south to the north. temperaraures are in the mid 20s to low 30s and the winds are already strong... northeast at 15 to 30 mph and gusting higher... and theypwill get even stronger today through the evening. the wintery weathehe will continue to track to the north with many areas getting up to a quarter and areas to the north, of it. these amounts incncude an inch ooso of sleet mixing in... if that sleet doesn't last as long as expected, snowfall amounts could be higher. all in all... this is a nasty day to travel with snow, sleet, freezing rain and blowing snow with the v vry strong winds. the storm tracks out later tonight and then we get cold. i'll have that forecast for you in a few minutes our top story this morning... we've had a pretty quiet winter so far... but that's changing today.... as eileen told us... a winter storm

from the kwwl stormtrack 7 wewether am: a dangerous winter storm is tracking into the kwwl viewing area today... a winter storm warning is posted for all of us through tonight. we can expect snow, sleet, freezing rain and wind with thisssystem. roads are deterrorating from the south to the north as sleet and freezing rain continue to track into the state. stormtrack7 live weather network cameras will show all forms of frozen precip today. temperatures are in the mid 20s to low 30s, although it is only in the singll digits in nw iowa. winds are strong... ne 15-30 mph already gusting higher and will be mainly 20-30 mph gusting to 40 to 50 mph today... which will reduce visibilities and cause blowing and drifting to be a problem,

as eileen mentioned, a winter storm warning covers the entire viewing area, including cedar rapids. right now we're taking a look at i- 380. cedar rapids is expected to get several iiches of snoo. in england, they're having their own weather problem: flooding. hundree of additionalaltroops were ordeeed to help emergency workers battle rising flood waters that hit nearby cities. this comes after weeks of heavy rain. rescue crews have been using boats to help remove people from their homes... "we moved around 40 or 50 to stay, they're in upper floors, and they're warm and dry. so they're going to stay and see how it goes. and hoefully the water will start receding soon." several hundred flood warninn are still in effect. no deaths or serious injuries were reported. more severe flooding is expected today. the day as t te storm develops... on air and online. another good way to track the storm is through our storm track stores are busy with christmas returns... but they're also busy winter returns. eastern iowans are loading up on supplies ahead of the storm. many are stoccng up on salt t or "just a few items that i needed so i wouldn't have to go out if i didngt have to." others are mmking sure their snowblowers are tuned up and ready to go. wind blowing that's the sound of a big winter storm bearing down on parts of texas and oklahoma. blizzard conditions in the panhandle. almost all of interstate 40 in texas has been shut down. people are being told to stay off the road in parts of both states this mooning. sixty-thousand homes are without power this morning in oklahoma. people in new mexico are not used to seeing this -- and

told to get off the road. more than a foot of snow fell in that state. wind gusts have topped 60 miles an hour -- which means snow drifts are several feet high. police say they have been busy rescuing stranded drvers.. and it's not just snow causing problems. what a mess in texas right now. nine tornadoes touched down over the weekend. hundreds of homes were damaged and at least 11 people were killed. andrew spenceegives us a llok at the communities hit hard. in the darkness, only when the lightning flashed could torandoes hit copeville, texas ... ripping this home into the air. very grateful that everybody is alive." i'm andrew spencer, reporting severe weather is also ccusing headaches in missouri. emergency crews are busy with high water floodwaters when she tried to cross a road near west springfield. fortunnely, she was able to call forrhelp and rescue crews were able to get to her in time. this is just one of more than 1- hundred water rescues over the weekend. emergency @rews expect more rain and more flooding through he dada today. mimisouri is under a state of emergency because of the high water. here's another look at the problem. one dealership is under water. all over the state -- major flooding has ccosed aboutt200 roads. high water is also an issue in another state. this is video out of indiana.

despite the turn of winttr weather -- many businesses are taking a look at their books. a mild winter in parts of the u-s is paying off for some... and not so much for others. among the hardst hit: dedertment stores s nd retailers which stocked all that winter clothing that -- up until now -- "is that a problem? absolutely. that is hurting sales. it's in scarve scarves, mittens, and sweaters, a big de." ski resoots in the norrheast have been hit hard so far this winter. many of them are very quiet. one industry that could benefit is home building. it shuts down in some parts of the country during the coldestt winter months -- but has been extended so far this year -- because of the mild weather in parts of the u-s. but again -- as we've been talking about -- those conditions are a big development this morning in iraq. wwhin the lastthour, iraq's military says the city of ramadi has been fully liberated from
