what's what's . this is new york's number 1 news, channel 7 eyewitness news with lori stokes and ken rosato, heather o'rourke with traffic, and bill evans with the exclusive accuweather forecast. now eyewitness news this morning. developing at 4:30, one person is dead after a fire tears through an apartment in the bronx. eyewitness news is live. >> breaking now, the man hunt is over for the fugitive wanted for shooting tennessee police officer and firing shots at a trooper. details on a deadly overnight shootout are just coming in. >> could the third time be the charm for the mets back at home this morning for game 3 of the world series against the kansas city royals and we're live at citi field. good morning, i'm lori stokes. >> and thank you for joining us, i'm ken rosato. today is friday october 30th.

minutes away from weather and traffic. meteorologist bill evans with the exclusive accuweather forecast. >> everybody's got their costumes on around the town. it's crazy to start the day. we're starting out with cool weather, a little closer to normal although this is warm. we should be at about 42. we're at 54, 49 around kingston, new city there in rocklin county. you go across the hudson to westchester, 53 around norwalk. these numbers are warm. should be 42 around the five boroughs and 32 around poughkeepsie. it will cool off more so as we go through the day. we're looking at 50 to 55 by noontime, and this afternoon we had a high of 60. that's normal for this time of the year. it's weather and traffic together. >> what? did i scare you? it's not a costume. >> you're dressed as heather o'rourke. >> i am. let's go over to our maps. may i suggest a little mass transit for today, tomorrow, sunday.

north, new jersey transit, they are all doing fine. d trains track work between 155th street and 161st street. downtown express service as a result, and then if you are going into suffern, this is mahwah, 202 both ways between the state line. road surface collapse. we have all lanes closed down. our street cleaning rules in effect. thank you heather. we're following a developing story out of the bronx. one person is dead after flames ripped through an apartment building. this happened at the 1700 block of weeks avenue. eyewitness news reporter dray clark is live now in the mount hope section. >> reporter: good morning, lori. investigators are still here on the scene inside the apartment where the fire happened going over the fire damage in hopes of finding a cause. police still have not released the name of the elderly man who lived inside the apartment and later died. the first call for help came

mount hope section of the bronx. when firefighters arrived and rushed into the apartment, there was heavy smoke but light flames. inside the apartment they found the elderly man on the living room floor with burns, and they say he was in full cardiac arrest. despite efforts to save his life that man was pronounced dead at bronx lebanon hospital. firefighters were able to contain the fire to that first floor apartment. however, a next door neighbor did suffer smoke inhalation, but that neighbor is expected to be okay. as for a cause for the fire, that of course remains under investigation. we're live in the bronx this morning, dray clark channel 7 eyewitness news. thank you dray. it is 4:33. an investigation's underway after the pilot of a jumbo jet spotted a drone while he was headed for kennedy airport. british airways flight 177 from london was over floral park long island when the crew spotted the unmanned aircraft. the pilot told air traffic

or strange looking balloon. >> it was going roughly towards the west, and it was about i would say difficult to tell the size of the thing but about 300 feet above us, and it was black and sort of -- well, it looked like one of those things with the four propellers on each corner. >> the faa and nasa county police are investigating the sighting. the mets are back home for game 3 of the world series. the first world series game ever to be played at citi field, and after two straight losses in kansas city, the amazins will be looking to score a crucial win tonight. eyewitness news reporter kala rama is live outside the stadium right now this morning. good morning to you kala. >> reporter: good morning ken, the world series scene has shifted. the mets are finally at home here at citi field. i've been here all week. i can tell you that citi field

they're all decked out for game 3 of the fall classic. noah syndergaard says it's another challenge in a season that had been full of them. >> part of the reason our team's had so much success this year is being able to handle the resiliency and come together as a team and overcome. >> we're down out. we fought back so many times this year, this is just another challenge that we have to meet and so far we've met them all. >> reporter: i hate to bring this up but here is a bad coincidence, new yorker billy joel will sing the national anthem at game 3. the past two times he sung before a game the mets have lost. joel did the anthem at game 2 in 1986. joel was there again in game 1 in 2000 when the yankees beat the mets. let's hope this ill omen doesn't stick for tonight. game 3 starts tonight at 8:07.

