wrightstown and 61 in belmar to start your day. 87 later on today. another warm day but changes are coming. we'll talk about that in your accuweather weekend forecast. heather's looking at your commute. happy friday. >> happy friday to you. let's go to our mass transit chart. everything is running on or close to schedule. catch long island railroad, metro north, new jersey transit trains, 6 trains we had sill problems at morrison avenue. they have been repaired. the 1 trains this weekend starting at 11:30 tonight lasting until monday morning at 5 a.m., there will be no service and that is for track work. 280 westbound near exit 15 in newark, that's an accident still being cleared away, and then we had this problem over here as you travel south near webster avenue, that police activity cleared. alternate side of the street parking rules are in effect. thank you so much heather. 6:01, we begin with breaking news in the bronx. a cab ride ends with a passenger struck and killed by
a city bus. the young man was getting out of a livery cab on kings bridge avenue but didn't see there was a bus approaching at the time. eyewitness news reporter marcus solis is live in the kings bridge section. with new information he just got for us. what do we know? >> reporter: this was a 23-year- old man who had just left a club in inwood, a night of partying ends in tragedy as he is struck by a bus. you can see the two vehicles involved behind me here. we are at west 231st street and kings bridge avenue. the victim was a passenger in that livery cab along with a friend. they were about to reach their destination, but the victim was starting to get sick and had opened the rear door to vomit outside of the cab and was leaning out of the cab. the bus happened to be passing by at that time, tried to veer out of the way, but could not and struck the victim who was pronounced dead at the scene. that bus a bx1 pulled over. the driver of the cab, the
driver of the bus both questioned by police as they reconstruct this accident that took place around 3 this morning. the identity of the victim has not yet been released but friends of the victim are in shock. >> a good person, no problems, no trouble. i don't understand why something like this would happen to people like that. i don't get it. >> and, again, the investigation continues. no charges filed in this fatal freak accident that claimed the life of a 23-year-old man. we're live in the kings bridge section of the bronx, marcus solis channel 7 eyewitness news. the reward to catch a killer is up. the nypd offering $22,500 to get the person who shot carey gabay. gabay's family removed him from life support this week. doctors had declared him brain dead nine days after he was shot in the head before the west indian american day parade in brooklyn. investigators have screened
shooting. 6:03, and happening today, there is a bail hearing for a former rutgers football player home invasions. andre bogs is set to appear at 9 this morning. he is being held on $600,000 bail. bogs and two current rutgers students face charges in three incidents. bogs was kicked off the team after his arrest. connecticut governor dan elmaly heads to stanford to sign emily's law named for the teenager killed in a boating accident over a year ago. the law sets new standards for safe towing instruction prior to anyone getting a safe boating certificate. a police sergeant in orange county has died on the job of a heart attack, eric mier and another officer with the crawford police department were searching for a possible marijuana growing operation when meyer went into cardiac arrest.
regional medical center in wall kill where he died. he leaves behind a wife and two sons. donald trump is claiming victory in wednesday night's gop debate, but he's also catching flak for not speaking up when a town hall question in new hampshire smeared muslims and president obama. >> problem in this country, it's called muslims. we know our current president is one. >> right.. >> you know he's not even an american. but anyway. >> it's a reminder of the controversy donald trump stirred up when he claimed president obama had not been born in the united states. trump did nothing to correct the questioner's claim that the president is not an american and is a muslim. trump also said he'd be looking at the man's claims of terrorist training camps on american soil. carly fiorina is also being pressed about her debate claim
of a fetus at a planned parenthood facility being prepared for organ harvesting. the image she described is not in any of the videos released by the undercover antiabortion group. a spokesperson says fiorina's claims are untrue and part of a pattern of deception and dishonesty. a lawmaker hailed as a hero after taking down a would be purse snatcher in queens. state assemblyman ron kim drawing on his skills as a high school and college football player found himself redefining kim sprang into action after witnessing a woman with a baby trying to chase the man down. >> all i could think about is any wife walking the streets every single day and it happening to her. >> the man ducked into an office building and kim got on the phone to call 9-1-1. then a good samaritan spotted the clothes.

