have a great tuesday. developing overnight charges are filed in the alleged gang rape of a woman in a brooklyn park. >> new video of a police s.u.v. that smashed into a business. wait until you hear what happened to the officer behind the wheel. >> we are learning more about a fire that ripped through two homes on long island overnight. good morning, i'm lori stokes. >> thank you for being with us, i'm michelle charlesworth in for ken rosato. today is tuesday, january 12th. you are never more than seven minutes away from weather and traffic and meteorologist bill evans. >> well, it's an accuweather alert day. we are tracking snow heading our way.

we are tracking it as we speak. here is the current temperature. 26 degrees. we are looking at hardly any wind out there. no windchills. 19 newburgh. 16 middletown. 22 poughkeepsie and kingston 23. bridgeport you see teens down the shore. cold, clear skies. off to the west is an alberta clipper and arctic front. that is coming later today. thus, the accuweather alert is intact. we will be looking at 43 to 40 this afternoon. rain-snow mix. slippery for the evening commute into tonight. a coating to an inch of slippery snow. we will talk about that in a few minutes. heather o'rourke is here looking at the commute. how is it going? >> not badly. mostly construction and then the situation in midtown. new jersey transit, long island railroad, metro north on or close. b, d and e trains, the east side stairways closed because

midtown. 7th avenue, 54th to 53rd one lane closed because of that falling debris. we have street cleaning rules in effect. no major problems with the mass trans systems. over to you. firefighters are putting out hot spots after flames scorched two homes on long island. the fire broke out about two hours ago inside a home on west fulton street in long beach. the fire then spread to the house next door. no one was hurt. developing overnight, four teenagers are facing a series of charges in the alleged gang rain of an 18-year-old young girl at a playground. eyewitness news reporter dray clark is live outside the courthouse in downtown brooklyn with the latest. dray? >> reporter: good morning, lori. four of the five accused attackers will make court appearances in brooklyn. we are expecting them to plead not guilty.

there is no doubt they attacked the teenage victim. overnight police charged four of the five teenage suspects accused of raping an 18-year- old woman at gunpoint on a playground. it happened last thursday at the osbourne park brownsville. the 18-year-old and her father were in the park drinking when the father claims five teenagers ran up and put a gun to his head telling him to leave while they allegedly gang raped his daughter. this surveillance video shows the father standing there in the black coat with red sleeves trying to get someone to help. eyewitness news spoke to the 18- year-old victim. >> i was real scared. i didn't know what to do. i was in a panic mode. >> at this juncture we have no doubt he tic was raped -- she was raped. >> reporter: police released

teenagers before the alleged rape. sunday night, two teens were captured and another two turned in my family members. >> we are seeking a 5th individual. we are confident with the public help that that will occur. >> reporter: and those four teens charged with rape and sex abuse. however, they maintain that they did not rape the teenage victim. they claim it was a consensual act. live in downtown brooklyn, dray clark, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you, dray. nypd officer passed out at the wheel. moments later his s.u.v. veered off the road, into a building. the s.u.v. crashed into a store a few hours ago on bay street in staten island. mallory hoff is live there in the clifton section. good morning. >> reporter: michelle, good morning. you can only imagine this must have been a scary moment for this officer. we are told he is doing okay this morning.

i want to show you what we are looking at. you can see where this cruiser plowed into the building this morning. we are learning according to nypd that this officer, a sergeant with the force, was driving this morning when some type of medical condition lead him to pass out at the wheel. by the time he woke up, well, as you can see, it was clearly too late. he had plowed into this flower shop. the airbag deployed. he is part of nypd's newly created strategic response team. again this morning he is being treated. you have to take a look here. there are actually two flower shop. we are told the people who live there, well, they heard the morning. they immediately came downstairs very nervous. they learned the officer would be okay. they opted to leave the area for the night.

building itself. in the meantime, the officer was taken to a nearby hospital, treated for nonlife-threatening injuries. this morning he is expected to be okay. live on staten island, mallory hoff, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> mallory, thank you. new this morning, police on long island are looking for the man whose bizarre behavior created a terrifying situation for a baby-sitter in woodmere. video showing the suspect after he told the baby-sitter that she was pushing a dead baby in a stroller. he demanded the child. and when the sitter retreated into the family's home, the man tried to get through a locked kitchen door yelling for her to give him the baby. he finally left taking the stroller. it was found abandoned at a restaurant. a young boy in queens is recovering after being hit by a bus at a long island city intersection that some say is very dangerous. this is disturbing video

he steps off the corner making sure there is time to cross. suddenly he is blindsided by the access-a-ride minibus. he was hit apparently by the side mirror. residents have pleaded for three years to make 29th street at 39th avenue a four-way stop. >> we have outreached to d.o.t., explained to them and described to them and it doesn't register. it's not a necessity as far as they are concerned. >> now the d.o.t. is reconsidering. it won't go for a four-way stop but it is looking at other ways to plaque the corner safer. happening today, the bronx father charged with killing his pregnant daughter heads back to court. will gram caruth was arrested last wednesday the same day the body of andrea caruth was found inside her home in baychester. she was five months pregnant.

