through the area this morning, but they won't add too much more today. roads are slowly improving, but they are still partially to completely covered with snow and ice with the iowa dot camera showing that most roads have at least one lane passable. visibilities are improving this morning as the winds die down, although they will stay 5 to 15 mph. temps are in the 20s this morning and wind chills are in the teens. we will keep the few snow minutes. and continuing our team 7 coverage... storm track seven's amanda gilbert

county. amanda, how is it now? i was out all yesterday... back out today... conditions are definatly a lot better this morning. it's still snowing but just lightly. driving though is still a major concern. this morning it looks like there's still a thin later of snow on a lot of the roads... plows are out working hard though this morning...i've saw a lot on my way to work. here's one of the plows in waterloo this morning. i know they have a lot of cedar rapids road crews have been out to... they told me they have 90 snow university.... and in the last difference. driving is still a concern... you don't know how much ice is on the road... and it looks like some side roads and neighborhood roads still need to be plowed. we've got you covered... live in black hawk county... amanda gilbert... kwwl news. according to the iowa dot's

there are more than 300 of their plows out working right now. and the decorah eagles aren't eagle cam. a fresh layer of snow tops the nest - it doesn't seem like there are any signs any birds have been in the nest since the snow started falling. in cedar rapids -- the streets superintendent says at around 2 a-m this morning around 90 plows worked to clear the streets in time for this morning's commute. drivers say it's slick out there. "it did make driving, make bit more because there are just a lot of slippery roads and slippery streets." the city issued a snow emergency starting at yesterday -- it goes until noon today, that means you cannot park in snow emergency routes, we have a link to those routes on our website.

on weather, delays or cancellations, head over to our website kwwl dot com. iowa wasn't the only state dealing with snow. the snow and sleet also led to traffic troubles for drivers in madison, wisconsin. the wintry mix and gusty winds caused several cars to spin out and off the roads. no serious injuries were reported. down in mid- missouri, flooding is a major issue. at least six people are dead after high waters flooded the area. missouri officials say over a dozen homes are underwater. police confirm at least six people died when their vehicles were swept away by the rushing flood abnormally high and very deceiving. "there's normally just low water bridges. they're contiguous to a lot of missouri road networks, and it's impossible sometimes to determine just how much or the the water." some people say they stood in the cold flood waters for nearly

hours before they were evacuated. snow and ice may have led to a gas station canopy collapsing in wisconsin yesterday. two cars were trapped beneath it. one was destroyed, the other damaged.... but no one was injured. the gas station will be closed an iowa woman is killed after being involved in a charter bus crash in chicago. police say the burlington trailways bus crashed into a sign on an interstate. the des moines woman was taken to a hospital in critical condition, and she later died of her injuries. here is what a couple passengers had to say... people were screaming." "just a lot of commotion. you hear a loud bang. this mother grab her child. we're sitting right on the side, and you see glass everywhere. the bus was traveling from omaha, nebraska to downtown

a grand jury failed to indict the officers involved in the death of a 12 year old boy in cleveland. this comes as chicago police have two more officers on paid leave, as the department investigates the fatal shooting of two people.. one police already admit was an accident. from washington. natsot (tamir protest ) officers involved in shooting and killing 12 year old tamir "i would like to see a legal cops." on november 22, 2014 someone called 911 saying there gunman in the park. the dispatcher never relayed critical information to responding officers that it was likely a boy with a toy gun. one second after the officers arrived they shot tamir. "it was horrible unfortunate and regrettable but it was not by the law the binds us a crime." "someone other than the elected county official who community day in and day out should have probably made this decision."

mayor rahm emmanuel cut his vacation short amid new calls for his resignation. two officers shot and killed a 19 year old they say they accidentially killed a mother of 5 in the gunfire. the justice department is already looking at the chicago police department as a whole for their community response and escalation protocols.. edward lawrence, nbc news, washington. the families of the victim's are looking to washington for justice. they want to make sure the justice department does a thorough investigation into whether the police officers involved violated the civil rights of the ones they killed. police in arizona say two children are in the hospital after being shot. police say the eight-year-old boy

sitting in the car when shots were fired. the children were taken to the hospital. we don't know how they're doing this morning. a texas teenager who avoided jail time for murder because of an "affluenza" defense --has been found in mexico. authorities confirmed ethan couch and his mother were arrested. a man hunt began for the two after he missed an appointment with his probation officer. this comes after social media posts showed couch playing a drinking game, in clear violation of the conditions that kept him out of jail. he'll be turned over to u-s marshalls. one person is hurt after a woman crashes her s-u-v into a new york storefront. surveillance video shows the 88- year-old woman pulling into the parking lot when she apparently hit the gas instead of the brake... sending her vehicle over the curb and plowing through the front of the store. one shopper says he's "lucky to crash. "i got a guardian angel. i got a another two seconds late then i would've been hit."

