woman, and a south philadelphia grocery store. officers say, marie buck's grandson may be the reason she was gun down. good evening, i'm jessica dean. ukee washington is off tonight. >> a live look now at the baldy funeral home in south philadelphia where family and friends are gathering for a viewing for marie buck. we go live to "eyewitness news" reporter greg argos, who is at police headquarters, where officers announce those charges and developments today. >> jest, a right now, police say the shooter is behind bars, 31 maurice green charged with murder, i should say, for shooting 81 year old marie buck, some 11 times in the chest. investigators tell me tonight, this all may have stemmed over the alleged theft, get this, of a piece of jewelry. >> marie bun owns the grocer, and within second, christmas eve morning, the 81 year old
life taken in a birrage of bullet. >> open up the door, never fully even was one step inside of the store, and he fired multiple times, striking her 11 times in the chest. >> police say the suspect 31 year old mouse east green, career criminal with 15 charges to his name. mostly drug-related homicide captain said green was upset with the elderly victim's grandson, who allegedly stole piece of jewelry worth between five and $10,000. >> the grandson actually was supposed to be work that morning, so we think with the intention every killing the grandson, he opened the door, he saw the grandmother, and at that point he made the choice that he was going to kill the grandmother since he was not there. >> growing memorial on the steps of the store. buck lived next-door to it her entire life and was loved in the community, friends glad there was at least the beginning of closure with a grieving family. >> i hope so. i really hope so.
>> green says this year not cooperate willing. police have not yet recovered a murder weapon, even so, seth williams is confident with the case. >> sufficient evidence to hold him, we believe we have sufficient evidence to prove him guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. >> one of the more horrific murders i've dealt with in nine years, 81 year old grandmother, defenseless, who is beloved by the community, and to be killed in this manner is just horrific. it is very sad. but we are very happen that i we were able to put this to a close in a very short time period. >> marie buck's viewing social security held at a funeral home in south philadelphia, where hundreds are expected, her funeral mass set for tomorrow afternoon. we're live here at police headquarters, i'm greg argos, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> all right, greg, thank you. we're learning more tonight about the ordeal of south jersey woman and her great granddaughter, missing since christmas eve. they're recovering now after being found yesterday in a
rural area of virginia. "eyewitness news" new jersey reporter cleve bryan is live in mays landing tonight with more. >> they're still in virginia, as 71 year old barbara recovers, no christmas lights, the family did not celebrate a holiday because of this ordeal, facebook today, they said they've plenty -- plenty of evening to rejoice. >> giving huge sigh of relief after learning 71 year old barbara and her five year old great granddaughter are okay. >> we were all worried, you know, so we were hoping that they were okay, and we're glad that they are okay. >> the briley's disappearance lasted almost four days, left jersey to see family in north carolina they stopped for directions at a gas station about 30 miles north of richmond. around 8:00 p.m., family last heard from barbara saying she was stuck in traffic, all calls from then on went to
voice mail. 1:30 christmas morning, 45 miles south of richmond. monday through wednesday family and authority searched along interstates 59 and 85, around 5:00 p.m. wednesday, the search ended, when this man, who didn't want to show his face on tv, reported finding the briley's up at dirt road on private property in rural continuewitty county virginia. >> grandmother was obviously in trouble of some sort. she was moving. >> barbara flown to the hospital, now recovering. officials say they survived on smacks, and juice boxes, the man who found them says w tv r little la myra was sweet. >> when i toll them i had to come up to share the ambulance, because they didn't know where this was, she didn't, she asked me not to go, and i promised her that i would come back. >> they hope to find out in the next to you days as
barbara briley recovers how exactly she got so lost. in mays landing, cleve bryan, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> very relieved family, clever, thanks so much. a damp and dreary start to our thursday. some people even saw little snow. but it is clearing out now. meteorologist, kate bilo, live at cooper river park with some ice skating and first look at your forecast. kate? >> that's right, jessica. tell you what, it is clear, and crisp, and cold out here right now, but no precipitation, the rain is out of here, they've actually just cleared the ice here at the cooper river park, because we're going to get some of the pro skaters out here, they've got an actual ice show every night at 7:00. and they're going to show us one of their routines coming up at about 6:15, make sure to stay tuned for that. meantime, let's talk about the weather. we had the storm earlier today. it has now cleared the area producing rain and snow over portions every new england, but you can see locally everything is quiet. maybe a stray flurry or stray snow shower tonight or tomorrow. that's about it.
