good morning, it's 6:00, nypd crews focus their search for clues in the killing of an nypd officer as his family prepares their good-byes. >> and a tourist boat capsizes off the coast of canada. this morning the death toll is rising. >> and the mets are on the road getting ready for the first game of their first world series in 15 years. and good morning, i'm lori stokes. >> and i'm ken rosato. thanks for joining us. it's monday october 26th. we're also going to have the latest on that massive earthquake that just happened in afghanistan. you're never more than 7 minutes away from weather and traffic beginning with meteorologist bill evans and the accuweather forecast. >> we're looking at clear skies, beautiful weather. it's going to be right around 48 degrees. we're looking at gorgeous temperatures. it just feels great, a nice fall morning, 46 around sunset park, 46 around newark, staten island, essex, hudson, union county. 38 white plains and towards rocklin county. 54 by noon.

kids grab a jacket at the bus stop. after school today looking at 59 degrees. it's cool and crisp. it's weather then heather every 7 minutes. we have an issue with our 2 and 5 trains near jackson avenue. it's fire department activity. you can expect some delays as a result on your 2 and 5 trains. as you go on to route 18 we still have this closure marlboro new jersey southbound near newman springs road. pretty serious accident being cleared through that spot. new jersey turnpike eastern spur north near 15e we still have an accident being cleared away, lots of activity, lots of lights as you go through that spot. we also have a problem in watchenniers falls. southern state parkway going west near grand avenue. that's an accident. traffic starting to back up. show you that activity on the eastern spur of the turnpike, lots of lights and you can see that right over here. street cleaning rules are in effect.

we start with breaking news, a powerful earthquake rocking cities across south asia. epicenter in northern afghanistan. we have video just in to the eyewitness news room. the quake was first reported as 7.7. it was also felt in neighboring pakistan and across northern india. this video showing the confusion that it set off in india. in the pakistani capital, people poured out of office buildings in a panic reciting verses from the koran. there is no word on the extent of damage or injuries. back here at 6:02, memorial plans are coming together for the fourth nypd officer murdered in the line of duty over the last year. officer randolph holder was gunned down one week ago while on patrol in's harlem. as his family prepares his investigators are making big leaps in their case against his accused killer. police finally recovered the handgun believed to be used in

the fatal shooting after combing the fdr drive and east river for days. tyrone howard will be back in court. dray clark is live now in east harlem with more on how officer holder is being remembered. dray. >> reporter: good morning, lori. this memorial you'll see behind me is one way officer randolph holder is being remembered, a clear indication of just how loved and admired he was within the nypd family, so many expressions of grief and gratitude here within this large and still memorial for the fallen police officer. last night several hundreds members of the gunanese community held a celebration of life service for officer holder, there was singing and praying, stories shared and memories of officer holder's life. the officer was shot and killed last tuesday while pursuing a suspect here in east harlem. his accused killer tyrone time later. officer holder emigrated to new

york from his native guyana. he was only 33 years old and a nypd. among those at last night's tribute service was officer fiancee. >> he was a very beautiful person. he saw the good in everyone. job. detective. >> reporter: meanwhile, the national action network tweeted this photo out last night. it shows officer holder's family with reverend al sharpton. according to the national action network, officer holder's family reached out to reverend sharpton asking him if he would consider delivering remarks at the funeral service for officer holder on wednesday. so we expect that reverend sharpton will be there on wednesday and deliver those remarks at the family's request. back here live outside psa5, again, this memorial a very large one and still growing. so many people coming by even

at this early morning hour leaving flowers or cards or candles, something as an expression of their gratitude for officer randolph holder and his sacrifice and service with the nypd. meanwhile on wednesday, we're expecting a significant very large turnout for officer holder's funeral. it's estimated some 20 or 30,000 police officers from across the country will be here as officer holder is officially laid to rest. we're live in east harlem this morning, dray clark channel 7 eyewitness news. dray, thank you. as you just mentioned, officer wednesday. be sure to stay with eyewitness news and abc7ny for complete coverage and the very latest on the investigation. now to a developing story, one person remains missing after a canadian whale watching boat sank off vancouver island in british columbia. this is new video showing the boat in the water. the boat went down with 27 people on board in good weather sunday afternoon.

gone on through the night using five people are confirmed dead, 21 have been rescued and taken to the hospital. new details on a deadly shooting outside a bronx strip club earlier this month. police are searching for garrett warren. it happened outside the key club cabaret in east chester. feliciano became involved in a fight between two women. one is believed to be warren's girlfriend. detectives say feliciano was shot after he punched warren. also in the bronx, police are hunting for the killer who shot a grocery store worker. pictures overnight. they say one of these three men shot a 46-year-old man inside the trio deli grocery in morning. police say three people were left. one came back and shot the man. >> he was really a nice guy.

