this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news" this morning. fire rips through several row homes in allentown. we're live with the latest on the investigation and the residents forced into the street. >> and a new lead in the center city explosive package. why police believe this person is connected to the homemade bomb. and turning cooler as we rounds the the week. katie is tracking just how chilly the first weekend of december will be. >> today is friday, december the second, good morning, i am jim is off. i'm jan carabeo. >> i'm greg argos. getting our day started with a check of traffic and weather together with katie and meisha. >> the minute you said friday, dose of caffeine, hello. >> wake right up? >> friday, yes, we're awake. roadways are looking good. only thing we're dealing with
right now is a ton of construction, so much so, we'll never have time to get to it all but we'll do our best, everyone is wondering, katie, wet roadways? >> they've been done for hours now, you don't have to worry about that at all this weekend there. eventually be rain, builds eggs way back in here. you do have the winds, how much, it will be a running theme of the forecast here today. at the moment, storm scan is nice, empty, nothing more than couple of clouds here and there. generally, again, nice clear sky, what that has done is allowed us to really chill out through the overnight without a blanket of cloud cover, even though it wasn't terribly mild by the second half of yesterday. any heat we manage to build up it will get lost back up to the atmosphere. see lake enhanced very fine flurries flying across north central and northeast most pennsylvania, i don't think that will affect us at all. thirty-three the current temperature, chilly start to the morning here guys specially factor in a breeze, 41 at the airport, so around the region as a whole talking
30's this morning, since the sun has yet to come up for several more hours, certainly going to lose probably few more degrees on the thermometer reading. once it does, it shines brightly all day. granted again up in the mountains, do have lake enhanced moisture still to work with, probably see few more clouds the further north and west you travel, but it is at least a dry day, meisha. but you got to keep that in mind, that breeze will affect us. >> you know absolutely. it was chill think morning, i actually had sweater and winter coat, katie. yes it, will feel little colder today. good morning and happy friday indeed. so let's talk about this construction, we will be talking about it a lot this morning, nine at southbound at the betsy ross bridge, two right lanes still blocked. you can still early, still dark out, not slowing you down too much. just couple of your friends out there. overall it will start to as we progress through the 5:00 hour. the vine closed overnight, still is, westbound side, eastbound side, still closed between the schuylkill and broad. that's one area that we are getting kind of used to, heads up on this, just chatting
about this. the fire, row home fire, what we have is the road closed, fulton street between union and elm street. closure, means a lot of flashing lights. that will will absolutely slow you down. good news it is not blocking any majors. that's the good news, how much, you just want to make note of t a lot of construction pa turnpike past downingtown, right lane blocked, a lot more construction on the pa turnpike coming up in about 15 minute, greg, jan, over to you. >> an investigation is underway this morning, to what started a huge fire in allentown last night. >> the flames ripped through several homes, leaving some residents with no place to stay. "eyewitness news" reporter trang do, live there, in allentown this morning with the latest on the fire, trang, what do we know? >> reporter: good morning, jan, greg, this fire so massive, firefighters still here on scene checking out hot spots, from nine hours after it started. take a look, fire here, mostly out, you can see, the row of heavily damaged row homes particularly the ones there in the middle. now, firefighters do expect to
remain out here until at least dawn. the most important thing, though, is that everyone got out safely. now, take a look at these massive flames, captured by chopper three overnight. the fire started just before 8:00 p.m. at home on the 400 block of fulton street allentown, quickly spread to five other homes on the block. at one point every firetruck in the city was used to fight this fire as it rose to three alarms. in dicks to the homes damaged by fire, two other homes sustained smoke and water damage here on this block. now, in all, 23 people are displaced from this fire. the red cross is helping with food and shelter, tonight, but at this moment the firefighters still don't know the cause but for now live in allentown, trang do, cbs-3, "eyewitness news", back to you guys. >> trang, thank if you. fire officials say one man dead following fire last night in west philadelphia. chopper three over the 300 block of 64th street. fire crews there arrive to large flames coming from the second floor row home. the fire broke out around 8:30, and crews put it out
within an hour, we're told 44 year old man was found dead inside. the cause of the fire remains under investigation. and, more sad news this morning following fatal fire in wilmington, from back in september. a third firefighter has died from her injuries. artist hope badly burned while trying to put out the fire on lakeview road. died when the floor clapped and trapped in the burning hold. daughter of the homeowner accused of setting this fire, already charged with two count of murder. >> major break in the investigation into a package explosion in center city. >> take a look at this picture, police want to talk to this person who they say is key to answering questions surrounding a bombing that injured a six year old -- 06 year old man. person seen in the video likely airasia manhattan or woman this their late teens to late 20's dropped offhand made bomb in a envelope to the home of jim aldan early last week. philadelphia police say aldan does not recognize the person on tape and does not know why
he was specifically targeted. >> do not have a motive right now to speak of. that's one of the challenges we're dealing with. >> police say it is possible the person they are looking for have just delivered the package, and someone else could have made it. there is a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect. this morning, overbrook man charged with homicide by vehicle in the death of eight year old jayanna paul. paul woodlynn borrowed the car. she walk home from school on november 18th. police arrested him wednesday night after investigators found the heavily damaged karat a body shop in frazier chester county. >> this little girl lost her life. he didn't even bother to stop. >> i think it is just horrible what he did, it was irresponsible and careless. node regard for human life. >> city officials offering $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the deadly hit-and-run driver. the fraternal order of police
contributed $15,000 for the anonymous tip call. >> this person who receives that will have a nice christmas. >> reward mondayly got tone over of the a & p auto body shop. contacted authorities when car matched the description matching police was brought in for repair. >> police chase crash in west philadelphia. carol dived when driver trying to escape police slammed into her karat 52nd and locust, this all happened as police chased two brother wanted in connection to a shooting earlier in the night. commissioner richard ross says the police pursuit is under investigation. officers arresting both brother. >> and the football world is mourning the death of a former nfl player killed in a road rage incident in louisianna. mcknight shot dead by 54 year old ronald gas tore yesterday following aarpment at intersection at new orleans suburb, 28 year old played for the new york jets, and the