we're live outside citi field kala rama channel 7 eyewitness news. thank you. stay with eyewitness news for the latest on the met's quest for world series glory. you can follow updates on our facebook and twitter pages. turning to other news and happening today, a nation prepares to say good-bye to a hero. a vigil is being held tonight for detective randolph holder in his native of guyana. these are new images as holder's body arrived in the airport a few hours ago. detective holder's casket was accompanied by a detail from the nypd. the five-year veteran was shot to death ten days ago while responding to a call in east harlem. he'll be buried tomorrow. 4:36. in the last hour we received new video of that massive fire on board a plane in florida. we learned that investigators believe a fuel leak may have caused the blaze that injured 17 people. the dynamic airways flight was preparing to take off from fort

lauderdale when an engine caught fire. a pilot and another plane alerted the tower about the fuel leak just before flames erupted. passengers were forced to jump down emergency chutes to the flames. >> i heard a loud bang, turned around, saw the lights, saw flames, ran to the front of the aircraft. he opened the door, let the chute open to the sides where the flames were. >> one person suffered some serious burns. investigators are now trying to pinpoint where that leak originated. it's 4:37. prosecutors say that they have busted a lucrative oxycodone ring run by the owners of of two small neighborhood pharmacies. prosecutors say pharmacist lillian wycowski and her husband distributed more than half a million pills of the highly addictive painkiller

they own shapon chemists in green port and richwood. a candlelight vigil was held to celebrate the resile yan of a hard hit community slammed by superstorm sandy three years ago. 50 people gathered in canarsie last night. residents say everybody was affected by the storm in some way. >> all of us were affected in some way or other whether it's losing our home. in some areas some homes weren't affected but the next door neighborhood was affected. >> . it is 4:38. you're never more than 7 minutes away from weather and traffic and bill evans. >> a look outside, we show you how it is. it is really nice, great visibility all the way down to lower manhattan from our camera

you can see it in the distance. that's verrazano narrows bridge. it's cool, it's going to be a great day. 54 with these clear skies. clear skies back here into the ohio valley. a few high clouds are coming across the western part of the state. we've got clear skies back to the plains. the next system that will affect us will be this front that is here that's right up here throughout calgary, edmonton. it looks like it really does not influence our weather until sunday night. we're dry until then. by the time we get to 8:00 it's around 49, so the temperature just keeps dropping this morning, and we rebound to 55 by noontime, 60 this afternoon with sunshine, a beautiful start to the weekend. we're going to talk about baseball tonight, halloween tomorrow, marathon on sunday, busy weekend. heather's looking at your commute. it's weather then heather. >> very busy weekend, and mass transit is not a bad idea for this weekend.

let's take a look at a traffic camera and show you how things are moving across the george washington bridge. barely across the upper level if you're moving left to right. if you're heading out of the house and can get to the lower level do that instead. the inbound upper level three lanes are closed down. the outbound upper level remains closed down. d trains, track work between 155th street and 161st street, that track work has been cleared. long island railroad, metro north, new jersey transit trains, they are all doing okay. path trains not a bad day to hop on a ferry. no major problems there. we have route 202 both ways in mahwah between the new york state line and ram coe avenue, all lanes are closed in both directions. the new york state thruway going south near exit 13, we have an accident being cleared. route 17 both ways between century road and midland avenue we have that ongoing construction. a couple of lanes are closed down there. our street cleaning rules are in effect.

into that spot with about two lanes closed down as you head through that area, and then we're also looking at what's going on as you head through mahwah, 202 closed between the new york state thruway and ramapo avenue. street cleaning rules are in effect. thank you. it's 4:48. now to a developing story, a convicted rapist wanted in the shooting of a tennessee police officer is dead after an early morning shootout. authorities say floyd wright cook exchanged gunfire in i can. none of the officers got hurt. saturday. two of his associates were arrested yesterday. two tennessee police officers survive a gun battle that left a robbery suspect dead. the shooting broke out last night at a home about 80 miles south of nashville. investigators say the officers were responding to a robbery call where a homeowner had been stabbed. at some point the police crossed paths with the suspects

one officer was hit in his bullet proof vest. an nba player injured in a confrontation with the nypd police says he thinks about the incident nearly every day. he was back in new york last night as his team played the knicks in madison square garden. he was acquitted of resisting errs and other charges when another player was attacked. he has filed a civil lawsuit against the nypd. he says the department has to be held accountable. a seattle area high school football coach is watching his team, this time from the bleachers. that is after he was suspended. the school district says it warned assistant coach joe kennedy several times about praying on the field after games. administrators say the team's post-game tradition leaves a district wide for violating federal and state constitutional rights.

