you might want to grab a light jacket. good morning, i'm lori stokes. >> i'm michelle charlesworth in for ken rosato. today is wednesday october 14th. >> you're never more than 7 minutes away from weather and traffic and bill. >> good morning ladies. we take a look outside, and we've got a cool and crisp morning. it's also mild for this hour of the day. a little warmer than normal. we're at 62 degrees. the cooler air is going to be slowly filtering in today. look at that. 55 kingston, poughkeepsie. 59 bridgeport. 57 islip, wrights town 57 and we're looking at a nice sunny day today with temperatures in the upper 60s. yeah, it's going to get near 70. upper 60s today. we're going to talk about a big november shot coming for the weekend in your accuweather seven-day forecast, and she's really happy about that. >> no, she's not. not at all. >> i saw the scowl on your face. i can see the laser beams coming out of your eye sockets.
>> let's go over to our mass transit charts. it looks like everything is running on or close to schedule. don't forget about metro north new haven line. a trains suspended between euclid avenue. that's ongoing track work. the bruckner northbound we have an accident. result of that. then you have the belt parkway closed down with construction. eastbound traffic is going to take two-way traffic. we have alternate side of the street parking rules in effect. lamar odom is fighting for his life after he was found unconscious. 35-year-old former nba star played for the los angeles lakers and clippers and is a native of queens. dray clark is live in middle village where odom attended high school. >> lamar odom spent three years school.
he once said leaving here was one of the worst decisions he made. no one can forget the sense of pride and prestige he brought the school. this morning there are many prayers for odom as he recovers in that las vegas hospital. this is video of odom arriving at the hospital yesterday afternoon. he is reportedly in very critical condition. odom was found unconscious at the love ranch, a well-known brothel 70 miles outside las vegas. emts were able to stabilize him and drive him to the hospital in vegas. they planned to airlift him but he was too tall for the helicopter. days. he was in good spirits and having a real good time until he was found unresponsive. >> i was not there. horrifying. blood was coming out of him. when they put him on his left side he started throwing up, but he definitely was alive
while he was there. they put him in the ambulance. >> reporter: at 6-10 he was a forward and a star-studded player, in fact winning two championships with the los angeles lakers. he had a few run-ins with the law from time to time and was rumored to have a big problem with substance abuse and last played in the nba in 2013. in 2009 he married chloe kardashian, and she eventually filed for divorce four years later. however, we're told that she is now at his side there at the hospital and certainly like many other people praying that he'll recover. right now all we're being told is he is unconscious and in very critical condition. live in middle village queens this morning, dray clark channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you dray. the first democratic presidential primary debate remained tame. hillary clinton and bernie sanders dominated and agreed on at least one issue. lucy yang has the story.

series has only hit a speed bump. the mets will have to play a 5th and deciding game in their division series matchup against the l. a. dodgers after losing game 4 last night at citi field. daniel murphy's home run was the only offense they could muster in the 3-1 loss. game 5 is tomorrow night in california. the winner moves on to play the chicago cubs. we'll have player reaction ahead at 5 a.m. stay with eyewitness news for continuing coverage of the mets road to the world series. and the luck of the irish ran a little short last night when a car plowed into the village avenue. >> the pub's owner was sitting in his car across the street and watched as a red sedan restaurant. luckily customers were watching the mets game and that kept them away from the front
window. >> i came off the worse for wear you can see here. you know about the luck of the irish, i don't know. tough cay at the office here. >> good attitude. nobody in the restaurant was hurt. the driver of the red car says he simply mixed up his brake and gas pedals. we're learning more about the killing of a taxi driver in newark. authorities are charging a 14- year-old boy in the murder. 45-year-old rhodora go burro was shot and killed august 21st while he was on duty. the teenage suspect has not been identified but he's facing robbery and weapons charges. a fight between two men on a seat in a city bus escalated into a brutal stabbing. it happened yesterday in the stapleton section where one of the men whipped out a knife and began stabbing the other over a seat. the suspect got away and as police look for him the community remains on edge.