>> poconos did pretty well, toby hanna 5 inches, lake harmony four and a half, lehighton in with 2 inches, allentown a slushy inch of snow. then gilbertsville at .3. but temperatures definately taking a hit, now that that front is through. it is a reinforcing shot of cold air. down to 38 degrees in reading, 43 in philadelphia, 43 atlantic city. i can tell if you feels whole lot colder than 43 out here in pennsauken, that's mainly because of the winds. winds is making it feel about 10 degrees colder. we've got winds now, ten, to 20 miles an hour, and they're only going to get worse as we head into the day tomorrow. so coming up we will bring you live sneak peak of the ice show here at cooper river park. i do want to tell you about the threat for little bit of ice. not the kinds on the rink the kinds on the roads, i'll explain coming up. >> kate, see you in a bit, thank you. new jersey state trooper with a brain tumor attributed to working at ground zero in the aftermath of 9/11 has died. lieutenant bill fewer and diagnosed when malignant brain
tumor in may of 2015. days after his diagnosis he underwent surgery and aggressively fought the tumor in the years that followed. lieutenant served 22 years with the state police. >> come new years day, new tobacco regulation also go into effect in philadelphia. the city will no longer issue permits to new tobacco retailers who are located within two blocks of any school. retailers will also face a 12 month sales suspension if they receive three violations over two years. the city's health commissioner says the stronger measures aim to keep cigarettes out of the hands of minors. >> most people who start smoking start smoke whg they're children. so it is particularly important for us to protect children from this casino every marketing f children go into stores every day to buy a pack of gum, or carton every milk and they're seeing cigarettes, and advertising cigarettes, more likely to pick up smoking when they have an opportunity to buy those cigarettes. so this is about protecting children from that marketing of the tobacco industry.
>> the new regulation was approved by the philadelphia board of health, december 8th. surveillance video captures the robbery of metro pcs store on north broad street. philadelphia police say these are the men responsible. the video from a business next-door captured the moment before the men decided to rob the store. the clerk told police, they entered the business twice before they demanded cash from the register. officers say the men got away in a blue and silver chevy astro van. anyone with information is asked to call police. >> upper merion township police have identified a man wanted for robbing another man at gunpoint earlier this month. investigators say, 25 year old jamal goodwyn confessed to the robbery in the dekalb pike in king of prussia. goodwyn was charged with robbery. aggravated assault and related charges. he's being held in chester county prison on unrelated charges. whether we come back tonight, an important recall that drivers need to know about. the honda models that are

models may not lock in the event of a crash. now, parts to fix this problem won't be available to car owners until the spring. so far no injuries have been reported. >> well, you know, new years eve is quickly approaching a lot of people getting ready for an end of the year party, a little celebration over the weekend. what's a party without some food? joining us now, from the de bruno brothers in rittenhouse square, emile yo, the vice president of culinary pioneering, i love that title. thanks for being with us. >> thank you, pleasure to be with you. >> so obviously the holidays are wonderful time for food. is this your busiest time of year? >> oh, yes. the last two weeks of the year for sure. you know, actually from thanksgiving right on through. just mayhem. like one long day. >> one long day from thanksgiving all the way to like january 2nd for you. so how far in advance are people putting in these orders? what are they talking to you about?
