new at 6:00 police are searching for a serial robber terrorizing businesses and customers on long island for months. we have the latest from suffolk county. >> a correction officer from rikers island is recovering after he was brutally beat. developing overnight, a ups distribution center was evacuated in san bernardino after a driver spotted a package addressed to suspected killer syed farook.

radar and satellite, wall to wall sunshine. lots of blue skies. the planning forecast, high pressure dominates all weekend. that allows the temperatures to be above average. 48 by noon. high of 52 in new york city. details on the rest of the seven-day forecast coming up. >> thank you, amy. a serial armed robber is on the loose in long island. businesses and customers are understandably on edge. >> the suspect held up stores, mostly women clothing shops and tied up his victims in suffolk and nassau county. >> eyewitness news reporter marcus solis joins us now live with more on the story. good morning, marcus. >> good morning, michelle and rob. this is a pattern that dates back for months and last night the suspect struck again. it was around 8:30 when the gunman entered the beach bum tanning salon in huntington station. he forced two female employees to the back of the store, restrained them then cleaned
now, we said this goes back for months. this is the only image investigators have to work with. they admit it's not much captured from one of the surveillance cameras. the location we are at is not far from a similar incident that happened a few weeks ago at a pier one imports. again they handcuffed and zip today while someone was forced to open the safe. they are going to stores predominantly targeted to women. >> it started out retail establishments, pet co. the subject wet into the stores where he thinks females are working. >> again, only that one image captured by surveillance camera. police believe that in some of the instances, the suspect removed the hard drive from some of the commuter systems.
there is a $5,000 reward for information in this case. marcus solis, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> marcus, thank you so much. a correction officers at rikers island is recovering after investigators say he was attacked by an inmate. pictures show the officer's eyes swollen shut. he has a gash in his scalp but he is covered with bruises. police say inmate michael gonzalez attacked the officer sending him to the hospital. >> the inmate started screaming i told nobody is to touch my cell. he just started savagely beating him. who is running this place? is it the correction department or the inmates involved in these gangs? >> the bronx d.a. plans to reare southeast gonzalez, a reputed gang member in jail on an assault charge. this comes one month after two inmates were accused of jumping a correction officer, ray calderon, slashing him in the face and neck.
not working quickly enough to bring reform rob? now we turn to the latest on the mass murder in southern california. the fbi has officially invested the san bernardino shooting as an act of terrorism after determining there was extensive attack. officials say there is no indication syed farook and tashfeen malik were part of a larger plot of members of a terror cell meaning this attack was inspired by but not directed by isis or al-qaeda or some other terrorist group. overnight a ups distribution center was evacuated in san bernardino after a driver spotted a syed farook. officials quickly determined that the item was safe and posed no threat. we got our first look inside the couple's home. eyewitness news reporter n.j. burkett in fact was the only
inside the home where so much seemed normal. brandi hitt begins our coverage now from california. >> reporter: this is our first look at tashfeen malik, the mystery woman that police think may have been the brains behind the san bernardino massacre. malik and her husband syed farook burst into a conference firing 65 rounds killing 14 people, most farook's colleagues. within moments the 29year old mother went on facebook and isis. >> that is shocking. why would she do that? >> reporter: soon after malik opened fire on police in pursuit of her s.u.v. and died with her husband in the shoot out. the question now, did she radicalize him? >> this is a federal terrorism investigation. >> reporter: the fbi says the shooters look like self starters. >> we have no indication that these killers are part of an
now, at the couple's home, as you saw a second ago, teams of reporters and cameras toured the apartment of the alleged killers. the fbi for some reason apparently determined the apartment was no longer a crime scene and turned it back over to the landlord. media in. so, how did all this stuff get so quickly determined that to not be relevant as possible evidence? some say this tour was not a good idea. course. meantime the landlord did speak to those reporters. >> well, they didn't tell me they were terrorists when they moved in. that wasn't on the application. >> looking back, you see this, does something trigger, you know, that was weird. >> no, no, nothing weird. >> no one saw this coming, family and landlord included. the mom's apartment was filled with religion books, driver's