this morning, long island sound out in the atlantic, around fire island. rip current risk is low if you're going to the beach today. i want to show you the queens midtown tunnel and show you how nicely it's looking. this is the bell parkway, doing just fine as you make your way through jfk. let's go to our maps and talk queens midtown tunnel. we had earlier construction there. that construction has been picked up and put away, not doing too badly. a little delay as you get through that tunnel, and then as you go over here to the george washington bridge, minor delays. lincoln is 5 minutes. 280 west near exit 15 which is route 21 in new, a. you have that accident being cleared away not causing a tremendous amount of volume. long island railroad, metro north, new jersey transit trains on or close to schedule. 6 trains have been repaired. if you're taking the 1 train starting at 11:30 tonight lasting until monday morning.

it is 6:12. new in morning, investigators are working to identify human skeletal remains found in new jersey. police say a hunter stumbled upon the bones in a wooded area in buena vista township. investigators also discovered several personal items including a black baseball cap with puerto rico written on it and windbreaker coat with nyc lifeguard department of parks and on the back a green backpack containing a cell phone and glasses. new information search crews have now found all seven victims killed in flooding at zion national park in utah. this picture shows the hikers
away in flash flooding on monday. they've now been identified as six hikers from california and another from nevada. officials at the park say the visitors were warned of the flood advisory when they got there. we're seeing new video this morning of the flooding that suddenly hit the park earlier this week. hikers rushed to get to safety as water pureed on to the trail of one -- poured on to the trail of one of the parks. the heavy rain caused a river flowing through the canyons to quickly burst its banks. the canyons were closed. a friend of the accused charleston church shooter will be in court today after being taken into police custody. joey meek was arrested yesterday more than a month after police say he lied to them and failed to report a crime. meek has said dylann roof who is accused of killing nine black church members during bible study in june stayed with him before the shootings and
today bowe bergdahl's attorneys will present evidence during day two of the hearing to determine whether the army sergeant should face a military trial on desertion charges. yesterday three of bergdahl's commanders testified saying his disappearance put a strain on their forces and endangered fellow soldiers. the taliban held bergdahl captive five years until a controversial prisoner exchange led to his release. it is now 6:14. it is time to get a check on that accuweather forecast. >> meteorologist bill evans live outside our studios on the upper west side. >> it is very comfortable, feels great outside this morning, a great start to your friday. the last weekend of the summer of 2015 on the calendar is going to go out like summer. here's a look outside this morning, got a beautiful sunrise in progress. we've got just a few little cumulus clouds, we're looking all the way across to what's a beautiful sunrise on the east side. calm wind, dry humidity. temperatures in the 60s.
degrees, 58 around west hampton. we're looking at dry high pressure across the northeast, new england all the way back to the great lakes. you see that front and those thunderstorms. if you're going to travel there this morning, you're going to have delays in o'hare, detroit, cleveland, cincinnati, toledo, even down to st. louis will have delays by that front. by the time it gets to us, it will be sunday. it will dry out by then. breezy weather this morning, a light breeze in the southwest. a great comfortable morning. later on it's 87 degrees, lots of sunshine, nice and warm. it's still summery today and tomorrow still warm for this time of the year. 83 degrees where the normal high is about 74 this weekend. it's going to be warm. we're looking at 87. uv index is 6. water temperature is 75 degrees. a couple hours to get a sunburn. put on you'll need that. sunday is our transition day to

there? >> it's doing pretty well if you're planning on taking mass transit, long island railroad is running on or close to schedule. metro north looks okay. new jersey transit no major problems. the 6 trains, those signal problems at morrison avenue have been repaired. that accident quickly cleared away in newark. we have a little bit of a delay as you head to the westbound side. minor delays george washington bridge, the lincoln is 5, the holland has a minor delay. queens midtown tunnel we had earlier construction. it has been cleared away. they're doing one lane open in both directions with one tube available. you also have the merit going south. show you the bqe as you head into the kosciuszko bridge, you have a little delay as you go on to the northbound side, eastbound side. street cleaning rules are in effect for today. over to you. thank you heather, and let's get some more information on the delays at the queens midtown tunnel.

