than a dozen. the iowa national guard left for provide relief. kwwls olivia mancino was in cedar rapids to see the soldiers return she joins us now live back in our newsroom 45 soldiers and 15 vehicles deployed new years morning to missouri to provide clean water to thousands of people i spoke to a few of the soldiers before they left last week and to more soldiers today.. for many of them this was the first national disaster they've ever responded to. it was a chilly homecoming wednesday afternooon for this iowa national guard convoy. "jumping out of the truck when we first crossed over was really cold" just hours prior these soldiers were in missouri, providing relief to flood victims who have been without clean water for weeks. "the areas we got to see it was carnage...we saw a trailer house in a baseball field and it was picked up and moved to a row of trees" private first class william taylor used to live near the missouri state line he says he knows a lot of people in missouri

tweets--all being made and sent out furiously this week in anticipation of former president bill clinton's visit to dubuque. it's clinton's first visit to the tri-states area since for hillary. nbc news reports this week that clinton holds a 17 point advantage over main rival vermont senator bernie sanders. but that doesn't mean the campaign isn't hard at work here in dubuque--still making numerous phone calls. (emma laurant, field organizer) "making sure that we're inviting everyone in dubuque that is planning on going to the caucus, not sure if they're going to the caucus, or people we're still hoping could turn out to go to the caucus." laurant believes clinton's visit to dubuque is significant for politics in general in the tri-states. of clinton's visit. they expect about 400 people to be here when the former president speaks." although that number may swell, as the hotel's general manager says they've been receiving a lot of calls. the actual event is scheduled for tomorrow at about five p-m about four fifteen. we've got you covered live from the t-h media newsroom in dubque, brad hanson, kwwl news. republican front runner donald trump will be coming back to eastern iowa. the donald all set to have a rally at the university of northern iowa west gym. we also spoke with kwwl political analyst chris larimer today on his thoughts about some of the candidates -- with the iowa caucuses now less than a month away. he sayys it's been quite the politcal season, to say the least. chris larimer- "i had one person describe it as a circus

accurate for the way it's been, bit." larimer says you can expect even the coming weeks. he says for many candidates, iowa is a do or die state.. continuing coverage -- police still have no leads after an iowa state university student was killed in a hit- and-run. the victim, emmalee jacobs was killed last month. officers say they've gotten nearly 60 tips but almost a month later, authorities are left with little information. they're hoping new leads come in during the new semester 'it makes it difficult when we dont have an eyewitness, we dont have a vehicle description' if you have any information about the case.. the vehicle or the driver involved.. call ames police or

have that info on our website kwwl dot com. an iowa man is convicted of possessing a firearm as a felon and crack cocaine with the distribute. 32-year-old marchello rembert, of waterloo, found guilty by a jury in federal court in cedar rapids. of last year and found 15 bags of crack cocaine in his front pocket. a loaded pistol was also found in his girlfriend's vehicle, which was later linked to rembert. he faces as many as 30 years in prison. a local fire department is undergoing training for ice and cold water rescues. the department used such training in real life situations, eight times last year. you can see cedar rapids firefighters here jumping into the icy water. they practice both saving themselves as well as playing the victim, and having others come to their rescue. the suits they are wearing are insulated so they don't get

it's an annual training that's very timely this week -- following the tragic loss of a hits home pretty well we had quite a few guys that went down and assisted with the drowning in johnson county so the importance is definetely there." fire crews cycled in to get their training throughout the day. cedar rapids firefighters will continue their training next week back at that same location, manhattan lake in ellis park. funeral services are set for a local teen who drowned after his canoe capsized. 17-year-old tanner wymer was in a canoe with his girlfriend's dad in the coralville resevoir at the time of the incident. services are set for january 9th at 10 a-m at st. mary's catholic church in his hometown of solon. visitation will be from three to seven p-m on friday at the

the main incident coming at one restaurant where nearly 100 people got sick. erika edwards has the story on the investigation into mexican grill - chipotle. the federal investigation is related to an incident at a chipotle restaurant in simi valley, california last august. that's when nearly 100 people became sick with norovirus -- a nasty stomach bug that spreads through contaminated food and water. from infected people. in a statement -- a chipotle spokesman said the company "will cooperate fully with this investigation." (nats) it's one of several outbreaks linked to the restaurant chain since last summer. investigators said tomatoes contaminated with salmonella made 64 customers sick in minnesota. then an e-coli outbreak that spanned nine states sickened 52 people. "i was terrified that i was going to go to bed and not wake up." the source of the e-coli least 140 people became ill after eating at a boston chipotle in another norovirus outbreak. "after so many people got sick after eating here, i'm not sure if i'm going to come back." c-e-o steve els apologized on the today show