welcome back. outside, chilly, not bad. yet. >> it's fantastic out there. as far as december goes -- >> yeah. >> if there is a bit of a chill in the outlying areas and suburbs, a few spots below freezing. we expect that this time of year. temperatures in the low 40s feel comfortable. we will shoot for above average readings. you may be wondering how did we finish up the month of november. we have that for you. we have a feel on how it feels.
bureaus are -- about bore -- borough boroughs are fairly mild. we have 25 toms river. trenton 33 degrees. looking at the month of november, we end up with an average temperature of 52.7. that ties for the warmest ever. we didn't make the top spot but we tied for the top spot with temperatures at or below the normal only a few days out of the month. you see there it's highlighted in blue. what about december? it will be a very docile set up, decent weather because the polar vortex will be trapped up north until these steering winds, the jet stream, drop further south. that allows the mild air to come up and that is the pattern that takes us through the next several weeks. we may end up december and temperatures in january at
looking at the weather pattern, eastern third of the u.s., no big deal. a system coming up the shore very weak and another one up the plains that hasn't developed. as the two systems come together, we could see changes. until then, high pressure is in control through monday. that is the big blue h. the other two weather makers to the north and coming up the coast could team up tuesday for rain. until then things look good. december delight is what we will call it today. 52 the high. tomorrow feels like late october, 54 degrees, warmer temperatures. the futurecast shows a few clouds through the weekend. hard to complain with the forecast like this. if you have anything to do out and thinking about the holiday lights, this is the weekend to do it. early chill this morning turns into 52 this afternoon. sunny, nice and temperatures later on tonight will be above freezing here in the city. the average first freeze is around november 22nd in the city.

protestors marred at city hall circling the block 16 times to represent the same number of bullets fired at 17-year-old laquan mcdonald. video shows mcdonald being gunned down last year after city officials fought to keep that video from being released, about a year they fought. the officer is facing murder charges and activists want the mayor investigated as well. >> anything less than a full investigation of the mayor himself and what he knew and when did he know it and what he did with that information is unacceptable. >> officer jason van investigators mcdonald was swinging the knife in an aggressive exaggerated manner, end quote. the video shows mcdonald veering away from officers before van dick opened fire. the officer's details of the
hundreds of -- emerged in hundreds of panels of reports that prompted them to rule it a justifiable homicide. there is new information on donald trump seeing muslims celebrating. the only on air celebrations was a report of a van searched for explosives after people reported seeing three men liberty park. a new poll is out and donald trump is now leading the pack of republican presidential candidates by a big margin. 36% of respondents said they would probably support trump. senator ted cruz, ben carson and marco rubio trailed in the teens. new jersey governor chris christie got support from 4% pf respondents. democratic presidential

holding up stores, mostly women's clothing shops and tying up victims in the back. marcus solis joins us live from huntington station with more on this. good morning, marcus. >> good morning, michelle and rob. a scary pattern, the victims mainly women, tied up in the store while the suspect cleans out the cash. it happened again last night at this beach bum tanning salon in huntington station. there were two people inside, two employees who were restrained, forced to the rear of the store while the suspect business. the women were not hurt. the suspect was described as wearing a hat and a scarf. that is the thing. police haven't managed to get a good image of the suspect. this is one from an earlier robbery. the suspect has removed hard drives from some of the out.
first a petco but mainly wear women shop. now this tanning salon is added to the growing list. police are asking anyone with any information to contact them. there is a $5,000 reward in this case. live in huntington station, marcus solis, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> member is reaching out to muslim americans living in new york city in hopes of calming the fear of some backlash from recent terror attacks. the major visited the jamaica muslim center in queens telling more than 100 worshippers that he is washing to improve the relationship between the city and muslim community. this comes after the nypd ended its surveillance of muslim communities in the wake of 9/11 because of critics that blasted the program as religious and racial profiling. >> we have an important mission to between the muslim community and the city government.
>> many of the people in the crowd say they have seen antimuslim statements in recent weeks. they are encouraging the community to report hate crimes. in queens, we are seeing video of a man suspected of burning hindu prayer flags in queens. he is seen walking in the woodhaven section in the early morning hours of thanksgiving after the fires occurred. surveillance video shows a man starting a fire outside of a house. last night community members came together to rally against the hate that they think this arson represents. three syrian refugee families arrived in new york city amid a flight from texas. mayor de blasio welcomes the 12 syrians. their stay is expected to be temporary until the texas lawsuit is resolved. texas cited concerns about security.
no risk. construction equipment worth more what new york cops say is stolen by two men over a several month crime spree. they say the men used a white ford pickup truck when they robbed six construction sites in brooklyn and queens between july and october. investigators have video of the suspects at one site. they are hoping, of course, someone will recognize them. also, a bizarre robbery on staten island. two men and a woman are wanted for robbing an 18-year-old man who does not have arms. it happened outside the strip mall on staten island last month. detectives say two of the robbers distracted the man while the other one grabbed his cell phone. the brother of the singer nicki minaj is free on bail on charges of child rape. the victim is 12 years old. minaj posted on instagram these
he is 38 years old, jelani maraj. police accuse him of raping a child between november and april. he is due in court next week. in lighter news, some young baller rinnas from brooklyn getting the dance of a lifetime when they perform with the famed moscow ballet. >> the moscow ballet is auditioning students from the brighton ballet theater and other companies picking 30 for a special performance of the nutcracker. dress rehearsal last night. the young ballerinas and the pros take the stage together this afternoon at the theater. do you think those young folks are excited. >> nothing cuter. nothing cuter. >> congrats to them. >> very cool. coming up, attention commuters, just what you want to hear in time for the holidays.