tributes pour in from people around the world mourning the death of david bowy. new york -- bowie. one of his latest ventures an off broadway musical is scheduled to close next week. fans were at the theater remembering what drew them to bowie. >> he was a vision nary. nothing in popular culture that he didn't touch. fashion wouldn't be what it is. music wouldn't be what it is. >> he helped shape my life and the lives of so many people i know. >> he died sunday night after battling cancer. a david bowie contribute concert scheduled in march will go on. you are never more than seven minutes away from weather and traffic and meteorologist bill evans. >> here is our camera this

good visibility. nice start to the day but we have ch-ch-changes on the way. we will look at clouds coming from the west and our clipper is sitting right here in the great lakes around lake michigan. that will slide right on up -- south then curbing through new england. a trailing arctic front with that will bring the snow showers later on this afternoon. we start with sun and gets cloudy around noontime. then this afternoon the snow showers will start around 4:00, 5:00 and go into tonight. overnight that could really freeze and change into black ice on roadways and for the commute tomorrow morning. we are not looking at a big accumulation. a coating to an inch north and west. enough to slippery the roads on this accuweather alert day. we will have our hands full later on. we will.

we go nuisance, prowable, biblical. we are looking at a nuisance snow. it's enough to make problems tonight. 21 north port to massapequa. wind are dying off to a light wind. single digits to calm. today we will start off with sunshine. a nice day. then back to the west, here is the clipper. first one of the season dives down out of canada. races across like a clipper should. picks up moisture out of the great lakes then snow showers out of that. not a lot. by 8:00 temperatures are still in the 20s. this afternoon, look how the temperatures warm up. particularly at the coast, jersey shore, coastal sections of connecticut. here comes the snow. the snow is right at sunset, 4:46. the temperatures start dropping as the snow comes in. still will be warm enough for mixing on long island, suffolk county, fairfield, eastward top new london.

showers, maybe a burst of snow. a blast coming in tonight. then this freezes overnight. that makes for black ice on roadways, sidewalks tonight and tomorrow. be on the lookout for that. tomorrow is a cold day. it will feel like the single digits and teens much of the day. we start to see the snow building in this afternoon. really starting around 2:00, 3:00 then lasting into to night. sun then clouds. snow showers mixing at the coast. 25. tonight a coating to an inch is what will be possible then tomorrow it's a brutally cold day. flurries will be around. it will feel like 10 to 20 degrees and a high around 31. we are looking at warmer weather as you see as we get into the end of the week then eventually into the weekend. we will see today this temperature difference that will feel a lot colder today. the reason being we have these snow showers that will pop up around the area. we will talk about that this morning.

lincoln and holland construction there. no major issues as a result of that. bayonne is closed down until 5:00 a.m. both ways because of construction. alternate side of the street parking rules are in effect today. >> thank you so much. it turns out that the shooting that left a new york city police officer with a bullet wound to the ankle means it was a case of friendly fire. sherrod stewart was shot over the weekend breaking up a brawl. they were exchanging suspect with christopher rice, struck four times and is seriously hurt. he is facing a string of charges. the police commissioner spoke about the shooting yesterday. it was a chaotic situation with a number of shooters including police as well aspects coming out of that party and we have a very good idea now of the circumstances who shot what and where.

case now up to the d.a. to determine how the charges against the suspect may change. opening statements begin today in manhattan. the first trial against general motors after a faulty ignition switch triggered massive recalls. an oklahoma man is suing the company after he was hurt in a crash two years ago. his attorneys say the fault at the switch caused the airbags to fail during the crash. this is the first of six trials this year. in washington, the senate appears ready to follow the lead of the house in moving to cut the pensions and expense allowances of retired presidents. taxpayers pay about 3 1/2 million dollars to the four living presidents. lawmakers see bill clinton and george w. bush earning millions through speeches, book deals

lori, over to you. >> heather, thank you. developing right now, four teenagers charged overnight in the gang rape of a teenager in a brooklyn playground. investigators say surveillance camera captured the teens not far from the park. eyewitness news reporter dray clark is live outside the courthouse in downtown brooklyn with details. dray? >> reporter: good morning, lori. among the charges the teenagers are facing is rape and sex abuse. they will make a court appearance in downtown brooklyn later on this morning. we expect them to plead not guilty because they claim what happened was consensual. police released this surveillance video showing the five accused teenage attackers. the alleged rape happened thursday park playground in brownsville park, brooklyn. they put a gun to the father's head and told him to run away

