the windshield of tractor trailers smashed by flying rocks and bricks. but one driver says he saw before his window shattered. and more wet weather headed our way. meteorologist kate bilo will tell when you the heaviest rain will fall and when it finally moves out. but first -- >> my teacher screamed fire and we all ran out. >> entire school is evacuated. all because of an iphone. what may have caused it to become too hot to handle. good evening everyone i'm ukee washington. >> eye i'm jessica dean. south jersey student was sitting in class when her phone became so hot it actually scorched through her notebook. the girl spoke only to our natasha brown about what happened. >> holding it just like this. and them once my tee which are started screaming, i drop it just like that. >> reporter: nicolette, is left with a searched notebook shattered nerves and pictures of a burned iphone six plus. >> she dropped her phone in class a few weeks ago and what

happened when she pick it up was anything but expected. >> it was kind of like jumping a little in my hand because like literally the entire screen came up and it was just everywhere like it sizzled. my entire classroom filled with smoke. >> reporter: the 17-year-old junior at cherry hill high school west dropped the phone on her notebook. you can still see the scorched pages. >> it burned through like 30 pages of my notebook. it was so hot. >> reporter: cherry hill fire department responded evacuating the school. they posted this image of the burned phone on their facebook page urging people to contact fire officials if this ever happens to their phone. tech experts we spoke with representing the wire cutter a product evaluation organization based in california tell us the lithium ion batteries used that niece devices are great for phones. they can hold a charge for lengthy periods of time. but they do admit these batteries can be volatile if they get ruptured if battery cells break are compromised in any way they say they can catch

gets the psychology behind it all coming up aid round 11:12. now new at 11:00 vandals strike from above. vehicles are damaged by bricks and debris thrown from a pennsylvania turnpike overpass. the projectiles crashed through the windshields of self tractor trailers near bristol oxford valley and left have it town bucks county tonight at least one person was injured. taw it was a close call for couple of other big rig drivers. >> all i seen was hands an bunch of rocks they just like through them over and they just came at me like it was raining rocks. i just had to hold on to the steering wheel as i drove. >> i was going along and i didn't really see the bricks coming but i heard a big crash and glass all over me all on my face and everything. kids don't realize they can kill somebody. hope the fellow that got hit ain't hurt too bad. >> police have not made any arrests so far. >> police are looking for the mandi picked in this sketch in connection with a road rage incident on the blue route. it involved a blue mitsubishi near west conshohocken.

police say someone in a dark blue lincoln town car fired a single shot through the front passenger door narrowly missing the driver. the shooter was last seen going northbound on the blue route toward conshohocken. he was wearing a dark colored flat brim baseball cap. some frightening moments for workers and drivers near a bridge in harrisburg. a parking lot located on a building near the mulberry street bridge collapsed today. eyewitnesses heard a very loud noise beforehand. unoccupied car also came down with the lot and landed on nearby tire shop. now, amazingly, no one was injured. the cause of that collapse is now under investigation. a new revelation in the penn state sex abuse scandal. according to the website penn, documents revealed that a judge says insurers in litigation with penn state claim a boy told joe paterno in 1976 that he had been molested by jerry sandusky. an attorney for the paterno family says there is no evidence to corroborate the new

disclosure. meanwhile a legal win for jerry sandusky in his request for a new trial. a judge today agreed to hold a hearing later this month to give sandusky's lawyers a chance to prove prosecutors acted inappropriately during sandusky's trial. sandusky who was con vicked of molesting 10 boys is currently serving a 30 to 60 year senten sentence. police in barnegat township suspended their search for escape prisoner. police no longer think arthur buckle is in the area. buckle was caught on surveillance video at a cvs store 9:30 yesterday morning. a truck they believe he stole was there as well. people will still see increased police presence in spots. >> the police department is going to have an officer at every single school again tomorrow. this is just purely a precautionary measure to ease ourselves back to normal will the. >> buckle escaped from minute numb security prison facility in winslow township on tuesday

morning. >> a woman accused of kidnapping a baby from the king of prussia mall in march appears in court for preliminary hearing. sherri amoore left the upper merion district court surrounded by family and her attorney. she's now free on a half million dollars bail for the marc march 31st kidnapping that was caught on camera. a judge dismissed her attorney's request to drop some of the felony charges against her. she is due back in court for another hearing on june 22nd. tonight authorities are sounding at alarm following a mainline theft. they say painter clifton wilson stole nearly $1 million from an elderly woman who hired him to paint her home in wilson town chester county. he is a cued of stealing stacks of checks belonging to the victim making them out tomium self and then forging her signature. >> he bought a porsche, a range rover he went on vacation to the bahamas. this was money that was spent to have a good time. >> this is a gentleman they went ahead and trusted, was working with them.