84th street and 2nd avenue and several buildings along a two- block stretch were without water for several hours. bad news for business owners on top of course the construction. >> very concerned about the serving during 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. so i had to call my reservations to cancel and tell them not to show up until 7 p.m. >> the mta says that a fitting on a replacement water main had failed. three years later there is another sandy related subway closure in lower manhattan. on monday the mta is shutting down the main entrance of the south ferry white hall station. it is another stage of the nearly $200 million rehab project. the storm flooded the station with 15 million-gallons of salt water. watertight doors and other features are being installed. the closure expected to last nine months. you're never more than 7 minutes away from weather and traffic and bill evans with

traffic. the accuweather forecast. >> here we go, let's take a look outside. we've got some cool weather. dropping. our 5 a.m. temperature is going to be 52 degrees. as we go into the morning we're going to be looking at a beautiful sunrise after 7:00. carmel's 49. oar monk 49 as well as white plains. you go over to rocklin county and new city is about 49. these numbers are a little warmer than normal but they're still falling as high pressure is coming across from west to east giving us some beautiful weather today with a lot of sunshine and a high of 60. 58, 54 by noontime, 60 later on. that's normal. speaking of normal, here she is, weather and heather and every 7 minutes we give you that. >> right. sure. let's go check out a camera and show you how things are looking on the fdr drive, the northbound side getting into 96th street they're trying to get that construction cleared away.

control here in the mount hope section of the bronx. this morning investigators are still here on the scene. they're inside the apartment going over the fire damage in hopes of finding a cause. police have not released the name of the elderly man who later died. the first call for help came in around 8:00 last night here. firefighters say when they arrived they came up against heavy smoke but light flames. inside the apartment they found the elderly man lying in the middle of the living room suffering with serious burns and he was in full cardiac arrests. despite their best efforts he was pronounced dead at bronx lebanon hospital. firefighters were able to contain the fire to just the living room and stop it from spreading throughout the three- story building. >> damage is extensive on the first floor, the fire did not extend to the floors above. it's really confined to the first floor living room where we found the victim. a next door neighbor did suffer smoke inhalation. that neighbor is going to be okay.

investigators still inside the apartment trying to determine what caused that fire to happen last night. we're live this morning in the bronx, dray clark channel 7 eyewitness news. it's 5:04. new this morning, the suspect in a deadly shooting outside a bronx strip club has been caught nearly 150 miles away. schenectady. out in a house. he's charged in the murder of jose feliciano earlier this month. police have also tied warren to a non-fatal shooting in the bronx last year. it's 5:04. the mets are ready to take to the field tonight down 2 games to none as they face the royals in game 3. it's going to be the first world series game ever played at citi field. kala rama is there with a look ahead to the big game. good morning to you kala. >> reporter: i've been here all week. i can tell you firsthand, i went inside and saw it, the

possible here for game 3. they've got the beautiful world series logos already on the grass. this game is sure to be a nail biter here, especially after game 1 here and that 14 innings there, game 2's letdown in kansas city. tonight mayor de blasio will be in the house, and get this, de blasio is a self-professed boston red sox fan and his hometown team was beaten in 1986 world series by the mets. this time around he's rooting for the amazins and quoting yogi berra saying it's not over until it's over. you've got to believe. >> everybody take a chill pill. being down two games to nothing is not a big deal. coming home to the roman coliseum like citi field where there's incredible support, mets lineup is outstanding. >> reporter: a chill pill, that's good advice but fans here are very excited. the mets have some advice. if you are coming out to this area take train 7. there will