not a significant rain and we are short rainfall. it will be a chilly weekend with 50s. it will be frosty in the suburbs, and it's going to be the coldest weather since april. hopatcong is at 47. hackettstown 51. we're looking at 55 in poughkeepsie. the normal overnight low is 50 in the park. it should be 40 here and 38 here and you see on long island it's 57 islip. 59 at bridgeport. this morning we have this west wind coming across. it's a light west wind to about a 5, 10 miles an hour breeze today. clear skies, brand new high pressure ridge coming in. there's a little cooler air coming in across the lake. the next front to affect us is way up here in canada back here towards lake superior. that will sweep down in the next couple of days. a breezy beauty today, 68 degrees. then we're looking at a gorgeous day tomorrow, 66 before these fronts come through. it's not a big shot at a

bronx expressway, westbound underneath the apartments heading into the george washington bridge, so we have all lanes closed down. the bruckner is closed northbound side right near the hunts point drawbridge. that's because of an accident. all lanes are closed there as well. double trouble as you head through the bronx. a trains suspended between euclid avenue and lepperts boulevard. long island railroad, new jersey transit doing just fine. the belt parkway is closed but this is closed for construction. it's west flatbush avenue to knapp street. street cleaning rules are in effect. lori, over to you. thank you. it's 4:48, and israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu is vowing to take aggressive steps and the israeli army is starting to deploy hundreds of troops this morning to stop a wave of violence. two nearly simultaneous attacks yesterday in jerusalem left three israelis dead. palestinians including two
attackers were also killed. mayor bill de blasio released a statement saying in part my thoughts and prayers with all the victims and their families, and new york city joins israel in mourning these innocent lives. an american missionary known for her 20 years of work with orphans has been murdered in haiti. no word own a motive. she was well-known on the island and killed while running a children's home. a voluntary missionary team sent from tennessee to help her was in haiti for less than 24 hours. they were only half a mile away when edwards was shot and killed her and her 4-year-old son was kidnapped. >> our intent is to not let evil win, not to let satan win but to continue the work of the kingdom of god because that's exactly what this is. >> at the time of her death edwards was caring for 20 children in her home. she also ran a nutrition center that feeds 160 children every day.
a court ruling in wisconsin could spark increased debate about the nation's gun laws. milwaukee gun store has been found negligent in connection to a shooting that left two injured. the suit claimed badger guns ignored warnings that the gun used in the shooting was a so- called straw purchase. that means someone bought the gun for another person who wasn't allowed to have it. >> i didn't want to send a message around the country. what i wanted to do is represent my two clients, these two milwaukee police officers. some gun dealers around the country realize they may have their feet held to the fire, then that's a bonus. >> the officers were awarded nearly $6 million. the gun shop owner has denied wrongdoing. receding flood waters in south carolina reveal the impact of the recent deluge on the state's roadways. repairs. the department of

after he hugged her at his 8th birthday party because she says jennifer connell says her nephew jumped to greet her when she arrived at the home in west ago. she fell and broke her wrist. connell who lives on the upper east side claims she had huge medical bills and still has pain so she sued her nephew for $127,000 saying he should have known he could hurt her. the jury took less than 30 minutes to disagree and sided with the nephew. closing in on 5:00, and just ahead on eyewitness news this morning, former pro basketball star and queens native lamar odom is fighting for his life in las vegas after he was found unconscious in a legal brothel. >> and happening today, family and friends will say good-bye to a staten island teenager after he fell to his death in a vacant hospital.
now new york's number 1 news channel 7 eyewitness news this morning. good morning, it's 5 a.m., and today a vacant hospital -- this of course is lamar odom who is unconscious in a hospital in nevada right now after being found unconscious in a legal brothel. we'll have that story. >> and that was a video of lamar odom being taken out of the ambulance in nevada. he had to be rushed by ambulance because he could not fit in the helicopter. >> and also in nevada last night, democrats going head to head in the first democratic debate. and we'll have reaction of who came out on top and who barely said anything.

