6:12 am
heavy rain in texas and there is more to come. the remnants of hurricane patricia going north. heavy rain saturday swamped some towns in texas taking out roads and highways as well. if it wasn't soaked it was pulled by high winds that tore down fences and roofs and pelt the the streets with plenty of debris. >> i would say on a scale from one to ten, my residence is a ten. >> some people have been in this traffic for five hours. >> better off in the bakery. >> >> a train carrying cement derailed when it hit emerged track south of dallas. some got rain and that stranded drivers and even shutdown parts of the interstate for miles. >> a foot and a half. those are the numbers this morning.
6:13 am
i'm a little confused. the damage in mexico from patricia does not seem to be as bad as what is a historically strong storm it was. why? >> two reasons, where it hit and also what happened right when it got on landfall. it raced into mexico, so it goes in as fast as possible and as soon as it gets inland, there is a mountain range so when it hits the mountain range it shreds it's up, but the speed of the storm also affected the catastrophe that could have been but it did ruin some fishing towns. we don't have pictures from the remote areas but it didn't wipe out places like puerta vallarta or somewhere we thought it could happen. >> so the speed gave energy but the speed gave its down fall. >> remember you said how quickly it gri and went into intensity?
6:14 am
>> that was the warm hour that hit land but then it lost. >> it needs the heat and water to get the energy. >> that is why el nino helped to fight the storm. >> there my friends is the end of meteorologist 101 this morning. check back with us at 6: 6:38. >> but it is all interesting things. >> it is fascinating to see what happens in the atmosphere. we begin this morning with temperatures warmer than they were yesterday all day. i mean our high yesterday was 55 degrees in the park. we're currently at 58 right now so we get ahead's start and we'll keep these temperatures going, mid-60s above average for this time of year. lows this morning, almost 20 degrees warmer this morning than yesterday at the same time. monticello was in the 20s, they are in the mid-40s. they were subfreezing 24 hours ago.
6:15 am
right now we're looking at temperatures in the mid-50s to nearly 60 degrees for bridgeport and new york at 58 right now. we start with mild conditions. gives us a chance to get into the mid-60s there are light showers right now. not a rainouts of a day. yes there are mild conditions as far as temperatures foe but even after the spotty showers this morning will improve. we'll get clouds and maybe sun break. midweek we get more rain and mild temperatures for the stretch. satellite and radar, this is a front passing us right now and the collision of the air masses, yesterday's cold, a little warmth is creating the shower activity for us. again it doesn't last all day, concentrated through the hudson stretching down to yonkers and into long island right now that is what we see, but by 10:00, 11:00, north only are the
6:16 am
sun breaks north and west and we finish off good. the focus of what is happening through the south, this is estimated rainfall totals so well over 6 inches for anything that has yellow to orange in it and a foot and a half in parts of central texas and combined. really thins out, but there is tropical moisture in the atmosphere. how does hat affect us in the middle of the week? that is the real question. tuesday night into wednesday, we get the showers. then a high pressure system sets up and we look good. >> there is the potential for that to get caught up in the storm, not a hurricane coming here, not a tropical storm but the left over moisture gets caught into the weather systems and that could affect us.
6:17 am
we still have the cool feel. if you're looking at the leaves, we're near peek through new york and seeing brilliant colors. this is the weekend to go and next. future cast, we'll stay dry once we get into the afternoon and evening until tuesday night. don't expect a lot of rain for the early part of the week. midweek we get a soaking and then we go with night showers tuesday, showers likely wednesday. drying out for next weekend. i think the pattern holds for saturday and sunday which means great halloween, good for the marathon. 42,000 runners on sunday and also halloween. also the mets. want to mention to you, i have my t-shirt that i have not washed all season. scary jones from elvis der ran took me to opening day with the mets. >> so funny. >> i sat in the front seat and
