back to the news desk. a woman is recovering in the hospital after being beaten while jogging in a henderson neighborhood. many things right to protect herself but the question remains -- how do you protect yourself from a random attacker?? fox5's peter dawson is live in henderson with the full story. she was jogging here on paseo verde and desert shadow in a very nice area of henderson around 4 in the afternoon, when all of a sudden, witnesses say they saw 23 year michael mattingly approach her and started to beat her. when the attack

ground in critical condition. henderson police say, mattingly ran from the scene. another woman pulled over trying to help her, and that's when she says mattingly tried to carjack her car, pulling and yanking the driver out of her seat. he was unsuccessful and was later arrested and charged with battery resulting in bodily harm, attempted robbery and violating his parole. joggers we spoke with are a little on edge. alison elliott sot : "green valley has really nice sidewalks they're away from the road and it feels really nice ((butt sot)) alison elliott sot : "right on the road or right around here especially with all the people around that's pretty shocking" mattingly's father told us his son needed help and was on a binder for over a week. his father says only jail or a hospital visit could get his son the help he needed. so the question remains how do you best protect yourself from what appears to be a random attack. she was many things right, jogging in a crowed area and during the day. police advise to walk or jog in groups or carry mace or pepper
