donald trump's name came up a few times... but not nearly as often as clinton's did during the republican debate. tracie potts, nbc news, washington. on the repbulican side-- marco rubio -- is back in eastern iowa today ... making stops in decorah, waverly and coralville throughout the day. democratic party leaders and activists in iowa are getting ready for the caucus night showdown. the iowa democratic party trained caucus volunteers yesterday in des moines. and this year the state parties are hoping... a smart phone app -- can help them be better organized. a person at each caucus site will enter the results into the app. those figures then go to party headquarters in des moines.

really excited and we've been a great partner and we are very confident in how everything has been going and we are very excited to see all work on caucus night." both parties will use the technology from microsoft. in a kwwl follow-up... we've learned the name of a man injured in an officer-involved shooting. the iowa division of criminal investigation says timothy seefeldt allegedly stole a hummer from a restaurant friday night around ten o-clock. a muscatine sheriff's deputy and a muscatine police officer stopped seefeldt, but say he tried to get away. officers fired several shots -- and the driver was eventually hit. he was taken to the hospital but is expected to recover. a missouri police officer shoots and kills a man inside a fast food restaurant. it happened sunday night in saint louis. authorities say the suspect, believed to be in his 50's, had just robbed a kentucky fried chicken.

after refusing to drop his gun. a utah police officer is dead and another injured after an exchange of gunfire following a car crash. investigators say two officers responded to a traffic accident when they saw a man and a woman walking away from the scene. as one of the officers approached the two, the man opened "there was an obvious exchange of gunfire, and when i round at officer barney, striking him in the head." the male suspect was killed. the other officer is listed in stable condition. no word on what led up to the crash. police say the woman is still on in davenport -- police investigate a bar fight that led to three people being hurt -- at least two of them were stabbed. it happened before 11 o-clock saturday night at the hawkeye tap. three people were taken to a fire rips through an eastern iowa business this weekend. here's video a viewer sent of the fire. the fire was reported at the

in strawberry point. kwwl's olivia mancino tells us the cold weather made it a tough battle for firefighters. f-2 storm blasted through the area --with winds of 132 miles-per-hour... "you don't realize how much power and impact that a tornado has until you until you see this. i mean it's pretty devastating." about 45 properties suffered more than three- million dollars in damage. more than 200- thousand people lost power. at least one person is dead after a pile-up that shut down a stretch of an interstate in michigan. police say 44 vehicles were involved in the wreck. 14 others were injured - including three people with life-threatening injuries. investigators believe snow was a factor.

tennessee is now a state-wide effort for law enforcement. the two-year-old boy wandered away from his grandmother and four-year-old sister while walking in the woods last week. thousands of volunteers and police officers have been searching around the clock... a spokesperson says they will discuss food safety changes that are being implemented in light of e-coli and salmonella outbreaks that left many people sick last year. a federal investigation into the outbreaks continues. the kindness of strangers gives comfort to a five- year-old girl... who's spent the last three months battling leukemia. marianne martinez shares the story. five year old elsa wiemerslage is about to start looks just like her. it was the work of complete strangers. according to the c-d-c....elderly people... babies...adults under the ifluence of alcohol and children left unattended are some of the most likely people to get hypothermia.... today is martin luther king junior day. the weather forced organizers to change plans over the weekend. many people showed up for the annual freedom march in d dbuque. organizers sent people inside to decided to meet the people out here, provide some nice hot beverage, hot chocolate inside...and we're just ushering people inside." inside prescott elementary school -- sixteen students were recognized for their tributes to doctor king. about 200 students turned in essays, poems and books for the contest. this morning, an iowa woman and her three children are being remembered.

morning in boone county. firefighters say the fire started in the back of the home. the family was using a space heater to keep pets warm. amber sorenson was 27 years old. riley sorenson was nine. autumn was six and brayden was four years old. they all died in the fire. crews say they had trouble fighting the fire -- because of hydrants, and drained a water tower. (weehauled water from miles away and hauling water from there." amber sorenson's husband was at work when the fire happened. a car crashes into a cedar fals nail salon. police say the driver was the salon owner's wife. since the business closed moments before the crash -- nobody was inside -- and nobody was

recovering after being seriously injured during a domestic disturbance call. it happened around three yesterday afternoon on sixth street south west. police say this man -- nathan brocks -- allegedly hit the officer. the officer then fell and hit his head. the officer was taken to the hospital. brocks was tased before he was taken into custody. he's in the linn county jail -- thisswas not the return they were hoping for. a space-x rocket launched a satellite -- but then -- the rocket's return was not a good the pacific -- but a support leg broke and it toppled over, bursting into flames. ice build up might have been the problem. six-year-old wants his allowance. his father says no -- and gives the boy a formal rejection letter. jason aubry tells us that letter in st. louis is now being seen by thousands of people. meet six-year-old auren nanos. recently he found he wanted new toy but didn't have us do - he sought a 20- dollar loan from dad's savings and loan. it's safe to say you care deeply for your clientele.
