neighbor -- who happened to be hopped to action. smoke plumbes out of a home in janesville-- a home that unexpectedly exploded less than an hour before... fire crews say a small fire started in the basement, and then spread to the floor above.. 'officials say the man walked out of the home seconds before it exploded" crews were able to put "it was just a big boom" standing in his yard when the explosion happen. andy "i looked across the yard where the house was at, i saw a guy running towards the house, i didnt know if he was going back else was inside but eibey says once he in the home to let the smoke out "i'm glad nobody was hurt, we probably lost a house out of the the fire was put out, and everyone was safe..

missing truck the owner of the truck says he saw miller take it -- and even tried running after him. a neighbor with surveillence cameras at his home has video of the truck lights coming on. you can see legs running toward the truck at the top of your screen. neighbors say they later found the body in their driveway. here in eastern iowa. iowa state patrol stopping 34-year- old burley blankenship on interstate 35 near the county line of franklin and wright. police say he killed his mother - chrisann -- in cleveland, ohio. he is currently being held in the hamilton county jail -- ohio. a gunman is dead after reports of shots fired at a law firm. police responding to the building in davenport -- which also houses a military recruiting center -- however -- police say the the recruiting office was not targeted. after seeing responding officers in the parking lot -- the gunman then allegedly shot himself in the head. two others suffered minor injuries in the incident. police arrest an armed robbery suspect inside a barber shop. cedar rapids officers arresting 21-year-old travonte hughes after he was identified inside style city. police say he jumped out of a chair and ran to a nearby

before pointing a gun at officers.. they were later able to get him to the floor and take him into custody. hughes is facing weapons and assault charges. authorites now rule a hotel fire as arson. fire crews responding to the hotel and convention center. firefighters say it started in the maid's closet on the fourth floor. the fire did not spread to any nearby rooms -- but there is smoke and water damage. there are no reports of any injuries. one person is injured after a semi rolls over on the highway. authorities say 54-year-old dale schindler lost control and crossed the median on highway 20 in delaware county. the truck rolled on its side and crashed into a ditch. schindler was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. a 13-year-old is hit by a driver who then takes off -- and still remains unidenitifed.

it happened around one sunday morning at the intersection of broadway street and riehl street in waterloo. the teenager -- lyisha dixon was taken to iowa city with injuries to her face. but she's back at home in waterloo tonight. her mother says lyisha snuck out -- along with her cousin-- to go to the nearby kwik star when she was hit. she says she's still shocked that someone would hit her daughter and keep driving --- but she's thankful her daughter's injures aren't worse. soyna gamblin "that was the worst day ever, but at the end of the day, it was the best day ever. you know why? cause i got to bring my daughter home from the hospital still alive. i am still able to talk to her." police are working to identify the driver of the car from nearby surveillance video. working to identify the driver of the car from nearby

a teen with special needs goes missing for days -- making his family worry. moe sed was last seen at his home in waterloo thursday afternoon. he's a refugee from burma and speaks accented english. his family says they're worried because he needs his medicine. "please help us find him. we are really worried about him as his parents. we haven't seen him for days and we really want to see his face." his mother says he doesn't know his address or how to use a pay phone. if you have any information please contact police. new at ten -- the board of education unanimously votes to approve a new career center for waterloo schools. the proposal would enact the c.e.t. otherwise know as career and technical education plan.

the plan would have a goal of re- engaging students of higher levels to better prepare them for life after high school. the program has been implimented in other schools in iowa. it shows increases in the percentage of students that graduate and the number of students likely to continue their education. the proposal will now go to a bond vote. big lottery winners in illinois aren't getting their payouts, thanks to state lawmakers. they've yet to pass a budget this year, meaning the lottery can't pay out any winnings over six hundred dollars. and that means a boost in business for the iowa lottery. kwwl's brad hanson talking to business owners on both sides of the border today. brad joins us live now from the t-h media newsroom in dubuque with what they're saying today. businesses on both sides of the border are definitely seeing a bit of a difference as players

the woman accused of running over several people during oklahoma state university's homecoming parade

making her first court appearance today. adacia chambers appearing in court on a video monitor, but her family and friends were present. four people were killed in the incident -- dozens injured. her attorney telling reporters about the time chambers spent at a mental hospital. her family says she was given powerful medication while being treated there. s/tony/coleman/attorney "however during a visitation when dad visited her she was foaming at the mouth, her arms were extended out. his exact words were she was in a zombie like state" according to chambers' father, doctors at the mental hospital changed her prescription and her father said she returned to normal. chambers' next court appearance is november 13th. strong winds send a construction crane toppling onto the highway. you'll see the crane start to tip here in israel. it eventually comes crashing down -- just missing the farther
