thousands of homes are without power. people living along florida's atlantic coastline are being told to get out, immediately! right now, the monster storm is producing strong rains and forecasters say the worst is yet to come. fox's caroline shively has the latest on the evacuation orders.

about 130 miles per hour with even stronger gusts... and the high waves and heavy rain are expected to cause flooding. buelterman says: "we're talking up to eleven feet of storm surge. that's catastrophic. that's the type of situation where people drowned and there will be no one to help them because we cannot put out first responders at risk." georgia hasn't seen a hurricane in decades. deloach says: "we haven't had anything of this magnitude come around in a long time. it's a first time for a lot of people." after south carolina... the hurricane is expected to move out to sea. in savannah, georgia, caroline shively, fox news.>> help is pouring in from across the nation, incuding right here in las vegas. a local volunteer is heading to the east coast to do her part. "people that need help-- i can't even imagine what to expect. " rockee nelson has been volunteering for the red cross since april. she and another volunteer are

news, a man was hit and killed by a train on the tracks in north las vegas, and police say he shouldn't have been on the tracks in the first place. it happened last night near lake mead and the eye- 15. police say the man was trespassing when he was hit. the coroner will release the man's identity. the north las vegas fire department mourning the loss of one of their own. captain yaphet miller was a 22 year veteran of the north las vegas fire department. captain miller died wednesday following a medical emergency. fox5's christine madella spoke with his friend and fellow first responder about the loss.

him cedric williams told us about captain miller's last fire fight. a 3 alarm fire near rancho and washington but when he started talking about captain yaphet miller, the man, and uh, (clears throat) his friend... (wiping tears) give me half a second. he made a difference. he was a big guy with a soft heart, and uh, he made a difference. we loved him as that. it was a tough loss for all of us captain miller leaves behind his wife nickey and two children... as well as the child he saved from a fire in 2007. this child, whom he held a few weeks later. but captain miller didn't want his picture in the paper. that was capt miller, he didn't want accolades, he didn't care at north las vegas fire you see the words "our city, our people, our duty". you now also see the solid black mourning band over the badge. this dept, this city, this country has lost one of its best christine madella fox5 news local las

captain miller's death is considered to have happened in the line of duty because he was working the three alarm fire before the medical episode. funeral arrangements are still being made. a candlelight vigil will be held tonight for the pahrump woman killed by a suspected drunk driver. christine weir's fiance brian choiniere was driving her to work on september 24th, when police say ashley winn ran a red light and hit their car. weir died. her fiance was hospitalized with serious injuries. brian is now out of the hospital. tonight, he will join christine's family and loved ones at the scene of that horrific crash to remember her life. tonight's vigil

"we know we have a perfect site down at cashmen. so we keep hoping that because it's in the heart of the city, the community accesss is there, timing is there. the infrastructure is already in, we have sewer we have everything!"
