it happened last night in cedar rapids in the 3200 block of ravenwood terrace northwest kwwls amanda gilbert is there right now. she's been speaking with cedar rapids police this morning and has more details.. ally i just got off the phone with a d-c-i agent. you can see officers are still on the scene here -- the agent i spoke with says they'll be keeping someone cedar rapids police say they were after a car that had three suspects for a drug investigation inside. when they stopped the car... they say a man in his early 20s started to run. two officers and a k9 chased after him... they say that's when the man shot at the officers. the officers fired back and the suspect was killed. the officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave and the iowa division of criminal investigation is investigating the incident.... now this is all standard procedure for

officer involved shootings. both the officers and the k9 were not hurt. no names have been released at this time. we've got you covered live in cedar rapids, amanda gilbert, kwwl news. the other two suspects that were in the car are being interviewed. at this point officers are not announcing any charges against them. police release dash cam video of an incident involving cleveland browns quarterback johnny manziel and his girlfriend according to the police report, manziel told police his girlfriend threw his wallet out of the car window. manziel stopped the car to look for his wallet and that's when police got involved. she claims he hurt her and that's why she tossed the wallet. the couple admitted they had been drinking alcohol before they argued. however police said that manziel did not appear intoxicated. no charges have been filed.

a chase but it's pretty easy for them to catch him -- he stopped the car in a parking lot and tried to run off. the parking lot he stopped in -- belonged to a police department. officers caught up with him and charges are pending. a 16-year-old is hit by a car while crossing the street. the florida teen dies -- and the driver of the car posts a picture on social media along with the words "just killed a man. r-i-p." we will not be showing you the disturbing picture this morning -- but the driver's tweet was shared by many online before it was deleted. "no one deserves that. he was going to the store for me to get a loaf of bread." the accident is under investigation...no word on whether the driver will face charges. now the sad aftermath of the mudslides in california. a body is found inside one of the trapped cars. crews found an s-u-v trapped under all of the mud. the area where the vehicle was found was hit hard last week by storms that caused mud and

"i take this all the time when way it goes" a good reminder to never drive on flooded roads. new this morning...frequent flooding is causing iowa city's parks and recreation department to re- think lower city park. this is video from 2014 -- when flooding closed the park for a significant amount of time. the park also flooded in 2013. the city wants to hear what you think about the park's future: what should stay at the park and what needs to change. there's two open houses tonight -- both at the robert a. lee recreation center. the first starts at five and the second begins shortly after six. also new this morning...it seems the board of regents is planning another tuition raise. at today's meeting the board

the 2016- 2017 school year -- though the final vote won't happen until december. they're considering a three percent hike for undergraduate tuition. earlier this year regents approved a three percent increase at u-n-i and i-s-u for the upcoming spring semester...while university of iowa students successfully argued a tuition freeze. this was the first increase in several years. decision 2016 coverage this morning... vice president joe biden's sounding like a presidential candidate...while hillary clinton prepares to take the hot seat on capitol hill. as tracie potts tells us, today, hillary clinton calls herself an enemy of republicans. of republican friends, this is a himself and the democratic frontrunner... and clarifying the record. in 2012 he advised president obama to go slow going thought he should go." will he run, or won't he? democrats are getting anxious: "it makes him look indecisive." born and raised in waterloo, he decided to do the same with his family. college. but it might be his charity that he's most proud of...."from the heart" "which focuses on helping to improve housing for low income, elderly, and physicially disabled residents. i think "hart has also been on the city council for seven years. six of he'd be the first black mayor of waterloo. "diversity is a strength and so waterloo that city that we can have the potential to be." hart and that includes building that trust between law enforcement and the community. today. it will be at the five sullivan brothers center from four until six this evening. less is more when it comes to breast cancer screenings -- according to new guidelines from the american cancer society. the organization says women should start getting mammograms at 45 instead of 40, and skip routine manual breast checks by doctors. according to the organization, the measures are not very effective. critics say the research is based on film mammograms, which is nearly obsolete in the u-s. newer digital mammograms have a lower false positive rate and do a better job of detecting cancer.

the same town in a span of just a few days. while the quakes in the california town have all been pretty small -- most so weak people can't feel them -- people are worried. so a teacher helps his class prepare for them by having a drill... "i think the energy and the excitement about them, but also really disclosing that there's a lot of fears that young people have, well we all have them. there will be an isolated shower possible later today, however most of us do stay dry. tomorrow it will be mostly sunny and cooler, but still above average. there is a widespread, better chnace for rain as we head into the day on friday. we definitely do need the rain across all of eastern iowa. of course, areas along and south of highway 20 saw some rain yesterday. here are the totals for all of october, which in cedar rapids, iowa city, and dubuque, this all fell yesterday afternoon and evening. some areas did have over an inch. this is great news as there are several counties still under that burn ban in eastern iowa. the good news, beneficial rain will be making its way into the area as we head into the day on friday. here's the storm track 7 live doppler shows dry conditions here across eastern iowa. the rain that tracked through the southern half of the area is well off to the east. we have a cold front off to the west, with some scattered areas of showers and a few thunderstorms. this cold front and low pressure will continue to track through the east,

people who fight bulls expect drama and risk -- but usually the audience is safe. not in this case. a bull jumps into the stands. this happpened in peru -- at least four people got hurt. the video shows spectators irritating the bull by throwing things and splashing beer at him before the incident. and lions can grow up to be a bit scarier -- but these three african lion cubs at the indianapolis zoo are just cuddly. they weigh less than ten pounds. they're staying inside with mom until spring to stay healthy. no names yet for the trio- the zoo will hold a naming contest.

