with storm track 7 meteorologist for your complete weather stormtrack 7 weather team: areas of fog have formed this morning with visibilities dropping to less than a mile in several areas. skies cleared out, although there area a few tracking though our southernmost counties. temperatures are in the 40s to low 50s this morning... that's above normal, but 5 to 15 degrees cooler than this point yesterday morning. we is looking pretty good... i'll have that forecast for you in a few minutes. morning... we're learning more about the two iowa police officers killed while sitting in their patrol cars. sergeant tony beminio had been with the des moines police department since 2005. officer justin martin just joined the urbandale department last year. scott greene is accused of killing both officers the shootings happened within 20 minutes of each other early

chance to defend themselves. "from whait 've been told so far there was absolutely nothing started." "we had high expectations of his future and it's tragically been cut very short here." police say there's no indication anyone else was involved. the suspect turned himself in hours later. here's video of greene being taken to the hospital. officers say he wa flagged someone down and asked them to call 9-1-1. greene is no stranger to police in the des moines area. he's been arrested multiple times on various charges. most recently, he was removed from a high school football game in urbandale after - apparently - showing a confederate flag during the national anthem. greene posting this video online -- he claimed his constitutional rights were violated. also - he was charged with resisting arrest 2 years ago. two days later, he was accused of threatening to kill another

"saddened and shocked just hard to believe that urbandale iowa, that this happened, really senseless." a memorial also up at the scene where officer martin was killed in urbandale--- including a blue sign reading real heroes don't dubuque police say it was a tough day for their force. lieutenant scott baxter was shot in the line of duty seven years ago. he says what happened yesterday in central iowa hits too close to home. "it really resonates with me, defend myself. and i wish those officers that we just lost had that opportunity too, because i'm confident they would've won that battle had they been given the chance to fight it. so yeah, it hits home for all of

donations at the des moines police officers credit union. house speaker paul ryan and rod blum tweeted their condolences to the families of the victims. the two touring the cedar valley hospitality house in waterloo yesterday. they didn't specifically mention the shootings during their visit -- but instead -- they focused on blum's main campaign messages, like fighting poverty. in decision 2016 coverage... the latest bateg victory for hillary clinton... as both candidates hit the same battleground state today. tracie potts is in washington with the latest. we're following in eastern iowa. a preview of a key state senate race coming up. and next year is here. finally. cub fans all over eastern iowa celebrate late into the night as chicago wins the world series. good morning, i'm ally crutcher. words negate 108 are being heard this morning -- as the longest championship drought in american sports history is over. the cubs had not won a world series in 108 years. but they are now world series champs. check out the celebration outside wrigley field last night as the cubs beat cleveland in dramatic fashion -- 8-7 in extra innings. the crowd erupted. tens of thousands of fans pouring into the streets there. many other fans went to cleveland

of an iowa tragedy: two officers ambushed. police believe they know who did tragedy: two officers ambushed. police believe they know who did it -- and now they want to know why. des moines police sergeant tony beminio -- an iowa city native -- and urbandale officer justin martin were both shot dead in a surprise attack yesterday morning. they were shot as they sat in the patrol cars a few miles apart. they arrested him after nine blake mccoy has the latest on the investigation. with guns drawn -- officers canvassed the iowa neighborhood where two of their own had just been medics." police say it was 1:06am -- responding to a call of shots fired -- that they found urbandale police officer justin year on the job. 20 minutes later -- 2 miles away -- des moines sgt. tony beminio was found shot in his squad car. he died at the hospital. a husband and father. there definitely was no

to the attack. they were seated in their car and didn't have a chance to defend themselves. police moved quickly to identify 46 year-old scott michael greene as their suspect. he turned himself in hours later. greene is well known to police in the area -- posting a recent run-in with f high school football game for holding a confederate flag during the national anthem. "greene: i think i've been assaulted by you. you grabbed me. officer: i escorted you outside the stadium. greene: you grabbed me." greene lives here with his mother... who neighbors say was trying to evict him. "never thought it would come to this, that he was that unsettled (lady)." this year nationwide -- 115 officers have been killed in the