>> we used to come here and just relax so for something like that to happen, you know, is kind of messed up. >> police say that this vehicle was last seen leaving the scene shortly after the shooting. if you have any information you're asked to call crime stoppers. that number is 1-800-577-tips. the countdown is on until the mets first world series game in 15 years. they're waking up in kansas city where the fall classic starts tomorrow night. the mets held their first workout in kc yesterday. another is set for today, and then a media session. captain david wright says this magical season has sometimes seemed too good to be true. >> we've had some things go our way that seemed like things like that go your way when you're playing well and when, you know, you're playing winning baseball. >> the teams have only met nine times in their history. the last time the mets visited

breaking news in new jersey, one person has died in a 3-alarm fire at a condo complex in bridge water. john del giorno has arrived over the scene. he's in news copter 7. what do we know. >> we've got first live pictures of this fire scene. we're in bridge water new jersey. this is a townhouse complex not far off route 202 in bridge water. robinsville court is the address. this fire broke out around 4:30 this morning.

units have been damaged and are now uninhabitable. firefighters now on the scene of the fire. it was a third alarm assignment that began at 4:30 this morning. one person was fatally injured in this blaze. the fire is under control. the information into the cause of the -- investigation into the cause of the fire is just getting underway. john del giorno channel 7 eyewitness news. 6:14. large waves and strong winds continue to pound the gulf coast of texas this morning. there are flash flood watches in effect in parts of texas as well as florida and louisiana. the heaviest rain moves east, officials say most drivers in houston heeded warnings to stay off roadways, but about two dozen cars did need to be towed from the flooding. in the race for president joe biden now says that he did not run because victory was beyond his reach. >> couldn't win. i'll be very blunt. if i thought we could have put

ohio valley and spread rain to us on thursday. it's a fast mover so it moves out of here very quickly by the time we get to wednesday night it's out of here. sunshine, beautiful weather after school. might want to wear one layer today for sports after school. a little breezy, particularly in the suburbs. 59 today, tomorrow the high pressure slides eastward. at 61 degrees the clouds increase and the rain comes wednesday, which is the perfect time for it to get out way for the weekend. we're looking at sunshine, tonight's a clear night. 35 to 38. tomorrow we've got sunshine, 61 with clouds late in the day. then 68 with rain on wednesday, off and on rain, i don't perceive any flooding because streams and creeks and rivers are way low. extremely dry, we'll get much needed rain, about 1 inches at least 2 in some spots.

warm sunshine thursday, and then the weekend looks great. i don't think you have to put the coat over the costume because superman, batman, wonder woman, they don't wear a coat. we've got beautiful weather for the world series friday, saturday and sunday and the marathon on sunday is going to be great. starting time temperature should be about 47 degrees and runners love that. around the new york marathon myself seven times, 42 degrees and sunshine, runners love that. good for spectators. >> all right. what was that? >> he hasn't had his bagel yet. as you head on to the eastern spur of the new jersey turnpike north near 15e, that accident is still being worked on. wappingers falls on route 9 going south near main street, that's an accident, and the southern state parkway near grand avenue, that earlier accident has been cleared. metro north, new haven line you have ongoing track work. metro north is okay. then you have long railroad, all lines are running on or close and new jersey transit is doing just fine. we have alternate side of the for today. thank you. it's 6:19, and coming up next on eyewitness news, the important cause bringing a famous comedian and u.s. senator together again. >> and what can techies expect

widespread damage all across afghanistan, pakistan, ask india following a massive magnitude 7 earthquake. these new images coming in moments ago. >> as the memorial outside psa5 in east harlem continues to grow, we are hearing from the heartbroken fiancee of a murdered nypd officer. >> updating breaking news in new jersey, one person has died in a 3-alarm fire at a condo complex in bridge water. john del giorno over the scene in news copter 7 where evacuations are in place. john. >> that's right, ken. we're told that a total of eight units in this condominium complex are uninhabitable fire. this is a townhouse and condo in bridge water. the fire began after 4:00 this units. we're told a total of eight of them were affected and are now currently uninhabitable. one person fatally injured in this blaze.