temperatures to talk about that may, what, bring some harmony to your life. >> here we go. >> beautiful. the sun comes up this morning, we are looking at gorgeous skies and temperatures, while they are somewhat mild here in the boroughs, we have below freezing readings out 679 suburbs, 41. northwest wind at 3 miles per hour. that's where we begin in central park. the normal highs for time of year, 47 is where we typically would begin with the average. record set in 1978. we won't break records this morning. looking at temperatures that are cold for poughkeepsie, and dover, monticello. white plains 32. at the freezing for belmar as well. toms river 31. we will see everybody warm up nicely. lots of sunshine. hard to find a cloud in the northeast. some came off the lake and covering upstate new york. it's a thin layer and lots of sunshine to dominate. it will dry out quickly.
time of year. 5 to 10 above average. we can't rule out a coastal storm for next week. really until that happens on tuesday, we are looking at beautiful weather. any storms that do develop will only bring rain because there is no cold air or cold outbreaks in sight. what we have is a tranquil weather pattern. there are two systems developing, one down shore off the east coast and another one for the upper plains. both of those are in the developing stages. high pressure is dominating much of the country. monday. once the high pressure starts to fade, then those two systems sort of meet up on the east coast. that could mean for us, rain maybe in the coastal storm development and bring rain to the shoreline. by tomorrow, second half of the weekend, temperatures are higher. 54 degrees will feel like late october. really beautiful weather through the weekend. on the futurecast, the rest of the weekend is fine.
mostly sunny day and through the afternoon temperatures are easy to take above average for this time of year. chill turns into a nice after, 52. overnight low 38 degrees. we have not been below freezing. the normal first freeze of the season is november 22nd. hasn't happened yet. here is the accuweather seven day. into tuesday, that's when the storms are likely to develop offshore. that could mean rain for the coast and perhaps inland we wait until it gets closer to see how the systems merge and what it can produce in the way of rainfall for us. staying above average. second week of december, looking good. wednesday a high of 49. friday. can't beat a weekend like this. in fact, i think this is the weekend that the holiday lights go up if they are outside. i can promise nothing beyond

topping our news, a serial armed robber is targeting women's clothing stores and he ties up his victims in the back. marcus solis joins us live with more on this story from huntington station. michelle. police have been trying to summer. he struck two more times over the last couple of weeks. the latest incident last night at the beach bum tanning. it happened around 8:30 in the evening. two employees inside the store. they were forced to the back at gunpoint where they were restrained. the suspect cleaned out the cash drawers. this is image from an earlier incident. the suspect wears a hood and a mask. in late move there was a similar robbery at pier 1 imports. employees and customers held at gunpoint, handcuffed with zip ties and someone is forced to