>> the mayor is a fogressive. he's betrayed his base, he's betrayed so many of the people that voted for we want to make sure we come out here and talk to him about the policies he's been pushing in our communities. >> there's still a lot of time before the next election. mayor de blasio says last night's campaign kickoff event went great. time is 5:07. new this morning, the senate has passed a federal budget heading off a default and a possible government shutdown. the body okayed the plan early this morning. the vote was 64-35. two-year deal suspends the debt limit and increases federal spending for domestic and defense programs by more than $80 billion. the house passed the deal earlier this week. it now heads to president obama for final approval. it's 5:07. you're never more than 7 minutes away from weather and traffic and meteorologist bill evans. >> let's look outside because this is where all the action is. we're looking at clear skies,

here at 4 times square looking down to staten island, sandy hook new jersey, to the verrazano narrows bridge, a really pretty morning. our camera here in astoria queens looking south shows that action on the fdr is gone too. that's wound down just like you said it would. temperature 52 degrees. it's still dropping, probably drops into the upper 40s by the time we get to sunrise. clear skies back to the great lakes, west, northwest wind, next action does not come in until sunday evening or sunday really clouds will come out of that next system. we're looking at 51 by 10, 55 at noontime, 60 this afternoon. that's normal for this time of the year. let's see how the huckleberries are dressed at the bus stop this morning. got on all their warm gear and their little mittens. aren't they cute, the little baggers. >> not going very well at the george washington bridge. let's take a look at a traffic

jakacki,. european lawmakers are recommending the u.s. drop charges against nsa whistleblower edward snowden. the european parliament voted yesterday to drop the charges against snowden and called for the eu to grant him asylum as an international human rights defender. snowden exposed the nsa surveillance programs two years ago. he's living in exile in russia and will be prosecuted if he returned to the u.s. 5:12. the former new hampshire prep

school student convicted of sexual assaulting an underaged student has been sentenced to a year in jail plus probation. owen la brie is now a registered section offender. during his senior year he forced himself on a 15-year-old girl. la brie who said the encounter was consensual claims it was part of a ritual at the school of seniors seducing underclassman. his victim said in a statement she has regular panic attacks. there's a masked man roaming a neighborhood in oregon and he's not dressed up for halloween. the man goes by the name guardian shield. he patrols parking lots and other areas of an apartment complex wearing a red and black costume and carrying a ballistic shield. he also carries pepper spray, a stun gun, baton, and a first aid kit. >> i want to be taken seriously. everything that i do i try to be legit as much as possible. i make sure no one's breaking

into cars or no one's fighting and people are getting home to their families after a long day of work. >> guardian shield says that at first people were scared to see him, including one woman who screamed when he greeted her but now as the residents start to recognize him he's being thanked for his service. >> okay. a little below 30.00 but it has been rising and it will continue to rise. yesterday's high was 73. 13 degrees warmer than normal. for now at massapequa and north port it's 50 degrees. hauppauge is 48. these numbers are still a little warmer than normal for this hour of the day. normal overnight low drops to 42 in the park to 32 in the north and west. still some warm numbers but the temperature is falling. it will fall even more tonight. we're looking at an 8-mile wind in the park. this wind is out of the west and the northwest. in the winter time when it snows, it's our coldest wind. it brings in cooler, drier air out of canada dropping right across. it's cold enough to create lake effect rains. this next front a couple of lows here team up and get together to move our way but not until sunday. i want to show you our futurecast. here is today, friday, clear skies, lots of sun on the guidance. tomorrow lots of sun on the guidance, clouds late in the day mixed with sun.

of the tennessee border. shots were fired near the town of burkesville. cook was pronounced dead at the scene. an investigation underway after the pilot of a jumbo jet spotted a drone as he was headed for kennedy airport. british airways flight from london was over floral park long island when the crew spotted the unmanned aircraft. the pilot told air traffic control it was a drone or a strange looking balloon. >> it was going roughly towards the west and it was about i would say difficult to tell the size of the thing but about 300 feet above us, and it was black and sort of, well it looked like one of those things with the four propellers on the corner. >> the faa and nassau county police are investigating the sighting which is more than three dozen in the air space of jfk over the last year. new video of that massive fire on board a plane in florida.

5:42. police say they have busted a lucrative oxycodone ring run by the owners of two small neighborhood pharmacies. prosecutors say pharmacists lilian jakacki and her husband marcin jakacki distributed more than half a million pills of the highly addictive painkiller often using fake prescriptions. the millions made were then used to buy a house in greenwich connecticut and to lease a porsche and a land rover. what has already become a big headache on the upper east side became an even bigger one when a geyser erupted at the 2nd avenue construction site. water was caught on camera shooting into the air at 84th street and 2nd avenue. several buildings along a two- block stretch were without
