out on the first play from scrimmage why christian mccaffrey almost won the heisman trophy. ron - what's been a great week here in so- cal - almost ard to watch with the way stanford n all over iowa in the first half and christian mccaffery showed all of us why he's the a-p player of the year - and certainly why many of us believe backbreaking plays in the first half - 75 yard touchdhdwn reception on the very first play stanford scored the first 38 points in this game - mccaffrey with 368 all- purpose yards - and kirk ferentz said afterward - he was just tough to prepare for - "when you play a great football player, and he is a great with that. it's impossible to duplicate that out there on the practice field. we just don't have anybody like
hawkeye fans are no doubt disappointed and perhaps a little stunned by the way stanford dominated this game. but pregame they had a huge cheering section and high hopes for a hawkeye rose bowl victory. kwwl's brad hanson takes us outsidd the stadium for one final tailgate. the sights--black and gold. nats food cooking the smells--all part of the tailgate experience. that experience coming outside of the rose bowl today, as hawkeye fans get one llst chanane to prepare for an iowa game this year. "it's unbelievable. we've e een tataing about this for forever, this is unbelievable. we're running into people we haven't seen in iowa for years, we see them down here, have a drink with them, it's awesome." there's no shortage of team spirit black and gold, either. thank you so much, guys... we'll have full highlights and more post game reaction coming up from ron and mark in just a few minutes... another big feature to the rose bowl festivities is the parade -- and what evennwould be complete these days without star wars? storm troopers joined the disney float at the parade -- now in its 1 hundred 27th year. it's one of dozens of floats and bands -- making their way through pasadena. and the university of iowa band made a grand appearance in the rose parade. the school's band performed throughout thhnearly five mile route. the band also played the national anthem inside the rose
moment, i'd say. if you were watching the rose bowl halftime show yesterday -- you may have notiied it went to a commercial break- before the bands were done playing. and that's believed to be because of ...the stanford marching band... according to an espn report... the group appeared to be making fun of iowa with a farmer themed show. there was a corn maze and this farmer in a hat... there was even a giant cow hat was roaming around the enttre performance. . s you can imagine, hawk fans didn't take kindly to this -- take a listen.... (booing, booing, more booing) when the band finished playing the giant cow was tipped over. after the performance the stanford band responded from their twitter account saying, "glad you like our corn show, iowa. couldn't tell, was that booing or mooing." you may know, the stanford band has a reputation for making fans mad durii their performances. get

the first waterloo baby of 20-16 is born happy and healthy. this is royalty johnson. she was born at 3-30 yesterday morning at covenant -- and weighs five pounds five ounces. royalty's mom says her duu date was actually january 20 -- but she's glad she came early... "i wasn't feeling good. so, they told me to come in and i just got induced." according to family -- not only is royaltta new year's baby -- but so is her great grandmother. it's coming up on today in iowa... plenty more rose bowl coverage from our guys in pasadena.. stay tuned. plus...a schloarship is set up in honor of an iowa student who died in a chicago bus crash.. how you can help, on the way... you're watching kwwl -- we've

the hawkeyes finally arrived yesterday.... kwwl's ron steele and mark woodley rejoin us in pasadena for more on the game... well there's no doubt about it this 45-16 loss to the stanford cardinal -- it's a crushing defeat and it's going to sting for awhile... but what a great experience for the hawkeyes and the tens of thousands of hawkeye fans... you know mark woodley... the one thing -- the game started off poorly for the hawks as stanford's christian mccaffrey scored on the first play from scrimmage... yeah that just took the here's how it went down... 25 years - but it's safe to say mccaffrey across the middle - took the kevin hogan pass to the house - 75 yards - iowa playing mccaffery - but it was kevin hogan - on the keeper from the 8 even worse after quenton meeks
took the beathard pass for the pick 6, stanford's 21 points the most for a team in the first putting up video game numbers - mccaffrey returned a punt 63 yards in the second for a score and had 248 all-purpose yards muster anything - beathard went down 3 times in the first half - iowa embarassed 35, nothing at the break - the second half finally brought something positive as a bad snap on a stanford punt would set the hawks up deep in stanford territory - but all iowa could muster was a 39 yard marshall koehn field goal to break up the shut-out - but in the 4th quarter - they'd get one in to the endzone - beathard with a great toss down the sidelines to matt vandeberg - 36 yards for the score - 38, 9 iowa - and they'd add another as wide open as he'd srint his way to the zone with a nice cut at the end - hawks still down 22 - and they got no closer - kevin hogan makes 'em pay one more
big 42 yard touchdown play - hawkeye fans stuck around until the end - but this one would sting tonight - iowa falls 45, 16 - they're a great team. they took advantage of all our things today. all the small mistakes we really got a chance to stop it. we settled down a bit in the 2nd half, but we dug too deep a hole. we went down 21-nothing early and it's hard to come back from when you get down that much, and christian mccaffery had a whopping 368 yards, i don't know if that's a record or not but it is very impressive... it was just incredible
game -- it seemed like like he strong 21 of 33 for 239 yards and two touchdowns.... it just came too little too late... but cj got sacked stanford rush. and this one's
while -- certainly putting a damper on a great season when you look at things like that 12 and oh start -- the future looks very bright with a lot of talent returning -- but
i can't imagine anyone on that team is thinking about that right now... tough to win a game with 48 yards rushing... we've steele kwwl news... thanks, guys... there you have it -- certainly not the result many of us here in eastern iowa were hoping for following an amazing, historic year for the hawks... but what a great ride the 2015 season was for this team and so many of us that got to cheer on the hawkeyes... plenty more news to come today... you're watching kwwl. we've got you covered in north liberty,
