agents found the drugs. >> good morning, i'm lori stokes. >> i'm ken rosato. it's thursday, january 28th. you are never more than seven minutes away from weather and traffic and meteorologist bill evans with the exclusive accuweather forecast. >> good morning. here we go. we got skies that are clear to partly cloudy. a little chilly. a pretty good day today. temperatures yesterday were in the low 40s. we started out around 33. the other issue is up the hudson river valley where the temperatures are in the teens and low 20s. there could be melting from yesterday and that could create black ice overnight. be aware that from and dover in sussex county all the way up the hudson river valley there could be issues today with that on the roadways. i will let heather handle that. down around wrightstown there might be that problem, too. a nice day today. other than that, 42. a mixture of sun and clouds. we will talk about snow for tomorrow morning. >> what. >> because you came back today and brought that.
all over the place for you and found out you were here. n trains skipping 7 of the 9 stations in brooklyn but they have temporary platforms set up bay parkway and 8th avenue. long island railroad, new jersey transit, metro north beth highway an accident. cross bronx expressway under the apartments you have two lanes closed down with construction. getting on the span, you are doing okay. a minor delay inbound george washington bridge. lincoln and holland are doing fine. alternate side of the street parking rules are suspended but they are back in effect on monday. ken, over to you. breaking news out of jersey city. a traffic stop lead to a shooting. dray clark is live on virginia avenue with the latest. dray? >> reporter: good morning, ken. that car involved with that police shooting ended up in the
virginia and ocean avenue. here is a closer look at the vehicle involved there. it was just before 1:00 this morning when two jersey city police officers pulled the car over because it was reported stolen. as one of the officers approached the car and tried to remove the driver, police say that driver sped away dragging the police officer. somehow the officer managed to reach his weapon and fired hitting the suspect in the head. that suspect was rushed to jersey city medical center and we are told despite being shot in the head his injury is not life threatening. meanwhile, the police officer involved was taken to the hospital for his injuries and we understand his injuries are not serious. we are told he was talking to police officers before he was taken to the hospital. back live now on ocean avenue, police have now cleared the scene and they have not indicated if there was another person in the car with that driver who was shot. meanwhile, we are expecting to
investigation from the hudson county prosecutor's office. live in jersey city, dray clark, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> dray, thank you. also breaking, a man was stabbed to death inside a homeless shelter. this morning police are on the hunt for his attacker. mallory hoff is live in east harlem where the investigation is underway. mallory. >> reporter: lori, good morning. we are learning the fatal stabbing took place on the third floor of this homeless shelter behind us. an argument between two men, two residents escalated rather quickly. take a look at this video. you can see investigators on scene working to determine what this argument was over and get to the bottom of this situation. this is a homeless shelter for men. we are told there are 101 beds here. it's called boulevard shelter in east harlem. we are being told that investigators got the call. police arrived on scene and found a man with a stab wound
that man was pronounced dead at the scene. the man was 62 years old. back out live, investigators tell us this morning the man who they believe is responsible for this stabbing, the suspect in this case, they say he is a resident here. they know who they are looking for and he is on the run this morning. an active and ongoing search for that suspect in this area. live in east harlem, mallory hoff, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you. a developing story in the bronx. one person is dead. two firefighters hurt in a fire overnight. this started around 10:00 last night in a vacant building on west kingsbridge road in bedford park. once the fire was out, crews discovered somebody unconscious on the second floor of the two story building. the cause is under investigation. police are searching for the person that opened fire on a brooklyn street hitting a woman walking past. surveillance video shows you
eyewitness news showing 54-year- old mary bell pagan walking near utica and carol on monday night. that's when someone started shooting hitting pagan in the knee. >> she was screaming, yelling. the ambulance picked her up, to her to the hospital. >> it's sad. i pray to god for her family and everyone in good health. >> police say the bullet was intended for someone else. a 29-year-old man was hit by gunfire. investigators are trying to figure out who fired the bullets and why. city sanitation worker mugged while clearing snow from a fire hydrant accused of making up the whole story. michael morelle was arrested and charged with filing a false report. he claimed two men pistol- whipped him in south jamaica. no comment from the sanitation department or the sanitation worker's union. we have video of an armed
restaurants on manhattan's east side. police say that he struck at least three times in the past month. the video is from the first incident on the night of december 20th when he held up a little caesars in east harlem. the most recent was last week. no one was hurt in either of these incidents. federal agents made a $14 million drug bust in queens after two trucks taking a slow drive caught their attention. the agents were in elmhurst on an unrelated assignment. they spotted the two pick up trucks with north carolina tags circling several blocks. agents stopped the trucks and a search dog picked up the scent of drugs. they were taken to dea headquarters and they found 100 pounds of heroin pressed into small packages and hidden in a car axle and drive shaft in the bed of the truck. both drivers were arrested. you are never more than seven minutes away from weather and traffic and bill evans with the forecast.

