the life of an nypd officer in east harlem. now facing a first degree murder charge. new video of ferocious flames devouring a large apartment complex in new jersey. hundreds of people forced out. strike three called! we haven't been to the world series since 2000 and the mets are on their way back. >> and if you didn't before, now you got to believe. the mets taking a big step toward their first world title in almost three decades. >> wow. >> and good morning, i'm lori stokes. >> and i'm ken rosato. thanks for joining us, it is thursday, october 22nd and you're never more than seven minutes away from weather and traffic. meteorologist bill evans and the accuweather forecast. >> here we go 60 degrees right now and looking at what's going to be temperatures that are really comfortable for this hour of the day. warm really. 52 white plains and 354 bridgeport. 48 monticello. the numbers the 10 -- are 10, 12 degrees warmer than normal

to 77 which is 15 degrees warmer than normal. get out there and enjoy it if you love the warm stuff because much cooler weather by 20 degrees cooler is coming tomorrow. weather and traffic together every seven minutes. how's everything going? to the subway status map and i can tell you that our subways are running on or close to schedule. no problems to report there. using net row north. that's ongoing track work and long island railroad and new jersey transit trains are doing okay. as you head down the new england throughway heading south right near exit 19. two leans closed down with construction and if new york state throughway, that's an accident that is still being cleared away. on 58th street between park avenue and lexington avenue, you have the water main break. so you can expect some closures as you head through the spot. minor delays across the board at our hudson river crossings, george washington bridge, lincoln tunnel and holland are outbound. and the new jersey turnpike construction down by exit 7 a. street cleaning rules are in effect.

ken over to you. all right heather thank you. and the road to the world series has reached its destination. the mets are heading to the fall classic for the first time in over a decade. >> new york made quick work of the chicago cubs clinching the national league pennant in a four game sweep. but it didn't take long for the celebration to begin. the team popped champagne in the clubhouse and then passed around a few cigars to enjoy their win. >> team owners along with manager terry collins accepted the national league championship trophy and second baseman murphy who's been unstoppable during the postseason was named mvp. >> the mets will return to new york later today and sports anchor rob powers begins our coverage with the look at how the amazins' got it gone. >> reporter: they went half way across the country the grab a spot in the world series and they pulled it off. this is the team you will be telling your kids about years from now sweeping the gnarl league ham -- national league championship series and earning that spot in the fall classic.

they can keep anything they want but the team hasn't had a lead the entire series. 1st inning, 3-2 pitch to duda and think crushed it. next batter, travis d'arnaud back the back home runs. the mets bat around in the 1ening and lead 4-0. they started out great again. stephen matz, 24-year-old pitcher from long island making the eighth career start, he was great. 2nd inning duda again. base hit both runs come home. duda drives in five runs in the first two innings. mets out to a 6-0 lead. the cubs would load the bases later and come away with only one run. david wright saved a couple. the mets were on their way. bartolo colon, would relieve matz and he would stifle another mini cub threat. now follow this pitch. off the bat off d'arnaud's masks, off the helmet of montero and everyone is okay. reid would work a 1-2-3 7th inning and to cap off the

game one on tuesday. it's been amazing. >> yeah that it has been. and it has been nearly 30 years since mets' fans could celebrate an mlb championship. many of them who made the trip to the windy city are going to be coming back to new york today to prepare for the first ever world series game at citi field. eyewitness news reporter dray clark continues the coverage from flushing, queens, good morning. >> reporter: you know mets mania goes well beyond citi field here in queens, there are mets' fans everywhere across the country and the world and believe it or not, there were quite a few fans in chicago last night. so many fans made that trip to the windy city to watch the cubs beat up on -- i'm sorry, watch the mets beat up on the fashion. they certainly were in the minority inside wrigley field last night. but you really couldn't tell after the mets sealed the deal. they celebrated big inside the unabashed about their love for the mets and they wanted everyone to know that no doubt mets' mania has a big place in

>> i was born in bay ridge, brooklyn and i moved here ten years ago for school. but this never left me. this never left me. i actually got this when i left new york. and i kept it with me the whole time. and it couldn't be any better right now. >> joy, jubilation, i'm here with my wife having a great time. let's go mets baby. >> that's right. >> reporter: and so right now the mets are still in chicago recovering from all of that celebrating last night. they'll make that trip back on today. and we're expecting quite a few fans will be here to greet them and give them a heroes' welcome as we prepare to move on to gail one of the world series -- game one of the world series, live in queens this morning, dray clark, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you. the mets didn't waste any time celebrating their win online. just minutes after alcoholisming the pennant and -- clinching the pennant and they changed their twitter logo letting the half a million followers know they are the 2015 national league champs.