not hurt. so far, no charges have been filed. rescuers tried to reach the workers who have been trapped in a mine that collapsed over the weekend in china. 29 workers were down in the mine when it collapsed. eleven miners were successfully lifted to the surface after the accident, leaving one dead and 17 others still trapped. so far more than 7-hundred rescue workers have been deployed for the rescue operation. police in northern new jersey are investigating a bizarre series of church thefts. baby jesus statues have been snatched from five catholic churches since christmas eve. police are trying to determine if the thefts are related, and any motive. church officials say they hope the thefts are nothing more than pranks, and would like the statues returned. now you may remember last year, a baby jesus was stolen from a nativity outside a church in dubuque. you can see a woman in the video jump out of the passenger seat and grab it before jumping back into the car.

the west. winds are much lighter... they are mainly 5 to 15 mph and should stay manageable through the day and die down even more tonight. the strong low is dying out as it tracks through the great lakes, but we will keep a lobe of it tracking through today providing a few snow showers. a weak disturbance will track in from the southwest tomorrow and squeeze out a few more snow showers.... accumulations should stay less than an inch between the two. today we will have mostly cloudy skies with those stray snow showers. highs will be in the mid 20s to low 30s with northwest winds around 5 to 15 mph. winds will die down tonight and lows will

already making their morning commute in this weather. right now we're taking a live look out of north liberty off of i-380. we weren't the only ones in iowa who got hammered with snow. the same storm hit sioux city too and brought a mix of snow and sleet. plows and salt trucks were out all day trying to clear the roads. but with some kids on their school winter break, many took the chance to go outside and enjoy the snow. sledders climbed the hills at a sioux city park yesterday. kids are doing what they can to school. "this is my first time sledding that's what i'm going to try to do." and with this snowy weather, today should provide another perfect opportunity for sledders to hit the hills. before

a bridge in pittsburgh is no more. it only took a few seconds for the 94- year-old bridge to come crashing down. the city's department of public works has been planning to destroy the bridge for the last five years -- after inspections indicated that the bridge needed to be replaced. a new bridge is expected to be completed over the next two antonio deserves, but not the one it needs... unless you have pest problems. a bat made its way into the a-t-and-t center, flying around the court prior to tip-off of the timberwolves- spurs game last night. here comes the coyote to the rescue, dressed as the dark knight himself, bat-man. the caped coyote quickly corralled the flying rodent with a fishing net before handing it off to authorities. if the mascot thing doesn't work, the coyote can always fall back

yesterday... driving is still a major concern today... i'm a long university avenue and i saw two cars stuck in the snow just driving to this location... it looks like there still may be a thin later of snow and possibly ice on some roads... especially side and neighborhood roads. plows are out working hard though... here's video of one in waterloo this morning... cedar rapids and waterloo police tell me they haven't seen any major accidents because of this storm yet... but it still is important to be careful today. we've got you covered... live in black hawk county... amanda gilbert kwwl news. we have been checking the iowa department of transportation's track a plow all morning... right now it looks like they streets could still be slick. the city of dubuque had crews

secondary streets. dubuque has a lot of hills... top...i was spinning and trying to make it to the top and finally a guy jumped out of his car...he was coming down the hill, i was going up." crashes were also reported in the dubuque area yesterday. the dubuque county sheriff's office says a 14- year-old was pinned under a car after a crash. it happened yesterday morning on highway 61. the car went into a ditch a rolled. the teenager was taken to the hospital with injuries to his legs. the boy's father was ticketed for failing to maintain control. the roads were slick at the time. and if you want the latest news on weather, delays or cancellations, head over to our website kwwl dot com. snow isn't the only major problem this morning.

parts of the u-s. kim hutcherson has an update. the severe weather system that has already caused tremendous damage bringing blizzard conditions to the west and more flooding to the middle and plains states monday. in missouri, rain continued, sending already swollen rivers surging over their banks. "i am worried. i don't know what to do. oklahoma residents forced to cope with both flood and blizzard warnings. one man had to to walk to safety through freezing water. "i gather my things and i make the trek for about half a mile or so in water that's about waist-high." the cold temperatures and high water were a bad combination. "stood in that water for about three hours waiting for them to get here the list of weather-related fatalities is likely to grow

two men have been pulled from wate in georgia -- the widow of one clearly grieving. authorities say a man and two women ignored signs advising hikers to stay on marked trails. the male hiker was able to get down on his own, and called down. both were not injured. a stolen police vehicle has been found abandoned with a loaded still inside. this is in washington state. police says it appears one or more suspects jumped a fence at the police department's secure parking lot, drove the suv through a locked gate and took off. all police gear in the vehicle was intact and accounted for. to who stole the vehicle. this morning, more trouble hovering over -- what had been a trendy pick for christmas. a new jersey family is cleaning up after a hoverboard burst into flames in their home. family members say they saw it catch fire as it charged...