to massapequa and hauppauge is 24 and 30 around east hampton. to the north 21 to 29 to 15. you see from right around poughkeepsie and over to andover, in this area where the temperature is below freezing, there could be black ice issues anywhere around. just be on the lookout for that. when you have a calm wind, clear sky, you have melting from yesterday. you get this freezing overnight with the temperatures. other than that we have clear skies with a beautiful sunrise, nice day with a mixture of sun and clouds. this morning you see temperatures are still right at freezing and below. 7:00 issue with black ice. then this afternoon temperatures warm into the low 40s. tomorrow we start off with snow showers coming in from the northwest around 7:00 in to the morning commute. this will be sliding across tomorrow during the morning commute. it's not a lot of snow but a nuisance situation with a coating possible tomorrow morning. by afternoon it's blustery and
temperature is at 38 to 40 it will feel like the 20s tomorrow with this very cold air pouring in here out of canada, out of the arctic really. this afternoon's temperatures are in the 40s. more melting. to go with that, there could be black ice issues on roadways. we are at 42 today. cloudy tonight, 32. tomorrow morning snow showers. blustery, much colder. tomorrow it will feel like the 20s. we may see a nice sunset but it will be cold. with the 20s tomorrow, then the winds gone on saturday. that will feel a little bit better on saturday. we will look at temperatures that feel like the 30s. late in the day there might be a snow shower on saturday. we will keep an eye on that. sunday we are looking at colder, sunnier weather coming and warmer as we go into monday and tuesday we are into the upper 40s. so, we will have more of that melting and virtually most of

her husband steal money from a youth program in illinois. the police lieutenant killed himself in september. investigators say he embezzles -- embezzling from a youth program for several years. the couple alleged used the money for meals and a trip to hawaii. the university of missouri suspended a professor. melissa click bled not guilty. she had a confrontation with a student photographer and videographer then called for muscle to remove the student journalists. there is a massive overhaul coming from the police department in ferguson, missouri after being rocked by bloody protests. they have signed a consent
it will change the policies and training as a result of the fatal police shooting of michael brown in 2014. a federal investigation found unconstitutional and discriminatory practices throughout the police force and court system. experts are suggesting banning congo shipments of rechargeable batteries because of the risk of fire. the batteries used to fire cell phones and laptops can create fires capable of destroying planes. it would not apply to cargo planes. coming up on "eyewitness news at 5:00" a.m., a 6-year- old boy in new jersey attacked by a raccoon walking to school. how one man stepped in to save his life. >> wow.

dray clark is live at the scene. dray? >> reporter: good morning, ken and lori. we should note the officer involved with the shooting was not seriously hurt. the vehicle involved ended up here in the middle of this intersection behind me which is virginia and ocean avenue. take a look at the vehicle. it looks as if a bullet hit the windshield. we know before 1:00 this morning, two jersey city police officers pulled over a vehicle that had been reported stolen. when one of the officers approached the vehicle and tried to remove the driver, we are told, the driver sped off dragging the police officer. as the officer was being dragged, he reached for his weapon and fired hitting the suspect in the head. that suspect stopped the car immediately, was later rushed to jersey city medical center where we understand his injuries are not life threatening. the officer was rushed to the hospital and his injuries are not serious, possibly just his
vehicle in addition to being dragged down the street. back at the intersection of ocean and virginia avenues, police have not indicated if there was a second person in the car with the driver that sped away. we are waiting to hear more information from the hudson county prosecutor's office. live this morning in jersey city, dray clark, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> dray, thank you. now to a deadly attack inside a manhattan homeless shelter. police are searching for the killer. mallory hoff is live in east harlem. >> reporter: good morning. in the last few minutes i spoke to a man who actually lives inside of this homeless shelter. he tells me there was an ongoing issue in the days ahead involving the two men involved in this situation. take a look at this video. you can see investigators here on scene trying to get to the bottom of what took place here. we are told this was an argument that escalated quickly. this is a shelter for homeless men.
we are told police were called to the scene this morning. when they arrived they found a man that had a stab wound in his neck. he was pronounced dead at the scene. back out live this morning, the suspect we are told took off immediately after this stabbing. investigators say they know exactly who they are looking for and that search continues this morning. live in east harlem, mallory hoff, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you. quickly developing story on long island with two people shot in amityville. two people in a car fled the scene after the double shooting and police are looking for them. one victim's injuries are not life threatening but there is no word on the condition of the second victim. both were shot just after 2:00 this morning. queens residents back in their homes this morning after being forced out by carbon monoxide. a manhole fire on leslie road
residents spent hours waiting outside in their cars while firefighters vented the homes and replaced a burnt section of cable. electrical service was restored. everybody was allowed back inside. new details in the search for the driver in a hit and run that left a teenager critically hurt. investigators released surveillance pictures overnight showing the red minivan involved in the crash. this happened last thursday night on broadway in williamsburg. police say a 15-year-old boy was crossing the street when he he remains in critical condition. donald trump saying he doesn't like being used. he is refusing to back off his decision to boycott the debate hosted by fox news. the campaign says fox crossed the line with a sarcastic statement that mocked trump. trump says moderator megyn kelly can't be trusted after her performance in the first debate. >> kelly's question was within