and we want to see how you are celebrating the mets' huge win. pictures on twitter and facebook or instagram. with the hashtag #abcny7. we'll be there the way as the mets continue their quest for the world series championship. coming up at 6:30 we have a full report from -- and we have a full report from inside the looker room after last night's celebration. developing in new jersey, hundreds of families are displaced this morning after a massive fire in a passaic apartment building, crews are still on the scene this morning putting out spots of this eight alarm fire. we get right to shannon stone live in news copter 7 over the scene. shannon? >> reporter: yeah, and ken it is such a different scene than from whats the last night. the fire broke out inside apartment building at 290 gregory avenue at about 9:00 last night. it took eight alarms to fight this near and we had -- fire and we had towns from about five away that were here trying to help fight the blaze. eight tower ladders in operation, the top floors were totally tomorrowed in the blaze and -- torched in the blaze and the ceiling completely collapsed.

as you can imagine so in people displaced by this tire. it does look like they have gotten the upper hand on it now but we have closures in the area particularlies this right on the corner with broadway coming into the right side of the picture, broadway completely shut down between broke street. going to be rough getting arnold this morning. if you get around to passaic avenue, no problem there. no word yet on the cause, reporting live over passaic, shannon stone, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> all right shannon thank you. and 6:08 and now to the very latest on the deadly shooting of an nypd officer in manhattan. late last night, 30-year- old tyrone howard was let out of the police precinct and into court where he was formally charged with first degree murder. prosecutors say that he shot and killed officer randolph holder during a confrontation along the fdr drive tuesday night. eyewitness news reporter mallory hoff is live in east harlem where the officer is being remembered. mallory. >> members of in community tell us that they want to celebrate

see justice served and you can see the growing memorial here outside of the precinct where flowers and candles lit in his honor. this video from late last night shows the man police say shot officer holder, tyrone howard seen here as his arraignment. physical evidence, video evidence and witnesses tie him to the shooting the nypd says. lineup was conducted to tie him to the robbery of a bicyclist minutes before the shooting. the courtroom was packed with the courtroom was packed with police, he complained saying he needed a chair after being shot in the leg by officer holder's partner. he is charged with first degree murder and robbery. hours after that court appearance at the safety the shooting in east harlem -- site of the shooting in east harlem. hundreds came out for a vigil to honor the fallen officer. after the vigil, last night at the police academy. mayor de blasio spoke about

>> officer holder lived out his purpose in life. what he believed in, what his family and father and grandfather before believed in. there's something truly noble in someone having such a sense of mission that they would put their own life on the line. >> reporter: back out here live. you can see bunting hung over this entryway clearly an entire police force now in mourning. this is as we're learning more about the final arrangements for this fallen officer. we're told there will be a viewing a public viewing in far rockaway on tuesday. his funeral will be there on wednesday. we're told he will be buried in his native guyana. live in east harlem, mallory hoff, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> all right thank you and the empire state building shined iningly overnight in honor of officer -- in blue overnight in honor of all police officers. flags across new york state will be half staff until he is laid to rest. you are never more than

developing thorn, a -- this morning, a 34-year-old man has been arrested in the shooting o a police officer in albuquerque. the officer was shot several times during a traffic stop last night and now he's in critical condition at this hour, police have not identified the officer but we the know that d -- do know that he is an eight year veteran of force, the suspected shooter

main break so you can expect some closures as a result. new jersey turnpike southbound car lanes the ramp to exit 7 a is closed through november. so what you need to do is use the truck lanes to exit at 7 a as a result. our mass transit systems are on close to schedule. and street cleaning rules are in effect. developing right now, a new video shows the raging flames attacking an apartment building in passaic, new jersey overnight. now more than 300 people are out of their homes this morning. that near started last night on gregory avenue and then quickly destroyed the building. two firefighters suffered minor injuries. the red cross is working with the affected families. also heards are heavy across new york city today as we remember the fourth nypd officer killed in the line of duty withen the past year. officer randolph holder was shot in the head and killed tuesday night. his photo now rests beside

three of his brothers in blue outside the ninth precinct house in the east village. meanwhile, the suspect accused of murdering him went before a judge. eyewitness news reporter mallory hoff is live now in east harlem. mallory? >> reporter: lori, we've seen an incredible outpouring of the support for the fallen officer from this community. we saw it in a vigil last night and this morning in a growing memorial from the fallen officer worked. as this memorial grows, investigators are putting together a case against man they say is responsible for the death of officer holder. they say they have physical evidence, witnesses, and video evidence that ties him to this killing. tyrone howard's first taste of justice came with him shackled and handcuffed making a demand. he wanted a chair complaining his leg hurt after being shot by officer holder's partner. in a courtroom packed with police, howard was seated then slid into place. barely visible as the judge ordered him held without bail. the charges? first degree murder and robbery.
