developing at 6:00 investigators believe they have got their man. the suspect that police say tried to lure a 10-year old girl off the street in queens is behind bars. eyewitness news is live with details. a husband is behind bars this morning accused of killing his wife in a quiet neighborhood in new jersey. we know how police discovered the body and when.

the winds are light and the skies are clear. 21 up to monticello. 27 around norwalk. looking at a nice start to the day. it's cold. these numbers are close to normal for this time of the year. we looking at about a seven miles per hour wind wait plains. it will be out of the west and eventually shifting to the southwest which won't be so bad. feels like the 20s around the five boroughs, st. albans, jamaica bay, jamaica queens. 8 to monticello. so, today, we will have clear skies, sunshine. there is a little clipper right here. it will cut up into canada. it will swing clouds through this afternoon then the temperatures are off to the races tomorrow and very warm. 35 by noontime. 38 this afternoon. 39 in here and that's normal for this time of the year. we will talk about a big warmup tomorrow in the sunday forecast in a moment. michelle, rob, back to you. >> good to have you, bill, thank you so much.

developing story out of queens. police arrested a man accused of trying to lure a child in jackson heights. mallory hoff joins us live from the 115th precinct with more. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, michelle. we know a 29-year-old man was questioned here overnight and charged this morning. he was taken into custody after investigators released this surveillance video. take a good look at this video. you can see the man police identified as jamonton carrillo in queens. police say he is attempting to lure a 10-year old girl off the street it happened in jackson heights at 7:40 yesterday morning. investigators say after motioning to the child, he crossed the street and reached his hand out to her. the child ran and yelled for help. a school crossing guard confronted him as he took off running. he was arrested later that day charged this morning.

morning, investigators are saying that that little girl, that 10-year old, she did exactly what she should have done in this situation. she ran as fast as she could and she made a lot of noise. and the crossing guard acted quickly. mallory hoff, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> all right, thank you very much. in other news, a husband in a quiet new jersey neighborhood is waking up behind bars this morning after police say he killed his wife and then sat with her body for at least a day. this is the first murder in north arlington in decades. eyewitness news reporter n.j. burkett was there with what police say happened. >> you could hear a pin drop at night. there is nothing, no activity like that ever here. reporter: neighbors stared at the crime scene in disbelief when officers arrived at apartment 28-k. investigators say they found eric pleger in

body of his wife louisa who was dead since apparently yesterday. >> we are investigating this as a domestic violence homicide. >> reporter: acting prosecutor graywall. >> i won't get into details. this is an ongoing investigation and active crime scene. we are in the process of gathering evidence. we have a suspect in custody. my main reason to be here is to reassure everyone, while there has been a homicide, we have a suspect in custody. >> reporter: investigators recovered a weapon, they would not say how mrs. pledger was killed. and they refused to comment on a motive. north arlington police say there is no reported history of domestic disturbance at the home. the first murder in 22 years. the borough is 10 miles from manhattan with a population of 15,000 people. the couple do not have children and by all appearances, eric pleger and his wife lived a

none of the neighbors seemed to no them at all. >> everything here is people walking their dogs and just quiet, children playing. kind of shocking, scary. >> reporter: police would not say what kind of weapon was recovered. they were apparently called to the complex by the complex manager that had an unspecified concern and asked police to check on the apartment. in north arlington, new jersey, n.j. burkett, channel 7 eyewitness news. a scare in the air and flight from newark airport. the plane quickly dropped 20,000 feet. this is the inside of air canada flight 449 bound for vancouver after the oxygen masks dropped. it was diverted to toronto after it lost pressure. it dropped 20,000 feet in five minutes. well, another slashing to report this morning, but this one happened at rikers island when an inmate attacked a correction officer. investigators say that officer

beautiful sunrise at 7:09 this morning. 18 kingston, poughkeepsie and carmel 17. 21 monticello. these numbers are close to normal for the overnight hours here early in the morning. light winds here to a calm wind. winds are coming across from the west. going to be great. windchills out and about,ing to get going, grab the warm gear, you need that, scarf, gloves. monticello at 8. sunshine, clear skies back to the great lakes. i was showing you a clipper system around lake superior. it will be headed eastward across lake ontario and moving across into canada. not doing much at all. we thought we might get a sprinkle or flurry out of that this evening. temperatures in the 20s as we get going during the day. 10:00 low 30s. mid-30s by noontime. then we will touch that 38, 37, maybe 40 around poughkeepsie for the afternoon. sunny.