new this morning, governor cuomo declared a plastics plant near albany a super fund fight to address fears about water contamination. residents have not been drinking or cooking with local well water since last month. tests found the water is contaminated with a chemical linked to cancer. a spokesperson says the plastics company is paying for a treatment system and bottled water for residents. in new jersey, a little boy is set to be released from the hospital today a day after he was mauled by a raccoon. take a look at pictures of arian. he was walking to school with his mom yesterday morning when the raccoon jumped on him from behind. with his mother screaming for

a traffic stopped turned into a police-involved shooting. dray clark sent out this tweet from the scene moments ago. dray joins us with the latest. >> reporter: the officer is fortunate he was not hurt considering he was dragged quite a distance before the vehicle he was holding on to came to a stop at this ocean avenue. take a look at the vehicle involved. it looks as if a bullet hit the windshield. here is what we know so far. it was before 1:00 this morning when two jersey city police officers pulled over a vehicle that had been reported stolen. when one of the officers approached the vehicle and tried to remove the driver from the car, the driver then sped away dragging the police officer. as the officer was being dragged, the officer reached for his weapon, fired and hit the suspect in the head. that suspect was then rushed to
where we are told his injury is not life threatening. the officer involved was also rushed to the hospital and we are told his injury is not serious at all. so, a very fortunate situation for the officer involved. back live in ocean and virginia avenue, the police have not indicated if driver had a passenger in the car with him but, again, the officer involved not hurt. that suspect shot in the head and now in the hospital recovering. live in jersey city, dray clark, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> dray, thank you. a killer is on the run this morning after police say he stabbed a person inside a manhattan homeless shelter. eyewitness news reporter mallory hoff is live in east harlem for us. mallory. >> good morning. investigators say there was an argument between two men here at this homeless shelter that escalated quickly. take a look at this video. you can see investigators here
bottom of this situation. this is a homeless shelter that has 101 beds and it's for men only. police got the call just before midnight, arrived on scene and found a man with a stab wound on his neck. that man was pronounced dead at the scene. i spoke to a man that resides at the shelter. he told me there was an ongoing discussion between the two men involved here and a lot of people were nervous that something might happen. >> he was mad because supposed to be that guy stole things from him before. somebody was stealing something from him, you know what i mean. that's what he was telling us for a couple of days. he was complaining to staff that somebody was stealing things from him. >> reporter: investigators tell us they are well aware of who that suspect is. this morning there is an active and ongoing search to find that man. live in east harlem, mallory
>> thank you. new this morning, one person is dead, two firefighters are hurt in a fire overnight in the bronx. it started around 10:00 in a vacant two story building on west kingsbridge road in bedford park. once the fire was out, crews discovered a badly burned victim unconscious on the second floor. that person pronounced dead at the scene. investigators say the building was filled with debris. >> we are not sure who -- if it was accumulating debris over the years or if it belonged to the person who was in the building. >> investigators say the person who died was a squatter. the cause of the fire is under investigation. it has been labeled suspicious because it was in a vacant building. police are searching for the person that opened fire on a brooklyn street hitting a woman walking past. surveillance video, which you will see only on eyewitness

the search is on for a man in queens for shooting and killing his girlfriend and shooting another woman. police are looking for tyquan long. he is suspected of shooting the two women yesterday morning. long's girlfriend was killed. the victim's mother said long was very possessive. >> beautiful person, very smart, go to church, intelligent. she met this guy. he was possessed over her. she stayed home, didn't do nothing. you know, no friends, nothing. >> rowers say long also threatened to shoot a third person who is being protected by the police. if you think you know anything about this, call police. a developing story now in georgia. a state trooper was shot during a high speed pursuit near atlanta.
and when three trooper cars tried to box in the suspect car he crashed into a civilian vehicle. the suspect then opened fire on the troopers hitting one twice before the troopers shot and killed a man. the wounded trooper is expected to make a full recovery. the widow of a once be loved police lieutenant who staged his death is facing a federal indictment. melanie gliniewicz is charged with helping her late husband steal money from a youth program. lieutenant joe gliniewicz killed himself in september. investigators say he was embezzling from a youth program for several years. they used the money for meals and a trip to hawaii. the widow's attorney says she was victimized by her husband. meteorologist bill evans with the accuweather forecast. >> here is a look from our camera here on the roof looking to the chrysler building this morning. chrysler brought to you by dodge. across the east river to