had no idea this was happening. >> prosecutors say wilson wrote 148 stolen checks over more than two years. campaign 2016, some of the biggest names in the republican party are raining on donald trump's parade now he is the presumptive gop nominee. today the speaker of the house paul ryan says he's not ready to support trump and the billionaire businessman must do more to unify the gop. in a statement, trump responded that he's not ready to support ryan' as jenn today in the house. trump held his first recall toll night since becoming the presumptive nominee. he was in karl tons west virginia. >> you've been hearing me say it's a rigged system now i don't say that any more because i wouldn't. okay? so now i don't care. i don't care. >> on the democratic side frontrunner hillary clinton campaigned in the delegate rich state of california. vermont senator bernie sanders focused his efforts in west virginia. he'll be in new jersey sunday and monday with rallies in news

bell. ♪ well there are new government regulations for e-cigarettes. the electronic devices will no longer be sold to anyone under 18 and hundreds of brands will now have to get fda approval. the move comes as e-cigarette use is on the rise among young people. sales of e-cigarettes soared to $3.5 billion last year but have slowed recently after questions about their safety. many of us rely on our smart phones for daily life but recent poll find one in two teens say they feel addicted to their mobile devices. >> that brings up a good question. is smart phone addiction an actual disorder? >> nicole brewer has two phones and the answer. >> look at you. >> i'm not distracted at all ukee and jess latest research focuses on teens but i think a lot of us feel the gravitational pull of our smart phones, sometimes two fold.

so is smart phone addiction a real disorder? it's a good question considering so many of us struggle to put down the phone. ♪ >> how often do you use your smart phone. >> all the time. >> 40, 50 times a day. >> first thing i look at in the morning and last thing at night. >> got a text right now. (laughter). >> for some smart phones are an extension of themselves. >> we need a third hand. >> i rely on it for everything. >> from maintaining personal relationships to completing professional tasks. >> e-mails. >> text messaging. >> it's also how many of us stay in the know. >> checking social media especially, the news. what's going on around the world. >> with that convenience comes compulsive behavior. >> how long can you go without looking at your phone. >> probably two minutes. >> the reaction is to picket. >> how say you're a dick to do your smart phone. >> absolutely. >> it's an add. >> is smart phone addiction a real disorder. >> the short answer is no.

>> temple university psychology professor says he won't find it in the diagnostic man because it doesn't meet the criteria. >> either you develop tolerance and whether you see withdrawal effects. >> i felt withdrawal many times. >> i couldn't have a phone for entire two days and i felt lost. >> i feel like i can diagnose you right here. >> we're not calling it an addiction but displaying some characteristics maybe of one. >> we do know that when people use their smart phones when they get let's say instagram like that this causes activation in the same parts of the brain that are where rewards are processe d and same parts of the brain company operated during adds diction. >> should we be worried. >> throughout literally all of human history there are concerns about new technologist ands we adjust, accommodate and think of our technologists as something good. >> the doctor says more research needs to be done before it can be classified as a disorder in this country but the south

sunset and we won't be seeing it again until saturday. center city not looking too bad right now. storm scan3 is quiet for the moment. any showers drifting off to the west. which is strange usually we see showers and rain come in from west to east. we have a prevailing westerly wind in this country in the northern hemisphere certainly and we've got this is all drifting to the west. you can see it's all rotating around upper low that's off to the south. producing pretty significant rainfall across portions of the virginia and into north caroli carolina. this is all pivoting northward as we get into tomorrow and this shield of rain you see here will be upon us friday morning into the early part of the afternoon at least. in the meantime it's still chilly we only got to the 50's today. temps right now across the live neighborhood network still only in the low 50s. make sure you have the rain gear outside a lot of folks asking me why is the weather like this for so long. it's actually because we've flipped things around. a few week ago it was season knee for days upon days. we were in the good side of what we call an omega block like the greek letter owe may g when

you're under the high pressure things aren't moving you guess days and days of sunshine, nice warm weather. when you're on either end, though, stuck under prevailing low pressure for days and days and that's where we've been and we'll continue to be through saturday but the heaviest rain comes in tomorrow. so you can see by 9am we've got pretty steady pockets of rain coming down. it continues right through the lunch hour and then starts to lift out and even we're under the influence of that low still on saturday, you can see saturday just a brief sprinkle and then bee afternoon, look at that. clouds start to break up, we may see some sunshine. that will help temperatures warm um. so for midnight to 8:00 a.m. a straight shower. eight to three the instead yesterday rain on friday it tapers to scattered showers later friday evening most of the rain falls during the work day or school day tomorrow. overnight cloudy cool with showers around 49 degrees. friday periods of rain, cloudy, chilly, 56. the only thing it's got going for it it's friday as we head into the weekend things get better. race for the cure sunday morning i'm on the optimistic may be a shower early it tries to clear