back now on "eyewitness news", death toll continues to rise in tennessee following the largest wild fire to hit that state in 100 years. at least 11 people have died, and there are still others unaccounted for. the inferno destroyed or damaged hundreds of homes in the resort towns of gatlintb. rg. >> buzz aldren, evacuated while falling ill on vacation. this is video of him leaving, arriving, air lifted there from antartica because he had fluid in his lungs. aldren stayed overnight in the hospital. but his manager said he's in good spirits, he was visiting

a month when it comes to seasonable averages on any given day. that said, let's look at storm scan3. okay, so, we still had storm system actually retreating yesterday. there is still some wrap around moisture helping to produce lake enhanced snow showers, and rain showers here and there. i don't think do you have worry about that here, probably end up with couple of additional clouds, across the poconos, even more northwest suburbs specially, rest of us, it is fun. the only sort of xfactor today still what we will find in the way every wind. still pretty breezy outside. so right now, it is not necessarily a really strong wind, at worse, it is about ten to maybe 12, 13 miles per hour, in any given spot of this slew of observations. what it feels like right now, more like the 30's, the 20's, so, you will want to bundle up adequately here. bottom line, you will want to have the heavy winter coat today, pair of sunglasses, no umbrellas required, but the sun will shine all afternoon, we hit very typical 51 degrees

alternate best one is 15th street to get around that. good news, one of the majors, pulled off to more sides, but just heads up if you are in that area. also, a lot of construction on the pa turnpike, pa turnpike past downingtown, right lane blocking that area. another place on the pa turnpike eastbound, between willow grove and bensalem, that one is pulled all the way off to the shoulder. northeast extension northbound between mid-county and quakertown, the right lane is blocked there. so you can see, a lot going on on the pa turnpike, here as well. northeast extension northbound between quakertown and lehigh valley, right lane blocked as well. talking about this construction basically the entire morning, but just heads up. also, talking about this one, 95 northbound, coming up in a little bit. jan, back over to you. >> meisha, thank you. president obama and his family lit the national christmas tree for the final time outside the white house last night. >> three, two, one. >> (cheers). >> the president encouraging americans to care for the sick and the hungry this holiday season.