as you go on the cross bronx expressway westbound the ramp to the george washington bridge, lower level is closed down. the cross bronx west underneath the apartments we have this debris spill. traffic is really starting to stack up as you head across the cross bronx expressway. george washington bridge, upper level you have that construction. you cannot access the lower level. lincoln and holland that construction clearing away. now here's the second problem in the bronx. the bruckner northbound near the hunts point drawbridge. that's an accident. we have all lanes closed down there as well. double trouble in the bronx. we still have this problem as you head on to the best. flatbush avenue to knapp street construction, east side runs two-way traffic. street cleaning rules are in effect for today. thank you. it's 5:02. happening today, the demolition will begin on a vacant hospital in staten island following the death of a teenager there last week. police say 16-year-old marcos castillo was playing with friends inside the building
when he fell seven stories town an elevator shaft. eyewitness news reporter kala rama is live now outside the building. >> reporter: a memorial of candles and flowers sitting outside the gate to that abandoned building. finally today demolition will start to tear this eyesore down, something that the neighborhood has been waiting for for months. back in february an emergency declaration was issued for the building to be demolished along with an order to seal the old staten island hospital on castleton avenue. after eight months the building is still standing and accessible. police say 16-year-old marcos castillo and four others were playing in the abandoned building right before he plunged to his death in an elevator shaft last friday. now castillo's parents are happy about the demolition but still grief stricken over the loss of their son.
>> he's only 16 years old. he's beautiful. he's lovely. i don't want it to happen with the other kids the same like us. >> reporter: today a gathering of castillo's family and friends will take place at our lady of mount carmel benidicta church, the funeral is tomorrow at 10 a.m. this demolition will take four to six months to complete. questions still loom on why it took more than eight months to come down after that emergency declaration was declared back in june. we're live here in staten island, kala rama channel 7 eyewitness news. thank you. a developing story overnight. former pro basketball star and queens native is fighting for his life. he was found unresponsive yesterday at a lethal brothel. ranch. since saturday. arrangements had to be made to
fly odom to the las vegas hospital but he was too tall to fit in the helicopter, so he was taken by ambulance. odom is known outside the sports world as well for having been married to chloe kardashian in 2009. we'll have a live report from the queens high school odom attended ahead at 5:30. meantime this morning we're hearing from the father of a young woman shot to death outside a manhattan nightclub after the arrest of his daughter's suspected killer. dalone jamison is to be arraigned on murder and other charges in monday's early morning shooting. police say this he opened fire district. he was aiming at the club's bouncer but hit walikque faussett and two of her friends. faussett died at the hospital. her father has no sympathy for her killer. >> i don't know.
>> police say the suspect and victim knew each other, but they're not sure whether jamison knew faussett had been shot. her two friends are still recovering. showdown on the strip, the democrats in the race for the white house faced off in their first prime time debate in las vegas. it appears hillary clinton proved why she is the front runner. abc's kenneth moton joins us live from washington. >> reporter: hillary clinton was tough. she did not take any prisoners. she dominated on that stage taking on her four challengers who at times refused to bring the fight to her. >> round 1, the democrats sparring over the issues. hillary clinton, feisty, aggressive, defending her record in the senate and as secretary of state. >> i would not and anyone to vote for me based on my last name. i'd ask them to listen to what i'm proposing, look at what i accomplished. >> from gun control. >> is bernie sanders tough enough on guns?

new this morning, it was a mercedes against a ram overnight above the long island expressway. nassau county police were chasing the mercedes through dix hills when the car slammed into a dodge ram on the l.i.e. overpass. the driver of the ram was unharmed but his son was taken to huntington hospital with minor injuries. the driver of the mercedes is charged with driving while intoxicated. a drug investigation reveals the failure of peru's military to act as planes fly freely in the area. about four times a day a single engine plane lands on a dirt airstrip in the world's top growing valley. the planes deliver cash, pick up cocaine, and then they fly back to bolivia right under the nose of peru's military.

we have street cleaning rules in effect. over to you. thank you. developing this morning, lamar odom is fighting for his life. the former nba star and high school basketball phenom from queens was found unconscious in a nevada brothel. eyewitness news reporter dray clark is live now in queens where odom played high school ball. dray. >> good morning, lori. lamar odom was born and raised right here in queens and he was a bona fide super star here because of his stellar play on the basketball court. this morning there are prayers going up for odom from across the country as he recovers from a las vegas hospital. now this is video of lamar odom arriving at that hospital in vegas yesterday afternoon. he is said to be in very critical condition. odom was found unconscious at the love ranch, a well-known brothel about 70 miles outside las vegas. emts were able to stabilize odom and eventually drive him to the hospital.
they had planned to airlift him to the hospital, but he was too tall to fit into the helicopter. he says odom had been there for several days in very good spirits and all was going well until he was found unresponsive. >> i was not there. my staff said that it was horrifying. blood was coming out of him. when they put him on his left side he started throwing up, but he definitely was alive while he was there. they put him in the ambulance. >> now at 6:10 he a forward in the nba and odom was a bona fide super star in the nba winning two championships with the los angeles lakers. he last played in the nba in 2013. he had some run-ins with the law, and he certainly did have a struggle with substance abuse. in 2009 he married chloe kardashian, but she filed for divorce in 2013 citing irreconcilable differences.