batton rouge. for those who knew these officers -- heartache. the men were just doing their job. it was senseless. a law enforcement source says greene has a history of mental health problems -- but investigators are still looking into a motive in this case. they don't believe there was any interaction at all between him and the officers. it's also unclear if either shooting was caught on a police camera. tributes and memorials are pouring in -- in honor of the two officers. flowers cover a police car at the urbandale police department. that's where officer justin martin worked. he was 24 years old. he'd been on the force since last year. never before has a law enforcement officer been killed in the line of duty the shooting in urbandale. a tarp covers the car officer martin was in. one of the people who brought flowers to the memorial in honor of officer martin says they felt

anymore. we mentioned that sergeant beminio grew up in iowa city. he was a standout athlete at iowa for the trojans, and also was an all- state lineman on the football team... "and you just kinda look and realize that he's touched a lot of lives and not just here but branching out into his law enforcement career. you can't even imagine how many lives he's touched." college in 2001. that school's wrestling team will wear blue socks to honor the officers at their meet tonight. we're seeing support for the officers families and co-workers in many different ways. here's one example. i can't even imagine this is the only way i know how to help and i want you guys to be hydrated and i want you guys to be able to go to you families

in law enforcement and they say this tragedy weighs heavily on everyone's minds. many people across eastern iowa have been reaching out and showing their support... just a few examples: clear creek amana middle school sent a basket of food to the johnson county sheriff's office... people gave the cedar county sheriff's office soup... another big thing you might see today are donuts with blue lines raise money for the victims in des moines and urbandale. live in waterloo... amanda gilbert... news 7 kwwl. we've also seen several pictures of police cars in eastern ioa that have flowers and ballons placed on them by people in the community.

condolences after the shootings. he says these were "shameful acts of violence." he says the two officers embodied the most decent human instinct: to put themselves in harms way for someone else. the time now is continuing coverage this morning: a three year old has died after a hayride accident. police say the little boy was riding on a trailer with no guard rails. he slipped off, and under the tires. it happened in maryland. today, opening arguments are set to begin in the murder trial of michael slager was an officer in south carolina last year when he shot and killed an unarmed man after a traffic stop. his attorney says there's more to it than what you see in cell phone video. they filed a motion to ask the judge to block the video from being introduced as evidence. slager faces 30 years to life in decision 2016 coverage: five days from election day -- so much attention is on the presidential race. but there are critical state elections we're keeping a close eye on. one of those for senate district 30 --

"i feel like i have a good want to be at home and receive the most therapies they can at home, and it's the most cost that's not the type of person iowans need... "we have to improve in iowa, and wen supports infrastructure improvements like new roads and bridges to help grow the economy. "but also, we need to work on a america but around the world, workplace, we'll be just fine." whereas sadler says the current tax code needs simplified to attract new business. "when people spend less on taxes, they have more money to spends, save and invest, it actually broadens the tax base and brings money in from

people will be talking about for years. now it wasn't easy. it never is. the cubs tormented fans one more time... almost letting this one get away. it all started with a bang for chicago. lead-off batter dexter fowler with a home run to dead center. that the first ever lead-off home run in the seventh game of the world series. cubs on the board first. lets anthony rizzo rifles one into pitch and watch him come all the way around to score. the cubs in control five-one -- but as cub fans -- you know, it's not that simple. bottom eight, cleveland down two. here's rajai davis against the cubs closer aroldis chapman. that's right off the camera. a two-run home run, and we are tied at six. progressive field is going bananas. we head to extra innings -- and then -- a rain delay.

we haven't heard of any major problems in chicago, but in iowa city a man enjoying the cubs win early this morning -- climbed a light pole -- and fell. paramedics took him to the hospital and at this point -- the fans look out for the cubs - just as the cubs look out for their fans. before game seven, the cubs tweeted a super- official excuse note for everyone. it asks for an excused absence from work, class or any other responsibility a chicago cubs' fan might have. it says - "we can not - fly the familiar with sports narratives ... well, it's kind of a big deal." next up for the cubs is the championship parade. millions of people were glued -- watching game seven last night... but there were other games going on. including this n- b-a game which produced a forgettable moment for the rockets sam dekker. the former wisconsin star is all alone on the fast break for