york marathon. heather's looking at your commute. it's weather then heather. >> i have to show you a picture of the southern state parkway. it is just a mess, at a standstill right over here, you can see all of those brake lights and the accident activity is all the way over here. we'll head to our maps and i'll tell you what's going on. it's the southern state parkway eastbound near exit 24. that's an accident that is being cleared away. van wyck coming southbound near northern boulevard so as you come off the whitestone bridge you have another accident that is being cleared away. 2 and 5 subways, fire department activity at jackson avenue, downtown trains are running express only heading through marlboro new jersey route 18 south near newman springs road. we still have that accident. all lanes are closed down. lori over to you. heather, thank you, breaking news right now, and a massive earthquake striking in afghanistan and can be felt

across south asia. the epicenter was deep in the hindu kush region of northern afghanistan. strong tremors were felt for about 45 seconds in cabo, islam bad and deli. this is new video of damage in india. this was first reported as a 7.7 quake but it's now been reevaluated to a 7.5. it's reportedly knocked out phone service across afghanistan. reports there say the quake sent walls swaying back and forth. people poured out of buildings in a panic. many of them reciting verses from the koran. we will continue following this air and abc7ny. 6:33. this week police officers from all across the country will be here in new york to honor the life of an nypd officer shot and killed on the job. randolph holder is being remembered this week for his service and sacrifice as his fellow officers make a key discovery in the prosecution of

his accused killer. dray live in east harlem. good morning dray. >> reporter: good morning. we'll talk about what they discovered over the weekend. it is a very big deal, a very important piece of evidence. this memorial you see behind me certainly is an indication of the kind of impact that officer randolph holder had on his nypd family as well as the community. certainly an indication of how much love and admiration his fellow officers had for him. officer holder's official funeral is not until wednesday, but last night take a look, members of the guyanese community celebrated his life through song and prayer. several hundred people including officer holder's service. officer holder was shot and killed last tuesday while pursuing a suspect here in east harlem. he emigrated here to new york from his native guyana. he was only 33 years old and five-year member of the nypd. discovery.

3 a.m., 20 feet below the east river, an nypd dive team found the 40 caliber semiautomatic handgun that they believe was used to kill officer holder. it's believed the accused gunman tyrone howard tossed the allegedly shot officer holder. officer holder's fiancee spoke last night about has life and the pain of her loss and seeing him for the last time. >> i have no idea when he kissed me on tuesday and said i love you, i'll see you later that that would be the last time i see him. >> reporter: the national action network tweeted this photo out last night. it shows officer holder's family with reverend al sharpton. according to the national action network officer holder's father reached out to the reverend al sharpton asking him to deliver remarks at officer holder's funeral this coming wednesday.

floral arrangement made in the form of the guyanese flag, just an expression of the grief and gratitude that so many people have been leaving here in honor holder. we should also mention tonight, community activists will hold a simultaneous vigil 7:00 outside all 77 nypd precincts. that vigil will be a symbolic 37 minutes long in honor of officer holder. that's due to happen tonight outside of all 77 police precincts. as for the funeral that will happen for officer holder on wednesday, we are expecting somewhere between 20 and 30,000 police officers from across the concern to be here in honor of officer holder, and we understand jetblue is offering free air fare for those police officers who would like to travel here for the service. we're live in east harlem dray clark channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you so much dray. the public viewing for officer

at the greater allen a. m. e. to 6 p.m. funeral services will be there wednesday afternoon at 3, and native nation of guyana. 6:37. one remains missing after a whale watch boat carrying 27 people sank off canada's vancouver island. the wreck is partially submerged 9 miles west of tafano. five people are confirmed dead. 18 survivors were taken to a hospital, and coast guard helicopters and aircraft have been combing the waters through the night. they've been using special equipment to search in the darkness. many of new jersey's top politicians hit the jersey shore for a hard fought welcome home. the town of belmar is welcoming back its last two families displaced by superstorm sandy. they are back thanks to a fund- raising campaign that brought in $240,000 in cash, materials and labor. the most of it came from people who don't even know the

. happening today, the first court appearance for the oklahoma woman charged in a home coming tragedy, adacia chambers faces four counts of second degree murder in addition to a dui charge. prosecutors say the 25-year-old crashed a car into a crowd of people at oklahoma state university's homecoming parade saturday morning. a vigil was held last night in stillwater to honor four people killed. her attorney believes chambers has a mental illness and was not drinking. 6:45, new jersey governor chris christie has apologized after apparently making too much noise on an amtrak quiet car. the governor's officer says christie accidentally took a seat in the quiet area on the asella express. witnesses say he was speaking loudly on his phone and was asked to leave that car. aides say he did leave once he realized his mistake. a fellow passenger posted

the study is expected to give the processed meat the highest carcinogen risk rating and red meat the second highest. it includes beef, pork, and lam but not poultry. the meat industry has been attacking the report for the past week before it was even released. 6:53, a two-hour police chase ended without an arrest in southern california. the suspect took off after a routine traffic stop and is wanted on charges of making criminal threats. police chased him across ten different freeways at speeds of more than 80 miles an hour. at one point the driver took a wrong turn down a side street and almost crashed head on into another vehicle. investigators lost sight of him nearly two hours after the chase started. it's 6:53. an nypd officer shot and killed in manhattan as his family prepares for his funeral.
