flight. but, again, the flight landed safely. everyone is okay. the faa we understand is going to investigate. you will recall, a side note, it was yesterday that the faa was making recommendations calling for people to register drones in unmanned aircraft when they were purchased in the future. that is something that is pending, that they made the recommendation as of yesterday. this incident -- without incident as the plane landed safely here. reporting live at laguardia, tim fleischer, channel 7 eyewitness news. we turn to the mets. they are hoping to win one on the road. tonight they are throwing at the cubs ace pitcher jacob degrom. >> they are trying to win the first national league pennant in 15 years. >> anthony johnson is at wrigley field in chicago but we begin with rob powers. >> reporter: i like that, they moved to another city, another stadium but they look for the

mets in chicago to face the cubs. two wins away from the world series. lead by daniel murphy they are at wrigley field. they are eager to get the game started. the lack of success in the friendly confines is well documented but they made a habit of proving people wrong. degrom on the hill. they have been swinging the bats well for a while. they will take their chances in chicago's home park. >> back in their place and warmer, so are we. we have power, too. you look at our power numbers from august 1st on, we are dangerous. >> yeah, you are. getting closer to game 3 mets move along and the fans are on for the ride. anthony johnson is at wrigley field for the game but more importantly, he is there for the fans that can't be there, right, anthony? >> reporter: absolutely. some mets fans made the trek out here to chicago looking at

wrigley field we can tell you the place is buzzing. all the bars and restaurants, fans are gathered. there is one new york met who is making money tonight. he is a met but he surely has some chicago love. >> granderson is back at the wall. curtis granderson home run stealing catch in game 2 was painful for cubs fans. he grew up just outside the city. he co-owns several businesses including roots pizzeria, west side bakery and the 50/50 club where his signed mets jersey is on the wall. his triple stack burger is back on the menu while the championship series is in town. >> we do have the grandy triple stack burger back on special for the series. three of our slider patties on a bun, one of his favorites.

>> reporter: eddy mow hon any went to high school with granderson. he knows he makes his money in chicago but has to back his business partner. >> i am root for curtis but we need the cubbies to win for business. i hope it goes to game 7. >> reporter: nick, the manager at roots pizzeria is hiding a little dark secret right in the middle of enemy territory. yes, he is a mets fan who follows granderson and loves when the superstar stops by. >> it's fantastic. he is such a high profile player we enjoy having him around and the crowd he brings in. >> reporter: you know, we have mets fans everywhere. they showed up outside of wrigley field. you guys from new york? >> that's right. >> reporter: they are here to watch from -- they came from whitestone queens to watch the mets.

we will go to a bar near here where a whole lot of mets fans are about to gather. anthony johnson, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> strictly for baseball. anthony, thank you. in sports we will join laura behnke on the field for the match-up. game 3 in chicago. >> can't wait to talk more about it. we want to see how you are staying true to the orange and blue. send us your pictures using the bc7ny. a school bus up in flames late this afternoon. smoke from the intense fire could be seen for miles away. there were no students on board. that is the good news. the driver apparently wasn't hurt. that is good news as well. now to the chaos and fiery inferno in chelsea. a luxury apartment building erupting in a fire that officials say threatened the structural integrity of the building and forced the evacuation of four nearby structures. how did the building catch fire

shirleen allicot on the scene shirleen? >> reporter: that is a question that probably won't be answered for several days, bill. i can tell you 17th street between 7th and 8th avenue is still closed to traffic. have been allowed back in. i will move out of the way. you can see the scene is still very active. officials at this point believe that the building will not collapse. they can't be certain yet that smolder. firefighters need to get that out first. it's a job that likely will continue through the night. flames ripping april apartment 218 this morning. >> for me the scariest part was waking up to the entire street, flames out the windows and you saw it escalate. >> a blazing fire. i watched it for 2 1/2 hours