de worries about the global economy led the federal reserve to keep interest rates at a historically low level. it did not rule out a rate hike before the end of the year. fed chair janet yellen made the surprise announcement yesterday signaling the post recession economy is still fragile. >> reaction on wall street was barely evident. the dow starts down, nasdaq and s&p 500 were mostly flat. futures are a little higher. overseas japan's nikkei lost 2%, hong kong's hang seng ended slightly higher. suffolk county officials are announcing plans to help revive mcarthur airport. the county is allocating $1.5 million to set up new facilities at the airport in the town of islip. the town is working to land new domestic routes and is talking to into international airlines about coming to the airport.
malone will speak about the details to better market the airport. next week verizon will become the first american company to offering roaming wireless service in cuba. the move following the restoration of diplomatic relations between cuba and the united states. cell phones are scarce in cuba. 6:24, and you're never more than 7 minutes away from weather and traffic and bill evans with the accuweather forecast. >> we take a look at temperatures this morning, and they are quite comfortable around the five boroughs. we're looking at temperatures of 69 to 71 degrees. we're looking at a calm wind to a southwest wind. we're looking at low humidities for the morning hours. this will drop off again into that 30% range later on today. great weather on your ride in the ferries in staten island, jersey city and over to the hudson. water temperature is 74 in the harbor and 75 long island sound, hardly any wind at all from bridgeport over to port jeff, looking at great day with a lot of sunshine.

here's a live look at the scene right now at west 231st street in kings bridge. investigators say the victim was one of two passengers. they asked the driver to pull over because the victim had been drinking and felt sick. he stumbled out of the cab right into the path of that bus. the bus driver told police he tried to avoid the man but couldn't. no charges have been filed. 6:32, and we are just learning new details on a developing story in westchester county. the search is on for a gunman who shot a man in the parking lot of a yonkers fast food restaurant. police telling us the 23-year- old victim was shot in the head and arm outside the burg king of the 800 block of central park avenue. the man was shot as he stood outside his car. the victim remains in critical condition. new details on a mother who triggered an amber alert.
bars charged with custodial hendriks violated a temporary order of protection when she picked up her daughter from school on wednesday. unharmed. the child's father also under arrest this morning. now to a developing story in manhattan. police are speaking to a man in connection with the deaths of investigators believe joseph san claire spent time with both victims before they died. one woman was found in brooklyn in july. that other woman was discovered in manhattan ten days ago. dunclaire is also being questioned in at least two unsolved rapes. time now is 6:33. we're expecting to learn more today about the investigation into a series of armed robberies at gas stations on long island. police say this man is linked to at least eight robberies a the gas stations in nasa county.
suffolk county police are also investigating a series of robberies that may be connected making this man the suspect in at least 15 robberies in all. officials in both counties will speak this morning about the investigation. today there will be a court hearing on long island for the pickup truckdriver who slammed into a limousine killing four young women. four women survived the july crash. steven row mayo was arrested after he tried to flee the scene and was charged with dwi. later tests showed his blood alcohol level was below the legal limit. today's hearing could be postponed while experts continue to work on a collision reconstruction. under pressure from senator chuck schumer, the national transportation safety board has agreed to investigate future limousine accidents. there are growing doubts about how safe the vehicles are once they're modified into stretch limos. the senator says party limos may not have enough side impact

