the mississippi river is expected to reach nearly 15 feet above the flood stage tomorrow. the flood s expected to turn into one of the worst on record for the statat. e "affluenza" teenager who fled the u-s with his mother is heading home.. authorities believe they took off after a posting on social media showed what appeared to be the teen violattg his probbtion. now, the viccim's families are hoping this time, both the mother and son will face punishment. kim hutcherson has the story. teenager2whose "affluenza" defense he was apprehended monday puerto vallarta,a, mexiio...along withhis mother mid-december. (eduardo almaguer ramirez/jalisco state attorney general) "they are in the process of being, or have been already, deported to the united states so tha they are available for the us marshall service" they disappeared after video was posted online that showed him apparently violating the terms of his probation -- a sentence he received after being convicted of intoxication manslaughter. the case ... ow infamous, after his lawyers said he suffered from "affluenza" -- essentially

his sentence for the drunk driving crash t tat killed ur people -- ten years probation with no jail time. an attorney for the victim's families said they believe both mother and son deserve punishment. (todd clement/lawyer representing families of couch's victims) "i thinkkt's particularly satisfying to the families that indeed, it appears that his mother tonya may hae committed a crime and may finally be held accountabab as well." tonya couch faces charges of hindering apprehension, which carries a sentence of two to ten years in jail. as for her son, they will proceed agginst him. at the moment, the most severe punishment e faces is 120 days in jail. kim hutcherson, kwwl news. for now, prosecutors say couch isn't likely to face significant jail time for violating the terms of his probation.

fighting for their lives after being rescued from a house... one adoption center took them in.... and has been working to keep these cats alive.... kwwl's amanda gilbert joins us live in the newsroom... you've seen some of the animals and talked to the woman who's been looking waverly pet rescue discovered there were 25 to 30 cats living in a hoarder house in eastern iowa.... they were only able to help 7 of the cats.... sadly one of tte seven cats waverly pet rescue was trying to save passed away... they named here astrea after the goddess of justice... carissa shimm has been looking after the other six cats... when these cats came to the vet... they were underweight... flea infested... and very dirty... "and in bathing one of them the water would just turn n ed with the flea dirt." a fewewof the six cats still have ringworm... but after a few more weeks of medication and care... the cats will

develoing overnight: a desperate plea from a governor. he's urging people to stay away y from rising water. 13 people have died in missouri since severe weather moved in over the weekend. even though the rain has moved on -- swollen rivers are still rising and w wn't crest for days. that's why many people were out overnight setting up sandbags. this is video from arnold, missouri -- whicis south of st. louis. "it's very clear that missouri is in the midst of a very dangerous and historic flooding event. the foot, has caused river levels not only to rise rapidly, but to go to places they've never been before." the governor says 2 of those killed were swept away by flood waters in their ccs. many people who helped their neighbors protect their homes this week -- are now trying to save their own. now to a tragedy in eastern iow a man has died after being trapppd in a graiibin.

the benton county sheriff says the man was moving grain into a semi when a wall of corn surrounded him, eventually covering and trapping him. the man was 56. his name has not been released. this is the second tragic accident in a grain bin this month. two weeks ago, a 39-year-old man from central iowa died after becoming trapped. a woman has died after a crash in linn county. the crash happened on highway 151 in fairfax. a car crossed the center line slamming into aather car. a thhrd vehicle swerved to miss the crash -- but ended up hitting a car driven by terri skalsky. skalsky the died. she was 49 years old. a city is planning a major overhaul of the police force. today, we expect to hear about those changes coming in chicago. yesterday, officer jason van dyke pleaded not guilty for the deadly shooting of laquan mcdonald. van dyke is charged with murder. mayor rahm emanuel is expected to make an announcement today that requres tasers for every officer -- who responds to a

a dubuque county native -- one of six americans killed earlier in afghanistan -- will be laid to rest later today. detective joseph lemm was killed in a suicide-bombing in a village last week. he was a member of the n-y-p-d -- and the u-s air national guard. he had also been deployed three and once to iraq. this morning, we're learning about a close call -- not long after that historic nuclear agreement between the u-s and iran. an american aircraft carrier came within 15- hundred yards of an iranian rocket saturday. the u-s-s harry-s- truman was crossing at the mouth lf the persian gulf... just as iranian forces were doing a live- firee exercise. the u-s says the ship never crossed into their water. the u-s also says the iranians did not appear to be targeting specific ships -- but called their actions "unnecessarily provocative and unsafe." decision 2016 coverage: ch candidate wants momentum going into 2016 -- just a month

he iowa caucuues. edwaa lawrence tells us how a republican frontrunner is changing his strategy going into the new year. donald trump has a new tactic and a new taaget. he says he will start spending $2 million a week on campaign ads. "so i'm going to be doing big ads in ia, nh, sc and they're going to be very substantial and i ttnk they're very well done, i've seen the first 2 or 3 of them, i've very proud of them." some experts worry this may be the wrong move. "and in bathing one of them.... the water would just turn red with the flee dirt...." after proper medication and care...the cats are now adjjsting to a new life... "they have to adapt to the human world and to learn to what microwave sounds like or a tv sounds like." and after a few more weeks.... they'll be ready for not only a new life.. but also a some way shape or form i feel