daughter. sunday two of the teenagers were arrested and two others turned themselves in. back live outside the courthouse, police are still looking for that 5th suspect and they are asking for the public's help in trying to identify him. if you have any information, give the police a call. live in downtown brooklyn, dray clark. channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you. breaking news on staten island. a police s.u.v. smashed into the side of a building in the clinton neighborhood. the driver who is a sergeant appears to have suffered a medical problem. he reportedly passed out at the wheel, swerved into the building and is receiving medical care at richmond medical center. his injuries are not life threatening. breaking news in turkey. ten people are dead and more than a dozen hurt after an explosion at a popular tourist area of istanbul. a live look at investigators

explosion inside a park in istanbul's historic district. the blast sent people running a few hours ago. police sealed off the area. the cause of the explosion is not known at this moment. more than 100 people were killed in october when a suicide boomer attacked a -- bomber attacked a peace rally. a worker was shot during a robbery. it happened as an attendant was pumping gas. someone with a gun came up before 10:00. they had a confrontation. the robber fired once. the attendant is in the hospital with a leg injury and the shooter is on the loose. president obama is preparing his final state of the union address tonight. he is expected to frame the choices facing americans as they select his successor. the president's special guest

daughters are dead after the blast outside of cleveland. neighbors say last night's explosion in north field center township shook their homes. some went to the scene to try to find the victims. >> there was debris all over the ground and smoke. screaming if anybody was in there. nobody responded. >> the victims were all found on the first floor of the two- story home. the cause of the explosion is under investigation. new details on el chapo's return to prison. he is in solitary confinement fighting extradition to the united states. his lawyers have filed six motions to suspend any attempt to move him. the mexican attorney general's office says his extradition will take one year. meanwhile, actor sean penn is defending his interview with el

don't mess with a monk. a buddhist monk proved he is no pushover when he was targeted by a thief. he is at a gas station when a man grabbed $350 in lottery tickets from the monk's hands. he ran after him, the monk, but he caught the thug and was thrown to the ground. he caught him. the suspect drove away. the monk was not seriously hurt and kept the money. there you go. >> don't mess with the monk. >> he stopped them. he didn't watch the alabama- clemson game. he tackled him high. we do have clear skies and we have a beautiful sunrise coming up after 7:00 and temperatures this morning around 26. humidity dry. light wind to a calm wind. no real windchill.

deduct it from the 26 it would give you a windchill in the park about 21. yesterday's high 40. we will get to near 40 today minus the wind. we were at 40 yesterday but the windchill was 20 with the wind out there. 16 hopatcong. when the temperature falls like this, the winds have stopped and the temperatures are allowed to drop because we have clear skies. back to the west. here is the clipper over lake michigan. it will dive a little south, cut up through new england, trailing cold front here. travel delays in here. by the time the snow gets here, temperatures will warm to near 40 early this afternoon and into the low 30s north and west. plenty cold for snow above i- 80, i-287, i-84.

mixes on long island with ice, sleet, rain and down the shore. tonight these temperatures drop below freezing tonight. this will freeze on roadways, particularly secondary roadways. look at tomorrow. bitter cold tomorrow. you have to watch out for black ice. not looking at a big accumulation. a trace to a coating here. coastal connecticut and the sound shore, five boroughs. up north where it will be all snow you may get a coating to about an inch. we will be looking at these temperatures that are going to be quite mild for the afternoon after school 39. snow showers, i'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. this will be mixing at the coast. to 25. snow showers, ice mix, black ice on roadways tonight. overnight into the morning commute we could have that. tomorrow it's brutally cold. feels like 10 to 20 degrees much of the day tomorrow.

latest on the officer's condition and what happened here. mallory? >> reporter: michelle, good morning. you have to imagine this must have been an extremely nerve- racking experience for the officer. we are told he is doing okay. >> but the same cannot be said for this building. i want to show you what we are seeing here. that massive hole left behind after the cruzer plowed into the building. this is a flower shop. it happened around midnight. this officer who is a sergeant had some type of medical condition, a condition that in turn lead this officer to pass out. by the time he woke up it was simply too late. he had hit the wall. we are told the sergeant is part of the strategic response team, a new nypd team. a witness described seeing this s.u.v. cruiser with its lights flashing in the moments before this crash.

the fire started in one house then spread to a home next door. no one was hurt. the fire was quickly put under control. >> now on to a developing story in brooklyn. four teenagers have been charged overnight in the gang rape of a teenager in a playground. eyewitness news reporter dray clark is live outside the courthouse in dunn town brooklyn with details. dray? >> reporter: good morning, lori. four of the five accused teenagers have been in police custody since sunday. this morning they will be in court to answer to rape and sex abuse charges. we are expecting they will pled not guilty. but the police commissioner says there is no question they attacked the teenage victim. overnight police charged four of the five teenage suspects accused of raping a woman at gunpoint on a playground.