and sending him to the hospital. >> the inmate started screaming. i told nobody is to touch my cell. he just started savagely beating him. who is, in fact, running this place, the correction department or inmates involved in the gangs. >> the bronx d.a. plans to rearrest gonzalez who is a reputed gang leader. this comes one month after two inmates were accused of jumping ray calderon slashing the officer in the face and neck. the union leaders say the city is not working quickly enough to bring reform to rikers. now the latest on the massacre in southern california. the fbi is officially investigation the deadly san bernardino shooting as an act of terrorism after the agency determined that there was extensive planning involved behind the attack. if confirmed, that would make the shooting the deadliest
at this point there is no indication syed farook and tashfeen malik were part of a larger terror cell, looking that this was inspired by a terror group as opposed to directed by one. the fbi says the two look like self starters and there are new questions surrounding the woman, malik with investigators trying to figure out if she is the one that radicalized her husband. overnight a ups distribution center was evacuated in san bernardino after a driver spotted a package addressed to syed farook. officials quickly determined that high tide item did not pose any kind of threat. michelle? >> thank you, rob. we got the first look inside the home shared by the couple. the eyewitness news reporter n.j. burkett was the only new york television reporter allowed inside. the fbi determined the apartment was no longer a scene and turned it over to the landlord that allowed members

fantastic look this morning. 63% humidity. winds calm out of the west- northwest. pressure is on the rise. letter we are looking at the numbers across the area. areas in blue are colder than they were yesterday by a few degrees. andover 26. it can be a big change across the area. compare 24 hours apart these areas are colder than they were yesterday at this same time. town. monticello at 30 degrees. so, looking at the month of temperatures were above average except for the days in blue. a handful of days. and we tied for the warmest november ever. that is 2001, the year that we nelson. maybe we are set up for a docile december as well because the polar vortex cannot drop south until the jet stream sinks to the south.
allowing for mild air to come up from the south. until that changes, we will deal with mild temperatures. chill from time to time because of the air coming in but for the most part temperatures are above average and we are under warm air. high pressure over the weekend means no storms. temperatures are allowed to go above average and that pattern holds until tuesday. tuesday this system appears in the northern plains that doesn't look like much now will start to develop. as it comes through ohio and tennessee valley and meets up with a coastal storm, that can mean rain for us on tuesday, developing. so,ing expect today and tomorrow to be beautiful. above average with temperatures in the low to mid-50s. a lot more like late october of december. take. we roll through the rest of the weekend, a few clouds coming and going from time to time.
the day. but tuesday, the coastal system developing. early chill today, sunny and nice, 52 for the high. degrees. the suburbs. as far as below freezing in the city, this time last year we had been below the freezing point. the average date for that is november 22nd. still hasn't happened at our official reporting station in central park. we wait for that. mostly sunny and mild, 54 degrees. the seven-day forecast, first up, tuesday, the coastal storm details. what would happen, our temperatures could make it to the mid- to upper-40s inland. we would talk all rain here. no snow of course because there isn't enough cold air. a storm that would likely be offshore bringing rain to the coast and perhaps further inland we have to watch for that. 49 on wednesday with the sun returning. thursday and friday temperatures are in the low to mid-50s. looking back at climate history, the top 15 warmest

the sun will warm us up. overnight the temperatures did go low in some spots. below freezing for monticello, and dover, poughkeepsie. areas in blue are colder than they were yesterday at this same time. 31 islip. bridgeport 34. despite the chill that is in some spots, temperatures warm up nicely. another above average day. looking in the the books, the first time that we are usually below 32 degrees, usually below the 32-degree mark on average is november 22nd. looking to last year, the year before, the last several years, back until 2011 we had a freezing temperature city overnight. hasn't happened yet. with the pattern we are under won't happen for the next week. we continue with the mild trend especially with overnight temperatures. the radar looking good. that keeps the storms away allows for a beautiful saturday in front of us. 48 by noon.