added 174,000 jobs, and that the unemployment rate held steady at 4.9%. this is the last big economic report before the fed meets this month, and strong job growth facing more likely the fed will decide the economy can handle an interest rate hike. greg, jan? >> jill, starbucks shares are falling on word howard shultz is stepping down as ceo. so who exactly taking over at the coffee chain? >> okay, well, shultz joined starbucks more than 30 years ago, and transformed the coffee chain into global brand. he'll become executive chairman in april. and focus on social activities, starbucks coo, kevin johnson, will take over as chief executive. he is spent more than decade working in the tech world, and we'll see how investors react today. but, shultz says that johnson is more than qualified to take over. greg, jan? >> just as long as i still have my grand carmel mack at owe. >> thank you, jill.

doesn't the city shine just a little brighter when it is friday? is it just me well, good morning, everybody, happy friday to you. a chill in the air for sure. we did just have a very large, very expansive storm system it, took up millions of folks' real estate here when it rolled through bringing with it a lot of rain here, and thankfully that now is long gone. finding ourselves kind of trapped in a pressure gradient situation, in short, that means, you're still going to find a very noticeable breeze out there. and that even lasts us into tomorrow. at least storm scan is quiet. let's focus more so on this xfactor, as i like to called it, the winds you will continue to notice throughout today, tomorrow, tomorrow. even tomorrow, there could be some gusts to up 25 miles per hour. but, you know, overall there is isn't a bad forecast, as long as you don't mind a little wind, we are going to have a chill in the air. but sunshine to go along with this. so, now that all of the leaves have actually had chance to dry out, probably blowing
everywhere here today, tomorrow specially, but if you have outdoor plans, cutting the tree down, doing decorating i think looking good here. temperatures are going to start to rebound overnight sunday into monday, might even be shower with minor disturbance, but tuesday at this point looks like the much more likely day, that we end up with not just rain, but possibly some soaking rain. so, there is a little stretch of time here where you don't have to break out the umbrella, but can't necessarily pack it away just yet either. temperatures meantime, they should be right around 50. that's where we will fall for the most part here, meisha. >> sunshine on a friday, 06 degrees -- 50 degrees, i think we can survive that, specially after all of the rain we've been having and our busy commute because of the rain. right now speaking of, roadways, nice and dry. good morning, everyone, they are leaking good. so, moving in the westbound and eastbound side, you can see, it is now opening, the vine was closed overnight between the schuylkill and broad. and now that it is opening, we are looking good, looking quiet as we typically do on friday morning, usually friday's tend to be one of the lighter travel days, that being said, a lot of construction out there. one of the areas, water and sewer repairs in princeton, new jersey, state road at

is another thing. weather looking good. >> construction, i know, and the one thing we don't want to have to deal with, it is on a friday because we're so excited to start the weekend. yes, a lot of construction out there, but katie thank you so much today we have very dry roadways for the first time i feel like in a long time we'll get some relief. >> feels like it, right? at least we were drying out through the course of yesterday, so you do not have to worry about any kind of weather-related impact in terms every wet weather today. there is a breeze noticeable out there. you are not talking about anything super strong, but enough that you notice it, and specially because, okay, we're in december. you know, you will need that winter coat. you will need to hug it probably little tighter today. just because with the winds into the teens, possibly even gusts into the 20's today, it will feel chilly. now, luckily storm scan is nice and quiet as we mentioned. don't have to worry about wet weather for many days at least for now. you can, how much, see little hint of wrap around moisture, in other words, some lake enhanced light flurries currently flying
