thanks for joining us today. 12 soldiers from ft. hood were swept away in surging floods when their 2 1/2 ton army truck overturned in high water. at least five died, three were rescued and hospitalized. four remain unaccounted for at this hour as the search continues on air and on foot. the army division's commander major general said the first cavalry division is grieving. greg abbott said that texas stands ready to provide any assistance to ft. hood as they deal with this tragedy. the brave men and women stationed at ft. hood and across our country put their lives on the line every day. rain dropped in six inches causing the flash floods. violent protesters overshadowed another trump event last night. this time, in san jose, california. hundreds of anti-trump protesters took to the streets as trump held a rally there.

some were shove and egged by protesters. and badly beaten. john podesta plassed the violence saying that attacking over political disagrees has no place in the election. san jose police say that one officer was assaulted and a few arrests made. while that happened outside, trump was railing against hillary clinton inside. >> the only reason she's behaving like this and the only reason she's been dragged so far left, believe me, she doesn't want to go to jail over the e-mails, okay? believe me. that's the only reason. >> his comments were in response to clinton's so-called foreign policy speech. andrea mitchell has details. >> reporter: it was a 33 minute takedown of donald trump. >> donald trump's ideas aren't just different. they are dangerously incoherent. they're not even really ideas. just a series of bizarre rants, personal feuds and outright lies.

now defunct trump university. all of this came on the same day house speaker paul ryan threw his support behind trump, telling the associated press he would be voting for him in the fall. >> it's very clear to me that hillary clinton is in no certain way going to be advancing our principles and policies. she's promising another obama term. and it's also become clear to me through my conversations that donald trump is somebody i know is comfortable with these principles and these general policies. >> "the washington post" responded to the endorsement calling it a sad day for the gop and america. boxing legend muhammad ali has been hospitalized with a respiratory issue. the 74-year-old who suffers from parkinson's disease is in fair condition. he's expected to stay in the hospital for only a brief time. however, the associated press cites two people familiar with his condition, it may be more

serious than his previous hospital stays. they do not speak on behalf of the family and they asked not to be identified. he had a severe urinary tract infection, and he was last seen back in april. boxing great sugar ray leonard tweeted prayers and blessings to my friend. military officials are investigating two military jet crashes involving elite pilots in two different states. one a thunderbird that had just flown over a graduation attended by president obama. the other one of the navy's blue angels. nbc's miguel almaguer has details. >> dismissed! >> reporter: the thunder birds had soared over the air force academy's graduation. president obama among the dignitaries. watching as the cadets tossed their caps. but then one of the six jets goes down, dropping out of the clear blue sky in colorado

that prince died from an overdose of the powerful pain killer fentanyl. it is unclear where the musician got the drug or how long he was taking it. a source tells nbc news at the time of his death, prince was being treated for opioid withdrawal, anemia and fatigue. it's a synthetic opioid, 100 times more potent than morphine. it is used to treat advanced can certain. it is more dangerous than heroin. some 700 deaths were tied to fentanyl. according to one medical journal as little as a quarter milligram of this drug can be fatal. former colorado governor schwarzenegger schwarzenegger goes face to face with a wild elephant. plus, a courtroom erupts as the dad attacks the killer of his daughter. that's just the beginning. back in three. hey there, hi.

new round of thunderstorms yesterday and -- well, they were lucky to survive driving across raging rapids like that. this truck got pushed up against the trees. the people did survive. listen to what happened next. >> get out! get out! get out! >> get out! >> dramatic scenes there. if you can't see the road, don't cross it. well, in texas we still have flash flood watches in much of the state. we have rain over the state, but thankfully the thunderstorms are out over the gulf this morning. some of that will move over areas of southeast texas. but we're not watching it like yesterday, it won't be quite as bad. san antonio and dallas shouldn't be as bad. austin also. but watch out from houston to corp corpus christi, the river flooding will continue into next week. additional rainfall amounts and

pink and purple in southeast texas, another one to two inches of rainfall on top of saturated soil. that's why we have a flash flood threat and that heads to the east coast as the storm leaves us in the middle of the country. so for today, more texas rain, a few severe storms in the midwest. hot in the west and in the southeast. by the time we get to saturday, thunderstorms continue to plague us throughout this region. then finally, all the wet weather moves to the east coast on sunday. dry it out in texas and in the middle of the country, but it will be a washout in the mid-atlantic and northeast on sunday. plan your weekend accordingly as this storm is finally on the move. >> thank you so much for that. well, a bizarre note left behind by the ucla gunman asking for someone to check on his cat in minnesota led police to stunning revelations. authorities raiding his home found a kill list. on that list, william klug, the professor he killed. another ucla professor's name as well. he was later found safe.

and i teach a course on decision making. donald trump would flunk my course. meanwhile, trump doubled down on his attacks on the district judge presiding over his trump university case telling the "wall street journal" the judge has a quote, absolute conflict in presiding over the case, given that he is of mexican heritage. he says because he's quote building a wall it's an inheerntss conflict -- inherent conflict of interest. the statement said, trump continues to inject divisive politics into the contest and now it had bled over into his legal troubles. the case will be heard following the 2016 general election. and then there's bernie sanders who's moving full steam ahead tone tuesday's -- into tuesday's primary and he's enlisted the help of singer dave matthews. finally while evens jonah ryan may be the most obnoxious on television, he comes with his own website.

nominee. i can't imagine them going away in cleveland. >> kind of scary to think what cleveland might look given the protests we have seen so far. especially if it continues to build. well, the foreign policy speech focused on going after trump, with stinging one liners. is this the most effective attack? >> i think this is an effective attack for clinton. this something that democrats have been pushing her to do for a while. we have seen her surrogates going after trump, saying he wasn't qualified. hit him on trump university. her she was in a place that she's very strong. foreign policy is something that clinton does well with. she was contrasting her experience with donald trump and came after him in the harshest light we have seen yet. i think it was very effective. >> well, you mentioned trump university. after all the allegations, trump says he wants to reopen the school because quote, there's so much interest in it. is this a businessman who will try to capitalize on any kind of