communities in the wake of 9/11. >> we have an important mission to deepen the relationship between the muslim community and the city government. we believe that it is important for all. many of the people say they have seen antimuslim statements made on social media in recent weeks. the nypd, which has 900 muslim men and women serving on the force is encouraging the community to report hate crimes. three syrian refugee families have arrived in new york city amid a fight by texas to try to stop them from going there. mayor de blasio says new york welcomes the 12 syrians with open arms. there stay is expected to be temporary until the lawsuit in texas is resolved. texas cited concerns about security screening but the obama administration tells a federal judge the refugees pose no risk.
contradict video showing the death of a teenager. reports filed after the shooting say laquan mcdonald approached officers in an aggressive manner as he held a knife. those reports lead investigators to rule mcdonald's death to be a justifiable homicide. but video released last week in the october 2014 incident shows mcdonald veering away from officers before being shot 16 times. the officer who shot him is facing murder charges. tolls are going up. drive. the port authority is raising tolls this weekend. the hikes take effect at the george washington bridge, lincoln and holland tunnel, bayonne and goethals bridge and outerbridge crossing. e-zpass goes up 75%. cash tolls a dollar. e-zpass customers pay 10.50 during off peak and 12.50 during peak hours.

32 belmar. 31 islip. temperatures are going to be several days. the 5th, 6th and 7th, the areas in orange, those are the ones we are forecasting for. one year ago we were below the average line for those dates. we were 10 degrees cooler for those dates one year ago. right now we have a different weather pattern. the polar vortex, which we talk about during the wintertime is actually always up north. it exists up there. it cannot come further south until the jet stream dips. the steering winds are well to the north. as the jet stream remains that far north we don't get the cold air sinking down. up there locked away and we have the flynn you evens of mild air until that changes. earn half of the u.s. under the good vibe of weather and we see above average temperatures really the next several days. almost the next 7 to 9 days
maybe december 15th we will get cold air working in. high pressure is in control through monday. few clouds for us. temperatures are easy to take and it won't be until tuesday that we see a couple of weather makers. one developing over the upper midwest doesn't look like much now but another system up the coast. if those two meet and the timing is right, tuesday we could get coastal rain in here. we will watch that. high pressure system today holds in place tomorrow. the so, is we get temperatures warmer. 54. like late october is what those numbers are comparable with. the futurecast shows no rain. hardly any clouds today then tomorrow we get a few. few and far between. by monday, increase in if cloudiness ahead of the storminess tuesday. call it an early chill in some spots. warm temperatures, 52, nice and sunny. i say warm, compared to where we could be, it's comfortable. clear skies tonight. 38 the overnight low in the city. below freezing in the suburbs.
november 22nd. we are behind on that one. afternoon. 54 is the temperature as we close out the weekend. looking at the accuweather seven-day forecast, monday is nice at 53. a few clouds moving in to the afternoon. then tuesday a coastal storm. that is when we take a closer look at, a storm that would come likely offshore as the computer shows us now. the coast. if that takes a different track or we develop the second system a little better across the ohio and tennessee river valley that could produce more snowfall. into the weekend, thursday and potentially warmer next saturday and sunday where we could be near record territory december 15th the pattern moisture. any moisture with us this week if we get the coastal storm

it happened at this beach bum tanning salon. the suspect forced two employees to the back of the store, restrained them, then stole all the cash on the premises. this is an image from an earlier incident. it doesn't show much. police say the suspect has taken the hard drive from security systems in some of the other incidents. police say the gunmen is targeting businesses where mainly women shop. a couple of weeks ago there wax a similar incident taking place at a pier one imports around the corner from here. these incidents have taken place in nassau and suffolk county. they date back to late august. police are offering a $5,000 reward for any information related to these robberies. anyone with any information is urged to contact police. live in huntington station, marcus solis, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you.
rick gears is recovering after an attack. they say he beat the officer sending him to the hospital. this comes a month after two inmates were accused of jumping officer ray calderon slashing the officer in the face and neck. >> reporter: get ready to pay for if you drive. the port authority is increasing tolls this weekend. the hikes take effect tomorrow at the gwb, lincoln and holland tunnels, bayonne and goethals bridges and the outerbridge crossing. e-zpass rates go up 75 cents. cash tolls up $1. police in new jersey say students at clifton high school were never in danger after several 5th graders tried to bomb the school with a homemade bomb that was nothing more than a mini altoid continue,