then went back to bed and five minutes later police were ringing the bell to evacuate us. >> reporter: this cell phone video was taken by people at a nearby cafeteria restaurant. >> as a result, we sue the street pitch black and within five minutes, the flames started coming out and within 10 the flames are two stories high. >> reporter: the unoccupied building was set to be transformed into multimillion dollar condos. the fire department says the renovation project helped feed the flames. >> the sprinkler system was removed. there were numerous holes in the floors. they were putting in a center shaft, elevators. usually you have construction materials throughout. >> to be that close to that many flames and the intensity. you could see the smoke getting sucked back into the building. >> reporter: the office of emergency management tells me they will be back and reassess

the building's integrity in the morning. no injuries reported. that includes the watchman who was inside the building at the time. we will keep you updated. shirleen allicot, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> shirleen, thank you. we are learning new information about a breaking story in the bronx. three people are injured in a serious crash involving an s.u.v. this happened at 167th street in the morrisania section. one woman, a pedestrian, is in critical condition at this hour. the two other people including the driver are in manage serious condition. a police pursuit in suffolk county came to a dramatic end with a wrong way crash killing a suspect on the run and an innocent driver. police say the female suspect was driving westbound in the eastbound lanes of the northern state parkway in dix hills around 2:40 this morning. officers tried pulling her over for allegedly driving drunk and in a stolen vehicle but she refused to stop.

closed in both directions for several hours. an embarrassment. that's what bill bratton calls the latest escape of a suspect from police custody. gerald brooks, handcuffs behind his back when he shoved the arresting officer and ran away. he has 54 prior are rest. he is the 5th suspect to escape since june in new york. the officers involved will be disciplined. a quick look at wall street. stocks finished lower. the dow lost 13 points. nasdaq down 24 and s&p 500 lost nearly 3 points. as we continue with "eyewitness news at 6:00" for this tuesday night, anxious parents rushing to a school, a school the target of repeated bomb threats. >> and did the democratic debate help? what a new pole is revealing.

here is marcus solis. >> reporter: a site that is too familiar, the fourth bomb threat this month. emergency response followed byner vows parents racing to check on their children. >> it has to be a sick person, somebody that has nothing better to do with their lives. >> not just what goes through my mind but his mind as well. he is wondering why are we having so many lock downs. i don't know what to say to that. >> reporter: the school went into lock down. police determined the children, kindergarten through 5th grade were safe but for little ones sitting quiet for an hour unable to talk, go to lunch or use the bathroom. >> our heads are going through what is going on, who will help us. >> my daughter tells me she is locked in a room not being able to eat or use the bathrooms, both of my daughters, that upsets me.

upsetting for police and school administrators as well. they were previous incidents of swatting where a caller phones in a threat to trigger an emergency response. >> they could be across the street, in another wherever and these web sites direct traffic and move and makes it difficult to trace. >> reporter: maple hill resumed a normal school day. many parents topped pull the students out of class. >> what happens if somebody is willing to come here and do harm to our kids. >> that is why some are requesting a police officer be stationed at the school until the situation is resolved. marcus solis, channel 7 eyewitness news. to politics now. support for hillary clinton's presidential campaign is growing among democrats. an abc news "washington post" pole shows more than half would choose her to represent the party. bernie sanders is behind her at 23% and vice president biden

6:17. getting darker and darker. we fall back in a week and a half, marathon sunday. temperatures right now in the background is the west side. nice and mild. not as many heavy coats. 68 degrees. on the rise. average high is 62. we are above normal the next couple of days. below normal by friday. sunset times. weather headlines, warmer tomorrow and thursday with highs in the low to middle 70s. even if we stay dry we will get cooler friday into saturday where we fight to get out of the 50s. back no normal sunday. forecast. right now, know that the first half of the weekend is dry. morning. 30s north and west. and commack. 70 manhasset. ten degrees warmer in poughkeepsie at 72.

