the spike in rogue clowns in differnt u.s. cities - they say there are no regulations on freedom of speech so it's not illegal. coming up at 5 - i talked to an expert who scares people for a living. we'll tell you what he has

a new traffic light is helping control traffic at blue diamond and el capitan. this is an area that definitely needed it! the light's signals were activated early this morning. the traffic light is part of a two- point-four million dollar project to improve this road, and make it safer for everyone. more than 42 thousand cars travel on blue diamond every day. and as the mountain edge area grows, more cars will be using these roads. a crash happened right down the street from this new light, at blue diamond and decatur. police say a car plowed into the back of a las vegas paving hauler. one person had minor injuries. warm weather, bad attitudes, and zodiac signs are just a few of the many excuses judges hear... from people trying to get out of jy duty.

people to do their jury duty. the courts also need people to respond to grand jury service. this is a year-long commitment, and jurors meet once a week. judges say any form of jury duty is very important for our community and justice system. " participate in our jury and justice system. i served on a jury and it was a great experience be sure to respond if you get a jury summons and play an important part in our justice system" the judges nevada supreme court justices mark gibbons and district court judge barker. firefighters are battling a wildfire on mount charleston. the small fire is burning near mary jane falls and big falls. crews have it contained to a quarter of an acre. so far, no word on how the fire started, or if any buildings are damaged. wildfires are the reason why more hunting permits are being handed out in northern

officials say wildfires burned 128 thousand acres near elko. this means there is not enough land for deer to graze on, and they are suffering from a lack of food. wildlife officals fear the deer will suffer, so they are offering two 14 day hunts... in addition to existing hunts planned. these new hunts will be for female deer only. one thousand antlerless tags will be issued. officials say this will help the remaining deer survive the winter in better body condition. now fox5 weather 24/7 we've seen some clouds around the valley on thursday, but the bulk of the showers and storms have stayed off to our east. we'll keep it partly cloudy tonight with an overnight low temperature of 70 degrees in las vegas. friday will stay mostly sunny with high temperatures topping out in the low 90s during the afternoon; slightly

"we've been researching this for several years now. we've done our homework. we've talked to a lot of different cities that have done t same thing and we are super excited to get this program going here in downtown las vegas." the r-t-c bike share program is launching tomorrow! there are 21 stations and 180 bikes available in the area. it's only four dollars for a 30 minute ride... or eight dollars for the whole day. you can also become a monthly member and receive a membership card to use the bikes anytime you want. the r-t-c hopes the bike share program will help promote healthy lifestyles.

platform. the crash occured around 8:45 am eastern time this morning. part of the roof of the terminal appears to have collapsed. the ntsb is sending teams to the scene... and will look at all possible factors. now. one of the children shot at a south carolina school yesterday, is still in critical condition. two children and a teacher were wounded by a 14- year-old gunman. police say the teenager shot the three victims on the playground. they also found the suspect's father dead from gunshot wounds. a volunteer firefighter wrestled the suspect at the playground, before he could fire more shots. and take a look at this video... a california man is now in jail, after he kidnapped a woman from a convenience store! you can see her struggling to get away here. the woman told police she was able to attack her captor and escape. she was found at a cemetary in north hollywood. police caught up to the suspect in a car chase and arrested him. investigators say the man had been