really it's of little significance when it gets here. by lunchtime it's 84. 87 this afternoon, really nice. temperatures are averaging 10 to 15 degrees warmer than normal. it is still summer today and tomorrow. we'll talk about the last weekend of the summer 2015 and next week when autumn arrives that's in your accuweather seven-day forecast. heather's looking at your commute. >> we have an issue in north arlington new jersey. a serious accident. we have news copter 7 up above. what are you seeing john del giorno? >> first five pictures heather o'rourke we are on ridge road in north arlington. looks like this car was traveling northbound on ridge road that crosses franklin place. we're about a block south of holy cross cemetery. that car was traveling northbound crossed through oncoming traffic and struck that utility pole. it doesn't look like any other vehicles were involved, but you see the vehicle there. ambulance just left unsure of the severity of the injuries. what we've got our eye on now is that utility pole right there.
we're going to have to see what other long-term street closures there are here. ridge road operating with one lane in each direction. thank you very much. we're going to head back to our maps. i can tell you that the george washington bridge is 5 minutes, the lincoln is 15. the holland has a 10 minute delay. 280 west near exit 15, that earlier accident has been cleared away. we are finding this delay as you travel on to 84 east right near exit 12 an accident and farther east right near exit 19, that's another accident that is being cleared. that one was reportedly a hit and run accident. long island railroad, metro north, new jersey transit trains are running on or close to schedule and that queens been cleared away. alternate side of the street thank you. 6:38. a day care center in brooklyn will be closed today as authorities investigate how a toddler vanished while under their care. the nypd tweeted this photo of
got lost during a trip to the playground. thankfully he was safely reunited with his parents five hours later. his family has plenty of questions this morning. eyewitness news reporter kala rama is live in sunset park with more. >> reporter: at this time of morning, this is usually the time when parents would be dropping off their kids to this day care. that's not happening quality of life academy is closed while they're being investigated for losing a child at a playground yesterday. 2-year-old ethan hauchi was reunited with his family. the day care workers at quality of life academy brought him to sunset park and left him there. police say a woman found that toddler sleeping on a park bench and brought him down to the precinct. the 72nd precinct turned to social media to help identify him hoping someone would
recognize this picture they tweeted out. diane houachi says they didn't know her son was missing until hours later. >> what gets me so angry is the fact that the day care did not call me until 4:30 and my son's been missing since 12. anything could have happened. i mean anybody, a psycho you know, could have taken him somewhere. >> reporter: this day care is allowed to have a maximum of 15 children at one time. there were three aides working when this child was lost, one of those aides is being questioned by police. no charges have been filed burnings they may be pending and there is an ongoing investigation. meanwhile this day care will be closed. we're live in sunset park, kala rama channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you. 6:40, coming up, a big change for the weekend commute if you ride the 1 train. >> and a scary scene at an airport in texas when somebody crashed through the runway gates. what authorities are saying
slammed into a fence. the driver then fled the scene. no injuries were reported so far. 6:44 an alarming security breach at an airport in texas. >> a man crashed through a runway gate allegedly trying to steal a private jet. he tried to remove -- bystanders helped subdue him. the man has a history of mental illness and may have been on drugs. 6:44. two rikers island correction officers are facing prison time. the bronx d. a. says nakia gales and herman jiminian recruited inmate -- both charges face assault charges. prosecutors allege that gal es has gang tattoos on her neck. you've got the wrong number if you're planning on taking the 1 train this weekend. service is being suspended

have the last weekend on the calendar of the summer of 2015. excuse me. it will be a cold front will move through on sunday. go rain with that front. you'll notice the air mass gets a lot cooler sunday into monday. that's monday when we'll have a shot another some rain. we have a uv index of a 6 today. you can get a sunburn still. it's ragweed season in september and october. temperatures are mild from 69 in the city to mid and upper 50s to the north and west. and we've got clear skies all the way back to the great lakes. once again today and tomorrow we're going to have a lot of sunshine, and even on sunday we'll have a mixture of sun and clouds. the front to our west gets here starting on sunday, but notice as it moves eastward it loses everything. it loses all the moisture. it loses all the upper level support. the front comes through dry, the mixture of sun and clouds breezy. it will feel great.

now an update on the breaking news we've been following all morning in the bronx. >> eyewitness news reporter marcus solis at the scene of a deadly and unusual accident in kings bridge. marcus. >> reporter: a 23-year-old man is dead. he was trying to get out of a livery cab when he was struck and killed by a city bus. this happened just after 3:00 this morning. west 231st street and kings bridge avenue. the victim was a passenger in a livery cab. the driver says that he was intoxicated and got sick, was throwing up out of the passenger side door and then
tried to get out of the cab when he was struck by the bus. the driver tried to veer around but the bus struck and killed the 23-year-old who was pronounced dead at the scene. no charges filed. the identity of the victim has not yet been released. we're live in kings bridge, marcus solis channel 7 eyewitness news. new details on a mother who triggered an amber alert. jacqueline hendriks is behind bars charged with custodial interference. hendriks violated a temporary order of protection when she picked up her daughter from school on the lower east side wednesday. the child's father carlos hicks under arrest this morning. we're expecting to learn more today about a series of armed robberies at gas stations on long island. police say this man is linked to at least eight robberies at gas stations in nassau county. suffolk county police are investigating a series of