69 newark and 66 belmar. we are running 15 to 20 warmer than yesterday at this time. nice mild evening in the 60s. 55 by morning with patchy high clouds. mostly sunny during the day, not as breezy. beautiful low to mid-70s. see the high clouds rolling into connecticut. a front is to the north. that's where it stays. a few showers here may survive the trip into the mountains. we stay dry and mild. as you trace the showers westward, north of chicago, a line of showers. that is north of wrigley field right now. but off to the west there is a heavier batch of showers moving east about 40. they are only a few hours a way. maybe there by first pitch. a rain threat there. a delay is a possibility. if you look at the futurecast, ominous with the rain after 9:00 and hanging out a few hours. this futurecast, there is the opportunity for rain showers.

hopefully we get the possibility of a delay and then pass but we have to watch that closely. 65 degrees. pleasantly warm tomorrow. dry for us. warm on thursday as well. maybe a late day or evening shower. still in the mid-70s then cooler friday. your accuweather forecast, partly cloudy to mainly clear tonight. pair of 5s. tomorrow 73. it will feel gorgeous. sun, patchy clouds and pleasant. tomorrow partly cloudy and mild night. barely below 60. friday a lot cooler. cool wind, too. cool on saturday. dry. we will get in the mid-60s sunday. you may need the umbrella at times then 60s early next week. there you go. >> thank you, lee we want to return to the breaking news. a pedestrian has been hit by an s.u.v. in the bronx. >> lucy yang is at the scene in the more san -- morrisania section with the latest. >> reporter: they have just finished chopping up this light pole behind me which fell down during the accident.

we have some surveillance video to show you before the point of impact where there was so many children in the area and certainly the injury toll could have been higher. we understand a female pedestrian was struck by a black s.u.v. this afternoon around 4:00. she was taken to albert einstein hospital in critical condition. the driver of the s.u.v. was also taken to the hospital, to lincoln hospital in serious but stable condition. a third person was also taken to the hospital. all this happened around 4:00 this afternoon. our news copter was overhead at the time. now we are learning that the third person has now -- one driver has now been arrested. police believe he tried to flee the scene, not the driver of the black s.u.v. which struck the woman but the driver of yet another vehicle. obviously investigators are trying to sort all of this out. we do have a female pedestrian in the hospital in critical condition. live in the bronx, lucy yang

if chicago wins they will get momma's hero sandwiches. you know what, some of the chicago players may throw in the rug. let's talk about real baseball tonight. >> let's do it now. finally the mets hope the friendly confines buck the trend and become friendly for them starting tonight. letter game 3 at wrigley field. mets haven't one at wrigley in a couple of years. jacob degrom pitches tonight. he played well against the dodgers but lost to the cubs in the regular season. here is the match-up. degrom against kyle hendricks. on paper that is advantage mets but hendricks is 2-0 lifetime against the mets allowing one run in 13 innings. those are the nuts and bolts. laura behnke is live in chicago with more on big game 3.

>> reporter: the last time the mets were 2-0 in in alcs they went on to the world series. repeat won't be easy but the team is feeling confident. mets are looking good. >> especially when you are running out the four starters, you have an ace type on the mound for you where a lot of teams in baseball don't have that. >> reporter: despite the results, the cups lineup is dangerous, especially at wrigley. >> any team that has good power, this is a good place to play. >> our guys are ready to play. ment we have been through the moments in the past. i have been in these moments in the postseason in the past. so, anything is possible. you got to throw that jab. >> reporter: degrom has two wins in the postseason but struggled against the cubs 0-2 with era over six in the regular season. >> i know they weren't good starts. i will flush that and, this is the play-offs. it's going to be a new start

for me. >> all right, well, as an update for matt harvey experiencing tricep swelling, he threw a bit today. he is feeling better. terry collins said he will likely be good to go in game 5 if there is a game 5. laura behnke, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> good one. we will see you tonight after the game. as far as the alcs, dickey and young. royals up 5-2 in the 7th inning. masahiro tanaka arthroscopic surgery in town to remove a bone spur from the right elbow. the spur has been in there since tanaka came from japan. 12-7 lost the al wild card then pitching with a torn ligament, he is expected to be ready for spring training. ugly game for the giants and eagles. seven turnovers. philly won the game and that's all that matters.