welcome back. hillary clinton's presidential campaign is now demanding that the state department release more than 20 e-mails sent from her private server that have been deemed top secret. this is the first time the state department ruled on her e- mails but clinton's campaign is questioning the secrecy of the messages saying the e-mails originated and remain on the department's unclassified system. with two days until the iowa caucuses, hillary clinton has no time to let the e-mail scandal distract her. former president bill clinton joined his wife calling the iowa caucuses a dogfight between his wife and bernie sanders. they are neck and neck and sanders held his own rally in davenport earlier in the day. >> ted cruz is trying to

accused of trying to lure a child in jackson heights. eyewitness news reporter mallory hoff joins us from the 115th precinct with more on the story. good morning. >> good morning, rob. a 29-year-old man was questioned here last night and formally charged first thing this morning. this after investigators released compelling surveillance video. take a look. as you can see here, this is the man police have identified as jamonton core israeli la from queens. police -- corrilla. he is attempting to lure a 10- year old off the street. it happened at 7:40 yesterday morning. investigators say after motioning to the child, he crossed the street and reached his hand out to her. the child ran and yelled for help. a school crossing guard confronted him then took off running. now it is being said that that little girl did exactly what she should have done in this situation.

and made as much noise as possible. that crossing guard is being commended for quick and excellent work yesterday. live in jackson heights, mallory hoff, channel 7 eyewitness news. a newsstand owner in midtown is on edge because he said young people are terrorizing him and his business. >> scary. high school students have been hyping him off, stealing and hitting him. he wants it to stop. josh einiger has the story. >> reporter: seven days a week, 12 hours a day, he runs his newsstand near time's square. hard enough work without being knocked off and knocked around by a group of teens. >> they come in here, beat me like this in the head, in the leg. >> reporter: day after day when a nearby high school let's out the same group of kids come by and harass him. security cameras captured him

>> sometimes beat me, sometimes rude language, punching on my face. >> reporter: he filled out a report then the teens were back. he recorded as they threw snowballs at him and ran off. >> reporter: police have increased patrols in this part of the city that is highly secure. >> my body is shaking. my wife crying. my kids crying. too much problem, man. >> police say they have an idea of who the kids might be. they are working with a nearby high school to put a stop to the behavior and hopefully make an arrest. parents in new jersey are on high alert for internet predators after a man was caught sending messages to her 10-year old daughter. she monitors the instagram account for every follower and comment on the page but it was through direct messaging that a

she says the man first posed as a 13-year-old boy saying they had a mull you al friend but the messages soon went a whole lot further than that. >> the string of messages went from little kid innocent to adult vail in three messages. you beat yourself up at the beginning then you say i'm not sure how much sooner i could have caught it. >> the messages contained mentions of sexual act and illicit photos as well. her daughter was not alone. after she contacted police, investigators discovered the internet predator targeted several other girls at stony brook school. officials are asking parents to remain vigilant as police continue to search for the suspect. >> hope they get that gross person. funeral services in new jersey for two toddlers that

the one and 3-year-old died of carbon monoxide poisoning along with their mother. they were over come in the family car last weekend in passaic. the children's father was digging out the car from a large snowbank with the engine running unaware that the tailpipe was covered sending odorless poisonous carbon monoxide straight into the car they were sitting in. >> you have covered this issue. even before this tragedy -- >> we talked about it last weekend. >> yeah. >> we literally were talking about it one week ago. you have to dig out. we did an experiment. we will run that story this weekend, i think tomorrow, with the local fire department pumping all of that carbon monoxide into the car, the car running, windows up, simply in a snowbank. when we opened the car, you couldn't smell anything. all of us think we would smell the exhaust, open >> odorless. >> no way you can sense it. you get sleepy, fall asleep and you are done. >> my heart goes out to that

he is trying to do the right thing. getting the car out. >> millions have done it. >> keeping it warm for his family. unaware. >> that is -- i hope he is okay. >> young couple. just didn't know. people in our area had no idea, older people have no idea. >> clean out the tailpipe. some other news, in california, we have learned more information on the escape of three violent fugitives. investigators believe two of the remaining fugitives are nearly 400 miles away from where they initially escaped. one of the men surrendered yesterday in southern california where the men escaped from a maximum security facility last friday. he told investigators the trio were in san jose in northern california and that the other men may now be headed to fresno. a rabies warning in new jersey because a raccoon that mauled a young boy tested positive for rabies.

warning residents to be weary of wild animals. look at that sweetie. the 6-year-old was attacked wednesday walking to school with his mother. he is facing a series of painful rabies shots in addition to what happened to his little face. he is otherwise okay. >> gorgeous child. facebook is taking some bold action against illegal gun sales on its popular social media platforms. the company has banned posts and messages that are advertising private sales of guns both on facebook and on instagram. the ban applies on private person to person sales of guns that often take place without background checks. it does not apply to licensed gun dealers. a cancer patient in california has the woman he loves by his side as he continues his fight against the disease.

a local family is putting up a fight over a foster chill. the effort went viral with the wayne's life matters. >> dwayne is 14 but was taken from his foster family at 3 years old. he has been in and out of a number of homes. one family is working to get him back for more than 10 years but they face a number of legal hurdles. >> reporter: hilda ramos motherrer became his foster mother when he was 5 days old. she passed away when he was 3 and wanted dwayne to be cared for by hilda at her home in row