morning. a man is dead after a shootout with police. this happened last night in cedar rapids. police say they pulled a car over -- believing the three people inside were suspects in a drug investigation. officers say a man in his 20s ran away -- they followed him and claim the man started shooting. they fired back -- and the suspect died. the officers are ok. we'll have another live report from cedar rapids later this half hour. in new york city, a shootout between a suspect and police leaves an officer dead. authorities say the new york city police officer responded to reports of a man with a gun. the 33-year-old spotted the suspect and there was an exhcange of shot in the head... "we're mourning a man who gave his life as a guardian for all of us... and we're humbled by officer randolph holder's example... an example of service and courage and sacrifice." officer holder --- a five-year

veteran --- died at a nearby hospital. he is the fourth new york city police officer killed in the last 11 months. a new york teenager beaten inside of his church is expected to testify against his sister and another defendant today. police say the 17-year-old is under the supervision of child protection services. his parents, sister, and church members allegedly beat him and his 19- year-old brother earlier this month. the brother died. police say the beating was a result of the two wanting to leave the church. all six people charged are pleading not guilty.. seattle seahawks player fred jackson loses control of his car and hits a street sign. according to police, the runningback was not hurt but did get checked out by the team's medical staff.. the car has some damage. an american airlines flight from san jose to dallas is diverted because of an unruly passenger. police say a 26- year-old passenger appeared to be drunk

he had to be restrained. there will be a hearing on capitol hill today about the growing threats the country faces. the house homeland security committee hearing will examine the threat from isis and the possible impact europe's refugee crisis has on the nation's security. and an ally in the fight against isis wants to withdraw. canada's new leaders told president obama tuesday that canada will withdraw from the u-s air coalition to bomb isis. however -- canada will continue to help train afghan forces... he understands the commitments i've made around ending the combat mission." he just won election and adds withdrawing canadian warplanes fulfills a campaign promise. deadly violence continues between palestinians and israelis in one situation -- a palestinian driving a truck hit and killed an israeli man. in a second incident a palestinian man stabbed an israeli soldier. the palestinian was shot dead.

the former u-n general assembly president and three others are accused of bribery. prosecutors claim the man took more than 800- thousand-dollars in bribes from various chinese businessmen to support business deals in antigua. the three others indicted each face counts of bribery conspiracy and bribery. republicans in the house may have a candidate for house speaker -- if they meet his demands. wisconsin congressman paul ryan changing his mind -- he'll do the job. but andrew spencer tells us the congressman has a few requests before he says yes. wanted, ever sought." almost grudgingly, ryan told his fellow republicans in congress that he is willing to become speaker of the house... ...but he has conditions. conference, what i think it takes to have a successful speakership, and i will leave it to my colleagues to decide if i house ended majority leader kevin mccarthy's bid to become speaker. he pulled his name from consideration earlier this month. lawmakers then turned to former vice presidential candidate paul ryan.

we are following bmorning. cedar rapids police shoot and kill a suspect after they say he fired at them. this all happened around 10:30 last night. kwwl's amanda gilbert has been following this story for us for hours. she joins us live from cedar rapids now. this all happened in a neighborhood and it's been pretty quiet all morning. police are still here -- i spoke with rick rahn with the iowa division of criminal investigation, they want to make sure the scene stays safe. cedar rapids police say this all started around 10:30 last night when officers stopped a car they believed had three suspects for a drug investigation inside of it. police say one of the suspects got out of the car and started to run. two officers and a k9 chased after the man... who they say was in his

army veteran, and a breast ancer survivor. an autopsy is scheduled to determine the cause of her death. a home catches fire after being struck by lightning. it happened in the 600 block of college street in iowa city says the fire started in the attic. at least three people were in the house at the time -- but everyone got out safely. however -- one firefighter went to the hossital for obsbsrvation. continuing coverage now of the efforts to end gun violence in eastern iowa. 15-year-old aaron richardson was shot and killed in cedar rapids last month. he -- and his alleged killer -- both attended high schools in cedar rapids. yesterday-- nearly 200 cedar rapids jefferson freshman gathered in the band room to discuss gun violence. city leaders formed a panel and answered questions from the ststents students also haha the option tt sign a pledge against gun violence.

if they choose to do so, the issue heads to district court. the fight to add another casino in iowa continues. democratii state senatorally horn plans to introduce legislation next ssion to builddhe state's first smoke-free casino. horn chairs a committee studying casinos. he's also from the cedar rapids area. several bills calling for a smoke-free casino did not advance last session. cedar rapids mayor ron corbett was the first to introduce the idea of smoke-free casino...as the city continuesto look for a way to bring one in after the iowa racign and gaming commission said no to a linn county gaming license. the fountain outside the university of iowa hospitals and clinics is gone. the fountain was installed in the 1970s at the main entrance of the hospital. a new welcome will be instaled in its place. thatatroject should be done by the end of november... an iowa home -- built from sod -- still stands. this home in long grove was built in 1838 and the original sod is still in the walls..