what are they wanting? >> well, i tell you, so those who really have their stuff together, maybe week or so prior to new years. and because they've already figured out their christmas, right? but right now, like this week, right after christmas, they start up. it will be, you know, phonecalls on, you know, the 26th, all day, 26th, 27th, everybody just asking what's great, what's just come in for the holiday, what should we buy. you know, how do we celebrate. >> so what's generally your answer to that? how do you celebrate new years with the right food? >> well, so, as de bruno brother we always have the right food, doesn't matter holiday time or not. but specially this time of year, when you know we have reason to celebrate, then we break out the caviar, weaver a huge selection of really fantastic caviar that we sell from the, you know, the domestic, to the imported russian caviar, we have smoked salmon, scottish smoked salmon, really great cheeses
from around the world, you know, we kick it up this time of year. so, you know, throughout the year we sell real traditional triple cream cheese, but now we have some special stuff, from very small producer, rudolph, kind of like eating butter. >> that sounds -- >> you know with calf year and smoke salmon and you're living. >> that sounds fantastic, i think everybody is getting hungry now. when it comes to the cheese, i know you guys of course so well known for your cheese. what's your favorite cheese for this time of year? >> well, like i said, because we're celebrating, drinking a lot of sparkling wine, champagne, you know, prosecco, triple cream. we have the special with black truffles in it, then it goes into the firm cheese, like age guda is always popular, because people love it, one of the house specialties, and then, you know, very special
parmesian reggiana. so we look very unique at the cheese makers specially this time of year. >> well, you have successfully made us all hungry, we're all ready to celebrate to 17. thanks so much for being with us. >> well, it is my pleasure. it is our job. >> all right, take care. see you soon. >> well taking a look at the weather out there, not the most pleasant start to the day. but we're skating along right now. the rink at cooper river park is the place to be. that's where meteorologist, kate bilo is skating along tonight. kate? >> reporter: thank you, jessica. yes, it has turned out to be beautiful night if you don't mind winter chill in the air. for the end of december, this is perfection. but, i will tell you about something real special they have going on every night through new years eve here. professional ice show, and the skaters are on the ice behind me. they're doing a little sneak preview what you can see if you come out at 7:00. i want to bring in alex, the founder and producer of the company that does these ice
shows, former first skater yourself. tell us a little bit what people can see if they come out to one of your shows. >> this show this year is new age exciting twist on winter with big tricks, back flips, triple jumps, anything you can imagine. pretty cool. >> you guys are worlds wide. not just here. you travel all over. tell us about some places you've been? >> we actually currently have a show running in dubai, we've done the caribbean, done florida, done all over. really fun. >> fantastic. these guys are great. and you can come out, you're only here, been here since what the beginning of december? >> since november 25th. we're here until new years eve. we have a show tonight at 7:00. tomorrow at 7:00. and new years eve at 6:00 p.m. >> okay, so, tonight at 7:00 many. you can still come out for that one if you are nearby. preview what you can see, tomorrow night at 7:00. then new years eve at 6:00 great thing for people to come in before they ring in the new years celebration. >> pretty epic show. everybody loves it. >> fantastic, thanks for being us, and these guys are great. we will take quicker look at them action as they finish up
their routine, also talk a little bit about the weather. and by the way, the rink itself is open through valentine day. this show only here through near years eve. make sure to come out and see it, these guys are amazing, peaking at the weather, no the quite amazing, i don't know if i would describe it that way, but definitely better than it was, quiet conditions we look live at the palmyra cove nature park camera. storm scan3, also, is quiet. skies have cleared, everything looking good outside right now. just stray snow showers possible. as we head through the day tomorrow. but the winds are picking up. the temperatures are dropping. as our storm moves out, boston getting creamed with heavy rain right now, with heavy mountain snow to the north and west. good for those ski resorts in new england, as well. temperatures right now, 43 in philly, 38 degrees in reading, 38 in allentown, but temperatures dropping below freezing, very quickly tonight, and i can tell you there are a loft puddles out here, on the parking lot, on the roads, now, the winds are helping to dry things out. as these colder temps move in, we are going to see some icy
spots develop on the roads. so any standing water could refreeze, may be icy spots overnight or tomorrow morning. just watch out for that as you head out the door. otherwise, the winds is picking up. again that's helping dry some of those puddles out. but winds tonight gust to go 25 miles per hour. tomorrow gusts to 35 miles an hour. so chasing those trash can lids down the street. if you still have the blow up figures in your yard, watch out for the winds tomorrow. overnight 29 degrees, partly cloudy, cold and blustery, tomorrow is cold and windy as well at 39 degrees. we won't even break the 40 degrees mark, but better weather on the way for the upcoming new years weekend, here's your eyewitness weather seven day forecast, in the 40's, both saturday and sunday, good weather to ring in the new year, nice weather for the eagles game, milder next week. the threat for rain returns next monday and tuesdayment back here live, skate remembers still going. really kinds of getting their warm up in before the big show happens at 7:00 tonight. so come on out. see the show. the rink itself is open until
